My boy has just started bringing home Avon catalogues for me from someone at his office, god love him. I used to get a few Avon things ages ago but found the quality was very inconsistant, some products were great while others went straight in the bin. They have excellent specials which always sucks me in but I hesitate to buy products I can't read the ingrediants list on.

Does anyone use Avon?
What would you reccommend?

I have also bought a lot of Avon producst over the years and found that they are inconsistent with quality like you said Medusa. I only really purchase things that are on sale and things that don't always have to be of a high quality.

I don't buy any Avon make-up because i find becasue i'm pale it always makes me look cheap. But they have really nice bath & shower gels and bubble baths. I got 3 bath gels for $10 and they smell so good and give nice lather aswell. I also love this 2 in 1 shampoo in a yellow bottle (sorry can't think of the name) it might have aloe vera in it not sure, its good when you are in a hurry. Smells absolutely amazing as well.

They have a fragrance i love aswell, i think its called "Night Magic" or somthing similar and it is musk. I love musk!!! Anyway i used the body spray and bath gel and its just the right about of fragrance. I don't use the edt because it does smell a little cheap but in the shower gels its perfect.

Have not used the skin care but have had bits of their make up in the past. Their new eye cream looks impressive, the one with the gel and cream components. Apparently their clinical line is effective and on some sort of US best product list. Absolutely huge there and they have a young off-shoot called Mark which encourages college students to make money while in college!! Used to like all their Christmas stuff, very cute and cheap. Easy to sucked in though. Would their website have a list of ingredients?

I thought ingredients lists were compulsory?!?

I am on the Avon website researching some products. You can access the ingrediants lists there. I think it is important in ensuring you are getting a quality product not full of irritants of fillers.
The Anew range seems to be Glycerin based. Some products have an exorborant number of ingrediants. Do we need 2 million things in an eye cream? I even found one that had Lettuce extract?? Never heard of that one before, I think they must be having us on.

I use Avon sometimes, usually when I'm at Mum's because she gets the catalogues all the time. It's mainly the shower gels that suck me in, and they have awesome specials sometimes.
As far as makeup goes I have purchased some. I have a waterproof mascara, eyeliner and concealer. I can't really afford the expensive brands sometimes - and I don't wear a lot of makeup usually - so I cant really compare. I'm quite happy with them - they do the job!

Girls,

I've had used some of the Avon products with great results, mainly eye liners and make-up removers. However, I have tried several of their foundations and just don't like them. The darker colours have the must unbelievable, unflattering orange tones I've ever seen. And the consistency is like muddy river water. Yuk!

But, like the previous posters have stated, the bath products are sensational and practically priced. And the sunscreen and bug repellant are great.

My mum has been ordering Avon for a while now, and can't help myself in ordering something from each cataloge. I find there mascaras are quite good, and body products. The only thing that I find a bit annoying is when ordering a lipstick, the colour is never the same to what is in the brochure. I have found a few good lip glosses (coloured ones), powders and foundations over time. At least in makeup their not too expensive so not much of a loss if I dont find it suits my needs. Lets not also forget, you can always send the product back if it doesnt satisfy you! I have also heard their skincare is also good. And I love the Always perfume~

The only thing I use from Avon is their roll on deoderant called Tranquil Moments. I get a supply of it to last me 12 months every Christmas from a relative (nanna type). It's supposedly aromatherapy deoderant. Does the trick and saves me buying it! Lol!

I use a few Avon products, but don't buy them regularly, ones I would reccommend are:

Moisture Therapy hand cream - magic on winter dry hands
Pink lid, white tube(not sure of its name) aluminium free 100ml deodorant - lasts forever
Also been using their anew dermabrasion scrub- every week to 10 days or whenever I remember (got it as a gift) but it is great.

Dont use their makeup.

The one thing that I use and love from Avon is there Luxury Eye Liner in Dark Brown. It is so beautiful and silky and sharpens easily. For it being a cheapie, it's definitely good quality. I've heard that their bust and cellulite creams are good too.

OK I got my order & naturally ordered too much, but those dang specials suck me in everytime! Here's what I got:

Parrafin hand & foot treatment
liquid eyeliner pen - I don't why I ordered this? I already have a Loreal one  Works the same.
Anew Clearly C 10% Vit C serum - this one is worrying me, it reeks of alcohol so much so that it actually made me cough when I applied it. Should I stop using it? It is also in a clear bottle, so I am keeping it in the box to prevent oxidization. My skin feels smoother & plumper after I have applied it but I suspect this may be due to the Proplene Glycol content.
Anew Transforming Lift eye cream - feels good, no results yet. As I got it pretty cheap with the C serum for $40, I am going to use it on my neck too.
Anew smoother Facial Mask - contains clay & glycolic acid, haven't used yet.
Radiant Lift liquid eyeshadow - comes in lipgloss tube type packaging. Haven't worn it yet but when I tested it on my hand it looked like a thick foundation (I got the taupey colour). Not sure.
Daily Multi Benefit Lotion - cost only $5 & ingrediants looks identical to Proactive's Repairing Lotion. For my boy.
Cleansing Cream Scrub - also for the boy, was only $2!

Some things I haven't used yet but will report back with reviews.

Medusa, the mask is surprisingly good but keep an eye on the vitamin c serum. I had one of these years ago. Questionable ingredients as you say and packing in a clear bottle means that it turns a brown colour too quickly when it oxidises. Keep it in a cupboard or drawer. I am afraid I tossed mine!

Medusa, is the Daily Multi Benefit Lotion for acne prone skin, and is it for males or is it unisex? I'd love to purchase the Repairing Lotion again on it's own, but if this is very similar, I might try that

Medusa
13-02-2007, 09:06 PM
Yes the Daily Benefit is for problem skin, they have a whole range. It is unisex in a white bottle with blue & white writing. View it on their website. My daughter is using the Proactive gear & the Avon range looks to be its copy but much cheaper. It is a white lotion that you apply before your moisturiser.

Used the Anew Dramatic Smoother Facial Mask last night & was very impressed. :clapping: My skin was very smooth & soft when I removed it. It contains Kaolin (clay) & Glycolic Acid. I only paid $10 for it! That was a special price not sure what the full price is?
So if you get Avon catalogues & it is on special, give this one a go.

I have never used any skincare from Avon before but I have noticed recently it has started to be quite heavily advertised in glossy magazines etc. The dual eye cream Anew thingy is getting some really positive feedback. Anyone love any skin care product from Avon?

When I was a little girl my mum used to buy me this little kiddy makeup from Avon Called Chery blossom or something. It smelled so sweet and the packaging was really cute. If they still had it I would probably buy it again just for the cuteness factor!

Hi PCC,

Yes!!!! I remember those cherry blossom lip balms and peel off little girl nailpolishes, my mum used to buy those for me too!! Don't know if they still make them - if so I would buy them for my daughter to use in a few years (she is only 1 now).

I do use a few of the Avon skincare products, ones I would recommend are their Anew clinical micro exfoliant I use it once a week and the Clearskin double action cleanser - every night in the shower to remove all makeup.

I also swear by their hand cream for winter dryness - Moisture Therapy for extremely dry skin - this stuff coupled with cotton gloves at night repaired my hands a few winters ago and I have been addicted to it since.:chuckle: :waving: :)

I have a mascara too, and I agree its very good.

Lately I have also been using the Naturals shampoo and conditioner range. I can't remember the shampoo (macadamia and something), but the conditioner was avocado and rice milk. I quite like it for a cheapy! I love the smell as well.

Everytime the Avon catalogue comes around I cant resist buying stuff.

I bought some eyeliners and my eyes are very itchy by the end of the day when I use them.

My lips get really sore and itchy when i use the lip liners but some of the colors are great.

I made some wrong color choices for the lipsticks but the clear lip one is great!Forgot the name.

My husband hated the purfumes I chose.

I got a bronzer that I quite like.

I bought some foot care products but havent used them yet.

I have the Dramatic Smoother mask.
It is excellent for such a cheapie, I got mine for $9. It contains clay & glycolic so it is cleansing & exfoliating. Warning also contains alcohol. I believe it is similar to the Alpha H one, but I haven't tried that. It goes on like a mud mask but doesn't dry real hard, only takes 10min.
Can't go wrong for the price.

sorry i have been away, i use both of these when i run out of my Alpha h liquid gold & the glycolic mask .
u can get both the avon items on special if u keep your eyes peeled & i personally would only buy them at a reduced price & only if i couldn't afford the alpha h for a couple of weeks. they aren't bad quality but i wouldn't pay full price & they aren't close to alpha h

I'm glad I found this thread because a friend has started selling Avon and I've been pouring over the catalogues. I'm a catalog sucker.. she's going to get me samples of all the perfumes though I warned her I'm a perfume snob and the chance of my buying them is slim. I think I wil get some bath gels and that's about it.. I'm wary of the lipsticks not being the same colour. Oh and the lip plumper thing, might get that. I've tried another brand of it, an expensive one and it really does work if you don't mind your lips BURNING for ages.. the price of plump lips!

Heck, I love getting deliveries of stuff, I will probably have a fun impulse buy.

My mum used to get Avon quite a bit when we were little -- I remember the 'Avon Lady' coming around and hauling her big basket of products up the stairs! She used to give my sister and I little samples of lipsticks and perfumes...

Mum used to get the Skin So Soft bath products (bubbles, oils etc) and the Clearskin II (?) range of face products for us, and the occasional perfume. I remember getting one of their facial cleansers that came with a little round brush with a handle to apply it -- it actually did wonders for my skin at the time (I was a young teenager then)!

A good rep should get them to you early enough to browse. The catalogues should also have the order deadline and approx. delivery date on the back, as well as the reps contact details.
Also you can order things from the previous catalogue too - in case you missed out or is not in the next catalogue.

Just flicking through the latest Avon catalogue, and see that they have done a collaboration with Cynthia Rowley! There's a perfume which is in THE cutest white ceramic-looking bottle with polka dots on it, and a small makeup line. The packaging is so cute - black with colourful flowers, not at all Avon-looking. It's all gorgeous!

I could live without the makeup (it's beautiful but all plummy/violet colours, not really my bag) but I reeeaally want the perfume!

Pic of the bottle (along with another cute one!) http://www.mimifroufrou.com/scentedsalamander/2008/03/avon_cynthia_rowley_flower_pet.html

Rosie
24-03-2008, 01:54 PM
Yeah, but it was out in the States before here, I remember I liked the packaging.......

Here's what Medina said about it:

It smells so nice and so pretty (it doesn't have the usual alcohol-y scent in the beginning like most scents tend to have)! I definitely need to purchase this in the full-size bottle ...I *love* it!

The notes in it are: verbena, bergamot, juicy red currant, cheery pink honeysuckle, neroli, mugue, white musk, heliotrope, and amber!

The packaging that it came attached to has a very cute (and true) quote from Cynthia: "Whether it's the first thing you put on, the last thing you put on or the only thing you put on, fragrance makes you feel like something exciting is going to happen".

I wanted a sniff when she told me that - and now it's here!! :penguin: We have similar issues wiht a lot of fragrances, the alcohol-y note she mentions, so when something works for one of us, we tell the other pronto).

Was released in the US around August/September last year I think.
