Has anyone had any luck with at-home facial peels? I've used a Philosophy one and it was ok but would like to try something else. Any suggestions/recommendations?

Hi there!

There are quite a few available, including grainy ones, AHA ones and like the Dermanew, battery powered pads that rub crysals into your skin.

The one I am using at the moment is from the Neo Strata range. It is called Citriate Treatment System. Has 20AHA so only recommended for non-sensitive skin. They are impregnated pads that you rub over a clean skin and leave on for three hours (I am cheeky and leave mine longer!). You then cleanse and rinse, rinse, rinse! They have a little sachet accompanying them called Bionic Cream which you apply afterwards. Some chemists have them or you could ask them to order for you.

Check out what other forum users have to say before you make your decision!:)

Pinkcupcake would love one of those electric thingies that put on the crystals but I would probably peel and peel and peel some more until there was no skin left on my face!:redcheeks: !!

Wow, sounds great! Is it hard to get?

The Dermanew can be purchased from some chemists and probably Myer or small electrical outlet.

The have different shaped pads (apparantly the triangular one is for around the nose area!) and you apply some of the crystals to your forehead, cheeks, nose and chin and switch on and rub the foam pads in a circular motion over your face. The cream contains aluminium crystals and they refer to their process as microdermabrasion. Certainly not the same results as if you went to a clinic to have one, but mild enough for most skin types to use (with care!).

Forgot about another popular one that is supposed to be really effective and its amongst Adore's range - the Freeze 24/7 Ice Crystals. Take a look!

If you want a decent home kit try the MD formuations 'my personal peel' http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewItem.asp?idproduct=8608

Home kits are no where near the strength of professional treatments. Expect a mild exfoliation and a fresh feeling, but these kits won't treat lines, pigmentation and acne in the same way that salon treatments do.

info on professional peels here !: http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/askallison_peels.asp

hope that helps gals....

If you want personal skin advice ever just send me a post in the ask allison section!

I had my first salon peel a couple of weeks ago - a 30% lactic acid (which is the "beginner" strength apparently). It tingled a little but wasn't uncomfortable, and I didn't get any peeling afterwards - just skin like glass!! I think they could become a bit addictive :ashamed:

The stronger ones are very good. I managed (not all that ethically!) to get a bottle of 50AHA from a cosmetic nurse. I can only tolerate it for about 3 mins before I need to get if OFF! but boy the results are great and like Kate, not to the peeling extent.

Just be careful ladies!:nerd:

Luisa Can you imagine me with a product like that. I would be in hospital with chemical burns! Pinkcupcake needs to stay away from the big guns considering how I overdosed on just a mild dose of aha's!:chuckle: :chuckle:

Yes, pinkcupcake, you will NOT be allowed anywhere near it! Tell you what, this is some mega serious peel though!

I've used the EmerginC glycolic/retinol peel which was part of a six week course and have to say that I really liked what it did. However not enough to repurchase????

My fave at the moment is Pevonia Enzymo-spherides peeling cream. The best thing about this is that it's a cream that is fool proof to apply and you only need to leave it on for TWO minutes. Yep - two mins and it works. My skin feels cleaner and smoother straight after. Great for the lazy ones.....like me.:redcheeks:

Hey girls!!,
I have a 50% Ultra ceuticals every 2 weeks every few months and just LUUURVE IT!! I have a little hand held fan which i useto soften the blow of the fumes. I can get bout 5 mins max out of it. Which is pushing it even on my floozy skin. My skin doesnt need any more.
Peels are great for zapping break outs and getting rid of all thse lumps and bumps under the skin (congestion) that we all hate as well as for pigmentation, scarring, lines and wriklettes, sun damage (especially chicken neck)
I would team any home-peel wth a pro one in salon to give super fantastic result. But never peel (either professionally or after a pro one using an at home one) with in 2 weeks, as it takes this long for your skin to recover. Just at home is fine eery week but follow the individual instructions.
You cant get a peel burn from at homes as they are soo diluted but i would never sleep with even the most diluted peel solution on my skin unless it states so.
Some peels (the ones that are alcohol based) go on and dry and thats when the action stops, then over the next few days some skin peeling maybe visable.
Then there are peels which go on and keep working. you have to wash these off (and wash them well) in professional peel cases this is just a matter of minutes. If it takes hours it must be a pretty low AHA% or a higher pH. If ou leave hese on they can give u whats refered to as a chemical burn because it keeps going till it is neutralised by washing it off.usually the pain would kick in before the full burn would ;)

Good luck girls!!
I'm a bit of a peel addict and just ADORE :chuckle: the Ultraceuticals professional in salon peels!! Try em for urself!!

Dermanew is excellent and has a new multi function application tool that can be used in the shower. It has two applicators attached, a brush for cleansing and a sponge pad for resurfacing.

PCC it has a built in 2 minute timer which prevents overuse.

Well, I was watching the Home Shopping Channel last night...

(ok before I go on I feel that I need to justify that statement! I never watch the HSC except for when they're featuring a product I've read about here on the forum!! Last night they had Alpha-H and I thought "ooooh, here's a chance to see the products I've heard so much about!". They use the products on models so you can see how they work etc. So I'm not a Home Shopping Channel loser, really I'm not! And I wouldn't buy off HSC if Adore had the same product.)

...and they featured an Alpha-H product which was at at-home Papaya and Pineapple Enzyme peel. It came in three separate little tubs and three little vials of Liquid Gold, and you pour the LG into the tub and then paint it onto your face. It looked fantastic!!! I don't think Adore has it though :(

Fusspot, I believe you are right. It was available more than a year ago but I understood that they discontinued the product or it was only available as a salon treatment. It has popped up again on their website. I have done a cut and paste, read on...

I'm intrigued by the p3, but the word 'peel' scares the life out of me..........

What are the possible side-effects of using this? My skin isn't exactly sensitive, more cranky.

fruit enzymes are quite mild and gentle. This would be fine as an exfoliating treatment on skins that don't tollerate too much glycolic.. nothing to be scared of:flames:
