Come one come all! :chuckle:

I heard somewhere that "getting fit/losing weight" is the number 1 NY resolution. Are there any gals out there who love working out? If so, what do you do? Do you go to the gym everyday? Or are you content with going for a daily walk?

I've never been overweight, but let myself go a little bit in the last 2 years. I always buy the Women's Fitness & Health mag for inspiration and recently found a 12 week body blitz programme to use. I just purchased myself an Elliptical and dumbells (we don't have a gym in this town). Unfortunately the most common resolution is also my own for 2007. This time I'm making it happen.

I've been going to the gym for a few years but was starting to feel like I wasn't getting anywhere any more, so started with a personal trainer twice a week in about August last year. Best thing I ever did! Learnt so much more about quality rather than quantity exercise.

PT's are so worth it if you can afford them. I really need that person behind me poking a finger in my back saying "come on a little further".

i usually just run and walk, i need to take my dog anyway so i try and exercise myself at the same time

last summer i was in a routine of running 3 times a week and i really noticed a difference in my bum and legs, not that im overweight at all but muscle tome wise it was great.

so im just trying to get the routine happening again.

ohh i soooo know what you mean!

I was using a trainer at my local gym for the last 8 months or so but decided just before christmas that I wouldn't continue for the moment.. a friend told me about the Tony Ferguson plan and I tried that instead... lost about 6kg in about 6 weeks and that was more than my personal trainer managed over months and months!

Anyway, I want to lose another 5-6kg and I'm still doing the Tony Ferguson plan but also haven't stopped going to the gym either. I've actually increased my workouts and try for 2 RPM classes a week as well as another cardio session and at least one weights session. The weights was what my trainer used to do with me, so even though I wouldn't push myself as hard, I now have the correct technigue and not afraid to use the scary looking ones :spin:

Good thread. I try to walk everyday, do some weights at home and a little yoga.
Catch stairs whenever possible and thats about it. I know I should do more, but I dislike gyms, not the actual exercise, but exercising in public. When I am on holidays I like to swim or hike.

I have mixed feelings on excercise, some days i love it and can't wait but others i absolutely detest it, but still go.

I don't like going to gyms either because i like to do what i want when i want to, so i walk 45mins everyday after work. I need to make it a full hour but when its so hot its extremely hard to go much further. I'm slowly starting to jog a little when i'm walking, but i'm very self consous (sorry spell) because i live in a small town and i know every one qnd they know me.
I recentlly purchased an MP3 player, OMG th best thing i ever did. I walk with it on and don't even realise how far i have actually gone.

I've been doing the Jenny Craig program and its really good but sometime i remember i'm on a diet and then i miss out on a lot of stuff with my friends and family. Dinners out, drinking, morning tea, fancy lunch, thai take-out,its my own fault i can't control myself when i'm not on the program i just need to find my motivation again.

Todays goal: Starting jogging again.

I hate gyms too. I feel too self concious, and I KNOW nobody is looking at me but I still don't feel comfortable. I live in a small town too and I hate to run around the streets, its so much easier to do in the city when you don't know anyone in the area.... so I stick to the back streets and the bush tracks!

Congrats nattieb thats a huge achievement!

Me too, i only jog on bush tracks and in quiet streets that i know are desserted. I'm forever looking over my shoulder though when i job because i don't want anyone seeing be from behind especially when my big booty is bouncing up and down. lol

I'm a fitness lover. I don't have a set program but read my body in accordance with my work schedule. I also don't like attending gyms based on hygiene, privacy and security. I have gradually installed a gym at home which is fabulous as there isn't any time constraints on when you can exercise. I walk 30mins each day on the treadmill, run 10kms 3 times a week around the tan & yarra track, 4 times a week I use free weights and the rower gets a workout a few times a week. Historically I was a triathalon junkie but have put my bathers and bicycle out to pasture. If I feel I need motivation or a boost, I have a PT that I go to for an 8 week reboot. :music:

At the moment, I play a game of netball once a week. I used to play netball, basketball, walk an hour a day and swim occasionally but my life has changed so much recently that I don't feel any motivation. I never put on weight so the only reason I would exercise is for fitness and as a mood elevator. I really need to get back into it!

Thanks! I'm pretty proud of myself too... I guess I'm quite lucky in that being so tall I tend to carry any extra weight pretty well, but it feels so good to be able to go down a dress size and not feel so self concious all the time.

I know what you mean about running around the streets.. that's why I hit the gym, at least everyone is there with the same goal in mind

I try to walk as much as I can. I try and make a point of walking home from the station when I get home from work, but sometimes it's the last thing I wanna do ! I haver to admit that I am kinda lazy and I joined a gym in the city to go in my lunch hour at work, but that never happened !

My dog Lucy has soooo much energy, so I try and take her for a walk most days for 45mins to an hour. Thats as probably as much exercise I do. I also try and keep my diet under control, and very rarley have junk food or take-away, and I try to snack on fruit or almonds throughout the day at work.

Wow, really admire you guys. Congrats nattieb, fab result!

I'm dreadful when it comes to fitness. I'm the sporting disappointment of our family. I was once very good at gymnastics but hit 13 and lost all coordination. So you can imagine me attempting the elliptical machine at the gym. Not a pretty sight. But I know I can't put it off forever, particularly with a family history of heart disease. So I'm going to start walking to and from work (about 20 mins each way) and gradually build up to a light jog around the lake a few times a week. This of course means special playlists for the Pod and new running outfits, so should ease the pain a little :) . For myself, not for those around me of course (the sweating and jiggling - ouch, my eyes!)

i think its great to hear those who are motivated and can actually take the time to exercise. As for me my goshh i would have to be one of the laziest person. :chuckle:

The only exercise i get is from shopping! but i sure do some hardcore shopping for hrs on end.......i like to justify it by saying that i get a good workout. lol

Im also lucky that i am natually thin and i dont gain weight but i think i need to consider working out as i get older until then i'll enjoy my laziness

Bubbles me too, we're lucky - but watch out, that fast metabolism is gonna slow down sometime! My dietician told me you have to be really careful not to take it for granted - and to eat healthily as much as possible.

I suggest don't look at it as excercise, look at it as something to do to clear your head and get out of the house. I think if your looking for motivation you should really think about what you want to achieve and set goals so when you get 1 goal done your motivated to go further. Then you feel good about yourself.

Set a goal like i'm going to walk to end of the street but i'll run from the end of the street the next lamp post, things like that get you motivated to veat yourself.

Has anyone heard of or does anyone go to a Curves Fitness Centre? A new one has opened up in my local area and I am thinking of joining. From what I know, they specialise in 30min workouts for women of all fitness levels. This is all the info. I know, so I would love to hear from anyone who knows more about Curves.

Thanks ! :glee:

I think its a good idea for those starting out with gyms & fitness and who might need a bit of guidence. The 'ladies only' concept is also reassuring to most, however I personally don't like the idea of the 30min routine. I'm the sort of person who likes to get in there and do my own thing. I'd sort of just be getting into it before they ask me to get off and move onto the next machine! :chuckle:

Give it a go though, they must be able to let you in for a few sessions without buying a membership. If you don't like it you can try something else!

I was thinking along those lines aswell. As in only having a restricted time on each machine etc. I may go check it out today after work, see what they have to offer. Im partly only interested because it would be so convenient as its close to home !

Helloooo all. Thought I might hunt this thread down and give an update!

I have lost 3kgs to date and a few centimetres from hips and waist. I want to drop 7 more kgs! Goal date is by beginning of October for my birthday - but likely to happen sooner.

Have kept up going to the gym 3 to 4 times a week and I am really enjoying it! I have also cut out most of the rubbish I eat, no take away any more (except for the odd Grill'd healthy burger or something) and the occassional treat like hot cross buns! Yummmmeeeeee.

The occasional treat can be good for you - helps you stay on track. Your diet has to be realistic.

I'm so with you Ozcat. The only things I can bring myself to do regularly are Yoga, riding my bike (the stationary kind, any other form woiuld just be too dangerous) and walking occasionally. And when I say regularly I mean once or twice a week... okay, once or twice a fortnight.

Has your gym done up a weights training program for you? Most gyms will do this as part of your membership.

I've come back from my break feeling rather pleased with myself. Firstly I went to Jeans West to buy some more jeans for work and I was pleasantly surprised I've gone down to size 10! Yay. Secondly mum and I went for early morning runs (about an hour long) and I must have been fitter than I first though because it was no struggle at all (compared to my efforts at Xmas) and I even managed the big hill at the end!

So I think I'm on the right track, and I hope to keep up the good work :)

Nothing like changing room mirrors to make you feel fat and disgusting!! But the way my demented psyche works, I look at myself and go "ugh, disgusting" and then go and get some ice-cream to make myself feel better!!! So I definitely would NOT be the skinniest person ever if I had those mirrors! Conversely, if I happen to look good in a changing room mirror and especially if I look bloody good in whatever I am trying on, I totally don't want to eat any junk at all!
