What is your favourite lip balm?

I am obsessed with lip balm. Everytime I go shopping I always seem to put a lip balm into my cart. I think I do this because lip balms are often inexpensive and its something else to play with whenI get home! I love the gorgeous little tins many of them come in. Some lip balms smell great but they often aren't very effective. The most effective ones that I use reguarly are:
Blistex Lip Conditioner - it's cheap as but so effective!
Lucas Paw Paw Ointment - It a cheapy but a goody.
Smiths Rosebud Salve- which is available from Adore great for cracked lips!
Lipscription By Benefit- comes in two tubes, one is a scrub and the other a balm. It's around $45.00 but is so worth it I just love the lip scrub!
Badger Balms - also available through Adore, come in the most adorable little tins I have ever seen and they are really effective. I recently bought the Chai Rose one ant it is lovely. They also have little packs of three available at the moment which I purchased when I was recently in melbourne. One is a sleep balm, another a sore muscle rub and I thinkte other one is for hands!

I am of the philosophy that if you start using lip balm you have to keep using it as your lips become uncomfortably dry if not, so it's a vicious circle! Can others attest to this or is it an old wives tale?!
That said, an amazing, inexpensive lip balm available in most chemists is the NS3 lip balm. It is designed to actually heal the skin and not just sit on the surface. I use this on my daughter and when the condition is over, lips don't revert to being dry. It has Beeswax, Glycerin, Honey, Grapeseed and Vitamin E Oil, even Aloe Vera, Allantoin and Vitamin C. Has essential oils of lemon and grapefruit too. Am reading this off the packet as we always keep a spare around. Worth giving a go!:)

This can be true of petroleum-based lip balms as they create a barrier over the lips rather than penetrating the skin. Then if you stop using the barrier, the lips revert to their dry state. They don't actually dry out the lips though :)
I guess the other possibility is that once you start using lip balm, you get used to the nice moist feeling, so that if you stop using it your lips feel dry ;)
My favourites at the moment are Smith's Rosebud Salve and Burt's Bees lip balm.

I can't go past Blistex for really damaged lips, but I'm loving the Badger Balms at the moment! I bought the Chai Rose one and it makes your lips really soft! I am also a lip balm/gloss junkie.... I just can't help myself! I must have hundreds lying around the house...:o

Jaime, you and I have very similar tastes! I love the badger balms!!! Great to have your input on the forum to! Welcome to Beauty Junkies Anonymous!!!!!
I like the Clarins Moisture Replenishing lip balm. it gives a nice glossy look to my lips and doesn't feel greasy.
If I use greasy lip balms i sometimes get blackheads around the line of my lips. Yuck!!

I too am a lip balm queen. I cannot stand lipsticks - they make me feel old - but gloss just looks so hot!!
Lancome Juicy Tubes are my absolute favourite cos they taste so lovely too (but at $42 a tube they're not so handy - great getting 3-packs duty free though!).
MAC Lipglass is great too, comes in fabulous colours.
Elizabeth Arden 8-Hour Cream I use every day. It is THE BEST, I cannot say enough about it. I use it during the day as it is very conditioning, and at night i put it all over my chin (where I break out most) and on any little blemishes that are starting to appear. You can only do this at night as it is shiny, but every morning when I wake up my skin looks better. It is a MIRACLE cream!
I really need to try this 8-hour cream!!

You won't regret it I promise!
I have to go to DJ's tomorrow to find a hat for Spring racing... so I'll pick some up then. Expensive? And you reckon it will help with my scarring?
Celeste(Staff)
31-10-2006, 03:15 PM
It costs about $35 for 50ml I think - and lasts for ages.
It may help with scarring but I'm not too sure - but it does stop scars from occurring when you put it on zits!
Good luck, let me know how you go Sarah!

I have been using Dr Lipp Nipple Cream For Lips (sounds awful I know). I totally forgot to mention it in my earlier posts. Anyway it is a miracle cream. It's made using medical grade lanolin. When my lips get really dry I put it on before bed and overnight my lips improve dramatically. It has a similar consistency to Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Cream. It costs around $40.00 and is available from Mecca Cosmetica!

I have worked with Arden and the 8 hour cream is lanolin based. This is the primary ingredient ( a very cheap ingredient considering the price). It lubricates the skin well but will not pennetrate deeply.
With glosses I suggest avoiding the petrolium ones if you want a nourishing effect. Many chemist brands contain menthol- this makes you feel like it's meditated as it tingles on the lips.
If you have sensitive lips avoid balms with peppermint extract in them.
To all the gals that suggested Pawaw ointment... I just got back from my break with a tube in hand. Can't wait to try it out!! Thanks!! :)

I've used paw paw ointment for years and it is the best lip balm out there. Cheap and readily available. i reccommend the tube rather than the tub. cleaner to use :p

i love perfumeria gal lip balm from madrid in red current. they used to stock it at mecca cosmetica but dont anymore although you can get it on the net and some flavours at DJs. smells divine and i get many comments. comes in gorgeous little tin too.

Nothing beats eight hour cream! $34 a big 50mL tube and it lasts forever (my current tube is from 3 years ago? and I still got more than half left!!) So it is actually relatively cheap. If you compare to other supermarket lipbalm it's really about the same price.
I noticed petrolitum is the main ingredient and also salicylic acid. The ingredients look nothing special but it just works! So I don't care what's in it.
I used to have very dry lips and they flake all the time. After I use this everynight on my lips I don't have flakies anymore

Apparently the 8 hour cream was developed by Elizabeth Arden to use on her horses's very dry skin. It worked so well she sold it to us humans ;)

My favourites at the moment are Smith's Rosebud Salve and Burt's Bees lip balm. The Dr Hauschka (is there an extra letter in there?) lip balm advertises that it's non-addictive. Not sure why/how...
I love Smith's Rosebud Salve too.
Laura Mercier Lip Silk is a good overnighter.

Blistex is definatley the best for super dry lips, & Lucas Pawpaw ointment is great for dry patches on your face too, esp during winter... My faves for colour are Lancome Juicy Tubes & Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss... shiny, but never sticky ;)

I've heard so many reviews for this lucas pawpaw ointment, but when I go to get some do you think I can find any in the tube form? There was a little note on the shelf saying the manufacturer is out of stock?? Boo

Have you tried Priceline, discount pharmacies or warehouse chemist?
A lady came into the store the other day and told me she heard there is a lip gloss that is a food and cigarette suppressant?!
Anyone else know of this?? :rabbit:

I'm also a lip balm/gloss addict - have so many tubes lying around the house and even some at work. I love the Badger balms, especially the Sleep Balm - the calming scent helps me drift off to sleep. I also love the following:
Eliazabeth Arden 8 hour cream - can pretty well heal most skin complaints. I use it on my hands and especially cuticles, which are prone to dryness. I don't like using it as a lipbalm 'cos of the smell - too strong and smells almost clinical to me, but as far as healing dry skin, this is perfect! Good for making one's feet super soft too - I rub a little in at nigt, put on some loose cotton socks and voila! Soft feet in the morning.
Philosophy - Yummy Red and Peppermint Patty lip balm. Both balms are slightly glossy and seem to enhance my natural lip colour, rather than coat it with another. The balms are also very moisturising, particularly the yummy red. The girls at work always try and steal this one off me when I have it with me!
Smith's Rosebud salve - this is my favourite. Wish it came in a stick, 'cos I'm a bit of a hygiene freak, but love it all the same. I use it on everything - lips, under eyes if I run out of eye cream, on cuts/bruises, mozzie bites...just about everything. The consistency isn't sticky or too thick and gives the perfect amount of gloss to lips.
Lip Fusion XL - this is supposed to have a plumping effect but on me it just tingles and makes my lips quite red. I use it over a touch of lipstick to give a high gloss finish and a tingly sensation. Don't think I'd purchase it again (the price - $95! I'm ashamed to think about it) but if you like a strong tingly feeling, this one does the job.
I also like Juicy Tubes for the colour and gloss but agree with the others who have said they don't like the stickiness - my hair get caught it in. Yuck.

Oh I can't use the Paw Paw ointment, made my lips peel (LOVELY sight ;))
I just can't use most lipbalm, as they make my lips feel terrible and you have that "addicted" issue you ladies have mentioned. I can ONLY use Lipeze (well it's the only I can use out of the trillions I've tried). My lips can go days without and I don't have a problem plus it's SPF. Little or no taste and gives just enough sheen to look cute without slip-slidding off my face. And SO cheap.

I am a member of a cooking forum and someone in NYC mentioned they loved this peppermint lip balm. I said it sounded good and so she sent me a tube. It is sooo nice. I like to lick a little bit off as it freshens the mouth.
Found the website (http://www.bigelowchemists.com/product_info.php/cPath/2_118/products_id/2967). Why are the best finds impossible to get???
Hey Adore team -- any chance of importing? :sunnies:

Ooooh! You will be happy to learn that there is a product here with peppermint in it. It is called Oralife and the tube is identical to the Bigelow one! You get it from chemists.

I must say I am really looking forward to trying out the Shizen range now available on Adore Beauty. I am particularly keen to try the lip oil. It sounds amazing.
Also has anyone tried the Palmers Chocolate and Peppermint Lip butter before? It sounds great.
At the moment I am loving my Propeline Lip Aid with Rose and Olive oil. It is very moisturising and gives just a hint of colour.

I'm v.keen to try Shizen too, only problem is that I can't decide which one! Thinking about the lip tint in 'pinkie' on Kate's recommendation.
I still like the paw paw ointment though; always have a tube in my bag. And Smith's Rosebud Salve; the Minted Rose is really rocking my world.

The Blistex products have sunscreen in them as well (important!). A really moisturising one is Blistex Complete Moisure (comes in a blue tube) -- feels SO nourishing and soothing!
