Does anyone else adore scented candles? I am always on the lookout for good quality scented candles. I don't mind spending up on candles if they are of great quality. I have bought scented candles cheaply before and whilst they smell great in the shop, when you get them home they don't smell at all when lit. I would love to hear about scented candles that really work and that you have been impressed by:)

I agree, always a bit hit and miss with scented candles. Diptyque are the famous covetable ones, pricey but somewhat of a status symbol! I am yet to try one but they are available in Melbourne from Kleins Perfumery in Brunswick St Fitzroy. Have a look at the Adore site as they have quite a collection, perhaps someone on staff will respond soon. The ones you purchase from new age stores look and smell divine but tend not to replicate that aroma once lit. I am an oil burner girl who likes to mix her essential oils to suit the mood!:)

Some of the better scented candles I have used are:
Isola Luce - Kiss me in Fiji, which is available from Adore Beauty, lasts for ages and smells gorgeous and costs only thrity five dollars.
Archpelago Soy Candles- I have had Caramel, Sweet Pea and Pomegranate. These are one of the nicest candles I have had. They leave a really strong smell in the air which I love and burn for about 60 hours. They are available from Kit for around fifty dollars.
Burn Candles- Really beautiful strong smelling candles, Come in lots of different scents and burn for around a hundred hours. They cost about ninety dollars. I justify this by saying it's less than a dollar per hour hehe!
Agent Provocateur: I was lucky enough to receive a couple of these candles as a gift from a friend. They smell amazing and look absoulutely gorgeous!!!!
Bloom also have beautiful scented candles, I have only had one (lavender and vanilla) that I purchased from Adore and it was gorgeous and so reasonably priced at around thrity dollars!
The Body Shop have a range of inexpensive candles that are great value for money and smell lovely. I love the vanilla one!
I would love to hear about any others that people have tried.

Would you believe I was about to talk about Kleins Perfumery!!! One of my favourite shops!! I have been to both stores recently. The Brunswick one just a short walk from Adore Beauty. The St Kilda one in Ackland Street is just as great!

True, I live nearby and it's great (and a bit dangerous!) having the two stores so close. You should go for it with your Diploma, perhaps include Aromatherapy too? Good Luck!:)

Well I simply cannot go past Dusk. Yes their candles can get a little pricey as you go up in size but I am addicted to Vienna. It's Cranberry and Vanilla and smells absolutely divine!
I get their little melts and burn them in the oil burner as well as the candles. I'm a bit sad though, I get all these awesome (huge and expensive) candles from there as gifts but I don't want to burn them coz they're just too beautiful to look at!! I CHERISH my scented candles. :p

Candle junkie here!
The Isola Luce are VERY strongly scented, one candle is enough to scent my whole house, just about! Many of the scents are very sweet/fruity. My favourites are Love in Capri and White Mandarin Flower, these are more floral.
The Demeter candles are fun too, I find some scents are stronger than others - the foodie scents in particular are more noticeable than Dirt/Thunderstorm etc.
There are new Bloom candles coming out in the next week or two, they are made from wax beads rather than solid wax. The scents are "Brown Sugar & Fig" and "Green Tea & Bergamot" - very yummy! They also had a Vanilla Bean one but I didn't order that as it had that burnt-vanilla smell :(
Did you see the new Skeem candles from San Francisco on the site? They are just new, we haven't added them all on yet.
I love those Archipelago ones from Kit too - I've got one that's mango and something or other - yummo.

I love candles too - it's a recent thing for me though. since I got my own apartment 4 months ago
Just bought a Bloom candle from Adore which I am yet to use - I picked up these gorgeous CHEAP Universal ones from Minimax which I have been using! They're $10 (!!!) and in a gorgeous white-and-pink swirly-floraly type jar thing. Was so excited I bought all the stock they had (which was only 4) and have already given one as a gift. Which was loved too!!

How much do you guys think is too much to pay for a candle?
I had a look today at a new range called Vie Luxe and they had the most divine candles - really sophisticated packaging and lovely scents (strong scented too) - but the candles are priced from $93 for the 60-hour to $163 for the triple-wick 150 hour. Which is pretty pricey as far as candles go. What do you think - too expensive?
See http://www.vieluxenyc.com/.

I'm not sure that I would ever pay more that a hundred dollars for a candle. I think the ones that I purchase now that cost between 30 - 100 dollars (Burn, Archpelago, Tocca, Dusk etc etc) are gorgeous and I would probably stick with them before splashing out more cash for candles (even as much as I love them). The only reason I would probably purchase a candle over a hundred dollars would be if someone requested it for a bithday or christmas gift.

I love sented candles so very much but its the one thing i feel silly splurging on.
I have a beautiful tea light candle holder my fiance bought me so i have heaps of different tea lights - rose, vanilla, lavender, green tea...and i usually burn them a few hours before i go to bed.
I have some bigger green tea ones too which have the most refreshing smell! Cant remember the name of the shop but its very similar to Dusk

I have been burning my Dusk Vanilla and Cranberry candle over the past week and it smells gorgeous. It leaves the room smelling beautiful. I find the scent is subtle but noticable. It isn't as strong as say the Archipelago ones from kit but you can certainly smell it! Today I received a set of Gucci scented candles. I can't wait to try them out. I will report back when I have given them a try:)

Yes Gucci have candles. They come in a set of three and they are cuir and rose scented. I got them as a gift from a friend (who left the price tag on $190.00 for three). I will ask her where she purchased them and report back. They come in cute glass packaging adorning the famous Gucci monogram!

Just wanted to rave on about Dusk Candles! I can't believe I have been missing out on Dusk for so long!! How gorgeous are these candles! I am absolutely delighted with the candles I have puchased and they smell heavenly. To start with I only ordered the small ones which cost about $5 each but I have since ordered the largest sizes that they come in. If you haven't tried dusk candles please do. You won't be disappointed!

The other day I puchased two scented candles from The Perfume Connection. One was Cinnamon & Nutmeg scented and the other was Vanilla & Nutmeg (smells like eggnog). They were around $18 each and they smell divine. I'm going to buy some more to put in Christmas stockings etc! I was really surprised how the smell drifted through the house once I lit the candles. Definitely worth a look girls and they would make really nice centre pieces for Christmas tables!
Also worth trying is Blooms Brown Sugar and Fig Scented Candle available from Adore Beauty. $ 25 and smells delicious!

I purchased the razberry candle by Archipelago from Kit last weekend and it smells gorgeous. I also burned my L'occitane gingerbread candle this morning and it too was divine! Anyone tried any other scented candles that are beautiful smelling. I tend to like the ones that you can actually smell and get really disappointed if I can't smell them!

Oooh you should smell the L'occitane Licorice one! Also the pear, mndarin and vanilla! The L'occitane candles have a very high percentage of oils in them. They told me they cram as many in as possible then they must contain themselves because if they put anymore in the candles wont solidify. They are quite small but burn for a long time. They are around $35 each. Definitely check them out!

There is a section on scented candles in the latest edition of Shop Till You Drop Magazine. I so want every candle on that page. Girls do try the Renee scented candles now available at Adore. I am going to get some more. A friend got me some and they smell gorgeous. Snow Peach is my fave! Also the Jo Malone candles are outstanding. French Lime Blossom is my fave!

I'm OBSESSED with scented candles (according to SATC that makes me sad but I'm willing to take that risk). My absolute favourite are Yankee Candles, they are like the Demeter Fragrance Library of candles! I just got one called "Good Morning" which smells like a cinnamony muffin - there's even a picture of a muffin on the front of it. I wholeheartedly recommend these candles. Some "foody" scented candles can smell cheap and gross but I've never had a Yankee Candle that has smelled anything other than luxurious and beautiful.
Also they infuse their scent into the whole candle, not just the top part (which apparently a lot of cheap places do), so the scent lasts right til the end. They're very strong too. I'm in luuuurrrve with them.
I just re-read this thread and am dangerously close to ordering a couple of Isola Luce candles....man I have got to stop coming to this forum!! It's so easy to get so hooked! Every time I walk past the computer now I think "I'll just have a quick look at the Adore Beauty forum....". Which is about twenty times a day!

I love candles & incense but rarely burn them since I've had kids & my boy has sneezing fits when I blow the flame out. He is sensitive to incense too. :( I like to burn a scent after vacumming as it gets rid of that vacum smell. We have a dog so as it sucks up the dog hair the air that blows out the back of the vacum smells like dog. Not good. :flames:
I have a little teapot warmer with a tealight candle but everytime I light it the kids run over sing Happy Birthday & blow it out!

Hahaha I know EXACTLY what you mean! I smell dog every time I vacuum. I keep meaning to get some of that carpet sprinkly stuff that you vacuum up and apparently it deodorises the vacuum bag too......but I keep forgetting.

It's great!! Although the bathroom storage capacity is SERIOUSLY lacking :ashamed: so I'm getting the boy to mount a second cabinet from Ikea on the wall.
Oh and there's no shoe space either. My cupboard has room for five pairs of shoes which is really not going to cut it! I shall be making a trip to Howard's Storage World this week, they have a rack that holds 21 pairs that can be hung from the back of a door; and I've also got 12 clear shoeboxes coming from vilainboutique.com that should take care of the rest :chuckle:

PCC you can get Yankee Candles from www.yankeecandle.com. Unfortunately there's nowhere in Australia that I know of where you can buy them in person (therefore you can't smell before you buy :( ) but rest assured, they're all lovely.
I bought a bunch of scented candles in the Pacifica range from Target today. They're sort of in the intermediate price bracket, but they're really quite lovely for the price. I bought Sandalwood, Tahitian Gardenia, French Lilac and Brazilian Mango and Grapefruit.

OK, so I would spend $93 on a candle if it was really nice. I would burn it on special occassions! Had a look at the website - I like the St Moritz as spicey, warm, fireside, winter nights are what I LOVE, and this sounds like it!
Where can you buy them from in Australia though???
Ozlicious
12-03-2007, 12:28 AM
If I spent $93 on a candle I would tell myself it was for special occasions, but I know I'd end up burning it all the time (I absolutely cannot be in the house without candles or oil burning). I have to say, I really doubt I'd spend that much on a candle. I'd rather spend the money on a greater amount of cheaper candles - I think a $20 or $30 candle is probably as good as a hundred dollar one. Also, my house is big and open plan so I need more candles to actually spread the scent around. Having said that, if someone gave me a prestige candle I'd be a happy gal!

Yes. I keep them, and use them to put stuff in. The wax is usually really easy to get out and you can put them in places you will still enjoy looking at them! I use them to put coins in (silver in one and gold in another!) Very handy!!

I am burning Mor Persian Peach scented candle at the moment. I must admit I am just loving the vintage packaging. It looks gorgeous sitting on my bedside table and it smells sensational too.
I have a set ritual that I read when I get in to bed each night and I always have a scented candle going for half an hour or so just to give the room a lovely smell. It's very important you don't do this if you think you may fall asleep with the candle still going.
Scented candles realy have become a big part of my life. I have a massive collection of them and can't seem to walk past a shop that sells them without making a purchase. I have them going in the lounge room whilst I am watching tv, we have them going at the dining table when we eat, and I have them all around the bath when I take a soak.
I would be lost without my scented candles, they are so soothing and I just love candlelight.

PCC I love my scented candles too. Every morning when I get up, I light 3 or 4 candles and an oil burner, before I even put my coffee on! Because I'm usually home studying for 3-4 hours in the morning before I go to uni, I really love to have a beautifully scented environment around me - it makes it so much more pleasurable! I wouldn't dream of being at home and NOT having candles going. Like you, I light a candle in my room before I go to sleep, but I'm psychotically worried about falling asleep with it still on and the curtain blowing over it and catching fire, so I've stopped doing that. I even have scented candles in my toilet and bathroom - I don't light them in the toilet unless I'm having a party or something, but their presence in there scents the tiny room nicely anyway.
I keep all my scented candles on a little wooden bookshelf that I have in a little nook in my house, and the collection never fails to draw comments from people who see it - my brother springs to mind (he's an eloquent guy): "Holy Shit! That's a f***load of candles!".

It's a friend's birthday tomorrow so I just popped out to get something for her. I bought her a 2 Peas in a Pod vanilla bean candle, but then I went into another shop and saw these gooooorrrrgeous Royal Doulton scented candles. Oh man these are some of the most beautiful scented candles I have ever seen!! So I bought her one in the "Weekender" fragrance. I'm going to keep the vanilla bean one for myself. My bank account is scrreeeeaming at me now, I hope no unexpected expenses pop up in the next week. :shakehead: I have to learn to control myself!

Now before I e-mail the beautiful Miss Celeste is anyone else interested in getting 2 Peas In a Pod Candles? I assume they will be fairly reasonably priced as the entire range is very very reasonable. Just thought I would ask so that Celeste doesn't get bombarded with lots of different e-mails. Just express your interest here in this thread so I can give her an indication of who would be interested in purchasing these candles if Adore are able to get them in stock. I will also find out all the scents they come in.

Archipelago candles are the BOMB!! They are extremely strong smelling and they one of my fave brands. The scent from these candles is so strong that you can smell it all through my house when I have them going (and it's a big house)!! Defintely need you to invest in one of these.:waving:

I will definitely let you know! I have a ton of canldes arriving (probably at work today) so I will be right for a little while! I noticed in the Myer Winter catalogue that Scented Space have new aroma reed varieties. Olive Leaf, Quince (have to get this!) and lemon and verbena (could also be a goer).
On the subject of my candles, I have had an amazing customer service experience with the company http://www.online-candle.com/site/878854/page/45029 Frank rang from there apoolgising for the delay (huh?) and telling me that they had been waiting on a shipment of candles. There are a few that he couldnt supply me with in the Shadows range as they have been deleted (Ginger and Cinnamon was amongst it!) but he is going to substitute them for their own Aroma brand which is a soy based candle.
Medusa, the wax melts in the Mixed Berries that you like is now available in the candle form .It will be one of my substitutes. I mentioned that I belonged to a forum where we had discussed his candles and site and he was very impressed. He reminded me that because my order was over $30 I would get a free gift but said he would throw in some other things for me to try!
Cant wait to get them and I am most impressed that he took the time to call and relay other products that I could substitute for my order.

OMG! Stumbled across a whole store devoted to candles in Brunswick Street today. It is directly opposite Kleins and is called Le Desire. Apparently they have heaps of stores with more opening this year. Their prices are ridiculously cheap. They have a candle in a rectangular looking glass jar that is their stronger smelling variey. It burns for around 40 hours and costs.....$8.95!

I can't get enough of the Kai fragrance either! I don't have any candles yet, but I've got the perfume oil, the body glow spray and the body buffer - they are all gorgeous.
Just got a question for those of you that have used Glasshouse candles - have any of you tried the frangipani scented one? My neighbour was after a frangipani scented candle & I know that Dusk have some. But then I had a look at the Glasshouse ones & they have one too, and I read that you guys had great experiences with them - and the burn time is 100 hours! So I recommended that one & have ordered it for him, because I was going to order some candles anyway. Anyone specifically tried the frangipani? (I'm just trying to recall what a frangipani smells like!)

Hey M - I did a review on MakeupAlley recently, so I'll just cut and paste it below for you;) By the way, I'm also bluemelon on MakeupAlley, so feel free to read my reviews;)
This is definitely a unique product. It comes as a ball shape (about the size of a mini soccer ball), which is split in half (hence the 2 sponges).
At first appearance, it looks like a sponge, but is quite hard and also feels waxy. It contains palm oil derived glycerin, coconut oil and olive oil, so I figured that the waxiness was from that. But I was a bit worried that it was going to leave me all greasy when I used it.
So the instructions say to wet the sponge and squeeze it to release the bubbles, but that was a bit difficult at first because the sponge is so hard initially, but it does slowly soften with each use (up to 30 uses for each one).
Once the sponge became wet, I could see soapy foam start appearing (infused with the Kai scent), so started using it on my skin. It didn't hurt or aggravate my skin, but definitely did a good job at exfoliating. And with the bubbles of soap as well, it's just like exfoliating and using a body wash or soap at the same time.
When I got out of the shower after using it the first time, my skin had this 'weird' feeling - difficult to describe, but it was as if I had a 'layer' of something on - almost like a waxy layer. I'm guessing that this was something to do with the oils, but I couldn't see any oily or waxy residue on my skin. This feeling was gone soon after. After additional uses, I didn't get this feeling afterwards, so it must have just been for that first use where that 'waxy' layer came off.
So to sum it up, it's like an exfoliator and soap/body wash in one. And it leaves you beautifully and lightly fragranced with the Kai scent. This product is like nothing I've ever used before - definitely unique. It's worth the money for the size & if you love the Kai fragrance like me, it's a bonus. Probably something I'll use over the summer months as my exfoliator, and then use the more 'heavy duty' sugar/salt scrubs over winter.

I absolutely love this! The lovely Ms C bought it for me!:penguin:
I still have the other half left. It is supposed to last you 30 days and indeed it does. I dont however, find it exfoliating. Although the sponge is firm to start, it does soften but it is still a sponge. The bubble and fragrance it produces is out of this world!:clapping:

What are the Dusk candles like?

I don't think they are Medusa - I think they're paraffin based. Generally you can tell if a candle is soy based, because the wax is really soft &melts a lot quicker. They are also greasier than paraffin, but these Dusk ones seem like paraffin based. The Dusk glass jars are really cute, because you can buy a little glass shade to go on top, so they look like mini lamps.
I quite like these Illume soy candles I got today - I miss my soy candles ie Pacifica. Also the other brand I got (Paddywax) - they are made out of natural vegetable wax, so another good alternative.

Sorry, dont have an answer for you, you may need to dig around the wick to give it more length though.
I remembered I didnt post what I picked up from Le Desire on Tuesday. I got 3 40hour burning candles in rectangular glass holders in Cinnamon Apple, Holiday Memories and Bordeaux Vinyards. They did have the "notes" of these candles on little cards beside them but I cant remember!
Also picked up some melts in Palm Island (burning at the moment in my oil burner, smells lovely), a cylindrical one called Blended Berries, a smaller one in a range called Serenity, in Tranquility (my fave) and a little votive for Laura that she liked called Tropical Sorbet.
The ones in the glass holders I am told are their most heavily scented candles. They packed them all in a fabric shopping bag and tossed in a rose and white tea melt.
Coupled with the online order I did, I think I have enough candles now for a year!

Yes the Bloom candles are very subtle.
Perhaps you should buy unscented ones Loola and then just add a drop of oil to them to give them a faint scent. There's nothing worse than scent induced headaches.

Does anyone know of any candles that look pretty (like the ones in glass) but have minimal or subtle scents?
Today, I started burning a Paddywax candle which I ordered last week. The full size candles do come in a clear glass & look really nice, but I actually bought one of the little travel ones in the tin. It's the first time I'm trying this brand, so thought I'd just trial one of the travel ones. I honestly don't like very strongly scented candles myself & this one is really nice - not overpowering. The scent I got is the Rhubarb Nectarine & it is yum! I had it sitting next to my computer for an hour & the scent didn't bother me at all.
Their candles are made out of natural vegetable wax, so the full size ones in the glass are a tad expensive, but I think they burn for around 60 hours. These travel ones are around 12 bucks & burn for 15 hours, so you could maybe try one of those - at least you wouldn't be spending too much in case they do affect you.
I think I'm going to get the Mint Mojito one next mmmm!

Apologies, for butting in but...
I try to only ever buy soy candles, where in melbourne is a good place to buy. I know that they're $$ but I only ever have 2 or 3 on the go, as they last so long! ....

Have a guess what I staggered across today? Why at the back of a shelf I found three Pacifica Candles! So naturally I bought them!
Malibu Lemon Blossom
Hawaiian Ruby Guava
Bali Lime Papaya
Quite big candles for just $7 each. I officially need to stop buying scented candles now. I have way too many but I just can't resist them.

Going to go back toorrow and pull their shelves apart. I queried the sales assistant as to why I haven't been able to find these at any other store and why the actual company has said they don't sell them and she said to me "no one ever knows anything around here and they are ONLY scented candles"!!
Medusa

The SA in Target told me to ring their HO to ask which stores had these, so I did. They said no one had any left and that they had received quite a few calls about them. Hopefully they will restock due to demand? She didn't know why they were discontinued though.

Yeah well in the bronx people only buy candles for power blackouts. I was in a rush as I had to pick J up from the airport so will go back in and hopefully they will have some more. I will get hold of as many as I can if they have any and let you guys have first option to them. I seriously don't need any more scented candles. I reckon I have hundreds in my spare wardrobe:ashamed:!! You open the door and the smell comes right out at you.
That's like the rolly box under my bed. Smells so good when you open it!

Ok I bought a stack of melts and tin candles from Soy Scents by Lisa and they are just gorgeous! The melts I have burned so far are:
coconut - so yummy, scented our bedroom and family room with this and received 2 comments on it - even the boy loved it!
frangipani - a true smell, not an artificial plasticky frangipani smell... so lovely
cotton blossom - this is a unique smell, a nice sweet, clean, fresh smell.
love spell - my fave so far :clapping: "citrus, cherry blossom, hydrangea, apple and peach; with a hint of blondewood"
she packaged them up nicely and the smell when I opened it up was so amazing! If you love Cinnamon as well you must get Cinnamon Stick... the smell is unbelievable

I know! I'm hanging out til she re-opens on the 10th, I have my list ready to go :whipcrack:
I finally found Glasshouse candles!!! I was at the BEST candle shop in the Blue Mountains and I gasped out loud when I saw them sitting there... I got Coole Park (Jasmin and Peony), Kakadu (waterlily- my fave) and Strasborg (cinnamon and apple). I am so happy I found them. I was really overwhelmed by all the smells and nearly walked out with none 'cause I couldn't makeup my mind, but I managed to convince myself to stay and choose 3! I am so glad I did!
