Ok Ok, have already made comments on almost everything in the Adore Beauty Forum and despite my penchant for expensive glam skin care and the like, I CANNOT do without hand cream! Before I post my (nauseatingly) long list of faves, what are yours? Particularly which ones would you buy again?:)

well I must be as bad as you because I have just about had something to say about everything on the forum as well but hey its fun and so exciting to share ideas with others and I am just loving the forum!!!
As for hand creams I have a lot but don't use them as often as I should. A few of my favourites include:
Honey butter for hands and feet from the Body Shop
All the of the Mor Hand creams (marshmallow, sorbet, gelato, limoncello etc)!
Rose hand cream by Jurlique
Velvet Glove hand cream by Mecca Cosmetica
When my hands are dry I load on the hand cream and sleep in cotton gloves overnight. They help lock in the moisture. I stole this idea from Sarah Jessica Parker in an episode of sex and the city!

Ok, here goes.....!!
Hand Creams currently on rotation are:
Aesop Resurrection Hand Balm (from Adore Beauty - buying some more tonight!)
Ahava Advanced Hand Cream (from Israel), with Dead Sea minerals and has the most amazing scent is extremely long acting (think it has a touch of silicone).
Ahava Dermmud, hand treatment with Dead Sea mud.
Mecca Cosmetica Age Defying Hand Cream (with AHA's) - spectacular! (2nd priciest)
Botani Olive Hand Cream (3rd priciest and PLEASE- a hand cream in a tub???)
Jurlique Lavender Hand Cream (have lost count on how many of these I have gone through)
Jurlique Rose Hand Cream ( ditto)
Garnier Hand Cocoon for seriously dry hands (cheap and cheerful).
Manicare Hand Mask (cheap and a great hand cream despite the title mask)
L'occitane Shea Butter hand cream (thanks Qantas!)
Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream (not illegal and very good. Tricky metal tube)
Crabtree and Evelyn La Source Hand Cream
Herome Hand Cream (wont be buying again)
Qtica Overnight Hand Balm from the US. Gooey, all night care, great for cuticles (most expensive in collection but a definite must have)
Creative Nails Apple and Cinnamon hand and body lotion. (not sure if this scent available in Australia yet but worth getting someone to bring it back for you from the US).
SBS1 Relief cream. From the makers of Swisse vitamins, this has lots of lavender is designed to heal. (from chemists)
In Essence Hydrating Hand cream (weird gel like texture, don't think I will buy again).
Ok, yes I did say "currently on rotation" and I have gone around the house to collate these. Can't believe I have 17 hand creams on the go! Did someone say "addiction"?!

My Goodness! Wow that is amazing! I am loving you and your input so much. I just love hearing about all your fabulous products!
One I forgot to mention earlier was:
Archipelago white sugar and mango hand cream available exclusively through Kit Cosmetics. It's rich and very hydrating and smells delicious. They also make a brown sugar and vanilla one. It costs about $45.00!:)

Hello! I am having so much fun with this forum! So glad you like my imput, I have put you on my buddy list but not sure what that means?! Also love Kit, bought a stunning blush by Pop there the other day, be sure to check out that scrumptious hand cream when I am next there!:)

I will put you on my buddy list as well:) I love Pop from Kit I almost have everything in the Pop range. I love the eye cakes and the glam Jam especially! Also have you had a chance to check out the new Jemma Kidd makeup school range yet?
I am loving the Mario Bedescu skincare from Kit. I have the following:
Enzyme Cleanser: Contains Alpha Hydroxy Acids and is a non foaming gel cleanser. Leaves skin feeling soft and fresh and only costs $32.00.
Seaweed Toner: Very refreshing and softening and costs $38.00.
********** Face Scrub: Smells sensational but I found it wasn't quite abraisive enough for my liking. It also comes in Kiwi and costs about $40.00.
Buttermilk Moisturiser: Oil free (for my t-zone) and absorbes beautifully. A lovely non greasy texture and a very cute little bottle. $48.00.
Kera Moisturiser: A good moisturiser for my cheeks and areas in need of moisture. $53.00
Herbal eye cream: A little thick and heavy for my liking but good to wear to bed. I just found it wasn't easily enough absorbed before I put my makeup on.
Herbal Hydrating Serum: This is a gorgeous product I use every morning and night under my moisturiser. It's so comforting and hydrating and I believe it is one of Mario Bedescu's best selling products. It is $73.00 and worth every cent.
I use two Mario Bedescu masks:
Enzyme Revitalising Mask:
Contains Alpha Hydroxy Acids for exfoliation and also contains papaya, grapefruit and vitamins A & E. I love this mask because it leaves my skin feeling baby soft.$54.00
Whitening Mask:
Contains skin lightening kojic acid and licorice extract. It is good for mild pigmentation and acne scarring (Either of which I don't have) but is also extremely hydrating. I love this mask although it's weird when you try to wash it off because you actually have to wipe it because it wants to stick to your face. This aside I think this product is worth five stars out of five! $63.00!!!!!!!

OMG!! You are worse than I am!!! I too have so much stuff that I find it hard to keep track of! Either I am in love with it and buy extra so I always have one to go on to or I have opened jars everywhere as I have to try the "latest thing"! Hee Hee!
Very impressed with the POP items at Kit, just be sure to test that anything you buy in the tins is not rattling about. Was just about to leave with my duo blush and got attendant to check on the rattle and sure enough it just fell out! Have had a play with the Jemma Kidd make-up. Love that she calls it Make -up School. Have my eye on the eyeshadow sets and cant make up my mind on which colour pallette.
Mario Bedescu takes me right back! His range started with the tiny bottle of Pimple Drying Lotion which smells rank but soothed and dried out pimples. It has been around for about 20 years! Have not tried the other lines yet although from your description I like the sound of the Enzyme Wash, the Herbal Hydrating Serum and the two masks.
The enzyme wash sounds similar to the Neo Strata cleanser. It is also non foaming and has about 10AHA. The Whitening mask with kojic acid sounds good as I have a few freckles I would like addressed! The Fading Gel in Neo Strata also has Kojic acid and is a shocker to use. It is gooey and just peels and flakes off! Sound like it might be the ingredient as you describe the same thing in the MB mask.
Went back and had a read of my hand cream listing and had a big chuckle! I found another one! The Face Shop (at Melbourne's Jam Factory) Honey Balm was in the bottom of my handbag!
Going off now to reply to your new thread in skin care!:)
PS Do you like my Chanel liptick avatar next to my name??!!

Loving your Chanel Lipstick!!!!
If I love a product I always buy another and put in my cupboard so that I never run out. The problem is I always seem to find another product that I just have to try and then the collection grows and grows!
I know what you mean with the Pop tins. I was told that people quite often drop them on the floor and that's how they come loose or crack. I always get the Kit girls to open them up just to check!
Have you had a chance to smell the new Kit fragrances yet? I haven't but am very curious about what they smell like.
I am so looking forward to all the the little sets of things that come out at Christmas time. I have noticed that Estee Lauder, Clinique and Lancome already have their christmas treats out in store!
Have you checked out the rescu bauty bar? I love rescu so much as it has one of my favourite brands ever which is Pout!
However Adore Beauty is the most efficient mail order service I have every used. You just know that when you order your products and request express post that they will be there the next day without fail! Yes I am one of these people that wants everything as soon as possible. I have just found with other mail order services that even if you request express postage it still takes many days to arrive. I recommend Adore to all my friends because they have such brilliant customer service!:)

We're certainly going off on a tangent with this thread, arent we?!!
Havnt smelled the Kit fragrances yet, I go to the store in Chapel Street and always seem to pop in there before a movie so I dont get enough time to look around!
As far as the Christmas sets go, they do look great but I try and contain myself as they usually include stuff I wont use and I'd rather spend that money on a full-size product. Also I am not a fan of Lauder (except their lipglosses!) or Clinique. Did go and check Clinique's new cleansing balm as I thought it might be like the Eve Lom one but alas, no!
Also belong to rescu although I am yet to order anything from them. Have encounterd the Bergman range overseas and it looks quite spiff They do have another product I used to use years ago, the Erno Lazlo range and I think their weird 20 splashes of hot and cold water thingy is still practiced! Also curious about the Sjal products - will have to look into those. They do have Cargo and although I love the glosses I am not a "finger in the pot" kind of gal so I just admire them! Will give the liquid foundation a go though, interesting little pouch it comes in. LOVE LOVE LOVE Pout and its gorgeous retro packaging and they have the L'Artisan range of perfumes that I am dying to smell so I will have to find a retail outlet to try them until they invent smell-a-computers!
I too love Adore for its service and well-presented online store. I am lucky that I live only a few blocks from the Melbourne store so I dont pay any postage, just have it sent there, they notify me when it arrives (which is like a day!) and I collect it! Have actually had the pleasure of meeting Allison too!

Holy Moly you two are certainly on a role! :D
I have to say I actually only have 2 creams at the moment! One at work (Bloom) and one at home (Manicare). I also use Healthy Hoof on my cuticles before bed each night.
I've had to put a hold on my 'beauty product spending' coz my other half gets his nose out of joint! You know the usual "why did you get that when you have 3 others you haven't finished yet?" What can I say? I get excited when I see something new and simply cannot wait! :)

I know exactly what you mean. However Luckily I am single again at the moment and don't have to contend with these issues! If someone wants to marry me they Marry me and my beauty products. People often tell me I could have a nice deposit on another house if I stopped buying beauty products. I simply say to them YES but that would be so Boring! What's the point in having another house if you have nothing to put in the bathroom!;)

Ok ladies, sorry to go back to the original topic :p but I have a hand cream suggestion.....
Gotta love the Alchemy hand cream, which is actually a GWP at the moment. Extremly rich and moisturising (without leaving your hands greasy..YUCK) and doesnt have some over powering scent that knocks you out :D

Luisa Brown
30-10-2006, 11:19 PM
Yay!! Ahava is great! Their Advanced Hand cream is one that I have re-purchased so that's saying something. They have a newer one with the mud (it is only slightly coloured, I promise!) and is more of a treatment. My husband has an addiction to the mudd soap, he just loves it!:)

they have a new one?? Wow, definitely must try that one. It feels like absolutely silk when I apply their hand or body lotions, and it smells amazing. And the best thing about them if you don't have to reapply (my mother uses sorbelene and constantly reapplies all day. I keep telling her to invest in something that you don't have to use so much of!) Ahava also has a new moisturizer coming out for Combination Skin which sounds really lovely.

I'm not really a handcream addict - I own three at the moment. Using Crabtree and Evelyn Jojoba oil handcream, and have 2 MOR handcreams for backup.
To me I feel all handcreams are more or less the same. As long as I put some creams on my hands, it's do.
But I'm a body lotion addict, it will take me 15 minutes to type them out!

I was a hand cream addict and had many many differents brands floating around at any given time, mostly Evelyn & Crabtree, Clarins, etc, but I've been a Mirenesse Active Hand Balm devotee, ever since with my first order of Mirenesse from Adore Beauty about 5 years ago when Kate included one as a gift with purchase!
This is simply the best hand cream - once you try it you will throw away the Mor's, E&C, etc....
Maybe Kate could do a special deal or a gift with purchase deal on this one for forum members! ;)
Anyway, I rub this into my hands once a day, and then just before going to bed, and I rub some of the Lucas' Papaw Ointment into my cuticles and hey presto, when I wake up lovely soft and smooth hands and cuticles!

Nivea Q10 for hands and nails, this is an inexpensive cream but very effective
Clarins SPF Hand Cream

Just a hint, I recently tried the new Johnson & Johnson Aveeno hand cream, to keep on my desk at work, and it left white smudges on my black clothes wherever my hands brushed my clothes. VERY annoying. J & J were good with my complaint though and sent me a body lotion and some liners (????!!!!!) - but watch it near your clothes!!

At the moment I'm using Crabtree and Evelyn Lavendar hand therapy. Now I'm not usually a big fan of Lavendar... to me it smells like toilet water :p . But this scent is wonderfully soothing. I agree with tim tam in that it doesnt absorb real quick... but it's worth it because it makes your hands really soft!!

I have a new hand cream at home and at work beside my computers - the Kiehl's Ultimate Strength Hand Salve. Has a strange smell (contains eucalyptus as well as avocado and sesame oils) but the texture and the fact that it moisturisers for ages appeals to me when I cant reapply often.

Do you ever sleep in white cotton gloves at night after applying hand cream. It allows the hand cream to penetrate deeper throughout the night. I do it often!

I've tried many handcreams over the years, & as I'm getting older feel I need to use them more & more. Don't recall my hands feeling that dry before... maybe it's from working in a/c??
My two HG's are:

one hand cream that i have not seen mentioned - maybe b/c it's quite daggy - is neutrogena. it's what i like to call a cheap and easy - $7 0r $8 from priceline but awesome. It's not very lotion-like when you squeeze it onto your hand, but feels great and so soft immediately after. I've also been known to use it on my lips as a lip balm. is very handy - pardon the pun.

Hee Hee, we're all into funny puns ( dont say that too fast!) :shakehead:
The Neutrogena one is very popular but for me it has a ton of glycerin in it. A fantastic formulation (the glycerin is a humectant and designed to attract moisture to the skin) but the texture is just a little too greasy for me.

I really like Nivea Hand Intensive Nourishing Cream. I have tubes of it everywhere ! Handbag, bedside table, car etc etc (currently have 3 on my desk at work). For the price, no more than $4, its great. Hand cream is defn. one of my staple beauty products.
I also find that Lucas' Paw Paw Ointment is fantastic for hands. If you apply a small amount to the palms and the backs of your hands and rub it in as much as you can before you got to sleep, you wake up with soft, silky hands. Make sure you rub some into your nails aswell !

One of those silly but need to know questions...
How does hand cream differ from body cream? Is a rich body lotion just as good?

One of those silly but need to know questions...
How does hand cream differ from body cream? Is a rich body lotion just as good?
Good question Medusa! Apart from the more user friendly size and portability there can be some differences. A rich body lotion will suffice but you may have noticed that many hand cream textures are quite different to body lotions. The are usually denser to make sure they adhere longer. I tend to steer away from the lighter ones as my hands really do require something richer and longer lasting - and that's the key, how long they stay in place. Some are so effective that even after hand washing, their effect is still going.
Some hand creams may contain ingredients like dimethicone which helps to act as an invisible glove so especially after hand washing or using things that might irritate skin, like gardening, these are ideal.
Also some hand creams contain nutrients/ingredients that are designed to strengthen nails, you may have come across ones catagorised as a hand/nail cream.
Whew, hope that clarifies things!
krissyk

Excellent answer LB!
I was also thinking along the same lines and about to reply to the handcream question. I love the ones with that glove feeling, containing dimethicone:waving: tried a new one called Aveeno made by Johnson&Johnson (just from Priceline) and it has that nice light non greasy feeling when applied and lasts through a handwashing, lasts quite a few hours for me and my hands are often in water.

Thanks krissyk! Aveeno one is excellent, have that one at work. Their range has oatmeal in it which really helps to calm irritated skin too.

Isn't our Luisa a very well educated and cleaver little bunny! Thanks for the advice I often wondered what the difference was.
My favorite would have to be OPI AvoJuice in Coconut and Melon or Grapefruit. They are really non-greasy which is the main thing I look for in a hand cream, and they smell absolutley delicious!! They come in heaps of flavors too!

I got a sample of Trelivings Kangaroo Island Eucalyptus Hand & Nail Cream with Cocoa Butter and it is the best I have used in ages. I thought I would be put off by the ecualyptus smell (thought my hands would end up smelling like a cough lolly!) but it has a fresh, clean smell, which I love. The fragrence lingers for most of the day and it keeps my hands moisturised for most of the day. Just not sure where I can buy it from though ...

Elizabeth, some gift stores sell the range but I am yet to come across this Kangaroo Island Eucalyptus range. Have however found an online site you can buy from!

I have been looking at heand creams as well - how fortunate we have this thread!! I have wanted to try Santa Maria Novella's Almond Paste for about two years, but you can't this in Australia (that I've found yet...), but apparently it is the BEST for hands - hydrates smooths, and lightens (so I've read...handy when you've got little sunspots on your hands). All the reviews on Makeup alley give it a massive rave, but I can't have it:shakehead:
A good handcream is essential since your hands are usually the first place to show signs of ageing....can't hide your hands...:ashamed:
Maybe I'll try the Mecca one for the time being, currently I'm out.

I'm obsessed with Crabtree and Evelyn Hand Therapy, so much so that if I run out I have to go to the shop that day to get more. Currently I'm rotating between Lavender (so fresh and lovely - I used to think it was a grandma's scent but I can sooo see it making a comeback), La Source (really gorgeous marine scent) and Rosewater (a bit cloying for my taste, not sure why I got it). Summer Hill is also a lovely floral scent and I'm umming and ahhing whether to get Goatmilk - it smells like rancid milk on first application but then goes lovely like soft milk and baby powder. I don't think the different scents contain different ingredients or anything, I think they're just for fun and God do I get sucked in! I adore opening the new box and pulling out the perfectly smooth and shiny metal tube. Heaven!
My bargain recommendation is Redken Skin Repair, about three bucks from the supermarket. Truth be told it's probably just as good as Crabtree and Evelyn, for one-ninth of the price.

Also have to add that I love the Avon Moisture Therapy handcream, its a real cheapie at around $5 a tube ( can sometimes get it on special for $2.50 arrpox) and is great with the cotton gloves in winter for a really nice hand treatment!
I agree, I've used this one and it was gooorrrgeous. Really lovely texture. I really like Avon's moisture therapy line, their foot lotions are great too (and at under five bucks and delivered to your door, who can complain?!). I must get the catalogue off my Mum and order a few. Go Avon!
Someone mentioned the Neutrogena one, I think it's called Norweigan formula or something? Apparently it's used by fishermen who work in the North Sea. Anyway, I don't like it - I find it really gunky, greasy and ineffective. Many people swear by it though!

This one has been around for a lifetime! It is still popular and has some devoted users. It is quite greasy (has a glycerin base) but you only need a dab and it tends to stay on longer. Not my cup of tea though!

Took an email from US company Beauty Habit for me to find out that Jurlique has a Citrus hand cream on the market. Anyone seen or smelt this yet? It is almost worth buying from the US as their large (40ml) one is $25.00 while here according to their website you only get the 125ml for AU$27.00! Sounds deceptively like the Aesop one to me...

No, I have not tried the microdermabrasion one but am keen to try the treatment hand cream in the gold tube. Must say they are not looking bad!:chuckle:

I put my leftover Liquid Gold on my hands too!
I have to say, I'm not into the idea of Jurlique products being citrus-scented. I like the fact that it has old-fashioned scents and old-fashioned packaging, whilst remaining "new-age" in the sense that it's organic and Australian-owned
I am fast running out of hand cream and am thinking of trying a new one!! My favourites are Crabtree and Evelyn Hand Therapy, Aesop Aromatique Resurrection Hand Balm, and L'Occitane Shea Hand Cream. I used to have a Dermalogica one a couple of years ago, it was a multivitamin one or something, that was nice...hmm.....What should I try next?? I like one that is very hydrating but relatively non-greasy, and a fresh sort of scent (ie no cocoa-butter type smells!). Oh also not too expensive - about $25 for a tube is my limit!

Oz, have you tried the TBS Hemp one? It popped into my head as soon as read your requirements.
I was wondering what hand creams you ladies would suggest for nail care as well as moisturising? I may have read it in a few various other threads but I can't find where I read about it. I know people suggest Q-silica but I've been told hand creams are also good for weak nails? Mine always cracks sideways and rarely ever grow longer than 2mm from when it joins with my nail...

My mum uses these too, the shea butter and the cherry or maybe the rose, can't quite remember.
I've tried many handcreams over the years, & as I'm getting older feel I need to use them more & more. Don't recall my hands feeling that dry before... maybe it's from working in a/c??
My two HG's are:
Jurlique Rose Hand Cream
Davies Gate Lemon Made Hand Salve (from Kit).
Have only just been using this for a few weeks & it's fab! Quite thick, but u only need a tiny amount & it absorbs so well, without the greasyness! :)

how come these prices of thedr hauschka brand keep going up at least 1 or 2 times a year :shakehead:
Alice, most brands raise their prices at least yearly. It is due to increased cost in materials and transport - we all pay more for petrol, for example, and so are the businesses who take the materials to Dr H to create the products and the couriers who freight it - does this make sense? So from the raw ingredients the prices increase all the way through the supply chain to the consumer.
Alice
16-05-2008, 05:01 PM
I think your right Celeste, everything is getting more and more expensive... its so sad especially for brands that I dearly love, it ultimately means that they are going to be out of reach within my budget. I hope some lower end brands don't jump their prices up too quickly.... we were talking about this topic recently at uni in our small business management class it got quite heated, but really did highlight what a struggle it can be for businesses (big and small) to ensure the achieve a healthy profit & sustainable future.

Luisa I have the Lemon Maid one and it is DIVINE! I always get comments on the yummy smell. Same with my new Coconut & Lime hand cream by Earthly Possessions. i wasn't expecting much from this but I love the scent, but the cream is actually pretty good.
Can anyone rec a good hand cream with high SPF. I need to get serious about protecting my hands. Should I just use IZ?

Hi M!:waving:
The Alpha H one also has an amazing lemon smell - just wish I knew where I put it! Think I will stay away from the coconut one though! Have the sugar plum variety in the Kit one but am yet to try it.
Regarding the SPF, if you are serious about protecting your hands, put the IZ untinted on for long lasting, superior protection.
