What are you eating right now?
Its the middle of the night & I am eating Monte Carlo biscuits! My kids made me buy them for them & they are going to be ****** in the morning when they find that I have eaten half of them!!! I knew I shouldn't have opened them. Damn!

It's so funny that someone started this thread!!! I am a majorly healthy eater during the day but late night is my absolute downfall......at least once a week late at night I will scoff some type of biscuits (WHY do I buy them? WHYYY?!!!). Tonight I ate about five chocolate thingies with mint stuff in the middle of them, from the Coles bakery section.
Stupid late night studying (and forum lurking).

Am drinking coffee at the moment (my first one to wake me up for the day, best not to talk to me before I finish this, as my work collegues know!), I am seriously craving some salty fried dim sims and potato cakes though, can't stop thinking about them.

ohh you sooooo do not want to know what i had today so far!
Had a work breakfast function so Bacon, Cheesy scrambled eggs, sausage, hash brown.. followed by a custard filled danish and a couple of strawberries.
Then when I got back to work we had a morning tea, so Shingle Inn cake (Brissy girls will know what I'm talking bout here!), lamingtons and easter eggs... I had one of each plus more than one egg (little solid ones).
Am now thinking bout lunch, but might be good and get a salad....

15-03-2007, 01:53 PM
Drinking a cup of Earl Grey and pondering my next move...stomach rumbling...little devil on my shoulder seriously pushing for some hot chips. Little angel wants salad.
Tussling...energetically...and the winner is...salad, boohoo.

Does anyone else turn into an eating machine before their period? I am really devoted to eating healthily, but sometimes I will just binge like nothing else on earth. I ate a heap of biscuits last night and this morning I had a healthy breakfast, but since then I had a small tub of hommus with jatz (the fattiest crackers in existence!) and just now I ate two slices of toast with peanut butter. Now I'm thinking of the next thing to eat! I'm absolutely insatiable come PMS time.
raspberryberet
15-03-2007, 02:34 PM
Yes, me too Ozkat. I'm a walking PMS cliche. All sweet stuff for me though, or comfort food like chips.
Stupid salad. Me want chips.

OMG home icecream is in my street right now!!!
Who do they think is going to buy icecream at 12:41 on a Thursday (apart from PMSing uni students)?
I want to get some but I don't want to do the embarassing barefoot dash down the street waving my money - "waiiittt!!!!!".....my neighbours already have to see that every week when I forget to put the wheelie bin out and have to run after the garbage man.

Yes I am a binge PMS eater too. I try not to keep bad food at home but if there is nothing I will find something. Last time I was eating the dark cooking chocolate (by the handful) but I have been known to eat Milo with a spoon also. Chocolate is No 1 for me, I'm useless.

15-03-2007, 03:45 PM
Now I'm craving hotdogs, baaaaad. I'm so having some for dinner... if I can wait that long.
I usally have PMS cravings for fatty salty food, intermigled with a great need for chocolate, but am no where near PMS time, so what's with me cravings? (Am asking myself that).
Elizabeth

I always crave salty foods when Im PMS'ing. At the moment Im eating Strawberry Rock lollies from Sticky that I bought at lunchtime today.

Bubbles be damned!! What planet are you from?!! (hehe Bubbles reminds me of Bubbles deVere from Little Britain....I guess the health resort would explain the ginger tea!)
I'm going to post everything I've eaten today...THIS IS NOT A JOKE. My period will definitely arrive tomorrow, I can guarantee it.
- Cereal and fruit for breakfast (started off well lol)
- 4 choc-mint bikkies
- a few Snickers bikkies
- a plate of nachos for lunch (nothing healthy on em)
- crackers with hommus
- more cookies
- 2 slices toast with peanut butter
- cup of blueberries & raspberries
- dinner - chicken in filo pastry with salad
- more berries and some tim-tams.
I think that's about 5000 calories! Oh I forgot to mention I've done NO exercise today.
Now for some more tim-tams.
raspberryberet
16-03-2007, 11:27 AM
That's calorific! But as my nanna says - as long as you get some enjoyment out if it, that's the main thing.
I'm currently working my way through an enormous cup of Earl Grey and a blueberry muffin. In approximately 5 minutes will also be tucking into the standard Friday public service section morning tea. Cake, cake, and more cake.
Elizabeth

This morning I had museli with skim milk and a cup of english breakfast tea, and now Im having a cup of white tea. Ive also already had 3 glasses of water.

Well I started off well.. until I got to work today.
Had half a muffin with one of the women at work, and a coffee - not too bad.
Then we had yet another morning tea so I had one party size sausage roll - yum!
Then I had lunch - salad... washed down with 4 mini easter eggs.
We're having a big St Patricks day thing here today so we have a big aftternoon event of drinking/eating so it's all going to go downhill from there!
OK, I had a chocolate easter egg for morning tea, pizza for lunch, and I'm booked at a pizza restaurant for dinner!

We had a healthy home made version of take-away tonight - home made hamburgers on the barbie. Lovely lean meat, a slice of sinful bacon, onion, home made tomato sauce, cheese, beetroot and pineapple on a toasted bun. Yum, better that the take-away version and no oily burgers. Didnt undo it with chips, though they wouldve been nice!

Ooh, it's YUM, Hubby grilled two slices for me tonight. It's all in the "building" and positioning of the ingredients, trust me, give it a go. Certainly "lightens up" the burger too.

16-03-2007, 09:41 PM
Very true. I should give pineapple a second chance (doesn't everyone deserve a second chance, even pointy fruit?). Actually I think it's just the fruit-savoury combo in general. I've been scarred by my mum's 80s apricot chicken.
Luisa Brown
16-03-2007, 09:45 PM
Just make sure you grill the pineapple on the same griddle as the meat, onions and bacon. Takes away the sweetness. Confession - I have never eaten Apricot Chicken, should I steer well away??!!:vomit:
Medusa
16-03-2007, 09:50 PM
:vomit: Apricot chicken is wrong! My mum made me eat that too. Yuck!
My boy has a thing about mixing fruit with savoury food too. I like to mix fruit into a salad sometimes but he thinks its wrong.
raspberryberet

Glad to hear I'm not the only one :vomit:
Good point about salads M, I don't mind a hint of fruit in a nice salad; maybe because all the ingredients are crisp and fresh, rather than having that intense warm fruit flavour. I recently tried a beautiful rocquette, pear, walnut and blue vein cheese combo. Also saw a Nigella Lawson special Greek salad with watermelon in it. Very interesting.
Sorry for the bump too gals! I've now completed the pizza gorging and am pondering my next move. Perhaps a glass of red.

I had a Cadbury Creme egg for afternoon tea, I can't see one of those things without having to have one, I love them!! And now halfway through my shift at work and I have eaten most of a giant packet of Twisties as well. Feel a bit icky and very thirsty, and am supposed to be on my dinner break in half an hour but I don't think I can face it...
Went for a run this morning though so it could be worse... And now I will just have to go again tomorrow!

I've just returned from a quiet but fun night out with the pardner's family...belgian beer, pomme frites and some laughs. Great chips and the beer wasn't bad either. Had a great selection, but nothing was going to convince me to try the flavoured range - included passionfruit, chocolate and nikeberry beer, whatever the hell that is (I think it's the "Just Do It" fruit)

We havent had them long in Vic. I also used to see boxes coming home on flights from Sydney! There is a drive thru one in the suburbs but now two in the city, in Collins St next to Spencer and now in Melbourne Central. There was pandemonium when the drive thru (the first) one opened with police directing traffic!
They are super yummy but couldnt eat them all the time - just wouldnt make them special would it?!

Umm sorry to break it to you, but no not the same at all!
DK is nothing like a KK donut! If you can get to Syd/Melb you need to try one - my fave are the plain glaze flavour or the choc flavour. The custard filled ones are yum too!
Dreamy Donuts in brissy are similar, not quite as big, but they do do a Lindt choc one - with lindt choc shavings all over the top - to die for!
The KK's are American - they are everywhere over there, same with the drive-thru concept...they even have drive-thru ATMs! :penguin:

We had a meal like this prepared by monks in Hong Kongs Po Lin Monestery. It has the world's largest Buddah (you climb about 250 steps to reach it!). The monks have a vegetarian cafe where you would swear you were eating meat! Very flavoursome though for a non tofu eater!

I don't understand the fuss about Krispy Kreme, I had a bite of one once and it was the most vile, artificial, plasticky tasting thing ever. And I looove fresh hot cinnamon donuts. Krispy Kreme to me was just, ugh, wrong.
I do love their stores and presentation though - I love a wide variety of ANYTHING. I also love those "cookie man" stores that you often see around a food court, they have like a million types of cookies and you pick which ones you want. I love Muffin Break too lol.

My family also loves the Spanish donuts that look like long sausages. We have a store called San Churro in Brunswick St, Fitzroy that serves them with your choice of melted white, dark or milk choc. (almost like pancakes where there is no "full signal", just "sick signal"!!)
My faves though, and seriously cant remember last time I had them are the gooey hot jam ones from the Vic Market! Just watch that hot jam, it burns!!

Thanks Medusa, very satisfying effort for our last. Stephen and I do the book stall. He has done for the last seven years. I had 5 years of spinning wheel but have thrown myself into the book stall. We raised $1800 last year, $800 up on the previous year. This year though we raised $3591.10!, almost double last year! Very poplular stall and we are lucky to have a mum that works for a publishing company so we get lots of new books!

I don't even LIKE chocolate very much, yet I've been gorging on it because it's there!! No other reason, just because it's there! I go through phases. I always have something sweet in the afternoon; I'll be really into a particular type of lolly or chocolate or fruit that I'll have each day for a while, then switch to something else. Last week it was mint patties (reminds me of mum bringing home a treat after shopping); this week it's fresh dates. So not chocolate all the time, just sugar in general. Need to start switching to healthy fruit sugars/fibre though so I avoid the arvo crash!

awww cute! I have to restrain myself, our fridge is chockers full of chocolate, but our local store still has some on the shelf for half price!!! I ate so much chocolate last Sunday night, that I had to tell myself not to eat any for the rest of the week.

Fusspot you poor darling!
As a means to wean yourself off chocolate try eating controlled quantities of dark chocolate as a replacement. Dark chocolate is low in GI, and in fact, in small quantities, it is very good for your health.
Some swiss chocolatiers produce low GI chocolate, seek out product with .5g or less carbohydrate on packet. Remember you still need to control intake. :hugs:

I sometimes crave chocolate after lunch, usually around the 3pm mark, so I keep a small tin of Ovaltine Light Break in my desk drawer. It's low in fat and it puts my cravings to rest :)

I went on a major binge this morning - so much for my low-carb eating plan!
My mum brought me KFC this morning (hmm, wonder where I developed my unhealthy eating habits?! :chuckle: ) and then I ate some disgusting oven-baked pizza shape thingies. Oh, plus I had some crumbed prawns and chocolate last night. And yoghurt.

Ohhhhhh KFC!!! If there is one takeaway I crave the most is KFC! HJ's comes a close second then Nando's. We don't have any takeaway here so we always make sure we have it when we go to Perth.

Jaime I haven't eaten anything from KFC for over 20 years.
My darling loves KFC. I have never really eaten greasy junk food as it makes me feel unwell. I had a piece of chicken and when I bit into it I ended up with was a mouthful of squishy grey internal organs that had been really well coated and cooked.
Just thinking about it now has me retching. :vomit: :vomit: :vomit:

Would have to be that long since I ate it KFC chicken Charismatic. Really bad experience and I couldnt believe the amount of grease! Also cannot eat Hungry Jacks burgers, another stomach churning experience (both were "on the road" and necessitated immediate stop!)
Do quite like the KFC chips though... sshhh!

I like the KFC sweet & sour sauce. But can't very well drive thru and just order that now can I?
I've lost my taste for junk food over the past couple of years, primarily as a result of the movie Supersize Me. Of course that was an extreme experiment...but still! Yech!
In saying that still love a good pizza; but a proper woodfired magherita pizza, with fresh tomatoes, mozzarella and basil. Does that count as junk food?

Don't really "do" junk food. Have enjoyed those McD Deli Choice rolls on occasion and I would eat pizza about once a month. As a family, we might average a takeaway meal every month? I much prefer to cook at home and Stephen cooked up a storm today. Chicken Cacciatora and Rogan Josh ready for early in the week. Tonight I cooked my famous (well, amongst family and friends!) spaghetti marinara. Even if I am late home or too tired, it takes no time to boil up some good quality egg based fettucini and add my home made pesto or an easy risotto. Wella, ready in a flash! (Just dont look at how much romano cheese I grate on top of it!)

LB, I'm the same.
Very particular about food ie; quality of produce, food handler and storage hygiene, unknown additives etc.
Although I stated my darling loves KFC he does not eat it at home.
I honestly can't remember the last take away I had. Oooops, yes I can, it was a Napolitana Pizza from our local about 5 weeks ago.
Cooking is not only a pleasure for me it is a form of therapy. I know I sound sooo boring, but this is just me!

Agree with you charismatic - I find cooking very theraputic, even after a long day. I cook to unwind. And on the weekends I unleash my inner domestic goodess with some good hard baking (followed with some good hard eating)

I generally don't like junk food much either, and I wouldn't go to a fast food joint to buy food for myself. I'd sooner go to a supermarket and pick up a few things to make something for myself. That said, I'm not strong-willed enough to resist chicken strips on a Sunday morning. I have never in my life eaten a 'piece' of KFC chicken, but I like the strips and nuggets. :)
I'm weak and pathetic, what can I say?

Luisa, when you have a chef for a hubby you don't need takeaway! I think I would much prefer well cooked home meals. You are very lucky.
As a rule I don't eat much junk either, its hard to get takeaway in a remote town! So when we go to Perth about once a month we might have it once or twice. My diet doesn't really allow for much junk - you can't get your desired body shape and eat crap too.

Was very good during the week and then came the weekend...
But in my defence, everything I ate today was absolutely delicious!
Chicken sushi for lunch, couple of bits of dark chocolate this arvo, and for dinner (out with pals) some turkish dips, soft-shell crab & bug tail salad and to finish tarte tartin with cinnamon ice cream. I will be dreaming about that tart tonight! (so I'll be dreaming about myself, ha ha)
