Finished off a massive bottle of Aesop A Rose By Any Other Name shower gel this morning.

I feel so virtuous when I actually use something up :) maybe because it doesn't happen all that often...

I have just finished my Pantene Pro-V brunette shampoo and conditioner. I am hopeless I get so excited about new products I don't finish the ones I have. I've made a point to go through my cupboard and start using down all the half finished bottles - I'm nearly there and I'm so proud of myself! :D

haha - I'm very much the same, I notice my portion sizes of whatever I am trying to get rid of become rather generous...

At the moment I'm trying to get rid of my dodgy, generic brand shampoo to try out the Lemon (or is it Lemongrass?) one from Alchemy. I've never really had very high standards with haircare but recently I've found some beautiful smelling, natural things and am really keen to try them out!

What is Alchemy like? I've been looking at the products on Adore and they all look very appealing! Nicely priced too...

I'm not actually sure yet as it will be my first time that I will have tried it! But I promise to get back to you and give you a review of what the shampoo is like.

I haven't tried to Alchemy shampoo and conditioner, but would really like too. A lady come into the store the other day to repurchase some, and she had the most gorgeous hair!

I use the MOP lemongrass shampoo and conditioner. I have fine hair, so it's perfect. Not an over powering smell and light enough so it doesn't weigh down my hair, but won't leave it too fluffy either.

I like both the Alchemy and MOP ranges. Favourites in Alchemy are the the Mandarin shampoo (for all hair types), the Avocado and Calendula cond, the Macadamia and Wheat cond (the absolute best I have used), the Intensive Hair Mask (used as a conditioner) and the Leave in conditioner. Not fond of the body washes. MOP faves include the Pear shampoo (made for kids but smells fab), Glisten conditioner (only need a tiny amount) and the Lemongrass shampoo (good for everyone and finer hair). Not a fan of the C-System Texturiser (even on my fine hair it weighed it down too much).

Back to the thread - finished my Clarins Tinted Moisturiser (Gold) today, have another of this staple in the cupboard - after all, have been using this for around 15 years!:)

I finished using my Alchemy Jojoba Conditioner today, still have some Alchemy Mandarin shampoo but that will have to go back on the shelf until I buy another Alchemy conditioner. I'm one of these people that has to have the matching brands of shampoo and conditioner! I couldn't posssibly use two different brands!!! I like the Alchemy hair products (especially the vitamin mask) and they leave my hair soft and smelling great.:)

Beautyaddict,
The Dr Hauschka cleansing cream is brilliant. Firstly it is not at all as the name might suggest. It is completely natural so the colour is a brown (bird poo) type colour and it contains fine particals (good for a very light exfoliation or slight polish). The product smells a bit yeasty! However don't let this put you off! After use your skin will feel AMAZING!! I am not sure what this stuff actually does but it leaves the skin feeling great. Kate is a HUGE fan of Dr Hauschka cleansing cream! I would suggest it is not ideal to remove makeup with and it can be a tad messy. It often requires use of a face cloth to remove excess. So putting all the pros and cons aside this product is a little miracle worker. It is now a staple in my beauty supplies!

Kate (Staff)
17-01-2007, 05:58 PM
Dr.H Cleansing Cream is the bomb!! Yes it does look and smell a bit weird (a bit yeasty, as others have described... but in a wholesome sort of way), but it makes your skin baby-soft and smooth. Great for open pores, little blackheads, and generally gives things a glow. I use it every day in the shower; it's not suitable for taking off makeup and it's easier to get off when you can just put your face under the shower head.

BA,
I bought the Aplha-H Liquid Gold a couple of months ago. I use it occasionally as my skin is a little sensitive to it if used daily. Remember to ask Luisa, Kate or Allison before you start adding active ingredients into your skincare routine (particularly if your skin gets upset). The reason I say this is because I got very over excited when I purchased a heap of active ingredients and I managed to overdose my skin on alpha hydroxy acids:redcheeks:!! My skin went ferral. I am now the resident warning nazi. I really do suggest that you discuss it with one of our beauty gurus before you introduce any active skincare.

Used sparingly my skin loves the Alpha-H Liquid Gold! I am thinking or buying the white gold next!

Luisa Brown
17-01-2007, 06:09 PM
Despite my whinges that the Alpha H company have changed the formula, Liquid Gold is still a fabulours, effective product with almost immediate results. It is something to add to your skin care routine. Applied after evening cleansing on a cotton pad you can either leave it at that (sometimes not enough for some drier skin types) or after a few minutes, apply your usual night treatment.

Remember that although most skins will not experience photo sensitivitiy with this strength of AHA, why would you want to undo your good work - make sure you use a sunscreen. If your cotton pad is still moist you could (gently and trial it first) pat just under eye area (dont do this upfront when the pad is very moist) and dont forget the backs of your hands.

I am keen to try either the White Gold or the Ultraceuticals Even tone to correct some pigmentation. Has anyone tried White Gold? Have only heard good things about the Even tones and the formulation is impressive.

I just gave away 4 big (500ml) bottles of body lotion too. I got them cheap in Target but they are just blah and were taking up valuable space in the cupboard. They smelt too girly for the boy to use but the girl I gave them too was estatic & loves them. That alone was worth the gift.

on the lip balm: it is very light so it is great for day under makeup. out of lip balms i have used recently most similar to aesop i think because they're both natural oil based (though tromborg's has a finer texture) but it has gone very solid in the little tin in my freezing cold weather! the thing that has suprised me most is that, it deals with the dry bits of skin i can get in a line on the inside edge of my lips after using beeswax based balms :clapping: hmmm.. does that make sense...?!

I would not repurchase the JF one. Worked no wonders but I am yet to find one that does. Trying out the Goldwell one today. It is supposed to be a straightener & heat protectant in one. It is a slim pump pack containing a white cream.
I have blow dried this morning & it's looking good if a little frizzy at the ends but my hair always does that because of my long layers. I am going to run the straightener thru it later before I go out. I like to let the hair relax in between. I'll let you know.

Don't feel silly. When I find something I love, I always buy in multiples! Especially clothes :redcheeks:

Really? I don't think I could do that. Infact it takes me a good while after I have brought an item of clothing to realise I love it. Unfortunately this happened to me with a pair of jeans and now the shop I brought them from have long gone got rid of those jeans. :tears:
Or well, the search continues.

Luisa Brown

Yep, guilty of doing it with beauty products but do believe if you find an item of clothing that fits/suits really well, it makes sense to get multiples, perhaps not in the same colour. I went shopping for black knee high boots just before last winter. I loved the ones I chose so much that I ended up buying them in chocolate too. They have been a great investment and being in Melbourne have worn each of them a heap of times!

I have a friend who gets slight breakouts on her upper arms (not KP, they are actual pimples, although small) and she's completely into the natural stuff (won't use most of the stuff I try to recommend), so I might see if she wants to give AOBS a whirl. The exfoliation looks like it might be a bit much for everyday use on the face (actually I hate the idea of scratchy ground almonds going anywhere near my face!) but I think it would suit her arms quite nicely.

Edit: EEEEEK every time I go to the Lush website I never escape without a huge wishlist!

Oh it's lovley Luisa. It is the number one cleanser for making my skin feel so soft. I honestly can't believe it. It's one of Lush's best sellers. It's a fantastic product. It's a shame it's not suited for you. Although, I would have thought it would have a been a product to suit everyone. Or well.

Oz I don't find the almond scratchy at all. Infact the only thing I don't like about AOBS is that it is such a heavy cleanser it sometimes leaves residue from all the oils in it. So sometimes I have to use a toner after it. never find it scratchy though.

Don't have time and have never liked that "just moisturised" feel. It is actually the massage action (which you can do with dry body brushing) not the moisturiser that has kept your cellulite at bay - lucky girl!

Yay we can have girls weekends! I'm going to be counting on you girls for support. I have a few good friends in Melbourne but most of my friends are here in Tassie. My partner works extremely long hours so I will be by myself quite a bit.

EEEEE that's exciting, you me and Loola will all become firm friends in no time. Oh and of course Luisa, but she has a family to worry about!!!!

That would be lovely. Yes i am coming to be with the boy. We are going to build a house so I want to be there to totally oversee everything! You could never and I mean NEVER trust my boy to oversee anything as blokey as construction. He would let the builders get away with murder!

How lovley PCC, do you know where abouts in Melbs you want to build?

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Those are those places that always have those ads!!! Like Delphin!
And everyone is all real excited on the ads with couples (cos they can't advertise single parents cos that's not a good happy life!) saying "it's a lovely place to be, and we know everyone in the community" and blah blah blah. And you just know they have no idea who their neighbors are :chuckle::chuckle:

I will be trudging over to your place frequently Miss Fendi and perhaps I can get a new shopping buddy in Laura. Laura can be Billy's play mate as I think I am going to bring him with me! Muffin might be Mum and Dad's baby I think as Billy just hasn't adjusted to having a sibling! Laura can dress him up in his outfits:chuckle::chuckle:

Hahahahaha, I know exactly what you mean about those ads, Trash. And they always have a lovely big Labrador who leaps around chasing a stick enjoying the enormous turfed park, by the massive lake, where an old couple drive past in a golf buggy after completely the 18th hole. Then again, after such ads, I'm always like, I want to live there!!

My brother who is allergic to everything on the planet uses Jurlique moisturiser. He got onto it after using mine about 10 years ago. I have moved on, he won't. He hates the idea of having to use a moisturiser but his face is so scaly (from allergies) if he doesn't. His face always looks good.

Natio Spa Luminous Body Lotion :hearts:
I love this stuff. It is one of those great cheapies. It is a lightly moisturising body lotion with a subtle sheen. No glitter or sparkles it just leaves your skin with a glow. Kinda like MAC's Strobe Cream I guess? I wear it all the time in summer on my arms and decolletage. It has lasted me ages too. Naturally I have another tube ready & waiting in the cupboard.

Hard to describe but only smells on application then disapates. The tube says Lavender and lemon but I hate Lavender, it is really subtle. Not a strong scent so won't interfere with your perfume.

I have the liquid one Medusa and I love it! It is very pigmented with a slight sparkle. I use those disposable latex gloves when I put it on as it takes ages to remove from your hands but it is easier to use than a spray.

hi fusspot,

i have only really used sugar and salt scrubs so i don't have much to compare it to - and in fact i think until this one mostly by MOR which are around the same $ but bigger tubs from memory - pomegranate, a few tubs of the honey and ? one, milk and i think one of the de luxe ones

the apivita one has smaller grains, so they dissolve a little faster than the MOR ones, so i used it with exfoliating gloves. however, this meant it is less harsh (i could even use gently a couple days after a disagreement with a climbing rose from helping with a garden clean up). it seems to have some effect on KP - though not eliminate it. It does help remove dead skin leaving skin soft and smooth without the oily feeling like the MOR ones which left my shower floor a little slippery!

i also like the scent of the apivita one - the green tea comes through more in the salt scrub than in the body milk (which smell just like those arnotts biscuits, i can't think of the name, small rectangle ones with white cream filling)

i would definitely repurchase an apivita one because i enjoyed using it - i am thinking of trying the energy one next

i checked out the new-ish MOR range today and noticed that the body scrubs look totally different to the old ones - as well as salt, it looks like they have seeds from some fruit to help exfoliate (it actually looked like dragon fruit when you opened the tub!). plus it comes in a giant tub. will have to get me some i think...

Rosie - you will have to improvise in the meantime.
Bicarb soda to soften the water. Essential oils for smell. Body oil for moisturising - almond/sunflower oil. Epsom salts.

Here is a recipe for a DIY body scrub.
1 cup sea salt
20 drops essential oil
1/2 cup almond or veg oil
Pour into a jar & shake well.

Try to restrict yourself to one thing until its finished then move onto the next. You will get more satisfaction out of finishing them that way & feel better about replacements.
