Hi every-body! (Hi, Dr Nick!)

I have an issue with the skin on my hands. It frequently almost peels off, despite using hand cream and wearing gloves while washing up etc. It will clear up for a few weeks, then start falling off again - particularly around the fingers. Oddly enough they look fine now but were yuk this morning?

Anyone have any ideas??

sounds like it could be dermatiteis [shit i suck at spelling] or psorisis , though they shouldn't clear up that quickly , been to the Dr. yet ? mind u they will probably just give u a cortisone cream. Is the skin itchy at all ?

Are there any small clear pimple like bumps on your hands ? If so, it does sound like dermatitis. Make sure you keep your hands dry i.e. make sure you dry them properly after washing, and keep moisturising with a low fragrance hand cream.

Your Doc can give you a steriod cream, but dont use too much as it can thin the skin. I sometimes get something similar, and it is usually due to stress and / or seasonal change.

my brother used to get this - he wore cotton gloves on the inside when using rubber gloves - as the sweat doesn't help the situation and the cotton will soak it up...

am sure allison or luisa will have great suggestions! :spin:

Hi there!

There could be a number of reasons skin is peeling off. You ideally need to see a doc to rule out a fungal infection (can involve peeling skin and itching) a contact dermatitis (possibility as you mention it comes and goes), a staph infection (usually little watery blisters present that hide this nasty bug) or quite simply dry skin.

Obviously can only advise on dry skin condition. For a short term treatment that is designed even for dertmatitis sufferers and those with severely dry skin you could try some cheap Urederm cream from your chemist. It is like the Eulactol Heel Balm but half the price. It is designed to repair the skin but can sting if you have broken skin.

Let us know how you go xo

It's not itchy or blistery or anything, just peels off! Eeeew. I will go to the chemist and see what they say. Going to the doctor is just too hard!!

Chemist is a good first option but if they say to see your doc, do heed their advice xo
