I have purchased quite a few of the Demeter fragrances. I don't find them very effective perfumes as the smell doesn't last long at all on my skin. However I can't resist the urge to keep buying them. Why? Because they make gorgeous room sprays. I spray them in and around my bedroom and the smell lingers on for quite a while. I only buy the sweet smelling ones as I'm not sure I could bring myself to buy one called Dirt or Laundromat. Who want's to smell like Dirt? lol.
I have also purchased the Demeter body lotions. I am not a fan at all of these. I purchased Birthday Cake, Cinnamon bun and Pink Lemonade. They all smelled exactly the same, like the plastic of the containers they came in YUK!

Yeah the fragrances are not terribly long-lasting... I think that's why they call them "pick-me-up colognes" - you're supposed to carry them with you and spray them on whenever you need a lift :)
My favourites are Laundromat (which I keep in my gym bag - nice to smell "clean" after a sweaty workout!), Leather (which makes me happy because it reminds me of new shoes), Bulgarian Rose and Dirt. Apparently Dirt is their bestseller worldwide!
I like Tigerlilly and Freesia. Oh, that reminds me I need new flowers for my bedroom... :)

I have a funny story! When I first bought Demeter's Vanilla Cake Batter I thought I hated it! However I realised that once it settles on my skin it smells positively eatible!
Last night I sprayed it on my skin and pillow before bed. I went off to sleep surrounded by this lovely vanilla aroma! I woke up during the night and found I was sitting up in bed pretending to eat something out of a bowl!:redcheeks:!!

I keep buying them too and I have no idea why. The don't last well at all. I'll have tp try them as an air freshner now and see how that works.

Kyles,
I know exactly what you mean, I keep buying them to because the names are just so enticing! I think they are really fun. Sure they aren't long lasting or even very good quality but they are just so addictive! Here is a list of the ones I currently have:
Cotton Candy
Bubble Gum
Angel Food
Creme Brulee
Sicky Toffee Pudding
Vanilla Cake Batter
Pomegranate
Birthday Cake
Cinnamon Buns
Pink Lemonade
Orange cremcicle
I just love the way they look and initially smell! I have them all laying in a little basket on my blanket box at the end of my bed. They look gorgeous and whenever I need a little pick me up I just spray a little. Funny How all the ones I have smell like FOOD:rolleyes:!!

I know! I read a review that it smelt like the damp spot near the fence that gets no sun....I'm tempted to try it though if its a bestseller to see what its like....

It's actually really lovely - the name is a bit misleading - think more about a damp garden bed, that lovely green earthy smell. Smells great on men.

I buy the foodie ones too I think I'm addicted to foodie smells

I agree it might smell ok on men. It doesn't do anything for me personally but it is Demeters best seller worldwide. It smells like mould on me but a lot of people obviously love it otherwise it wouldn't be so popular.
I got the new Christmas Limited Edition Baby Powder by Demeter on the weekend. I got it for my Maltese to wear as he is quite partial to the odd fragrance lol! It smells divine on him and compliments his Johnson & Johnson baby powder beautifully!
Well, I have been thinking about it for a while now, and I've finally taken the plunge and bought some Demeter fragrances!! After smelling the coconut one I bought for a friend I just had to try more! :glee: I bought Vanilla Butter Cake, Sticky Toffee Pudding and Creme Brulee... the names are just Soooooo enticing. I am a little too excited about receiving these!! :redcheeks:

I really really want to try Demeter but there's nowhere in North Qld that stocks the full range. :( There are so many that could be gorgeous but could also be really wrong so I'd have to sniff them first (that would probably be a full day of sniffing!!).
I'm obsessed with the smell of baby powder though (I use Johnson and Johnson products unashamedly!) so I'd love to try out that one.

Agree on the "pick me up" aspect that Kate mentioned. I've tried a few in the Demeter range and I have Wet Garden, which I like, but more as an occasional boost or a room spray. Am keen to try the other flower-based ones and also get a couple of candles.
I'm not a fan of the foodie smells on me but they smell gorgeous on other people.

These are a bit hit & miss for me. I've purchased 4 all up online and I only liked 2 of them. I really need to smell them first before I buy.
I just recieved my fragrances in the post... I have to say I am a little dissapointed... :tears: I think I got over excited when choosing the smells that I didn't think hard enough about which ones I should get. The ones I chose are nice, but I guess they're just not 'me'.

Aww that sucks VeeE :( I really hate when you're looking so forward to something and it's not as great as you'd hoped. It sucks to have spent over a hundred bucks too. Which ones did you get?
Edit: Ok I just read the ones you got in your earlier post lol. Are they too sickly sweet?
I got Sticky Toffee Pudding, Creme Brulee and Vanilla Butter Cake (which is the nicest one).
It's not all bad though, I think they'll be quite nice a room sprays, especially on bed linen. I can't bare to think that I've wasted money, so I'm just going to remain positive.

Same with me VeeE. I use mine as room sprays. Still like them, just not on my skin!

I wonder if the floral/fruity Demeter ones are more wearable? Anyone care to review the ones that they enjoy wearing?

Gin and Tonic is quite nice, I bought it for my mum and she likes it. I also bought my sister Cosmopolitan, I wasn't that keen on it myself but she loves it. I had New Zealand, but that was a mistake, it smelt so yuky I gave it to my brother because I thought it smelt more 'male'.

Honeysuckle is also very pretty.

I recently went insane on ebay and bought a whole lot of them.. I only liked ONE. Sugar Cane. I immediately swapped all the others away. I found they were unpleasantly alcohol-y for the first bit, then there was the smell (I can't really call it a fragrance) and then they disappeared. The Sugar Cane does smell like fresh sugar cane and lasts a bit longer. The florals were IMHO very harsh and more like room sprays in how flat they were. If you want cheap florals that smell fresh, lovely and natural go to L'Occitane. Demeter is not very good with them.
The foody scents may well be the better ones but after that last binge I am really sitting on my hands as far as these impulse purchases go. There is something very enticing about any line that has sooooooooo many offerings with fab descriptions, inexpensive etc.. but for myself I feel why buy 4 of these inferior products when for the same money I could buy a nice bottle of a good perfume I have really wanted.
That said if I ever came across Snow or Salt Air on ebay I would probably buy it. I also bought one of the Kahala ones because I am a sucker for Hawaii but frankly it was unwearable. I still hope to find one that I like in that range.

Just a theory - perhaps they were sub-par because they were from eBay? I know that there are a lot of imitation perfumes that get passed off for real ones on here maybe it happened with this brand? Just a thought?

I don't think anyone would bother making fakes of an already very inexpensive line. The ones that are faked are the big houses, Dior, Chanel.

Yup, just read back through the topic and it appears that everyone feels the same! Bummer.

Well there's plenty more fragrances out there! Including many etailers with vast ranges like Demeter offers.

I learned a huge lesson last year after buying a couple of bottles of "fake" fragrance under the impression that it was real! I purchased mine off the net.
Girls always buy your fragrances from an authorised retailer. Coty supply an authernticity certificate to it's retailers varifying that they are authorised to sell their line of fragrances. I alays buy my fragrances from either D.J's, Myer, The Perfume Connection, Mecca or Adore.
Beware of markets the internet and if a fragrance seems too cheap to be real remember that it most likely is! I would hate for any of you darlings to spray yourself with a perfume containing goats urine.

No not kidding Jaime,
There was a big customs bust last year of fake imported perfume and when they sent the fragrances for analysis in a scientific laboratory it was revealed that Goats Urine was in the bottles (something about the colouring perhaps)! So beware!!

It really depends on what you are buying. If you are buying niche or much older items such as Balmains you won't be getting fakes. As I recall the most faked fragrances are Chanel and Hugo Boss.
I've been buying and selling fragrances on ebay for years now and I've never had a bad experience. But then I wouldn't buy a Chanel off ebay in a million years (well I did buy a vintage Gardenia once but I know it was the real thing). Often if it's being sold by an individual they may not even know it's a fake, perhaps they were given it for their birthday.
Another great place to get fragrances is *************, great deals there.
