Today I got a bottle of Stila's latest fragrance called Midnight Bloom. I don't think it is available here in Australia yet. A friend got it for me in America. I love it but then again I am a fan of all 3 Stila fragrances with Creme Bouquet being my all time favourite. Anyways back on to Midnight Bloom, it contains notes of sweet fig, sandalwood and amber. Love it.

Possibly DJs but more likely at Mecca Cosmetica teacake :)
They're quite nice; what kind of scents do you go for? Creme Bouquet is a creamy (go figure!) vanilla floral, Jade Blossom has green notes and Midnight Bloom, as you've seen, is warm and spicy. I know PCC is a fan of these, especially Creme Bouquet. I think she has reviewed previously, might be worth doing a search?

OH well in Melbourne Mecca Cosmetica is in DJ's so I guess I think of them as one (yeah I know they are not).
I go for all kinds of scents with the exception of some greens which I occasionally find irritating. From the descriptions I would go for Midnight Bloom. I will keep my eye out next time I'm in DJ's (thought there is soooooo much on my list to spend time smelling there).

Flowerbomb is one that I just cannot figure out. To me it smells really sickly sweet but it dries down nicely....but I'm not sure if the drydown is worth the pain of the topnotes. It's nice when it's been sitting on a card for half a day. :)

I wanted to love it.. and might some day. Notes like that tea one that bothers me are the sort that either dominate a fragrance in my mind or fade away so I can't even remember smelling them. I haven't had a proper testing of it, yet to get my hands on a sample or decant.

I love it Jaime, I actually much prefer it to the previous two Agent Provocateur fragrances (of which I have both). The Eau Emotionelle was realy just a lighter more modernised version of the original whereas Maitresse (meaning mistress) is a completely different scent. From memory notes include: White Lotus Petals, Ylang Ylang, Osmanthus and Jasmine. It's very Jasmine to me so if you like jasmine I think you would like this one.

Hi Jaime,
Bright Crystal by Versace has notes of Pomegranate, yuzu, frosted accord, peony, magnolia, lotus, plant amber, musk and mahogany. It is a sweet floral with fruity and musky accents. I find it very light and it doesn't last terribly long on my skin but it smells so yummy (reminds me of sherbert).

Teacake, the lovely liquid satin is like an oil. Beware it stains clothing very easily and sits on the surface of the skin for quite a while. I prefer the edp personally but the smell does last for hours with the liquid satin.

Went via The Perfume Connection and ended up getting Ralph Rocks by Ralph Lauren and Dolly Girl Bonjour L'Amour by Anna Sui in there.
Next Stop was a little Boutique in Hobart where I picked up Annik Goutal's Vanille Exquise and Diptyque's Do Son fragrance (I have the candle and love it yet am a bit unsure of the fragrance now I have bought it).
Finally went through Myer and decided to get a new bottle of Chanel Coco Madmoiselle.

Hi Jaime,
Bright Crystal by Versace has notes of Pomegranate, yuzu, frosted accord, peony, magnolia, lotus, plant amber, musk and mahogany. It is a sweet floral with fruity and musky accents. I find it very light and it doesn't last terribly long on my skin but it smells so yummy (reminds me of sherbert).
Lol, that would be sapphire, Miss PCC!
Sounds a bit too sweet for me, alas :(

PCC I have a sample of Do Son. I don't recall it but here are my exact notes (I keep a spreadsheet of all my samples):
"A green tuberose
Medium lasting strength
Interesting, the green is high pitched. More transparent than creamy. Tuberose is lovely.
Keep, wear! See if second testing green element is less bothersome."
Now I can't recall this at all and I have yet to give it a second testing! But I will since you have a bottle. Lucky you to get Diptyque in Hobart, DJ's no longer carries it here.

I know Teacake, I was shocked to find it in a little boutique I frequent. Must say they only had a limited range. This little boutique also stocks Aesop, L'Occitane and Tocca (must say very starnge for Hobart). I will give the Do Son a good try and report back on my findings.

Got my Marc Jacobs today – it smells exquisite. Also spritzed some Coco Mademoiselle in Price Attack (can you believe I have never even sniffed this?) – this started out sort of boring but the dry down makes my mouth water. I got an unexpected whiff of it this afternoon and thought, who is wearing that gorgeous perfume? Then realised it was me!
Actually, what are the differences between Coco and Coco Mademoiselle? Notes etc?
teacake
18-06-2007, 10:59 PM
Coco and Coco Mademoiselle are completely different. Coco is a spicy rose.
Coco Mademoiselle has a lot of difference in the edt and edp. The edp is more creamy with the pathcouli base coming through (though this is very floral, not something a patchouli hater would notice). With the edt the grapefruit is much more prevalent. Personally I prefer the edp though I don't wear either of them. As I recall the notes are quite different for the edt and edp, really a fan would have both of them happily.

I have the Parfum's (the strongest concentrate available) in Coco, Coco Mademoiselle, Allure, Allure Sensuelle and No 5 by Chanel. They are the tiniest little bottles but the scent lasts all day and night.
Just put a dab of Coco Mademoiselle on to remind me!

I also love the pattern in the photo behind the bottle, with the dragons. I wish they would release a bottle with that pattern on it!

Today Perfume Connection was having a 15% of sale, so after much deliberation between Chanel Chance and Coco Mademoiselle, I bought the Chance. This was very brave for me - it has *gasp* patchouli in it, and I'm not the biggest fan of the big P. Chance is heady, but I like it. Will give it a few more test runs and see how it goes.
Anyone else a fan of this one? Has probably been reviewed before, but would love to hear your thoughts...

They had one of those sales last week here.. and I would have bought the Chance eau Fraiche if they carried it which they do not. I have recently tested the fraiche, edt and edp. I am a fan of the big P.. but I like the fraiche best because it has a sparkling, brighter quality. Which did you buy?
Heady is right, but I think it's a good one to have for certain times. I find it kind of a take-me-seriously fragrance but it also has a comforting quality. Congratulations on your new Chanel!

Pink Lilac, Lily of the Valley and Vanilla. It costs $115 for 50ml from Mecca Cosmetica. I have only ever seen it in a 50ml bottle and a little roller pen thingy.

Today I bought Chance eau Fraiche! It is the only concentration of Chance I like though I have tried the edp and edt many times. The eau Fraiche is so sparkling and green with that great patchouli undertone. Very Chanel, the same Chanel base as in the Allures and Cristalle to my nose.
I went to buy this at Myer but after standing around at the Chanel counter waiting for someone to show up for 10 minutes I left. I had actually tried to buy it once before at the same counter and the Chanel person was not around and another SA came over to help but couldn't find the price anywhere (it occurs to me now that she could have just scanned it). Anyway I bought it in a chemist for 14.00 less because of a sale.. Chanel should should not leave its counter unattended so often! (And they complain that the testers are constantly stolen).
Very happy with it!

The Privilge smells, weirdly, very rich as in money and glam. It's hard to describe but it immediately stands out as glamourous (unlike other BPAL's). The Pruno smells sour and icky. Frimps= free imps. Gotta love the free samples :hearts: Although they have been known to lead to another order, just to get a fullsize..........
I'm hoping they *will* lead to another order, lol. There was one frimp on my "to try" list so that was cool as I might have ordered that imp. I am really more inclined to buy bottles though. I am saving up to order when the next LE comes out which I assume will be the full moon one.

It's really hard to describe what they smell like Sapphy, The Limequat one obviously has lime in it and kind of reminds me of Jo Malones french Lime blossom. I used it last night with Jo Malones French Lime Blossom lotion and it was gorgeous. Be warned these solids are very strong. I put it on last night around 8pm and could still clearly smell it when I woke up this morning. Get into a Myer and check them out if you can. For just $20 they are lots of fun! Thinking I might go back in today and get the Bourbon Vanilla one!

Teacake, you just rub a little into the pulse points on your wrists and anywhere else you would normally wear fragrance. I am a big fan of Commes Des Garcons Solid perfumes (available at Mecca) in the sherbert range. I have Rhubarb, Sorbet and Peppermint. These ones are $75 each. They last well on the skin.
I also have Britney Spears Fantasy in the solid as well as a number of Estee Lauder solid fragrances. These Sohum ones are a good size and I can't believe how long they last! Solids are also great for travel as you can actually take them on the plane with you.
As a perfume junkie you need to check out the solids for yourself. I think yu would be pleasantly surprised at how nice they are. I mainly like them because they are a bit different and not everyone has them.

I'll check out the Sohums next time I go to Myer, I remember they have that range there. I know Lauder has released them in collectible compacts for years. I'm just such a spray junkie.. it's taken me a while to get used to oils so getting even thicker into a solid is a leap!

I have phases myself. I am right into oils and solids at the moment but then I will swap beck to sprays. I seriously think I'm going to end up burning out my sense of smell. I have to carry coffee beans around with me to clear my smell most of the time.

The last one I got was BPAL's Parliament of Monsters and some imps.
At this point I feel there is nothing left in my suburban Myer or perfumeconnection I want. Even things that are nice I have stuff that is so similar, or perhaps better that there is no point buying it. I've been hanging out for the new summer Paris which has a violet note after using up a decant of it from overseas.. but when it comes out I may not end up with it. Sometimes when I live with the idea of getting something for too long I am somehow over the whole thing by the time I have the opportunity (and I guess I could have ordered it from OS by now..) Still it's sad that that's the only thing I'm excited about at this point!

Lol RBB, how about a Top 50? :chuckle:
Seriously though, what I get with these is;
Bahama Vanilla - creamy vanilla, with light tropically fruit. Not a 'foody' sniff as such.
Temple of the Goddess - Black Raspberry & Vanilla - OH MY GOD!!!
ThaiPhoon - Lemongrass & coconut with a tiny hint of tiare - this is just heavenly!
Seduction of the Foolish Lover - Initial hit of apple, then a melange of cranberry, vanilla and a hint of wood moves in to underly the apple. This one gets a LOT of positive remarks.
Vanille Coco Folie - almost but not quite foody vanilla - nice and rich. Sexy as.
Aliens - Really hard to describe this one - it's unique and divine.
Ghost - lychees..................... *drool* Flowers - quite a 'light' scent.
Cherry Blossoms - light airy floral with a hint of something fresh.
Silk Slip - caramel, but not foody. Sexy.
Neroli di Orsini - Orange Blossom of the finest order.
Rosie Loves Vanilla - I wasn't sure of this initially, it smelt plasticky. But experience has shown that if you wait you will be rewarded. Gorgeous sweet vanilla and roses, with a hint of musk. This will get better with age.
Best Friend - light, sweet citrus. Not sharp at all. I smell oranges/mandarins and flowers.
My Boyfriend's Back - flowers and a sweetness that is TDF. Not sugary or foody. Just YUM!
Kiss of the Vampre - Bourbon Vanilla and sultry flowers - oh yeah baby! Sultry as. Very sensuous.
Calla Lily - green floral, but no aldehyde. Lovely
Flower Bomb - flowers and patchouli. Dead ringer to a sample of the original.
Lolita - another spot on dupe.
A Mermaid's Wish - Airy, sunshiney floral. A 'happy' scent, perfect for the warmer months
Velvet Vixen - Amber, vanilla and ? Foody but not like a cake - I do NOT want to smell like something people eat.
Pink Satin V-String - Can't describe this, makes my mouth water. But again, not a 'foody' scent.
Lime Coconut Verbena - Fresh, with a hint of something I can't place. Light, refreshing and lovely.
Tahitian Petals - tropical green and flowers - think Monoi.
Kulu bay - more tropics, but these are more Antipodean, and have hints of cranberry.
Santa's Pipe - pipe tobacco, honey and an old fashioned garden flower of some sort.

Wow, thank you - especially the feedback about these ones not being too foodie. I was a bit hesitant when I read some descriptions; but am very keen to some of the spicy vanilla/cinnamon/ginger ones. ThaiPhoon and Tahitian Petals sound divine as well.

It is Miss Sapphire - what notes do you detect? :worship:
Well, I have not read of the actual notes anywhere so what I suggest may be right off the radar! However, I detect on the top note very strong patchouli notes - I don't really like Patchouli, it smells a bit icky to me so I was afraid when I first smelled that when I applied the NR for the first time! But this mellowed out a lot, to become something very musky, perhaps a touch of amber. I could almost describe it as a 'husky-voiced' smell, lol! I think this is where I get the 'animalistic' tones. The 'feminine' tones bring something a bit delicate to the fragrance, like a touch of powdery rose; something old-fashioned and unabashedly female. Perhaps another floral note too but I cannot pick it yet.
raspberryberet
05-09-2007, 10:13 PM
I'm not a patchouli fan either Sapph, so I was also surprised at how much I loved this. I feel it's a tamer (though still quite different) version of Agent Provocateur - one of my faves but sometimes hard to wear.
NR is very powdery and musky, but I also get a lot of floral in the drydown. I can really smell the rose in this. Lasts all day too. I like it more and more, and glad you do too!
It's officially described as being in the 'mossy woods' family: here are the notes -
"The EDP... features rose and peach, being more floral, with the accent on pink roses, than the original EDT. The EDP notes include pink chypre, pink floral, voluptuous woods, soft amber, sheer chypre, flower honey, tactile woods, amber light."
If you get to sniff the EDT, which I also love (a bit fresher), notes are - "Narciso Rodriguez EDT includes honey flower, solar musk, orange blossom, osmanthus, amberlyn, vanilla, tactile musk, tactile woods, vetiver."

Thank you so much! Of course, now I want this...................... but somehow I think it may have to wait, as I am still on a No Buy.
EAT: after reading what RBB has said, I would be avoiding the EDT - I have issues with vetiver :tears: Saves the budget I guess

Interesting. I cannot smell the peach in the edp at all. But it does smell a bit honeyish, probably due to the amber.

I bought D&G Sicily EDP for $30 last week, I put it away for my Mum for Christmas. They had the matching lotion for $10 and I didn't get it as my Mum doesn't tend to be into layering, but I'm wondering if I ought to get it anyway??
