Hi all...
Well the searching has started to find my dress for the big day - which is fast approaching!!
Need your help on deciding on a style. I want something a little different - and nothing plain! I love lace, i love detail, so let me know what you think on the below dresses.
I will be getting my dress made so will probably incorporate bits of the different dresses but i cant decide on what!

Oh Timtam, they are all so absolutely stunning that I don't know which to chose. So I am no help whatsoever! Is there a particular one there that you are leaning towards?

no...thats the problem! haha they are all slightly different but i love them all

1. love the 'softness' of this dress
2. love the style of the skirt - something different as i dont want a plain boring skirt
3. love the gathered effect on the skirt and the lace coming through, and the ribbon detail on the bodice
4. like 3. love the gathering and the lace coming through

Okay, I've studied them again, and I really think that the third one is the "show stopper". Like I said, they are all stunning, but this one has something else as well (plus its a bit sexy!). What do you think?

Yeah i like this one too - it has a bit of everything i love, but im just biased so its good to get some opinions! thank you beauty*product*junkie

No probs! I'm so excited for you ... I remember how exciting it was when I finally got my wedding dress IN MY HANDS!!!! It was scheduled to be finished two days before the wedding, and I was super duper stressed about it, so don't do that, not a good idea at all!!
tim tam

haha im just stressed about making a decision! i'm so indecisive and having to make a decision so far out before the day is freaking me out because i tend to change what i like / dislike so frequently!

what do you think of number 3, but with the soft fabric (ie an organza fabric) of number 1 for the gathered bit on the left?

Hey Tim Tam, what's your body shape? I know we don't know each other that well but just thought I'd ask! Might help determine the style as much as the detail...?
From the four pics I like the first one and also the "peek through" effect of the lace on the third; I think too much detail can sometimes overwhelm the dress and you want people to be looking at you as much as what you're wearing (you wear the dress, it doesn't wear you, if you know what I mean?). It's so personal and I know you like detail, and it's great that you're getting someone to make it because it means you can take elements of one dress and put them with another.
Keep us posted though, I love weddings and the dress is the best bit!!

Hi raspberryberet, im more of an hourglass figure. Im a size 12 so im not huge, but a slim line dress would not suit me which is why im going fuller (and i love the ball gown wedding dress!). I have a big bust also so i will be going for a sweetheart bodice line (thats the only thing i know for sure!)
Take your comments on me wearing the dress and not vice versa - very true!
I'm hoping to go and visit the lady that will be making my dress next week and i will give her the pics and see what she says also.
Thanks! :)

Thanks raspberryberet. Im hoping the style of the dress will suck all the bad bits in hehe
ok, for what a single 23 year old opinion is worth... here it is:
1. love the intricate bodice, and especially how the top is straight (not sweetheart neck line) The skirt fabric also looks amazingly soft! very classy and pretty at the same time.
2. Adore the colour!! Not sure I like the low hipline gathering. I think this shortens peoples legs and lengthens the torso.. in a weird way
3.Think there is a little bit too much going on with this dress. It's hard to focus and appreciate it.
4. Love the glimpse of lacy organza showing from the bottom and side!
Hrmm.. overall.. I'd have to go for number 1...
Elizabeth

Im with Sarah. Number 1.
I think it really depends on your body shape/colouring. I think number 3 would swamp a size 6/8 but would look great on a person with more curves and fleshier shoulders.
1 and 4 looking smashing on the models with tanned skin so it's hard to imagine how they'd look on paler skin.
My fav is number 2. Looks like something a Spanish dancer might wear :hearts:
Your dress should suit the theme of your wedding which is partially why I love number 2 so much, it calls up images of wild dancing and joy.

No 2.
I think that is based on it not being white & being the most modern of the 4. Sorry but I'm really not a fan of the big white wedding dress, they all look the same to me.
I love that coffee colour & the drop diagonal hip line. I like the detail on the gather too.
Have you had a chat with the dressmaker yet? They could advise you on what style would suit your body type. The type of fabric you pick will also affect the drape of the dress so ask their opinion on that too.

Thanks ladies...looks like its pretty split now!
Havent spoken to the dressmaker yet - i was hoping to go with one or two pics rather than a million that i seem to be gathering because each dress has something about it that i like / dislike.
Love everyone's opinions, much appreciated.

I like number 3, bu only because I am not a fan of the white puffy, lacy dresses - they remind me of my grandmothers toilet doll dresses....(not your dresses, just in general). I love the latte colour of number 3, and the draping wasteline - it's just that bit different and eye-catching to me.
Good luck though, wedding dresses are sooo personal and you, the bride, have to love it!! (since you will have these photos to remind you for the rest of your life).

I like the simple, elegant ones so out of those you've listed my top picks are 1 and 4 - they look classy and stylish.
But in saying that they are all gorgeous and am sure your dressmaker would be able to take elements from each that you like to create something perfectly suited to you.
I know my friend did something like this - she tried all the different styles on and then took photos/pics of the styles she liked to the dressmaker and had them all blended into her perfect dress! She looked amazing! :glee:
Good luck - can't wait to see the finished product!

I love number 4. I love the lace etc. Number one is also gorgeous.
I am in a wedding later this year and the bride is luck enough to have Alex Perry making her dress.
I guess it is quite difficult choosing the perfect dress because there are just so many options. My friend simply walked into Alex Perry on her first meeting and he said to her "i know exactly what will work for you" he drew up a sketch and she loved it. If only it was that easy for everyone.
Is it rude of me to think spending $25,000 dollars on a wedding dress is just stupid! I would want the entire wedding and the honeymoon to cost that if it were me!

Wow, can't believe AP is making your friend's dress! Sigh.
But no, I don't think it's rude of you - it's so much money, even if it is the wedding dress you've always dreamt of. It's seriously unlikely you're ever going to wear it again.
I read somewhere that the average Australian wedding costs between $35,000 & $40,000 now. That shocks me. It's almost a house deposit! I know it's a special day and different for everyone depending on location, number of guests, theme etc..just seems like a lot of dosh to me...
What do others think/what experiences have others had on the money side of things?

What do others think/what experiences have others had on the money side of things?
My parents got married on a Monday night at a shmancy restaurant. They wore the clothes they had worn to work that day and just had a few good friends join them. They didn't even buy engagement rings (my Dad is a farmer and they decided to buy a heifer instead - lol).
While I don't think I'll do something like that for my wedding, I'm definitely not going to spend $40,000. Big celebrations like that make me anxious and uncomfortable (if they're my own - e.g. year 12 formal) and I imagine it would be difficult financially as a newly-wed couple, so I would definitely want to put my money toward more important things (buying a house).

Holy moly! $25,000 on a dress?? My whole wedding (one day!) will be a budget for about $20,000.
That's unbelievable. Some people have more money then they know what to do with!

That is an insane amount of money to spend on a dress, Alex Perry or not. Wedding are such exy things no matter what u do. We tried to keep the expense small at ours as we paid for it ourselves & I think we did a pretty good job. It still cost a bit.
I junted for a white gold wedding ring all year & finally found a silver one I liked 2 weeks before the wedding, it cost $12!

Hello there ladies,
Well, i've been thinking of my dress and even though i was wanting to design something based on the dresses posted above, i cant stop thinking about the very first dress i tried on shown here: http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i242/timtamss/Wedding/Pronovias-Olga.jpg
What do you think of this one? I wouldnt be able to change anything about it as it comes from Spain as is. I really do like it though...a little different
raspberryberet

Very pretty TT, and a bit sexy too! Would be lovely with your hair up with flowers and a lace/embroidered mantilla over the shoulders (in case it got cold), in keeping with the spanish theme!
tim tam
01-04-2007, 10:58 PM
i will most probably have something over my shoulders - mainly because of the formality of the ceremony (shouldnt have my shoulders exposed) and it will prob be lacy so i was thinking if i had too much lace on my dress (like the original posted ones) then it might be too much??
also want one of those veils with lace trim so i wouldnt want it to be lace overload :p
raspberryberet
01-04-2007, 11:03 PM
Hmmmmmmmmm........see what you mean, yes, it could possibly be lace overload! But might be hard to tell until you get the dress...you could get something in a quite sheer material - like silk - perhaps with lace edging or inserts, so it's not too full-on? You could get something made after you get the dress perhaps...make sure you keep us posted, just loving the wedding threads!
Have you thought about the bridesmaids dresses?
tim tam
01-04-2007, 11:09 PM
Yeah i will be going to try the dress on again soon raspberryberet and i will ask the dressmaker her opinion too!
Bridesmaids dresses, yes, my next drama :D All i have thought about is the colour - probably a goldy/champage colour and i want something very flowy and feminine. Havent seen anything around i like - everything is too bridesmaid-y

Tim tam, as soon as I read about your bridesmaids dress colour option, I thought about a very flattering style like the one made famous by Donna Karan, really simple and elegant. Will see if I can locate a pic for you. My sister in law got married in Collette Dinnigan but her style was to die for, very grecian with a founcy halter style with a tie around neck. Both of these were made from a satin material. Again, will see if I can find any pics. Good luck!

I love the idea of getting married and having an intimate dinner on a weeknight. It can still be lovely but it doesn't have to be a big to-do. Having said that, I looooove a good wedding - I'm addicted to wedding shows like Bridezillas - but for myself, I think, I'd either go the Vegas route or the weeknight route. It doesn't mean it can't be beautiful, elegant and memorable - in fact I think it might be a nice change from the cookie-cutter weddings! Toastie are your parents still married?

Hi tim tam,
How exciting! My personal choice is the first one- there is a classic beauty to it that will never date.
Having said that, I have a question for you- if you clear your mind for a moment and let the images of all these dresses come naturally to you, is there one that automatically floats to the surface before the others? You're best bet is to stop thinking so much and let instinct come to the fore. Then you will have your perfect dress!
The other advice I have is to think to yourself, if you really love them all then you cannot go wrong whichever one you choose- so there will be no wrong decision and you are guaranteed to look amazing.
I only know this because I recently bought my wedding dress. I tried on about 5 or 6 and honestly, they all looked stunning which sounds great but I was so confused because the styles were quite different! In the end I thought to myself, which one is really me and then ?I knew- a slim, silk collette dinnigan gown. I am in love! it is sort of 1930s style, sort of Art Nouveau, sort of grecian goddess. The colour is 'seashell' which is like a warm champage colour. It is the same design as the pink one in the link below but the colour is different obviously. It fits like glove and has a small train. I am thinking of getting a long, cathedral style veil with art nouveau detailing to go with it. Although the thought of wearing a veil sort of freaks me out...

Sapphire - that is some great advice! I will take this weekend to clear my mind from all these dresses and see where my mind drifts...Congratulations on getting your dress!
BPJ - the only thing i would want to change is try and make the bodice a sweetheart shape instead of straight - only because im big busted and this creates the illusion of a smaller bust. Other than that i love this dress and cant stop thinking about it.

I do love it- I have been secretly trying it on at home when future hubby is out. I wear gloves when I try it on so I don't accidentally snag the silk with rough fingernails!
I saw that dress months ago on the website and thought immediately- this is the one. Then when I actually went shopping with my mum we tried on other gorgeous dresses and at the end of the day I saw the CD one in DJs. I also took it as a good omen because when I was trying it on one of my favourite classical pieces of music began playing- Claude Debussy's Clare de Lune. I would love to walk down the aisle to that- so it was a sign!
tim tam the fact that you said you cannot stop thinking of the last dress is a sign too, methinks. Don't worry about the neckline- I think loveheart necklines actually draw attention to a smaller bust. I am so excited for you!

My maids are paying for their own too- as much as I would love to pay for them, 5 dresses would add up to quite a lot!
What do you Adorables think an acceptable price to expect my bridesmaids to pay for their dresses?
I quite expensive tastes so I know if I even think for a second that a certain dress is 'perfect' it usually means it will be one of the most expensive pieces in the room! But my bridesmaids have differing incomes and budgets and only one of them would spend big on clothes normally anyway, so I don't want to make them pay $900 for a CD cocktail dress, but I don't want cheesy taffeta either!

Sapphire when my close pal got married I paid about $150 for the dress, and that was fine with me. It was quite wedding-y so I haven't worn it again...but I would be prepared to pay a bit more for a dress that I could wear a few times. They might feel the same way...?

I think $200 is the maximum I would ever ask someone to pay for a dress that I wanted them to wear. Ideally I'd try to find something as inexpensive as possible because no matter what we say, we rarely wear these things again, and $200 is a crapload of money for people who don't spend up big on clothes. A good solution might be for you to buy the fabric and ask them to have the dress made to a pattern of their choice? That way you'd get the exact colour you wanted and they might be happier about paying for something that's a little more in their style. Or, perhaps you could go halves with the girls if you have your heart set on something particular?

I was a bridesmaid about five years ago, one of four. We were all really close friends from school, we all went shopping for her dress, and all chose the bridesmaid dresses together. WE all chose a two piece dress that cost us $250 each, we just laybyed them. I had no hesitation as I also have expensive taste and I wanted that dress - they just looked beautiful and we ALL looked great on the day.
Besides, I have worn mine three times since and also lent it out to my sisters and their friends!!! CD however would have blown my mind and no such budget for me back then. Now I couldafford it, but would be annoyed (this is probably what I would spend on an actual wedding dress....)

I always think it is nice to have bridemaids dresses made. This way the dresses are made to fit each individual person perfectly. You can pick the exact colour and material that you want. You have someone to rely on for any last minute alterations that may be required and you are making it practically impossible for any other wedding guest to turn up dressed in the same dress as your bridesmaids (i've seen this happen a few times).
As far as price is concerned you really do need to try and keep costs down as much as possible. As often bridemaids are expected to pay for their own dresses, shoes, hair and makeup and then there are always other little incidental costs that pop up. I think you should sit down with your bridemaids and discuss it and set a budget. This way you can see what each person can afford etc.

This is a great idea- this means they will be unified in fabric if I buy it for them. I am also living interstate to where I will be married, and all the maids live in Victoria, so it will have been hard for us to converse extensively about it...
Also, their styles are quite different naturally so if I give them the fabric, plus a theme (ie 1930s or art nouveau evening cocktail) then they will still look individual yet cohesive. Thank you!

Sapphire, I have seen some gorgeous bridal parties that have had the same fabric and just a variation on the theme. Particulaly good for different body shapes as well. Just be clear on the theme and have everyone on the same wavelength!

Tim Tam that dress is just gorgeous. I love the lifted layers and that detail on the skirt. I think it incorporates alot of the elements that you liked about the initial 4. I love the sweetheart bust line idea too. Just gorgeous.
I adore the colour (and the dress) of the CD dress with the key hole front. That oyster champagne colour. Devine :clapping: :hearts:

I think that is important. Of all the weddings I have been part of I have never been given an outlay of costs, they just keep adding up. At one my whole family was involved. So I had to pay for outfits, accessories, hair, make up, shoes etc for 4 of us. My husband was MC, me MOH & my daughters, flowergirls. Our 3 dresses had to be made by a dressmaker. Add to that travel & accomodation as it was an out of town wedding. It was a costly excercise.

wow that would have been alot of money , i think it is a good idea to talk about it
i had a friend that was going through financial problems [she was a bridesmaid for a friend of hers] & the dress cost kept escalating & she told them but they basically said bad luck :flames: , geez i think i would have pulled out & dumped them with the cost , after been treated so badly. the dress was about $400 & this was 13 yrs ago :shockedhair: & the dress was ugly back then . Picture this , dusty pink water wave taffeta , drop waist , puffy sleeves :shockedhair: :vomit:

I am going through that at the moment - I am MOH for my best friend whose wedding is on the Sunny Coast, and my whole family is attending. I've paid for my whole outfit but she's beautiful and has offered to pay for my airfare down there, which I thought was really lovely. We still have to pay accommodation and stuff, but that's ok I guess. You're right though, the costs do add up really easily with a wedding.
Half of me thinks that the bridal party shouldn't have to pay anything (it shouldn't cost you hundreds to be in someone else's wedding) but then the other half thinks you should pay for all your stuff (that way you get more say in your dress, and you probably would have bought a new dress anyway, and it's an honour to be asked, blah blah).
Really, who wears their dress again though? :chuckle:

Not no one - there are some people that know - one of his best mates works there knows, and another chick he is good friends with knows, and a few of my friends know. BUt that's it. Oh - and the boy decided to tell our big boss one day which freaked me out - it made it seem so set in concrete and took me totally by surprise. One of the managers he works with suspects and tries to catch me out but I think she has given up.
There used to be HEAPS of rumours about us and we were in different states, go figure.
My flatemate was saying last night actually (he works with us) that he is surprised no one says anything about how much time we spend together and him sitting on my desk talking for half an hour and all these othr things, because he thinks we are becoming more obvious and comfortable and touchy.
Maybe the people we work with are are just really dumb :chuckle:

Yeah I get it constantly. We have been together for 7 years. I have gotten quite teary and angry before when its constant pressure from both our families. Its like we are failing them by not getting married. I think they forget that I am still so young, and still have so much to do. I think at the end of the day they really want grandkids, which is fair enough, but jesus, pressuring us is not going to make that happen any quicker.
That would be hard. I dont think I would be able to do that loola. Is it because it will be frowned upon in the office?? There are so many rumours about couples in my office, but I doubt half of them are true.

I plan to keep my own bank account too! I like it that way. I trust him - he trusts me - god, I know all his passwords and bank account numbers - and he told me his Facebook one on Saturday which was REALLY weird.
You know what offices are like - gossip gossip gossip - we just don't feel a need to broadcast it. There are a handful of peoole that know, and all his friends and my friends out of work know. Should things continue as I hope, there will no doubt be a point where it woul dbe revealed - I can already see the gobsmacked faces.
Sometimes I would like people to know - but it's normally when the girls in his teams are doing things and I'd love to just shut them down, or like when he gave me a Christmas present and I just want to hug and kiss him, but other than that, it's kinda exciting people not knowing hehe.

Things are much better, but we just spent the weekend with both families and the pressure to settle down is immense. It has us both a bit wound up. I know we shouldnt let it bother us but it does. Me especially, I start acting crazy and totally changing my mind about things just cos of what they say. And then he thinks im insane, cos im angry about stuff i didnt care about before.
Meh, we will get over it.

Yeah parents can do that .... I guess I'm lucky that my brother is marrying Satan so anyone I bring home will be a bonus and they won't care what happens. But I do feel a defintie pressure to have kids, especially as what happened with my niece.
But so not the right reason to get married, and I love you know that. Be crazy, we are all at times. Whatever you need to deal with it and get through it. You're strong and you will be true yourself.

so when is your big day PCC ?
Hi Fussy:waving:, 22nd November this year. A bit sooner than I had planned but I had to compromise with the boy as he wanted it sooner rather than later.
I am so layed back about the entire thing and haven't even thought about any of the details! The church and reception venue are only booked because my Mum raced and did it the day we told her the date. It is tradition in our family to get married in a particular church and Mum knew where I would want the reception to be so more power to her for organising it all!:chuckle:
I have no sense of urgency about anything really, in fact I think the boy is more into it at the moment than I am. As long as it is a lovely day that is special for the two of us I don't really care about the details.
There will be no bridezilla antics with me peoples.

I think it is so funny how these guys are getting right into the whole wedding thing. It's kind of cute. I am the least excited out of everyone I know. I guess as the time draws closer I may get more into it but at the moment it just seems too far away to worry about.
My dress will be very simple and plain and most likely ivory. The hardest parts will be choosing the bridemaids as I really don't want a big wedding party but I have so many close friends and family. Think I will just go with my best friend and my fiance's sister.

Weekend 1, we drove around, and found a garden. Got that, the reception & the flowers sorted that weekend.
Weekend 2, my mum, my sister & I went dress shopping - got it in less than 3 hours.
Weekend 3, we took mum shopping - that took all bluddy day.
Then, we just coasted until the actual day. Apart from a couple of meetings with the celebrant, and discussions with my mother over the fact that we were NOT having attendants, and that it was a small wedding, not a fancy do.

PCC that is two days before my wedding was - I married on the 24th last year. You sound like you are in the perfect space mentally, although trust me - things will get at least a tiny bit more stressful as the day draws closer! I am so happy for you. Marriages are sometimes underrated these days (despite the hype) so that we expect a big shebang on the day but nothing much else afterwards. For me, being part of a 'marriage' was a subtly magical, precious thing. It is like a magical, strange object that you have to protect with your heart and life - a real entity in this world. :)

RB & PCC - remember that your boys have been thinking about getting married long before they proposed so they already have their heqad around it. Let them make some decisons and don't forget to ask their opinions. Its important to do these things together.
Do your own thing. This is a biggie. Don't feel pressured to follow "The Rules" and make the day your own. It will make a lasting impression and you will enjoy yourself more in an enviroment that is comfortable to you. I broke tons & tons of tradtions with our our wedding & stepped on quite a few toes but it was worth every fight. It was OUR day.
My other piece of advice is to organise to the last detail with your professionals. Make sure that everyone is crystal clear of their role. The last thing you want is constant interruptions and questions by the caterer/MUA/celebant/photographer etc. Make them invisible.

I think I might need a wedding planner!! I can't be bothered with all the little details! Choosing bridesmaids has been tricky as I have so many friends and relatives who have had me in their weddings and I don't want to offend anyone but I also don't want a massive wedding party.
I have asked my girls yesterday and they include my best friend who I grew up with since we were at preschool and who I have just visited in London. My other Best Friend who I went to Boarding School with and met when I was 12. My boys sister (who I absolutely love) and my brothers girlfriend because My Mum wanted it and My brother's going to be in it anyway. So four is more than I wanted anyway. But I am relieved the decision has been made. I have other close friends who are going to do readings and my cousin is going to sing in the church (she has an amazing voice).
I am also having my three god daughters take part but they are going to be taken care of by my cousin and aunt. I am thining of steeling Medusa's idea and having them dressed as fairies as they are only small.
I bet no one can guess what colour bridemaids dresses I am having?

They have just built a new house together and we have been getting along a lot better after a strained first few years and I just want family harmony. She cried when I asked her and gave me the biggest hug and I think it is the right thing. It also made my brother happy and he means the world to me so I don't mind. Though my first order of business would still have been you choosing who you wanted. I would have hated if Stupid Kylie asked me out of obligation. Of course, as it turned out, she had her sisters, my brother was having my other 3 brothers, and I was going to be the loser in the pew - that made me feel a ittle stupid. Maybe I would have got some naff job like Miranda is SATC with the guestbook :chuckle: THank god I won't be going.

Lol Rasp,
It just wouldn't be a PCC wedding without pink bridesmaids dreses now would it?:chuckle: I am kind of thinking of having four different shades of pink and four different styles of dresses to suit each individual bridesmaid. They are all quite small in build but I think I will leave it up to them to choose the styles they want and just have the same type of material for all the dresses. Most importantly I want them to feel good and comfortable on the day and I want them to be happy with what they are wearing.

PCC I had five bridesmaids and it was wonderful - a mix of my little sister, best friends and niece - but be warned, the more bridesmaids you have the harder and more frustrating they will be! Mine were all wonderful but organising five of everything from another state and trying to get them all to communicate was a nightmare!
I also love your idea of different versions of pink dresses. I chose a teal silk for my maids and they had their own dresses made in whatever style they wanted - as long as it was in some way 'elegant cocktail'. Because of their lack of communication and my being in WA when they were in Vic, I was a little nervous that the finished dresses would clash with one another but it really worked - plus the look of five maids in the same colour and different styles walking through the crowd looked amazing. Please let me know if at any point you need any advice on anything wedding, PCC - I am now a bona fide pro and it is all still so fresh in my mind!

From a BM's point of view, it can be INCREDIBLY difficult to communicate with four other girls on things like shoes, jewellery, hem lengths etc. Usually the weekends are the only times that people have free and it can be very difficult for everyone to get together at the same time. With that in mind, sometimes it can be easier to make decisions on your own and not involve the girls, for example on shoes. That way you don't need to have five girls traipsing around to different shoe shops with one saying "I don't like peeptoes" and another going "I don't want slingbacks". I know that as a BM I would have appreciated my brides being a little more "hardass". In large groups of girls, if the bride doesn't establish herself as a firm, committed leader, then one of the bridesmaids definitely will, and that is NEVER good.
I've had this happen. Our dresses turned from antique pink to blue, and the styles of the dresses changed completely - all because one of the other bridesmaids was very particular, and the bride was very laid-back.

It wasn't hell but did become difficult, C! Our bride was so laid-back to the point of almost not-caring, and her mum wasn't really on the scene either. Honestly I would have preferred to be told what she wanted my dress, shoes, hair etc to be like, instead of having to make the decisions with the other girls. I still get PTSD when I go into a fabric shop cos I remember the stress involved! :chuckle:
My bestie was sort of similar, she was trying to be really accomodating by letting me wear whatever I wanted in her colours, but I would have preferred guidance if truth be known! She was a lot better though - she'd already decided how she wanted hair and makeup to be, and also I didn't have any other girls to deal with so my shoes and jewellery were up to me.

I told her to go ahead and choose it and she went troppo!! I think she has been living for this day for the whole entirety of my life and she is going off the deep end!
Oh and she's wanting me to get Alex Perry to do my dress and hers aswell. I couldn't give a rats about my dress and it's still ten months away. Hopefully a few kilos shed between now and then.
Don't get me wrong I want the day to be beautiful and special but I am just not one of these people who is into the tiny details! I'm just like "oh whatever". Perhaps it's because I have been through quite a lot with illness etc and to me the wedding isn't the biggest deal I have ever had to deal with!

I'll choose your cake for you!!! Mmmmm cake.
As for your mum, she's just being a mum. :) After everything you've been through, as her only daughter, she's probably overjoyed that you are here and she can help you plan your wedding!

I am so going to be relying on all of you for help and advice in order to pull this wedding off successfully and to keep my Mum happy by pretending to be interested in the tiny little details.

PCC darling, I hear you! And the most important thing for you is to enjoy the lead-up, not to be worried about details (though sounds like you have people to help with this!).
An Alex Perry dress would be amazing!

Mmm...I think that for many brides they have so much on that they want the maids to take some control - as long as the bride gives them direction. I was quite stressed with the whole thing in the end and I really needed to not worry about certain things, like if the maids shoes matched. But I do agree that the bride needs to project-manage her bridal party to an extent. With my maids and the shoes, for example I said wear what you want as long as it is silver and dress-sandal with straps. This worked well as there are a lot of styles in that genre out there. But remember that while the maids have a lot to think about, the bride has a whole lot more and essentially, they are there to make sure the bride does not have a breakdown!

Geeze at this rate my Mum will be giving me a breakdown! Did you find your Mum got over enthusiastic Sapphy?

Maybe give her certain things you want her to do PCC? Like, the cake, decorations etc? You worry about the things that concern you most - your outfit, the colour of the bridesmaid's dress colours.

Umm yeah Rosie but she's like wanting me to be involved in all the decision making and thinks I am being horrible for not being bursting at the seams with joy and excitement.
She's organised a bloody tasting at the reception venue in a few weeks and has invited the boy and his family over to participate. I mean who does that when the wedding's ten months away. She says it because the weather now will be similar to the time so we will be in a good position to test the climate out for the dishes etc. My boy thinks it's hysterical and said we should go to Gold Class at the movies whilst the parentals decide.
I tried to talk to her today but she just doesn't get it. As far as she is concerned this is as much her day of days as it is mine and she just wants to soak it all up and enjoy every moment. After all she says "you are our only daughter". I wish I had thought of eloping before setting the date!

Ah yes, there it is - the only daughter syndrome. I must admit, I think my sister is going to cop it bigtime when/if she gets married. I was sooooooo laid back, Mum missed the whole thing.
:hugs:
Hi PCC!! I have missed so much in just a couple of days!! I just wanted to say I'm so happy for you and it's so fun reading about your plans. Make sure you keep us informed so we can live vicariously through you!!
RBB, I showed my mum you dres last night and she thinks it's like the most awesome dress ever, 'speshly the back!

Yowza. Sounds like you have Mum-zilla on your hands darling one! I can see where she's coming from, but at the same time the last thing you want is to feel stressed out 10 months out. Maybe some quiet time with just the two of you would help...?

Actually, that pink wedding dress is the same colour my friends is getting married in this friday and very similar in how big the skirt bit is, very princessy, however not as frilly and more simple.
