Testing facial Bronzers at the moment....
I've lost my black kohl pencil???
I am always searching for a good milk cleanser that doesn't leave a greasy residue.

Thanks for starting this thread Medusa!
I too am on the lookout for a new facial bronzer. Might go with the Shimmer colour in the Laura Mercier range, Raspberryberet and Kate rave about this one.
What brand was your black pencil? So many of them out there. Do you get the smudgies under your eyes, that may be a consideration when choosing a new pencil. Also, some have a smudge tip at the end which might be useful. Most eyepencils come from the same factory in Germany so you really dont need to spend a great deal on them. That said, there are some lovely "crayon" type ones available which are very soft and have less drag.
Have you tried the Clarins Alpine Herbs Milk Cleanser? Very effective at dissolving makeup and cleansing the skin. Soothing too.
Medusa
04-02-2007, 01:49 PM
I can't remember what pencil I had? Obviously I want one that is soft & doesn't run into any creases. So if they are all much the same quality, I could pick one up in the supermarket then? Mine stocks all the usual brands plus the big Revlon, Max Factor, Maybelline, Loreal displays.
I have used a Clarins milk before, I think it was OK but didn't like the smell. Can't remember which one it was? I'll check them out again. Want something that will rinse off in the shower.
Luisa Brown

For an everyday pencil I would go for one of those, they are fine.
When you say a "milk cleanser" these are usually the ones that get tissued off before rinsing as they are designed to dissolve make up and may have oilier ingredients. Some of the wash off types are still effective at removing make up, particularly if you want to use them in the shower, let's see what the others come up with.

I love the bronzer Hoola by Benefit.
I am always on the lookout for the latest and greatest new products. I never go out intending to buy more and I certainly never need anything but always end up with a heap of new things that catch my eye. I think I would probably have enough makeup and skincare to last me two lifetimes and then some!

Raspberry,
PPS do a great spray in body booster spray called D- Fine Body At The Roots Spray. It contains botanical essential oils and smells gorgeous. I turn my head upside down and spray it all around the roots and even into the midlengths of my fine hair. It works a treat!

Hoola comes in a cute little box (the same as Benefit's Dallas, Georgia and Dandelion) and contains no sparkels whatsoever. It is the perfect shade in my opinion (suitable for all skin types and colours) and allows you to achieve the colour intensity that you want. You can start with it light and apply more to build colour if you want to. It is one of my favourite Benefit products. It blends very easily and can even be used as a blush if you so desire. It costs $50 and will last for ages.

Hey thanks sounds like what I am looking for. I have seen Dandelion (pinkie one) but can you tell me about Georgia and Dallas? Ta
pinkcupcake
04-02-2007, 06:38 PM
Georgia is the apricot one. It is a really sweet light apricot colour. It is pressed powder that can be used anywhere on the complexion or as a blush. I find it gives my pale skin a bit of a lift so I use it in replace of my pressed foundation powder sometimes. It is really pretty.
Dallas is the dark brown and newest one to the collection. It is described as a blush but could also be used as a bronzer. When I first saw it I thought there was no way I wear it as it was far too dark for my very fair complexion. However the Benefit Makeup artist put some on me (just a very light application with a huge brush) and it looked amazing. Again this is one where you can build colour intensity. I use it all the time now and just love it. I especially love the little box with the horse on the front (like Dallas the soap opera)!
raspberryberet
04-02-2007, 06:51 PM
I can vouch for Georgia too. Gives you a lovely apricot flush. Great for a natural look. I haven't tried Dallas as I had the same concern as you PCC, maybe I should get a professional to show me how to apply it first...

Yes Luisa,
I have a pretty good relationship with the girls at Myer. I buy heaps of Benefit when I am in Melbourne and the girls always ring me to let me know about anything new that comes in. I just about have the entire range of Benefit (okay so not every shade of gloss or lipstick) but nearly all of the products. I also get Benefit Catalogues from America which tell me in advance what is being launched.
There's only one way to address your confusion Luisa, either go in and test all the powders out or buy the lot:makeup: !!

LB I love the Laura Mercier 'shimmer' pressed powder - it's very, very light. Probably more of a highlighter than a bronzer but still a hint of colour. Definitely give it a try. Like Kate I wear it almost every day.
If you want more (but still subtle) bronze maybe try the Dallas, because you can use it alone or together with a blush you already have...in case the pinky '10' half-shade doesn't work for you...? It does sound fab though.
Sorry, that wasn't much help! Very indecisive, I am!

raspberryberet,
I have baby fine blonde (highlighted) hair. The best stuff I've ever tried and am on my third bottle is Sebastian Double Body Thick Light spray. It stinks, but works a treat! It actually is supposed to swell(???) your hair, I don't know, but it certainly does what I want it to do on my super fine thinning hair (I'ma twister which kinda pulls it outs when it gets tangled....MUST STOP!!! ).
Hope that helps....
I just bought bronzer today. I bough the Pop one!! It's really lovely. It's not sparkly, but it glows on the skin, which is really nice!

Re bronzers - I'm using the gemma kidd makeup school one... was sort of talked into it at the kit counter!
it like it, but i'm very pale and if i'm not careful and blend it properly i get tide marks all over my face!
it's also very sparkly! which i didn't realise until i was under different lights at home (and had already purchased it) so am thinking of checking out the benefit ones... i also use the napolean gleamer which is good for highlighting (sort of like the new dual one benefit will bring out - so i can use that with a normal bronzer i think)
decisions decisions!!! :penguin: :penguin:

Look at moi calling my stash a "collection" now :chuckle: Makes it sound justified somehow?
Anyhow yeah, NARS. I loove their packaging, looks so cool :sunnies:. I just got a lipgloss which is nice.
I want to add the

The Multiple
Body Glow
What would you recommend?

NARS The Multiple in Copacabana would be perfect for your skintone M - it's a pearly/champagne, one of the lighter ones in the range:

Malibu is good too.
I have the Body Glow - not the shimmery gold one, the monoi oil (with the tiare flower in the bottle). Smells like the beach and soaks straight in.

Reminds me I had a question to ask of the Adoreables too...can anyone recommend a good nude/pink lipstick? Something for a paleface like myself, to go with a bit of a 60s look (winged-out eyeliner and big lashes).
Any suggestions? Have a few glosses but they're not quite hitting the mark...

RB I was on the hunt for this exact thing & despite trying on a ton found they were all too dark. I wanted something really nude, like they do in the mags. A couple SA/make up artists told me a trick.
Blend your foundation/concealer with a lip balm or clear gloss and a nude lip pencil.
I can recommend a stack of pencil I have if you are looking for these.

My fave Nude lip pencils
Innoxa - Natural
Napoleon - Dune
The Body Shop - Nude. This one can actually lighten your lips & has a pearl finish.
Jemma Kidd Duo - 02 Neutral/brown. 1 end is a pinky nude, the other is more a brown nude.
Depends if you a natural lip look or a washed out nude look.

RBB I remember reading an interview with a makeup artist who has done J.Lo's face a few times, and he said that the trick to a nude lip is to actually use pale pink rather than a browny/beigey/peachy "nude" colour. I followed his advice and it works a treat for me. Far more pale/nude than the so-called "nude" colours that end up being too stoney on my lips.

I was going to recommend Bonds too.
I am looking for a blush that suits my pale/blonde/pink undertone complexion that is not too pink or too brown/bronze- I want to emphasize and sharpen my cheekbones, not look like a sweetly blushing rose (though at times I do like that look ;) ). My cheekbones are already quite high and I just want to highlight this but often 'contouring' blushes look too brown and dirty on me.

Saph, I would recommend BECCA Turkish Rose (do you have this already? Vaguely recall you mentioning it!). It gives you the most gorgeous natural flush.
Do you like peachy pinks? If so, you can't go past NARS Orgasm which suits just about every skin tone. I am very pale with pink undertones too, and this is the only blush I buy again and again.
To emphasise cheekbones - and mine are pretty much non-existent! - I use a light sweep of M.A.C's Golden Bronzer. This is the perfect colour for palefaces. I often wear it just by itself.
Benefit's Dallas is a good compromise between bronzer and blush; a pinkish rosy-brown hue with a little shimmer. Great with a light hand and the packaging is super-cute.

My cheekbones are already quite high and I just want to highlight this but often 'contouring' blushes look too brown and dirty on me.
Sapphy it's funny that you should mention this!!! I've been doing the exact same thing - moving away from the "flushed" look towards contouring some sharper cheekbones. I use Benefit Hoola to contour underneath my cheekbones. You do have to be light-handed or it won't blend well and you'll look dirty, but if you do it well it looks great. Hoola is good for this because it is a warm brown but has no shimmer in it, and it is fairly neutral so you can use it with both pinks and peaches.
I suck my cheeks in (like I'm making a fish face) and then use my fingers to pinch the bronzer brush into a fan shape. I then lightly sweep it underneath my cheekbones. Once it's on I use the brush to blend it ever-so-slightly outwards. When that's done I use a blusher brush to apply blush to the cheeks and sweeping up towards the temple. Then I highlight the cheekbones. Done! I now love contouring whereas before it looked scary and 80s to me!

Oh gosh I heard they were no longer available in most of Australia due to our never-ending drought and water restrictions!! I'll have a look for you up here as we've never been on harsh water restrictions and you can still buy things like sprinklers and soaker hoses that are hardish to find down south!

Hi Adorables
Okey dokey, here's what I'm looking for:
The perfect J-Lo bronze/apricot lipstick/gloss lips.
Smokey eyes - a more subtle day look, and a smouldering night eye
A pale nude lipstick
A sexy brown lipliner that is subtle enough to wear with a pink lippie without looking like a porn star.
An eye liner that you can smudge to create a smoky eye or create a sharp line that doesn't smudge later when you don't want it to.
Would love to hear your suggestions girlies!
xoxo

1) Often, a pale pink produces those J.Lo lips better than a "nude" does - in fact, I read that J.Lo herself uses pinks, not peachy nudes. Revlon has some gorgeous rosey nude lipsticks at the moment.
2) I like to create smokey eyes with eyeliner and minimal eyeshadow. I line the eyes really heavily and smudge like there's no tomorrow with a cotton tip. Then I use a small stiffish slanted brush to add a smudgy line of a metallic shadow along the top lashline. I never bother with base eyeshadows or contouring!
3) As I said, Revlon have some gorgeous nudes - I have a lipstick called Nude Splash which is gorgeous. But I do prefer pale pinks if I am doing a smokey eye/nude lip look. I use mainly Revlon for my pink lipsticks as well!! Then I will top with a gloss - Dior, Bloom and of course Juicy Tubes!
4) I'm not one for lipliner but I have one from Rimmel called 'Tiramisu' which is a pinky brown colour, very versatile.
5) Estee Lauder pencil liner in "Softsmudge Black" is fab for this - it's never smudged too much on me but is easily smudgeable when you're creating your smokey eye.

Ok, here are mine...
Bronze/apricot lip gloss: try Stila Lip Glaze in Brown Sugar. Looks dark in the tube but is a gorgeous bronze. NARS Lip Gloss in Chihuahua is a really nice apricot-pink, 'your lips but better' and goes with everything.
Smokey eyes: so many choices! What colour eyes do you have? You can always do the classic black, charcoal or brown but I love a smokey eye in cololur i.e. dark olive greens, plums etc. M.A.C has heaps of shadows to choose from.
Pale nude lipstick: Revlon or Maybelline - think I saw a new promo for Maybelline nudes that have just come out. Great colours. On the more exxy side, NARS Lip Lacquer in Chelsea Girls is perfect for a 60s look (though very pale, better on fair-skinned gals).
Brown lipliner - sorry, absolutely no help here - I rarely wear it. But maybe Revlon?
Smudgey eyeliner - I love M.A.C Technakohl pencil in Graphblack. Very soft but stays put. Benefit Bad Gal is also fab, you can sharpen this one to a point and really go for a dramatic eye. Noice. I also like to use black eyeshadows as liner - you can get them really precise with an angled liner or pencil brush, and it softens the look a bit too (eyeliner can be quite harsh on some people).

The best nude lippy I have found so far is - Shiseido in Magnolia Beige. The Harlotte ones look good too.
Lip liner - try Jemma Kidd's dual ended pencil

I knew I could count on my Adorables! Thank you girls, keep the suggestions coming.
I've got Hazel eyes and am looking for a chocolate eyeshadow and charcoal/dark slate (not blue more black) eyeshadow. I have medium yellow based skin and tend to wear pinks more than peaches which is why I'm trying to get away from pink lippies (I'm soooooooooooooooo addicted to my pink lippies!). I've just bought NARS strip tease and to continue with the pale lip theme I'm thinking about getting the new MAC 2N pale pink lipstik, either that or Lancome's Beige Begs to Be Kissed.
However, I still need more of a beige/peach lippie. I hear what you say Oz about the pink but I'm still not sure. I'll check out your suggestions RBB, love the name of the NARS lip "Chihuahua" cause I have two adorable (just like us!) Chihuahuas. I'll check out the brown sugar lip too. Thanks for the suggestions.
Has anyone used Benefit Lemon-Aid? It looks like it would be good both as an eye highlighter both above and below and corners and everything but I don't know anyone who's used it.
I like the sound of "Tiramisu" as a lip liner and Rimmel is sooooo cheap, so bargain! Thanks!
The girls at Mecca did a lovely smokey day eye for me on Saturday that I'm thinking of getting using "Kitten" by Stilla which is a pale beigey/golden colour all over my eye, with NARS Bengal eyeshadow on my lower lid. Bengal looks terrible on the pallet, a real dark brown with an orangey muddy look but on the skin it's a goregous deep chocolate brown. Both of these are exy and I'm willing to pay the price if required but would love any other suggestions.
While I'm on a roll...Does anyone know somewhere I can get Narcisco Rodriguez perfume at a bargain?

Lemon Aid is good to neutralise dark shadows & redness but watch out if you have dry skin as it is not very creamy & can look flakey sometimes.

Thanks Medusa, really appreciate the websites so I can check them out. I'll be heading to Myer today to check all the suggestions out. Unfortunately I live on the Gold Coast so Myer is like a 15 minute drive from Mecca and a 7 minute drive from David Jones. Plus the Myer and DJs don't have a full range of products, but I'll do what I can with what I have LOL!

For chocolates, try Stila. I think Espresso would be nice, and could work beautifully to deepen Kitten (one of my faves!). You could also try a deep bronze. For grey, Stila Cloud is a light almost muddy grey and looks gorgeous with Pewter. I'd like to add a disclaimer and say I am definitely NOT a Stila rep, but I just love their shadows! So soft and highly pigmented, they blend like a dream.
If you'd like to get some change outta $20, maybe try L'oreal duos; they newest ones are really nice.

O wow!! I dont think I have even ever seen this thread beofre (how funny if I have a post in here :ashamed:)
I am always on the hunt for the perfect fake tan in a great dark colour in just one coat.
Purple suede ballet flats. Brighter Violet as opposed to Muted Plum.
A great top for bigger busted chicks. Since my upgrade I find it hard to sqeeze the girls into my old sizes. I find im busting out all over but the next size up looks too big for my body. Maybe I should be asking for a great minimiser strapless bra!! :clapping:
Can I ask for a million dollars too??

The very best instant ultra dark chocolate coloured tan exists, but.............
- Colours instantly
- 1-minute drying
- Doesn't streak or go orange.
- Smells like Caramel
- Has Coconut and Bergamot Oil plus the signature Pomegranate Ellangic Tannin
- Filled with Anti-Oxidants
Rodial Brazilian Tan $96.00 :shockedhair:

Jesus! That's exy but hey if you only need 1 coat might be worth it. I usually require 3 coats to the colour I want. Mecca sells but hey I found it cheaper and free delivery! :penguin:

Mecca sell the Rodial products. I have not bought the product for myself, but I put a dot on my forearms and backs of hands in store and this most beautiful deep colour lasted 4-5 days. It dried immediately and did not stain my top. For something really special I would probably lashout and pay the outrageously high price.

Another rec for stila espresso... its a great neutral dark grey with warm undertones...
Cloud is slightly cool toned grey and shimmery. Another shadow of theirs which is very versatile is puck.. quite neutral and goes with warm and cool colours.
Barefoot contessa is a great dark shimmery brown with plummy undertones, and if you want a warmer undertoned but similiar shadow, Twig is quite good.. I have way too many stila shadows.:redcheeks:

Oh Kit_Kat, great suggestions! Can't wait to go check these all out. At the moment I'm holding off visiting Mecca cause I have no money and it would either just make me feel poor, or I'd end up spending money needed for bills on make up and then I'd end up feeling all panicky and sick! :chuckle:
