Due to special request (thanks PCC!) i thought i would post what i do, or more importantly forget to use.

I really like the Clarins men Moisture Gel and use it daily.

I dont really have a standard Cleanser, i tend to use whatever is in the shower at the time. If i had to choose one off the shelf i would pick one of the Ultraceuticals ones. I have tried the Dr Haushka one but am not a fan.

I use this scrub way too often but like the feel of it. The scrubby particles are tiny.

As for shower Gel this Apivita one is my fav. Great smell, tiny beads, all round winner.

And for shaving i use the Amercian Crew shaving oil. I thought a shaving oil was a crazy idea..... until i tried it. Now i wont change back. Oh and for hair styling i use a John Allans product i picked up from Kit.

Sunscreen? Ultraceuticals. Although i have yet to try the new Megan Gale one.

Thanks for sharing James! I just love it when Males use good products. A lot of guys I know wouldn't know the difference between a cleanser and a moisturiser (yes i'm talking about my brother who used almost a tub of my Creme De La Mer as leg moisturiser!!). It's so nice to have a male on the forum who can share all their secrets and tips with us. Three cheers for James!

James,
I was looking at the Clarins Moisture Gel for my boy to use after shaving. How do you use it? He has dehydrated skin but it is prone to oiliness - a throwback to his acne days. I just got a sample for him to try.

Hi Medusa,

I use it as a moisturiser after hoping out of the shower and shaving. It is very light on the skin so should be good for breakouts. I find i have to stay away from heavier ones as well. I have combination skin though so i dont know if it is hydrating enough. I will ask Kate or Allison and ask them to post.

Medusa, is he using soap on his face? Often dehydration of oily skin is due to an overly harsh cleanser.

No I have got him using proper cleansers but he prefers a foaming one, so I try to buy a gentle one. He is also a fan of spray toners (without alcohol). He uses a gel after shaving then applies a moisturiser over the top.
He had a Dermalogica facial & the thearapist told him it was dehydrated but sold him a harsh cleanser that burned his skin?! He also came home with a hydrating mask. Maybe I should have him looked at again? I really think he is oily-combination.

I have got him using sunscreen daily now but any tips on getting him to use an eye cream?? He is getting wrinkles now.

The Clarins moisture gel is definitely worth a try, it's quite hydrating but not greasy. Others to look at would be Ultraceuticals Ultra Hydrating Gel, or MD Formulations Moisture Defense Antioxidant Serum (oil free moisturisers rich in hyaluronic acid, which is great for dehydrated skin).

As for the eye cream... if he's not worried about the wrinkles then he won't use it. So you could either start commenting on the wrinkles to make him paranoid (which could be considered a bit mean), or just leave an eye cream on his bathroom shelf and hope he gets curious :)

The Clinique Moisture Surge for Men is fantastic. It is actually the same as the women's one but in more male pleasing packaging. It's great for dehydrated skin and doesn't contain any oil. It is as I have said many times before like a big glass of water for the skin. It is a godsend and costs aroun $53 for 50ml.

I use aftershave for cleansing, I dont know whether its good or bad but i have been using it that way from the time my beautician friend told me to do so. I use Dove moisturiser body lotion , That’s my only use of cosmetics, but I will take all the hints and tips from here and will try some new things.

I was wondering about that. I was trying to get my boy to moisturise (with Cetaphil) but he complained loudly because it disrupted his aftershave balm (Nivea) applying routine. Can you use either? If he used the moisturiser instead occasionally would it have the same effect as the balm?

Hi Jaime, aftershave balms are alternatives to aftershaves and have a soothing quality about them with some scent. I dont believe they have enough moisturising properties and have not come across any with a sunscreen built in. Perhaps he could use the balm then a lightweight moist with built-in sunscreen? If his skin is dry he could use the Cetaphil at night.

Ok then. Up until last night when I asked him to try a Cetaphil cleanser, he'd been using just plain bars of soap to wash his face so although it probably wasn't the best form of cleanser, he generally doesn't get too bad dry skin.

Sorry, thought you were referring to the Cetaphil moist (they have one too).

Try to leave the Cetaphil in the shower in the morning, once he realises he doesnt get dry taught skin after using soap, you should have a convert! He can use this morning and night. If he finds he doesnt like the texture, most men's ranges (even Natio) have a foaming cleanser that will be better than the soap.

Hi Jaime
I take liquid aftershave ( Brut /Splash on) that I use as a cleanser, Few cotton balls and pour some aftershave and then slowly rub on the face. And I try to put some moisturiser after If i remember ::redcheeks:

Dipal, what you are essentially doing is "cleaning" you skin with alcohol. Much too drying and although astringent and antibacterial, I dont believe cleansing enough. You would be better off with a rinse off cleanser and leaving the aftershave as a scent. Do remember your moisturiser (preferably with a sunscreen).

James what is the shaving oil like ?

I really like it and have been using it for about a year now. It gives a great shave and doesnt leave the skin irritated or dry like some shaving foams can. The skin doesnt feel 'oily' afterwards just moisturised.

It is quite different to a gel or foam and takes a couple of tries to get used to.

Hope that helps.
