My dad is currently renovating a house for me to move into or either rent it out, i get to chose everyone etc with in reason but one thing he won't chnage is the bathroom. The only thing its getting is new fittings and painted. It has no bench top and very little storage for all my girly things i need in the bathroom.
I went onto the Ikea website and found heaps of space saving furniture but i have never purchased from Ikea, so i want to know the following things.
1. Would you reccommend Ikea items?
2. Any tips on bathroom organisation and space saving?

Try and get hold of the catalogue and show him how reasonably priced they are and how they test them for strength and durability. Hopefully he may fork out for these in the reno?
You must stand firm on getting enough storage space - an ABSOLUTE NECESSITY for us adoreables!

Luisa, I tried to explain to him if we buy these items from Ikea he would be able to make more money with the rent. ALso he would have a happy daughter with lots of nice storage instead of agrumpy daughtetr who has to store things in a bucket ont he floor. Not pretty !!!
I think he will fold, i'm lucky i do get a lot of the things i want.

I don't see anything wrong with Ikea furniture - its quite reasonably priced. I guess if it looks dodgy then try it out first.

Good luck!
For smallish things, I have an black iron French provincial looking stand that I store stainless steel photo boxes (from Ikea!). I label them on the outside and this really helps to contain smaller things while still looking neat. Bottom shelf holds towels metal basket of soaps. Top shelf is handy for things you use often like tissues.

wow Luisa you sound like you have a very organised bathroom! Mine is tragic, I tend to just shove everything in the cupboard and complain why I can't find anything.

PP definitely get the catalogue. Ikea is so cheap and they have some fabulous storage products. Actually all of my storage stuff is Ikea. I use a slim double-shelf thing to hold towels and a mix of stackable boxes and tins for skincare/beauty.
You know, the other thing is that if your dad puts in some built-in storage it's likely to add more value/make the house more attractive to future buyers. Storage is a major selling point, especially when it comes to the kitchen and bathroom!

My bathroom is very clean but it is so over crowded with products.
You should see the amount I took to hospital. The nurses couldn't believe it! Well I did have to prepare for a variety of situations now didn't I!! I filled up their cupboards as well as any available bench space plus had a huge toiletry (ok overnight bag that Luisa gave me) filled with things on the floor!
Princess I say go and buy the storage thingies yourself then he can't say no now can he!

I lurve Ikea. They have such cool things at great prices. Some of the gear is really clever. Don't just look in the bathroom section though, use you imagination. They have excellent storage solutions throughout the whole store.
I highly recommend one of those big mirrors that opens to a cupboard. Get the biggest one you can fit. They are quite shallow but perfect size for beauty products.
Treat yourself to some king sized towels in egyptian cotton. You'll thank me for it.
Also if you have long hair & don't already own one of those super aborbant hair towels, then get one quick smart. I couldn't live without mine. They really do work & are super light on your head.

Yeah i think i'm just gonna go crazy in Ikea and get everything i need. Luckily i have been collecting stuff for some years now, so basically have a full kitchen of stuff and linen etc.
I'm most looking forward to decorating how i want.

i'm very excited because i am getting my mid-80's bathroom completely renovated - the work starts on Monday and will take around 4 weeks!
i moved into my house around 6 years ago with plans to renovate - but it has taken me this long to get organised - and my bathroom is the first room i am getting done. the things i am most excited about getting are: under tile floor heating (especially for winter!), a new deep japanese style bath and cool storage and shelves for my beauty products

Oh I wish we had an Ikea here, I would KILL for one and I think it would do really well!! I desperately need to better organise my bathroom. If I don't tidy it up EVERY DAY it gets out of control. I have things in lovely baskets but they're outgrowing the storage. I don't like to put products in the cabinet underneath the sink because if they are put there they will never get used. I need to figure out some (cheap) storage solutions.
