View Full Version : What did you wear when you last went 'out'?

Or what are you wearing this weekend if you go out- say to dinner or drinks or a date etc.

I love hearing and seeing what women put on for a special occasion. At my work on Fridays most people dress down- jeans etc but often I go out to dinner after work on Fridays so I like to put in a little more effort and look that bit more 'dressed up'.

Last night I went to dinner with some close friends to celebrate Easter and this is what I wore-

Black pencil skirt with skinny belt;
Black lace-edge camisole;
Loose short-sleeved bolero covered in gold sequins;
Black suede flats with ribbon-bows;
Gold antique necklace watch with gorgeous filigree patterns on a long chain

It was the first time I had worn the sequin bolero since I bought it and I felt very happy with my outfit- it lifted the whole evening that little bit higher. xo

I rarely dress up too much because here in Townsville, even the best restaurants and bars are still pretty relaxed. The last time I put it on for a big night, I wore indigo slimfit bootleg jeans, a tight longline short-sleeve black turtleneck, a skinny black patent leather belt over the top of that (around my "natural" waist - the "return of the waist" still feels incredibly weird to me after so many years of wearing everything around my hips, but I'm going with it), with high high black patent peeptoes. I had dark plum painted nails and did a smokey plum eye and nude lips.

It was for a date with a fashionable sort of guy. If I was going on a date with an older guy or someone a bit more upmarket (sounds snobbish but you know what i mean), I'd wear a dress or a pencil skirt. Generally, I feel "hotter" in jeans or pants and I feel "prettier" in a dress or skirt. I have an array of LBDs but they don't really get much wear funnily enough.

I went to an Easter lunch with friends today and wore a white a-line skirt with a preppy black and white cardigan. I wore it with dangy pearl earrings and black and white kitten heels. I was way overdressed, everyone else was in shorts!

Love to hear what everyone else wears!

Last weekend I went 'out' for dinner & drinks with friends in Mooloolaba. So I didn't want to get too dressed up seeing as it was at the beach (so to speak) so I wore my dark denim Mavi jeans, a black strapless top from Witchery (in a slinky type material) that has a twist detail across the breast area. Then I wore flat silver thongs and had my hair out and wavy. I felt great! :D

If I know I'm having drinks after work on a Friday I normally go for a bit of a funked up corporate look (we aren't usually allowed to wear jeans so it's normally black pants or a pencil skirt) and I'll try and do my hair and makeup nicely. The guys at work tend to know when I'm going out as I make more of an effort and they all seem to notice! :drunk:

Otherwise I'm usually meeting my yummy mummy friends for lunch or coffee so it's a casual dress, skirt or jeans and a nice top.:hearts:

Two days in Hicksville gives you no cause to dress up!

I did go to the races again on Thursday night. Do enjoy it in summer when I can wear summery stuff and slingbacks but it was a little chilly here on Thursday night. I wore a jersey wrap dress in colours of teal, mulberry and chocolate. Had my choc knee high boots and a velvet mulburry fitted jacket on. Wore my teal hand bag and all worked beautifully. Used to think boots were a no-no for the members but not after what I have seen people wear!:shakehead:

Luisa my family is in racing so I grew up going to the races - in the members' it used to be quite dressy, now I literally wouldn't be surprised if people got in in shorts and singlets! Your outift sounds gorgeous though - I think boots (if done well!!!) look elegant and polished.

Thanks ozkat, it was just the thing for a slightly chilly night. Love the boots, have them in Choc and Black, round toe, stack heel. Felt polished enough, you're right, just cant get over what people will wear. Even on that chilly night, the amount of exposed flesh was embarrassing - not a good look with goosebumps girls, this is night racing after all!

Love the boots. They really pull the look together, polished is right. Had a chuckle about your comment on exposed flesh, too true. I've always believed in being warm, myself!

I haven't been out-out for ages. Last time I got dressed up was for a summer wedding, so it was pretty girly - 50s cream dress with pink roses and pink heels.

A few weeks ago I did have a few cocktails with friends so I went classic; dark denim, black tee, black heels and sleek ponytail. Felt quite sophistamacated, I did!

As a matter of fact, I did! Lincoln Park After Dark though this time, might have been a bit too matchy-matchy with serious black.

Where'd you get your lovely boots from?

Bought them at Myer last year. Was just going to buy black ones but when I arrived they had a buy one pair, get the other for half price. When you're paying over $200 a pair, that was an incredible saving. Also loved the depth of the Chocolate coloured leather so it was an easy decision. Bought a couple of those clear boot boxes to store them. An investment buy really!:p

My boy took me out for dinner on Saturday night, instead of doing the whole easter egg/chocolate thing.

I wore my new pinafore dress with patterned tights and stacked peep toe heels with a little cardie incase it got cold.

Roughly curled my hair and did a bronze smokey eye.:p

I went to dinner with my partner's staff at a restuarant as part of a funky club so I had to refrain from the sexy look but sorry I am not one to down play "going out" fashion. I pulled off an interesting boho glam look.
A paisley patterned long boho dress with aqua sequin detail on the neckline with a pair of killer aqua stilettos with tiny silver bells around the ankle. :hearts: Love them! yes you can hear me coming!

Went out Sunday night for a 'huge' night. Made the stupid mistake of wearing my white shorts (don't worry, they aren't tooooo short. I don't play Prostitiute) and a long sleeve black top. The shorts have had to be washed twice and nappysanned!!! Not sure I'll make the choice of white shorts on a big night again..:redcheeks:

Hi Toastie- I love opaque black tights- I wear them all winter every winter. I love black tights with bright shoes or a skirt- I have a pair of pinky-crimson satin-covered flats which I love with my black tights. And a pair of ivory and black peep-toe kitten heals which look very cute with tights. I also like black tights with a tight pencil skirt- it makes a classic look funky and fun.

Yes! I have just discovered woollen black tights - they're fabulous! Soo toastie (hehe) warm and I love the look of them. The texture is a bit rough compared to regular nylon's but my dad is a sheep farmer so I feel like I'm supporting him by buying them! Lol.

On the weekend I wore:

Friday - Goth club:
-Short, black PVC dress with dog colar and fishnet stockings. Black pantent flats.

Saturday - hiphop gig:
-navy Connie All Stars, navy cotton blend stockings, grey Country Road short shorts (a puffy kind of style from last season), RED, tight, long sleeved hoodie (to match my hair) and a black chucky knitted vest. Apparently I looked "gangsta".

Had my brother's partner's birthday party on Saturday night ay an inner city Bar/Cafe.

I wore a 3/4 length black skirt with a satin ribbon belt, Black fitted top with 3/4 sleeves (cold in Hobart) and my black Manolo Blahniks (wish I had worn my long boots as the manolo's killed my feet). I carried a gold Prada clutch and wore gold jewellery. Curled my hair with my straightener on the ends and the look came together quite nicely!

I went to a wedding on Sat night and wore a black wrap dress that tied at the side, pink pearl jewellery, pink and black lace peeptoes, pink and black lace handbag (not a matching set but go together perfectly) and had my slanty bob blowdried straightish. Didn't overdo the makeup - black eyeliner and a bit of dusky pink eyeshadow, warm pink blush and pink lipstick. Also did the dark reddish-black nails!

Phwoar PCC! Sounds divine!

Last time I went 'out' was last - December (?!) to a 50th. I straightened my hair (major task) wore black pants, black boots, and a strapless earthy brown top, with a design of oriental letters in pink/purpe with a tiny hint of glitter in the dsign (kinda hard to describe). Denim jacket over the top of that. My boys HATE this top!

Sunday lunch with workfriends - I wore a Bianca Spender by Carla Zampatti black wide neck ( semi off the shoulder) velvet style knee length dress with my short black suede boots and chunky silver jewellery.
We all decided to dress glam for the occaission. It was so gorgeous to see the Chefs dressed well. Hardly recognised some of the staff. lol!

Last time I went out to a romantic dinner with my beau, I wore my favourite black pencil skirt, ivory heels with a black bow, and a navy blue silk tunic-top with long sleeves and a square neckline. It is a funny but beautiful top - quite long but not quite long enough wear as a mini-dress (I am fairly tall). I wore it tucked into the skirt like a blouse. I also tong-curled the ends of my hair. Marvelous!

The last time I went out was as Maid of Honour at my bestie's wedding, and my dress was choc brown tea-length with a turquoise ribbon around my waist and turquoise jewellery (not literally turquoise stones, but turquoise-coloured gemstone diamante thingies!). But all night I was doing the dreaded, revolting, strapless-dress-pull-up. I guess I lost a few kilos without realising it or something, but it was not a good look.

That’s an interesting colour combo, Ozcat. And I like how you describe the dresses ‘tea-length.’ Is this knee-length?

I’ve decided on a rich teal for my maids. We will all have deep purple, lilac and ivory flowers, I think. Or burgundy roses. I love roses so much! I wish you could get purple roses!

Sapphire tea-length is mid-calf length. Hard to describe but if you look at it in a picture you'll get it. Your colours sound divine. I'm wearing rich teal at the moment and I :hearts: it. I think it would go beautifully with either purple or burgundy....but I'm leaning towards purple because I'm getting a bit of a luxurious peacock vibe from it! I'd even add dashes of dark satiny blue, but that's just me!

Yeah, you should just bite the bullet and find one in the yellowpages or advertising in the classifieds! It's really great when you think "I'd love a boatneck slimfitting dress in a vivid cobalt blue" because you can just go and find your fabric, take a pic or an idea to your dressmaker, and then a few weeks later you have what you want!

fusspot I got so many compliments on my shoes last night, so you really should give coloured shoes a whirl!! Mine are actually more of a jewel-pink rather than a "hot" pink, but I guess that's neither here nor there, they're still fab-uuu-lous! I think coloured shoes would look great with all white too, or all cream, or all any colour actually! For example I saw someone in a mag wearing a cobalt blue dress with canary yellow heels, it was divine.

Wasn't there a bit of a Paris Hilton-inspired trend with brightly coloured stilettos like three or four years ago? I remember white ones were big, but also bright yellow, pink etc....I'm sure I remember seeing girls kitted out in their Supre ensembles, complete with flouro heels! Not that there's anything wrong with flouro. The 90s ruled. But I guess the newer on-trend colours are more like strong, vivid, jewel colours. I'm still loving ultra-strong cobalt blue!

Woohoo!! I was a bit worried, because remember it was majorly in about a year ago? Anyway I thought it would be dead and buried by now, but obviously there's a resurgence. Although I think the new cobalt blue is deeper, darker and slightly more purply than the brighter and lighter one of last year. I'm happy either way, because I think it looks fab on me!
