What is your favourite sweet treat? I have so many as I am quite a sweet tooth but at the moment I am craving home made turkish delight ice cream with fairy floss shavings! Wouldn't have a clue how to make it but I have it at this little cafe in Hobart sometimes and it is to die for!

Im addicted to lollipops right now ! Anytype, it doesnt matter ! :chuckle:
I go through phases of what I like. Last week it was hot chocolate !

No one is going to believe me but I am not really a choc person. Only crave it when I am menstual otherwise give me a sugary lolly anytime! (Same goes for choc cake - how can you guys eat it? I get stomach pains thinking about how rich it is!)
Oh dear, where do I start? Ok, love Whiz Fizz (except the part where I get it all over myself!), lolly bananas, choc eclair lollies, red bullets, turkish delight, fairy floss (have some fancy Persian Floss in Pistachio in the cupboard!), Pez lollies (no I dont carry a character dispenser!), Menthos and anything sour!

Am I only allowed to name one??? Argh, I can't do it. I have a terrible, terrible sweet tooth. Makes a lot of money for my dentist. I'll do a top five even though it hurts me (to the cavity ha ha):
Lindt 70% dark chocolate.
Butterfinger candy bars. I got hooked on them in the US.
The humble bag of mixed lollies. Back in my day it only cost 30 cents...
Sara Lee Strawberries & Cream ice cream.
Pancakes, pancakes and more pancakes. Yum!
In the fruit department it's mangos and figs, especially figs.

PCC after reading about your turkish delight ice cream with fairy floss shavings I am now craving to try it ! LOL :chuckle:
Luisa, I to also love sour things. You can get these little tins of sour cranberry lollies from some supermarkets that are just fantastic. Yum !
All this talk of sweet things is making my mouth water ! :glee:

I am a lolly fan rather than a choccy fan but I do like choccy. I think I am craving all these sweet things because I am living on healthy food at the moment so I am undoubtedly detoxing (thanks doctors). I wonder how long I can last without cheating!

Hey RBB, the mixed lollies cost a lot less in my younger years!
Where do you get butterfingers? I was thinking of you the other day when I read that Reece now has their Peanut Butter cups in a sugar free variety (didnt say anything about fat free though!

The lolly bananas in the mixed lollies are my favourites too. Just love that synthetic taste!
You can get Butterfingers from some chocolate speciality shops. Funny how you remembered my Reece's compulsion. It's the mix of salty and sweet, gets me every time. A sugar-free variety, huh? That's no fun - more sugar I say!

PCC they're milk chocolate cups with a sweet/salty peanut butter filling. You can get them in most supermarkets, and they come in packs of two or in a larger pack of little Reece's Pieces. I say as soon as you come off the detox, make them your first sugar of choice!

Theres a great lolly shop in the The Rocks in Sydney called Sticky. They make all the lollies on premises in front of you. They have great flavours like Toffee Apple and Pink Lemonade. There has to be at least 100 + flavours. They even make personalised lollies too. The lollies are the old fashioned hard boiled kind.

Sounds great Elizabeth! Must put it on the list for the next time I visit Sydney. There are lots of good little shops in The Rocks to re-discover, I reckon.
When we were in the US last year we visited Savannah, Georgia - it was sweet-shop heaven. The city's famous treat is the praline - not the crushed caramel kind; a fudgey, creamy pecan-loaded treat. They make them fresh while you watch. The smell nearly drives you insane. And they're chock-full of goodness. Bascially cream, sugar and pecans - all the food groups! :clapping:
I have to stop reading this thread - it's making me put on virtual kilos!

The personalised ones are apparently popular with weddings. You can get them to say JOHN LUVS JANE, or anything really. Good Valentines Day pressy to I think !
The company I work for gets personalised mints done there with the company logo and name.

They have something similar in Perth its called Roc Candy, and you can get the words inside it - they make it right in front of you. We went to a wedding once and the bride and groom had their names inside them.
I'm a big ice cream lover, don't get into the lollies and choccie too much unless its that time of the month. My health kick is teaching me to resist and therefore I don't crave! (unless its ice cream)

Chocolate and more chocolate!! Looove chocolate. Do not really care much for cakes and lollies.
I Love Haighs Truffles. They have this nice shop in the Block Arcade here in Melbourne.
Yesterday I bought some yummy cherry liqueur choc from Aldi. It is a brandy cherry filling in dark choc.:p
But I usually only have it after dinner. Thats my dessert.

I could scoff a whole box of Ferraro Rochers :p
I love chocolate esp. dark choc.
I love Pez too but I can never eat just one, end up pouring the whole packe into mouth! Gave up on the dispensers, too tricky.
Also love those tiny pink musks from Darrell Lea, but again I can't help but to eat them by the handfuls. :redcheeks:
LB if you love sherbet, try making it yourself. I just made some for a party to sprinkle over fruit. Its too easy.
2 Tablespoons Icing Sugar
1/4 teaspoon Citric Acid
1/4 teaspoon Bicarb soda
1 teaspoon jelly crystals.
Sift it all together, mix.
Make sure everything is very dry any moisture will start the chemical reaction & fizz.
I am the BIGGEST lolly addict! I love redskins and wizz fizz! I also REALLY love Cadbury Creme Eggs, I crave them all year round and then easter comes...

Ohh I love Suga in Melb and Sticky in Syd! We don't have any shops like that up here in Bris, so my girlfriend in Melb sends me Suga occasionally, or I stock up when I'm down visiting!:p
Am a HUGE Maltesers fan.
When we have the 'sugar run' here at work, I'm a fan of
Crunchie Freddos
Clinkers
Allens Red Frogs (have to be red!)
Cobbers - the newsagent sells them for 5c each which is great, like the old candy shops!
I made a fabu Custard Cake yesterday - custard in the middle and custard flavoured cake! Yum! Might have to finish it off tonight.. :ashamed:
OHH and peppermint frogs from Haigh's - Melbourne again!
My list really could go on and on.. thank goodness it's raining so I'll have to make do with a cuppa this afternoon!

Gingerbread
2 cups plain flour
2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup caster sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup golden syrup
125g butter, melted
3/4 cup boiling water
2 tablespoons grated fresh ginger
Preheat over 180 degrees
Sift flour, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon into a bowl.
Stir in the sugar.
Whisk eggs, golden syrup, butter together in a separate bowl.
Add wet ingrediants to the dry ingrediants.
Mix in the water & fresh ginger.
Pour into baking paper lined cake tin or muffin tray lined with papers.
Bake for 20min or until deep golden & cooked thru.
Just try to resist eating them straight from the oven! :p
If you add more syrup they will be more moist. You can also amp up the spice. If you like you could add chopped dates or banana for an extra dimension.

I love tiramisu and gelato! - the Italians really do get dessert right.
Have always wanted to try those Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, they sound so good :) I got a recipe book for Christmas full of disgustingly naughty desserts and one of them is Peanut Butter Ice Cream Pie with a Fudgey Marshmallow Sauce and I've been dying to try it for ages!! Sounds so good.
I've only been to Melbourne once (but gosh I loved it, it's got to be the most beautiful city in Australia with all it's gorgeous alleys and old buildings) but I did go to Haigh's Chocalatiers and just stood with my mouth open at all the beautifully made chocolates around me. I'd love to go back if only just to go to that shop again...
Also love the old favourites like a really yummy pecan pie or a bee sting with a steaming cup of coffee or hot chocolate. Reminds me of Nanna :)

Custard Cake Recipe
4 tbsp butter or marj
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup SR Flour
1/4 cup custard powder
Custard
1 tbsp custard powder
1 tbsp sugar
2/3 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp butter or marj
Method
Make custard - set aside to cool slightly. Note - you could also just make the custard as per the instructions on the pack for a thick custard.
Cream butter & sugar together til light and fluffy. Beat in egg. Fold through sifted flour and custard powder.
Pour half the cake mixture into a greased/lined cake tin. Spread cooled custard over the top, then pour remaining cake mixture over the custard. Bake in a moderate over for 30mins or until cooked.
Best eaten same day.
Note - I've doubled the cake/custard quantities at times to make a larger cake - but I'm a glutz!

Cold Rock sounds like a shop in Melbourne's HIghpoint shopping centre. The Streets people have the Streets shop, placed conveniently right next to the cinemas! They have the most amazing combos that you can have melded into your icecream, including fudge! I like their sorbet ones with Calypo sorbet and a raspberry coulis. Hoyts people not happy though, recent appearance of a sign saying that only Hoyts candy bar items allowed into the cinema! Bah!
Also love Adore's sweet M&M treats, so thoughtful!

Sorry to drag up the old thread but the forum is very slow today and this thread is soooo yummy.
My sweet tooth probably betrays a lot of my psychological secrets - I'm a kid at heart!! I love the kind of food you'd have at a 7-year-old's birthday party - cupcakes (almost my favourite thing), mixed lollies, smarties, fairy floss - anything colourful and fun!! Sometimes I feel so immature because when I have people over I'll make an antipasto platter with the usual sundried tomatoes, dolmades, pate etc - but all I really want is Allens Strawberries & Cream lollies!
I also have a major weakness for what I generally call "afternoon tea food", in fact if I had to have a last meal it might be high tea!! I adore anything baked - scones, slices, brownies, biscuits. I love things to be beautifully presented too, I'm a real sucker for a gorgeous cupcake with iced flowers on top, or a beautiful black forest cake with cherries around the edges! Oh, and I love "mini" anything - cupcakes (again with the cupcakes?!), petit-fours, mini pavlovas, mini quiches (not sweet, but still yummy), all arranged on a gorgeous dainty little plate! Heaven!

I've also 'catered' a few afternoon teas for brides-to-be who didn't want the whole hens night cliche. My specialities are friands and lemon tarts - have to admit though there are usually a few missing before people arrive...cook's perogative!

RBB I threw a baby shower and a bridal shower earlier this year, both afternoon teas, and they were so much fun to prepare for! I loved making the little sandwiches and setting up the table with white flowers and gorgeous plates - and the whole events were enjoyable too!

Okie doke, here's the recipe for Tim Tam Truffles from page 186 of May New Woman mag (with Naomi Watts on the cover). It should probably be in the recipe thread but oh well. There are also recipes for Choc Mousse Tarts (featuring tim-tams) and Tim Tam Sponge!
Finely crush one packet of tim tams.
Mix well with 250g cream cheese until smooth.
Refrigerate until firm.
Remove from fridge and shape into golf-sized balls.
Insert a skewer into each ball and dip into a bowl of melted milk chocolate.
Rest skewer in a glass to set.
Drizzle dark chocolate over truffles to decorate.

Think I tossed out the mag with the Tim Tam recipes! Can you be bothered to write thie truffle one down Celestefay?:)
Of course! It is easy as pie:
1 packet Tim Tams
1 tub Philapdelphia Cream Xheese (I used light - have to save fat where we can!!)
1 block milk chocolate/ choc melts (I used about 3/4 block)
Small amount of dark.white chocolate
Smash up Tim Tams and mix together with Philly Cheese to make a mixture.
Roll into golf-sized balls
Melt milk chocolate and coat truffles (this is where it gets tricky - the recipe said to stick skewers in the truffles, dip in chocolate and sit skewers in a glass to set. I found this didn't work (and the choc dripper everywhere) so I just rolled the truffles in the chocolate and sat them on a plate. Some stuck a bit but they still looked good and tasted better!)
Melt white/dark choc and drizzle over truffles.
Put in fridge to set
Hope this makes sense!!

Sorry to drag up the old thread but the forum is very slow today and this thread is soooo yummy.
Heaven!
I LOVE High Tea. Instead of going out to a bar or something along that vein for my 18th, all I wanted to do was to go out with my friends and have high tea!! (I think I was born in the wrong era).
If you've ever in Brisbane, we have the most amazing high tea places. Joseph Alexander's on Coronation Drive do a fabulous one, High Socie-tea in Eagle Junction is awesome, so is Queenies (can't remember where it is), and there's another one somewhere in the valley. I collect teacups and pots from markets and relatives etc. and love nothing more than baking away all day to set up for a high tea.

I actually used one cup of white choc chips and half a cup of milk choc chips - so it's more of a Triple Choc chip cookie.
For the cocoa powder I used the Nestle Baking Cocoa Powder that comes in a tin at the supermarket (not very economical but it's a bit better than the homebrand cocoa powder!)
Enjoy!! :penguin:

It's getting ridiculous but I can't stop thinking of the chewy juicy taste in my mouth of the Pineapples and Raspberries! And the yummy creamy Milk Bottles and Strawberries & Cream, and Teeth! I could pretty easily live without chocolate for the rest of my life (I really only eat chocolate at Ladies' Time) but I am borderline obsessed with Allens lollies!! I love Starburst too but i am so all about the Allens. AND AND AND Allens have recently (well, sort of recently) released a Retro Party Mix which has ALL THE BEST STUFF in it! It's awesome - so much better than the standard Party Mix.
This is all not helped by the fact that I have found a place that sells proper Allens lollies in bulk, including Racing Cars which I love too.

There is a CWA ( Chicks with attitude :chuckle: ) in St Georges Rd near my house. When members of the CWA come to Melbourne from the Country, they stay there. I volunteer to show them how to get about and use the transport system etc. They are a hoot, but really opinionated particularly about baking. :chuckle:

Hey say what you want about the CWA, I have a copy of Lady Flo Bjelke-Petersen's cookbook (autographed thank you very much) and those country chicks know their baking - I wouldn't be messing with it!

Yup, a pav fan here too. Great with summer fruit like mango, passionfruit etc. Reminds me of many summer BBQ's, always the chosen dessert! You can lighten it a bit by using good quality yoghurt instead of cream. Adds a bit more flavour and goes beautifully with the fruit.

I love Nigella too. I want to die and be re-incarnated as her!! So right about her being gutsy, she's had such an up-and-down life and has such a stoic attitude to everything. I find it slightly intimidating how she just gets on with things with such a slightly unsentimental attitude. Love her though - so smart and sexy!
And for the record I adore pavlova! A good one can just make your heart melt - when it's hard and crunchy on the outside, and then a bit gooey, and then finally light-as-air inside. Only homemade can replicate that! And as much as I like the variations on it (greek yoghurt with mangoes or berries), I also love the traditional one - cream, strawberries, kiwi and passionfruit!
I have SUCH a sweet tooth and 99% of the time would prefer sweet over savoury food. It's so funny what people consider to be "binge food" - my brother binges on pasta carbonara and corn chips, and for me, binge food is always about SUGAR!

Oh me too, don't worry about that - it's just that sugar is my preferred binge food......although the occasional chip craving does hit me.
I love nigella too! :) I have been watching her shows on ABC and lifestyle alot the few days (her christmas specials are great!) And right as we speak i am cooking a pavlova - the classic pavlova recipe off www.taste.com.au :) (substituted the raspberries for fresh strawberies) cant wait! :D

right now my fave sweet treat is either: Organic blackberries, or organic loganberries. The blackberries I got from a guy at work, he gave all the workers some for Christmas, and the logans are from my mum :hearts: Both dropped them in tonight, withing 15 minutes of each other.
Bugger icecream, this is waaaaaaaay better.
