How often do you have facials? What type of facial is the best that you have ever had?
*Milo*

typically, I have a facial about 3 times a year, but lately I've accelerated it to once a month as I've had hormonal acne/scarring(it sucks  ) I've always gotten the Signature Facial of most places, or a Deep Cleanse, but the signature usually involves face massage which I love and I figure if you're going to be attacked by a blackhead remover you may as well finish with a nice massage to make up for it :D . I was wondering if anybody had tried any of the big chain places around that I hadn't, like Ella Bache, Pure Indulgence (although this may just be a Queensland one), Estee Lauder or Clarins. Or maybe what are the best products to have a facial with? Mine were Ultraceuticals and Pier Auge.
I have a facial once a month. I started this about a year ago and I have never looked back. I always have a Deep cleanse as I have backheads and can be prone to breakouts (when I'm stressed or lazy and don't stick to my usual skincare routine) :o
Oh, forgot to add that they use the Dermologica products for my facials. I like them...

As mentioned in another thread, I dont go much for facials as I tend to to a better job with better products but I would definitely recommend and Oxygen Facial to anyone. Had one done at what would best be described at a medical clinic. It was pricey but so worth it! Skin looked fantastic for days and afterwards (while I was waiting for a friend to appear from hers) I lounged around in a private room with pure oxygen pumping up my nose! Heaven!!:)

I've had a few but Beauty Thearapists have always told me that good skincare @ home is what makes the difference. Still I usually get them to check my skin while I have my eyelash tint on to keep up to speed. Its good to get different opinions on what's best for my skin and a handful of sample products. I always prefer to try before I buy. I hate waste.

I've had an Ella Bache Facial, i can't remember the name but it was very hydrating. I wasn't happy at all it didn't suit my skin and there products smell to natural if you know what i mean. eg. grass
I've had another one at a different place but i don't even remember the brand they use. It was good though.
This is a great thread because i'm searching for a facial to give my BFF before her wedding.

I'd get her a massage or manicure/pedicure instead. Unless you have had the particular facial before, you just don't know how your skin is going to react. The last thing you want before your wedding is a breakout. I had my lip waxed a week before my wedding and reacted badly (never does that when I do it myself?).

I have heard similar things about Ella Bache. My Beauty Therapist used to own an Ella Bache salon but she hated their products so much she sold it and opened a new one stocking Dermalogica, Ultraceuticals and Thalgo. I personally have never used any Ella Bache products so I can't really comment.
I would also tend to avoid a facial for your friend if she doesn't normally have one. Unless you gave it to her a month or so before the wedding. Having said that a good beauty therapist would be we aware of the possible risks of breakout etc and be best able to advise you.

I've had a few Ella Bache facials - always given as gifts. They're nice and relaxing but I have never thought they did a great deal for my skin. I also had a Jurlique one which was nice (my friend worked for them and was nervous about starting facials so I let her practice on me!!). It was nice. I think I expect too much though from facials etc - I always leave feeling a litlle disappointed and don't bother with them on a usual basis

Ive had a few facials (when I have extra cash to splash around) and must say most of them were really not worth it, especially ones from Ella Bache. Not only did the products irritate my skin and left me oily with huge inflammmed welts all over my face the beauty therapist almost waxed off all my eyebrows leaving only a few sparse hairs. Now on I do everything from home with professional products from murad, natura bisse and biomedic which you can get from selected online shops and ebay stores which works out waaaaaaay cheaper than going to a salon, plus its more time saving if you are too busy. As for my eyebrows I taught myself to wax them (got myself one of those waxcellence heater & wax) and I dont trust any beauty therapist to do them incase I end up bald again.

Oh, and as for face facials, I :hearts: them, on the odd occassion I have one at the salon. Mostly I do 'em at home, but nothing beats the sheer luxury of going to the salon for some spoiling!

I seriously had the best facial of my life in London. I went to the Eve Lom Salon in London and had an out of this world two and a half hour facial.
The first hour involved cleansing and a seriously long lymphatic drainage massage. Next was exfoliations and a steam session. This was followed with Iced Muslin Cloths being alternated with warm ones and then a mask. The mask was left on for half an hour and then I had an extra long head, neck and shoulder massage.
Best still when I left I was given two full sized products and a bag of samples. It was expensive but oh so worth it!
Thanks for putting me on to this brand Luisa, I otherwise wouldn't have known what it was.:kissing:

I didn't fall asleep because I was too revved up about going shopping afterwards and I was getting the Eve Lom Beauty therapist to tell me where to shop. I also love listening to people with Brittish accents. I didn't sleep a lot at all whilst I was away I way too excited to sleep! Perhaps that is why I am so tired now!!

I had an absolutely beautiful facial on Norfolk Island (my parents live there), using Thalgo and Ultraceuticals products. Probably the best of both worlds -- UC to give you the really great results, and Thalgo to give the heavenly textures and scents! Thalgo products are gorgeous -- I remember the mask she used smelt of Cointreau (yum!). She used SO many different products, including a steam treatment and upper body massage... just devine!
This facial was what made me decide to get serious about my skin care -- so it is highly recommended if you ever visit Norfolk Island! I went to Expressions Day Spa.
Haven't had too many other facials but they have definitely not been as good. I had a Jurlique facial that included lash tinting, but she didn't wash my eyes properly and they were stinging and streaming when I came out!
Mostly these days I just give myself a weekly 'mini-facial' as part of Sunday Night Ritual :)

I live in Ireland so can't really tell you anywhere nice in Oz but i have had microdermabrasion done a couple of times and its brilliant for clearing clogged pores and congestion .......living in Oz i'd imagine you'd have to wear sunscreen especially for the next few days but i didn't find it irritaing or stripping but then i don't have sensitive skin......personally if i go for a facial i don't just want someone to massage products on my face i wan't them to do extractions and a good exfoliation but again it depends on your skin.....dermalogica is a pretty good range and they tend to do extractions but it can be hard to find a beauty therapist that you really like and trust so you might need to shop around?
Good luck

Trash, one thing to consider is that counters like Estee Lauder and Elizabeth Arden often have treatment rooms where they perform facials, and the best part is that they are usually redeemable on products!! So if you ever want to buy a product or two from these ranges, check out if they have a treatment room!

Rosie you might!! We don't have a dept store here, I get it done at the local Terry White Chemist, which has a few counters there (just the basics - EL, Clinique, EA, Dior, Chanel etc) and they have a treatment room in the back. You'd NEVER know it was there, it's never advertised or anything. I only know because the Elizabeth Arden girl told me.

Are you a person who likes being touched?? See I'm not the hugest fan of having a random's hands all over me, so I don't find a massage pleasurable so much as painful and uncomfortable. Facials on the other hand are great!! Minimal touching, and you can get your blackheads (if you have any) extracted and have your skin all hydrated and gorgeous!!
The only thing is that you can't go shopping afterwards. :( Unless you want to be makeup-less and a bit shiny and red.

Me either emmy! I do at home ones every week though. I keep saying to myself I should book myself in for a professional one but I never get around it. Any recs for salons or counters in Sydney girls??
Yeah I occassionally do at home ones myself - buy a cheapy face mask from Priceline, but to be honest, I don't see any change in my skin, so I don't bother anymore. I would go to a professional one if I had the money/could justify spending the money, but I'd only go as a relaxation/treat thing, not to benefit my skin.

I have had clarins and a dermalogica facials in the past. Clarins masks felt like they were clogging my pores, and were not properly removed - felt like it was so heavy on my skin and I came home and removed the moisturiser straight away!... dermalogica - the smell I totally didnt like, it smells weird, I cant quite describe it! - I thought the cleanser wasn't properly removed either!
I prefer my daily routine cleansing, toning and moisturising. maintains healthy skin. simple. I like making home made masks or I would like to buy a dr hauschka mask to treat myself now and again!

I've only had microdermabasion and an Elle Bache facial. The Elle Bache one didn't really do anything for me, and the first thing the therapist said to me was how bad my dark circles were and then tried to sell me a cream (I really, really don't believe a cream will fix it - combination of olive skin, heredity, hormones, tiredness etc).
Microdermabrasion is great, you will really see results if you have large pores and are prone to blackheads and breakouts. But you need to get it fairly regularly still

I try to have a facial once a month. Although I think I am going to change Beauty Therapists because she told me I was wasting my money having facials when I do them myself at home and have all the products she uses anyway. She even sold me some Dermalogica salon exclusives so I was a bit disheartened. When I move to Melbourne I am going to get Lady Allison to do my monthly facials.
