I just saw a fantastic local band called Retail Fireworks (off shoot band of another fantastic band called Laura) and my friend who is Three Month Sunset and The Morning After Girls...
All three in the past week and I am incredibly inspired!
You can check them all out on myspace. Well worth a listen!
I am hoping to see The Pixies when they come too!

We used to go see bands 3 nights a week before we had kids. We loved it.
It wasn't all that long ago but something seems to have changed - it is now so expensive like $70-$120 a ticket where we used to pay at the very most $35, usually $15.
The nights are all askew too. Since when is it the norm to play gigs on a school night? Sure maybe Thurs/Fri but Mon/Tues??? Who does that?

three month sunset with morning after girls was $16, retail fireworks was $6 the other gig I saw with three month sunset and guests was by donation to cumbersome records who were putting on the gig.
Places like Bar Open and The Spanish Club, Pony and East Brunswick Club have awesome bands if you know who you like and are really affordable!
I find checking out the gig guide in inpress and then looking up some of the music on myspace is one way to work out who you like..
I am getting to know some great Melbourne bands and then I just trail along to a lot of their gigs because they are always great!
International Karate are also a great Local band (I may be doing some recording with them)
I can keep you posted of the good stuff!

My hubby likes Laura. He has their first album. Just told him about the off shoot band, he knew about it and said they were playing soon - think he missed it by the sounds of things! He is pretty with it for an almost 47 year old!

PS Just told him about International Karate, got quite excited as he didnt think they were still around. Says that they are one of his fave Aussie bands. Good on you Allison, keep us posted. We are within easy walking distance of the East Brunswick Club, should try to get there.

They sound fab! You're so lucky that Melbs has a thriving music scene...Canberra is, shall we say, rather lacking in that department! Used to have a great place called The Gypsy Bar, which got some great Aussie bands but alas, no more.
Pardner is a HUGE Pixies fan, he's hoping to see them too.
My fave gigs in the last few years were Muse, Stephen Malkmus of Pavement and Gomez. Loved Dandy Warhols a few years ago too. Biggest 'regret' gig is not seeing Radiohead at its peak. Apparently the Oz concerts were amazing.

Louisa your boy has great taste in music.
International Karate are playing with my band on the 18th may at the Spanish Club. They are releasing a new albumn now.
You must check out three month sunset (stunning ambient music) and if you like the Dandys you have to check out the Morning After Girls...
The Panics often play around the traps (friends from Perth) Jae from the Panics is playing an acoustic set tonight at the Spanish Club.
will keep you posted as I find more music treats for you all...

Ignore some of the bad photos- I didn't put them up there!
You must also listen to some Lux et Nox (you can hear them on myspace) they are a side project of one of the band members of The Temper Trap.

Saw The Killers on Fri night in Brisbane... and it was awesome!
This is a big call, as I've been to many gigs, but this may be the best I've been to so far!! :glee::glee::glee:
Brandon is such a performer. So talented, and not bad on the eyes either...
They played over 1.5hrs, came out for 2 encores, plus had not 1 but 2 support bands.
They also brought a touch of Vegas with them... at the start of the show, they realeased from the ceiling a shower of tinsel... 3 times too! It was amazing... gave a really good vibe to the start of the concert!

Saw Zavier Rudd play The Enmore last week. Talk about a talented muscian this guy can play! Not just play but can play several instruments at the same time and sing. He had all these instruments set up around him - 3 Didgeridoos, harmonicas, several gutairs, drums, percussion etc & he nailed them all. There was only one ther muscian on stage (at times) a drummer. Xavier played everything else, sometimes 3 instruments at the same time! :worship:
The act before him was Canadian Jeremy Fisher, very good also.

Woooo.. what a night... I went to the Amon Amarth concert and had such a great night! :D Shared a delicious pizza with my friend and a beer and then went to the pub for another beer. Was so great catching up etc. Then we went over to the Enmore and it was packed with a sea of people in black, and so much hair hehehe. I even saw loads of guys wearing viking horns! http://www.emulatorworld.com/forums/images/smilies/icon_viking.gif
Anyhow, the guys were awesome, and Johan fulfilled all my viking fantasies, he was such a big hairy beefy hulk of a man. They were so loud, I was deaf for awhile after. So worth it though. He called us "crazy Aussie vikings". :D Yay, great night.

NYE at the arthouse was awesomeness!!!!
All the bands were sick!! So hot but so fun.
Tomorrow I'm going to go see Pierced Arrows. They are playing at the tote. Apparently it's the guitarist from one of the punk bands I saw at the arthouse NYE but he's in some rock band. And of course the awesome Bakelite Age will be playing. So yeah, should be awesoness.
Thursday I'm helping run a gig down my way. It's a hardcore show and we usualy get alot of kids who show up. So should be a good night. I'm usually the oldest person there though besides the bands!!
Friday there is a whearhosue gig, which I think will be packed because there is an international band playing, but meh, see what happens.
Saturday I'm going to Bar Open in Brunswick.
Good weekend

So no more camping out.
The gig was held in a warehouse. Pretty good venue but friday was canceled so I only went the Saturday night because all the good bands were playing then and Sunday was pretty crappy.
So, so much for a festival. It was pretty much just a gig. Or well. me and my bf made mad money selling band patches!!! We made like $170 then just spent it on records from a guy who had his distro at the gig :chuckle:
