View Full Version : Favourite fake tan?

As the official Adorebeauty Fake Tan Queen I thought it was appropriate that I start this one ;)
Currently I am loving Clarins instant tanning gel - mainly because it is really quick and easy to slap on, dries in about 2 minutes, doesn't stink (after the initial alcohol-y smell fades) and doesn't get all over the sheets.
What's your fave?

well it's not so much my fav tan but my fav pre tan product....
I do all the professional tanning at adore and my client and I love the smell of the pure fiji sugar scrub applied with a riffi mitt (both available at adore)..
I always do a full body exfoliation on clients prior to the tan application and the pure fiji coconut sugar scrub makes both the room and the client smell divine and makes sure the skin is well prepped and smoothe for a tan!

Fake tan scares the hell out of me! I have had so many disasters that I just can't go there anymore! I have tried to do it exactly by the instructions by shaving the day before, using a scrub, loading on the moisturiser, applying evenly and I still come out looking like I've rolled in a pig pen! I tried getting it done professionally to and I came home looking like I had been attacked with brown paint! My skin is very fair and I am very sun conscious so getting a natural tan isn't an option for me. I guess I am going to have to stay looking like I've lived in Antarctica for the past 6 years!:(

pinkcupcake, have you tried any of those body lotions with a bit of tan in them? Maybe they would give you that hint of colour without the pig-pen look?

I too am not a fake tan fan. When I do feel like I need a bit of colour I apply Chi Chi Solarium in a Bottle. As soon as it dries, it stays with you until you next shower and will not rub off on clothes or sheets. It has a slight sparkle and a delish chocolate scent. Do make sure that you use a disposable glove though because despite it not being a stain, is really difficult to remove from your hands. Good luck:)

I mentioned on the forum that I am hopeless with fake tan a few days ago and Kate suggested I try a lotion with a bit of tanner in it. I am quite fair skinned and often look pale. Can anyone recommend a lotion with tanner in it for me to try as I have no idea what I am even looking for!

I've tried a few:
Johnson's Holiday Skin - Colour is not bad but it does have a fake-tan smell.
Dove (I forget the exact name of it but it's a pale yellow bottle - comes in 2 shades) - smells better than Johnson's but the colour gets a bit yellow after a while
Nivea Summer Beauty - best one I have tried so far. A bit runnier than the other two so faster to apply, and a nice natural colour. My partner says he can smell fake tan on me at the end of the day but I can't smell it.
I've also heard good things about Garnier Body Summer but haven't tried it yet.
Clarins is also bringing one out any day now, but haven't tried that yet either.
What's with fake tans and them smelling of urine?! I love the tan my beauty therapist does on me, and it's always so even, but I hate the smell.
The first day is nearly unbearable, but it's gets better after that.
I don;t trust myself to do my own fake tanning, the only thing I'll do is a little bit of colour on my face.

I got the St Tropez mousse because it dries fast but damn it! It dries faster than I can put it on! You should see me in application mode, its very funny. I have to wear gloves which I feel doesn't massage the lotion in as well as my bare hands would.
I have the funniest Spray on Tan story you have ever heard. Does anyone want to hear it?

OK here goes, We were going on a holiday to Fiji & me being very pale needs a tan to be in a cossie or I just glow.
I booked in for my first spray tan @ a salon recommended by my sister the day before we are due to fly out. I have done all the prep work, scrub, no creme or deoderant, no bra, loose clothes but it seems that I forgot just on thing. I get to the salon & the girl tells me to strip down to my knickers & stand in the cubicle. What do you mean knickers? I'm not wearing any. :redcheeks: I mean I didn't want any tan lines and I wouldn't wear them home for fear of smudging the tan, so why wear them there? The poor girl was horrified & refused to do it so I had to go out, purchase some knickers & come back again. Only thing was there were not many shops nearby. I ran into Coles but they only sold mens underwear? I came back out onto the street thinking thats it, I'll have to go home. I had no other time to get a tan elsewhere.
Then I saw it, a flashing neon sign like a light from heaven, only I'm sure they don't have those signs in Heaven. Yes it was a sex shop. I sighed & off I trotted down the back alley skirt blowing in the breeze with no knickers on. Now I have been in sex shops before but this one looked like Video Ezy. It was lit up like a supermarket, painted fluro orange, movies lined the outside walls and in the middle was nothing but a single rack of "clothing". The men were all staring at me as I pretended to act as though I was in an ordinary clothes store. I eventually found something that had a crotch in it, paid for it & ran back to the salon. FYI: it was a black g-string with a metal thing at the back with gemstones on it, ala Kimmy (Kath&Kim).
So the spraying commenced as did the usual banter between client & thearapist. I was telling her what I hard time I had finding something (hoping to pass on some guilt and let common sense prevail). Then whilst describing the sex shop to her, she commented how much she liked the g-string I bought & how that was her favourite sex shop!!!
Yes I got those ridiculous looking tan lines.
So there you go. I haven't had another spray since but what is the protocol there? Surely nude is the way to go. Can anyone recommend a place in Sydney that does nudie smudie sprays?

Oh Medusa that is hilarious!! Allison and I are here at work reading it and cackling to each other :)
I can't believe the girl wouldn't spray you in the nude?! That is really bizarre. She must not have been a beauty therapist, otherwise how on earth would she cope with doing Brazilian waxing?! :p

Hi, I have been using the St Tropez mousse fake tan which I find goes on quickly (and I can see where!) and doesn't go orange/yellow but a nice natural tan.
However, I've just started using the DermaDoctor KP Duty cream (only a week but already seeing fantastic improvements!) on my chicken skin arms - and am a little worried about slathering on the fake tan.
Has anyone tried a fake tan while using this cream? I have a feeling it won't work as the KP Duty is AHA (I think!). Any help would be great - I don't want to look horrible!! Thanks!

Hey nattieb,
You'll be fine to use your fake tan with KP Duty :) in fact it should go on even better than usual as your skin will be smoother and more hydrated! I'd suggest using your KP Duty in the morning then applying your St Tropez at night.

Well I have asked at a couple of beauty salons & they have all said that that you need to wear something be it your own knickers or that tricky paper string of a thing. I was really happy with the tan, I've never looked so healthy! I don't get how they can do Brazilians with their face so close to your bits but they won't stand a metre away with a spraygun??
Medusa I loved your story!!! :encore:
My beauty therapist does nudie tans. She actually told me I should take my knickers off coz the line was awful! The only thing I like about keeping them on is that you can see the colour difference the tan makes.

Medusa I am giggling here in my office, and people are looking at me like I'm crazy!!! Hilarious!
I've never had a spray tan, but just assumed you would go nude. I think your story has saved some embarassment for others!!
As for my favourite fake tan- I bought the Fake Bake pack from Adore (ordered friday, delivered monday- and I live in the sticks! Great work guys!! :)) and I am love love loving my tan. I have fair skin and while I do tan, time in the sun with sunscreen on just results in my face having about a million freckles. I am a former solarium fan (I know, I know :shakehead: ), but I think the Fake Bake tan looks just as good- and as an added bonus, it won't give me cancer!! I have been telling all my friends how fantastic it is :D

Hey Kate (or anyone else), can you recommend a trusty fake tan for one's face?
I am always scared to use the same one as I use for my body and when I do, I find them either too drying or greasy or worse too dark!
Oh and I got the Garnier Gloss Bronzer today. Its a fake tan with a bronzer and shimmer effect $12 I think? Its good, it only smelt when I applied it and has a natural look. I'll need to build the tan over the next couple of days as I am very pale. Let you know how it goes.

Despite the hot weather here in Melbourne, I havent bared much of late! I wore some cute cropped pants today and got out my trusty Chi Chi Solarium in a bottle! I LOVE THIS PRODUCT! I just prefer to apply a tint when I feel like it with the convenience of a body lotion. This one smells delicious and gives a gorgeous sparkly sheen which I like when I go out. Best of all, it dries in seconds and will not come off (including on sheets) until you wash it off with soap! :fish:

Very easy to apply, you just wipe it over with a cotton pad and then put your normal moisturiser over the top.

I thought of you today Pinkcupcake when I was in Napolean testing their self tan. It is scented with pomengrate. It doesn't have that stinky tan smell at all, in fact I couldn't stop smelling my arm all afternoon! I can't comment on the colour though as the girl put moisturiser on me first (?) so the tan hasn't really appeared.
Medusa

Correction - It was the body lotion that smelt nice. Napolean do a body wash & lotion pack for $35 scentred with Fig & Pomegrante. The tan smelt nice too.
Update - The Garnier Gloss Bronzer is going well. Good if you want a bit of sparkle but just apply it lightly. If you rub it in too hard the bronzer starts to clump. It does have a smell but its not really that stinky tan smell.

If you are such a scaredy cat, why don't you just apply the tan to an area that you don't see everyday, like your midsection for example. Remember those creams are very subtle, so you might not see the colour on first application. You need to build it up.

Has anyone tried this brand?

My friend actually said the Dove one is really good - I think I will try it. I attempted to fake tan with the Ultraceuticals tanner last night - I am really crap but thought MAYBE THIS TIME I will get it right! I had a bath, shaved, exfoliated, tanned - and woke up this morning looking ok, but a little streaky on my feet and up a bit of one leg. Which of course I didn't notice til I left my apartment for work and was in teh sunshine! Will be getting out the tea tree oil when I get home... why do I bother??!
Also, I think the girl in the Nutrogena ad looks REALLY orange!! I saw the ad and went... eeeewwwww!!!!!

Thanks again :waving:
I've just starting using Dove Summer Glow for light skin and I'm pretty pleased. It doesn't smell bad at all and I think the colour is pretty natural. In fact I think it's pretty much exactly the same colour as my very slightly tanned arms. I only have two hardly noticeable streaks, one on top of my foot and a tiny one on my thigh, where I had dry skin patches.
On my pale skin I could really notice the difference immediately which was nice.

I could not live withoutut self-tan. I think people who say it goes orange or streaky have just used the wrong product or not prepped right maybe?

I've had luck with the St Tropez range too, it's great that you can mix it with the body moisturiser if you want to tone it down a bit. Of the body moisturisers Dove Summer Glow has been great. I'd like to try the Neutrogena one, has anyone used it?
Medusa after recovering from my hysterics at your spray tan story I had to add my own. I went for the faux glow with a couple of girlfriends a little while back. The only appointment we could get was 10pm so I was understandably concerned that the spraying chick might be a bit tired (it was wedding season after all).
I had exfoliated within an inch of my life and was wearing the appropriate mini-g. I was feeling pretty vulnerable standing with my arms out like a scarecrow and butt in full view when she told me I had "booty." I wasn't quite sure whether to be flattered or indignant. Spray chick then proceeded to spray said booty but, perhaps in a moment of exhaustion, missed a critical area. The next morning as I was admiringly checking out my back view I realised in horror that I had the dreaded "smilies". That's when you have a white patch where your butt meets your leg. In the shape of a smile. Goodbye bikini dreams *sniff* how I shall miss you!
The moral to this story is: leave your dignity at the door and make sure your booty gets back! :) (beware this shape!)

I loved the spray tan but I just haven't done it again. Not because of my experience but I just couldn't stand that whole "looked like I'd rolled in filth" look. What is with that? Oh and the stink! I couldn't bear to sleep with myself! :vomit:
I've just finished my St Tropez & although I loved the colour, I just hated applying it with gloves (white hands). My skin also felt dry when I'd applied it.
Has anyone tried the Fake Bake that Adore sells?

I really like Tan Towels for quick no fuss tanning. As it works on your skins PH the colour is uniquely yours and they do not stain clothes, sheets etc and are individually wrapped so can be carried in handbag.
My other favourite is Sun Laboratories foam. Great colour that lasts and lasts.
St Tropez foam is good but a bit too green for me and messy. :spin:

The tan is called Vani-t liquid sun, ive been getting tans for 2 years now but tried this one last year and its the best by far, really great colour . I get it done at a ladys house ( she has a tanning room) who lives near me and does mobile as well so can come to me which is handy.... and ive had the same one done at a salon near my work. Im in Adelaide.
Hey Gold Aussie Girl. I'm a spray tan therapist and started off using Fantasy Tan. I then switched to Bonza Bronze about 3 years ago, following by Liquid Sun 2 years ago. I have recently switched to using Oztan. I received a sample of it about 4 weeks ago and all my clients prefer it to Liquid Sun. I do too. The main difference they are noticing is the perfect fade, longevitity of colour, lack of "DHA" processing smell and no tackiness or stickiness. I don't think there are many salons in Adelaide using it yet but I'd keep an eye out for it. It is "spectacular".....:worship:

Am more than happy to assist with any advice where I can and no doubt will learn some new things as well. Believe me I have pretty much tried every spray tan out there (and a few rub on ones as well) and have been and seen all shades of yellow, orange, reddy/purple, grey and even green not to mentioned lizard skin galore, spray tans that don't tan and ones that you can't get off no matter how much you scrub and have hidden for days on end because it looked like I had some strange tropical skin disease :shakehead: !!!
I have tried moisturisers, body washes, exfoliants, tan extenders and sunblocks galore on spray tans and have used many clients and friends as "crash test dummies" over the years - poor things
I bought Palmer's moituriser with tan the other day at priceline. I really like the colour and it really doesn't have as bad a "tan" smell as the others.
It's good value for money too, and it's super hydrating unlike some of the others.

I got the St Tropez mousse because it dries fast but damn it! It dries faster than I can put it on! You should see me in application mode, its very funny. I have to wear gloves which I feel doesn't massage the lotion in as well as my bare hands would.
I bought the Fake Bake Mousse and Skin Smoothie from Adore about 12 or so months ago, and I've only just been brave enough to use it. My application sounded very similar to your experience Medusa! It dried so fast it was unbelievable!! I was freaking out trying to get it as even as possible. I got the Fake Bake because I was attracted to the fact it was meant to be good for fairer skinned people.

Why do fake tanners (for the face) say: 'avoid the hairline and eyebrows'? Wouldn't you end up with a tan line around that area, a bit like the 'ol foundation on the jawline??
GoldAussieGirl

^ thats why i get spray tans, so much easier. I have had some bad self tan disasters. :(
I would say that the avoiding hair thing would be for fair haired people as it might stain or something. I get my face sprayed when i get a spray tan and have no probs, just gives me a nice healthy glow!

I think this is a caution for fair haired people as it can colour your hair and eyebrows too. No, you dont want a tide mark around that area, but be sure to swab/sponge those areas after application.

I cant stop raving about Fake Bake This is the second thread ive posted it on!!
It's awesome. I'm casper white and it's soo natural. No orange around here!!
Whilst it looked soooo dark when it first went on with just one coat. I normally apply two but it looked heaps darker than others I've tried so i just stuck to one like the bottle said. I will apply another coat tonite to be a little darker. I love this tan to death:glee:
Has anyone done 2 coats in a row?? I normally leave an hour between coats
Kate your a fake bake guru whats your advice for the best results??

I used the Fake Bake on my face and it looks great. :encore:
I have also lused and oved the Ella Bache Great Tan for Face it's nice and light in texture and only has a little bit of a tint so you dont have to look like you've been mud wrestling till it sets :) I've used it straight under makeup for during the day and it didnt affect the out come at all and looked natural. I used it a couple of times to build up a good colour and the little tube lasted for ever ( over 6 months from memory using it religiously every week)
Despite their rep for having a few not so fav products Bache's tans really are "Great". (even the body one which I have also used on my face too)... but not as great as Fake Bake!! heehee:chuckle:
P.S there are 2 ket factors in streak free tans in general.
1. Use enough product
2. rub it in really well
oh and 1 more.... work one area at a time ie. lower legs then thighs etc. Instead of patting it all over your body and then rubbing it in. I find tinted tans leave a hand mark if you leave it too long before rubbing it in

Hey Jamie.
Fake Tans do turn light hair the colour of the tan.
I naturally blonde eyebrows and have them tinted normally but when it's been a while between tints I find face tan turns them a light brown and drags me thru :sunnies:
But if you have blonde hair on your head I would be really careful around your hairline. specially with Fake Bake or you'll suddenly have some nice fake bake re-growth.
I found I had heaps of time to work the Fake Bake cream in. I have used the St Tropez mousse before and it sounds to be the same as you have experience with the Fake Bake mousee Jamie. Must be the super-light-liquidy-foam-formula that soaks in really quickly. The cream isnt too heavy though. I stayed nakie and waited an hour to go to bed and didnt feel too sticky at all. I found the mousses had no stick factor tho.

I have always enjoyed using Tan Towels for a quick, stainless tan.
Tan Towels also have a tanning mist now that is a light milk style of spray that does not mist over the entire room. I spray into my hand than rub over my face and body. It dries in one minute, doesn't smell and washes from hand without staining. Within the hour the colour developes and is a healthy golden brown. Never stains clothing or sheets as it is an enzyme that works on the acid in your skin only.
My favourite fake tan would be the Neutrogena brand.
I've also used Johnsons Summer Skin.
Favourite sunscreen is from Jurlique - works the best!
And I use Olay daily facial mosituriser spf 15+ but sometimes use it on my body.
Great thread everyone! :) :hearts:

I used L'Oreal Sublime Bronze transluscent tanning gel this afternoon. It was super-easy to apply (a big deal for me as I find some of them hard to smooth over evenly), has a reasonably decent smell (another biggie as my little bro has no hesitation in telling me when my fake tan stinks, and I don't want to be a stinky person even if I'm at home), and sinks in fully in about an hour (although I think my skin doesn't soak things up as quickly as others because products always seem to sit on my skin before soaking in for way longer than they do with other people). It's been an hour and a half since I put it on and I can see quite a nice colour developing on my face (will update on the colour later on) but nothing on my arms or legs yet (maybe because they were darker to begin with). From memory I think this product was around the $20 mark from the supermarket.

I'm with you krissyk, the Palmers is my favourite too - But i HATE the smell :vomit:!! But yeah its the best one i've used as far as gradual tanners go - it gives a decent amount of colour quickly (in comparison with other graduals). I tend to steer away from full on fake tan lotions as I always end up with orange knees, and weird splotches on my wrists and between fingers lol... talk about foxy moron.
I'm too scared for face tanning, so I use Bloom's cheek tint in Bronze mixed with my moisturiser or foundation - it gives an excellent colour to an otherwise pastey face.

OMG i cant believe i havent read this until now :chuckle: :chuckle: I had to read it out loud to my boy as well!!! He also thought it was riduclous that she wouldnt spray you knickerless. :whipcrack:

Medusa I think of that story every time I walk past somewhere that does spray tans! I still can't believe she wouldn't suck it up and spray you all over!!
Well yesterday I gave Ultraceuticals Ultra Self Tan a whirl (courtesy of PCC - thanks girl!) on my face and arms. It is a lovely, light, slightly runny cream which is very easy to apply and blend. It sunk in in about half an hour and was comfortably dry within about an hour. It had no real smell, other than that sort of generic 'lotion' smell - definitely no bad fake tan odour, which was great. It felt lovely and quite moisturising on the skin, especially on my face which was in need of a bit of hydration after spending all day in aircon. The colour is a really lovely toasty brown. It's probably the most "natural" fake tan colour that I have used, because it's not really golden or yellowy - it's more like the colour that your skin would really go after a few days in the sun, ie brown with a slightly burnt look. Sounds bad but it isn't, it's like a proper tan colour. It's not too deep or dark either, but it gives a definite noticeable tan. I used it on top of an application of L'Oreal Sublime Bronze though, so on untanned skin it may be a different shade.
In all I will definitely use it again!

Well I have made a boo-boo. Two, actually. Two separate boo-boos, both relating to fake tan.
Boo-boo number one: I use an AHA body lotion on my upper arms for my KP. Me, being a no-brain retard, didn't stop to think that it might not be such a great idea to use it every day when I am fake tanning. Now I have white patches where the KP is and brown everywhere else!! Great!
Boo-boo number two: I have been using Clinique toner no 2, which contains alcohol and witch hazel. Yeah. Nuff said.
Do you think if I book in for a pro spray tan they should be able to even the blotchiness out a bit?? It's not too bad (the tan wasn't super-deep to begin with) but it is noticeable. I have put tanning moisturiser on the white bits in an effort to even them up myself but I'm thinking this could be a job for the pros!

It's true about practise making perfect. Fake tan is SO daunting and then when you start doing it you get better and more confident. Girls, start now so that when you have to get into your bikinis, you have the streak-free technique down!

I'm going through every single thing you just mentioned! I noticed today that I had slight yellowy bits around the edges of my nails :redcheeks: and yes, there are some little white bits around my feet and ankles that don't quite match the rest! But yeah I'm just giving them a good scrub each night and reapplying, trying every night to do a better application than the night before. Hopefully that evens them out over the course of a few days. I've been using the Nivea one for about two weeks, morning and night (under my sunscreen in the morning). While I thought it was giving me a reasonably warm golden glow, I saw myself in a photo yesterday and I looked pretty much as white as always, except for the places where I had applied bronzer. I think I'll keep using it though, if only to warm up my skin a little to provide a better base for when I apply proper fake tan.
Edit: It's really not very moisturising - I have oily skin and even my skin doesn't feel very nourished or moisturised by this product. I'd be inclined to put another moisturiser over the top if your skin is even slightly on the dry/deyhydrated side.

I desperately need to fake tan this weekend!!! My arms are all patchy and it looks like I have bad pigmentation because of my AHA lotion for my KP (which I had to give myself a hardcore course of, to keep the KP at bay). EEEK! Oh well. Nothing a humiliating hour in my undies can't fix.

I really love Ella Bache Great Tan for a great dark tan:chuckle:!! I have used the Fake Bake extreme and it was good but I needed more than one application to get a daaark tan and it says you have to wait till the next nght to apply the next coat. Why not use something like St Tropez foam or spray which is super light and soaks in straight away and just do a few coats straight away. that way you don't have to wait around to reapply.

OMG the stretch mark cover-up is one of my main motivators to tan! I have quite a few stretchmarks, I seem to develop them really easily unfortunately :( I can be quite self-conscious about them but the fake tan does cover them quite well!! Or at least makes them a bit less noticeable.

Which one do you use Charismatic?
I saw an article the other day about a tanning product that I used to love. It is called Guerlain Teint D'or. They have tried to discontinue it several times but there is always an outcry when they do. It is actually like a tinted water that you put on with cotton wool. It has a beautiful (non self tan!) smell and dries instantly. Used it on my legs. Only drawback was the glass bottle it used to come in - like a loaded gun in the bathroom!

LB, I use a few different products depending on my situation.
Tan Towel Spray is amazing. No smell at all. It sprays on clear and dries within 1-2 minutes. Doesn't stain clothes or bedding as the colour is created by contact with your skins enzymes. For a quick tan before work, I apply this all over my body and face. I then apply my normal makeup. Colour starts developing in 30 mins or so and continues for a few hours.
Alpha-H Colour Creator is a great tinted moisturiser style of tan for body and face. The colour is really golden, lasts for days and your skin feels fabulous. I love this product.
Sun Foaming Tan similar to St Tropez however this colour lasts longer and has less olive more golden.
St Tropez Mousse for a really deep tan.

Hi Bluemelon. :waving:
I have been using tan towel for over a year and just love it! :glee:
The towels are like large fabric tissues and are very strong and easy to apply. The product works on the enzymes within your skin to develop colour. This is fabulous as you never get any gross colour on your clothes, sheets, bathroom towels or bathroom floors etc.
My personal choice is the tan towel spray. It is just so convenient. All tan towel products are totally odourless and colourless. The product dries within minutes and progressively develops within 30 minutes and over 24 hours.
I am always running somewhere, so it is not unusual for me to shower, spray and run. By the time I reach my destination I look as though I am just back from holidays. How cool is that! :chuckle:
Yeah, I'm quite a fan of the old Tan Towel myself. It's one of the only 'full tan' products (as opposed to tanneriser) that I've ever really liked. Although it really freaks me out when the girls on TVSN do it so haphazardly! It's easy to use, but they would end up a streaky MESS and ultra brown after what they do on those shows! :chuckle:

I've always bought midrange-expensive ones, but the lotion I'm using now works best for me in terms of streaks - it is Johnson & Johnsons Holiday Skin Lotion, and best of all it is cheap :-D

I know!!! They had a show a couple of hours ago & I happened to catch the end of it online - they were just slapping the towels over their hands and legs and not really watching what they were doing - no worry about uneven coverage or anything. There's some new packs out right now with the mist. There was a good one that would have been a perfect introductory pack for me - it had 5 towels, 5 exfoliator towels, 5 xtend towels & a bonus small tanning mist. But it sold out. So I might have to wait to see if they re-stock that one, otherwise I'll look at another basic pack.
Thanks heaps charismatic for your info - very helpful :) Just wanted to ask about the mist - is it as good as it looks? Because I find that with spray on tans that I get concentrated 'spots' of tanning spray because it doesn't come out of the can evenly, and it looks shocking. This mist looks like it's quite fine, so maybe it's better. Also - what's the colour like?

The only place I know of is TVSN (which do packs) or directly from the Tantowel website.
I just gave in & ordered a different pack to the one I wanted - I gave in because it was the last one!! :glee: And it was good value for money.
The pack includes 2 x 10 pack Tan Towels, a bottle of Tanning Mist 236mL and a small bottle of Moisture Mist 56mL - for $69.50.
Now these are supposedly colourless, odourless, streak free, and won't even stain your white carpet! Let's see if the hype is worth it, but from the sounds of charismatic and VeeE's experience, they sound OK.

OK ! so I tried the Model Co Tan Glove last night. Its like a thick chux glove soaked with solution. I mean DARENCHED! a good thing coz im tall. O p.s wear latex gloves under the Tan glove, its not lined. Because of the alcohol base I would say wear em just to be on the safe side. I can see it soaking into hands too quickly to be saved by a scrub after.
I started off spreading it over my legs just lightly as i didn't want to over apply or run out before the end of my body.
Staring as instructed at my thighs did both legs then onto tummy, lower back, arms, chest and upper back. When you run out of solution you have to go back and rub over all the areas to make sure you've spread it around and havent missed anywhere and everything is nice and blended. This is a very important step
It dried pretty quickly felt a bit sticky in some places where i had applied a bit much but fine to put PJ's on straight awyt and went to bed.
The next morning I absolutely cacked myself. The colour was great!! :clapping: top half looked amazing!! :clapping:buuut I had forgotten to blend my legs properly and I looked like i was wearing shredded tan pants :chuckle::shakehead: or some kind of pigmentation disorder. I had mostly tan legs with big streaks of white everywhere. Not just one or two but like a dozen. It was hilarious!!
Soo I had a shower and reapplied. It went really well. The second application did go a tad bit nuclear reactive but not too bad. It toned the streaks down really nicely. I made sure in my reapplication that i touched up all the streaks first. I put it on before i went to work. I noticed it was developing quite nicely and i could see a good colour going on after just 3hrs.:worship:
There really is not much drying time required. I tanned first then did hair and make up then got dressed.
The smell was great too. It smelt very Model Co when it went on and a bit of the good ol "tan smell" as it developed later but not repulsive. Very light.
All in all I am impressed. 5 stars.:worship::worship: I love a quick tan and am soo over the whole wait to dry and develop thing. This is my new favourite. I am white as a sheet and next time I would stick to just one gloves applications worth and make super sure I had blended it reeeeally well! I dont really have anything constructively critisising to say about this product other than be careful on double applications straight after each other. I think an application a few days later after the first coat had faded a bit would be fine though.
This would be great if you had to go out that night and tan in the morning. The light smell could eeeasily be covered with a quick spritz of perfume and probably not even noticeable by anyone else anyway.
ALL HAIL!!

The Modelco tanning gloves will be my next tanning purchase. I'm on the quest for my HG tanning product.

I am locing myself sick with my tan from the Kit Self Tanning Body Lotion thingy - and unlike the cheaper options, I don't get patchy and streaky if I miss a day or 2!
I think I need to go buy "stuff" today!

TBA you've made me want to try the model co glove now! :penguin:
I used my Origins Tan last night... I have to say it was OK, but not impressed. It's a tinted one that you put on and it's shimmery so I was all sparkly and glittery afterwards.
I applied it after a shower last night and it was a gel type consistency and dried rather quick which was good. The smell was all minty which was a bit different, but then that faded away to the tan smell, which really wasn't too bad. I was worried it was going a bit orangey, but thismorning when I had my shower to de-sparkle myself :chuckle: it was all good.
The colour didn't really do too much it's very light, and honestly I think my Palmers Tanneriser has a quicker and deeper colour. So I've applied that over the top today. My work pals think I look brown, but that could be the Palmers I've been using all week as I don't think I'm much browner than I was yesterday.. but am willing to give it another go anyway! :whipcrack:

Nice one Loola! Last night I used the Palmer's Natural Bronze gradual tanner for the first time. It didn't give much colour but my skin feels nice and I'll apply another coat tonight... and tomorrow night... and Saturday night... hahaha. At least I will be moisturising at the very least!!

I've been using this every 2nd night because i'm very fair and i don't t want to look too dark.
The only way i can stand the smell of this is if i go to bed. That way i can't smell it becaue i'm asleep.
Its kinda nice wiht the cocoa smell but then you get a wif of the tanner and its pretty pongy, but smells better than some others out there.
This would have to be the best self-tanner i've used so far and i think i will be buying more so i can perfect my tan. Also it makes your skin so soft.

So good to hear some positive reports about the Palmers! I bought it yesterday but haven't tried yet. I am pale as a ghost so thank god it's nice and gradual (like, they actually mean gradual!). No problems with streaking anyone?

I don't have any streaking. It is so nice and creamy and moisturising, I think that ensures you rub it in properly. I am happy with it and look forward to reapplying it tonight to get a bit more colour!

I can't stress enough "RUB IT IN ALL THE WAY, RUB RUB RUB". I find that i need to rub it in very well otherwise i do get streaks. ALthough it says gradula i would say on my white skin it was obvious after 1 application especially on my legs. So be careful when re-applying.

Excellent advice, thanks heaps for this PP.
It is my pleasure, because i am so white my friends need to wear sunglasses around me in summer, so i like to help others out that are unfortunate to be naturally tanned. Lol :penguin:
Also i forgot to mention that althoug hit is a tanneriser i like to exfoliate before applying so i have a clean slate to work with and be all smooth.

Yep - I do the same PP - make sure I'm smooth and exfoliated! makes for an even better result

I don't mind the Palmers smell, but I like the cocoa butter smell, and yeah I apply the tanning moisutriser stuff each night at bed and then if i want a bit more colour again during the day too.... and exfoliate after a few days to keep it all even looking.... :clapping:

I think the rub in is the key to a streak free tan and using enough product. Its when you skimp out on the application and dont rub it in enough that you get the streaks.
I cant say i'm a big fan of the not-quite-chocolate smell either haven't smelt the tan. By the sounds of things i HAVE to get this tan :penguin: A girl can NEVER have too many tans!!

The only product I have tried in the Palmers range is the Leg Gloss. Yeah, I'm also not too keen on the cocoa smell, but it's not too bad after a while. The Leg Gloss is similar to DuWop's Revolotion - it's a liquid bronzer. The thing that I find though is that you have to rub it in REALLY well, otherwise it looks orange and streaky (which is what I also find with the Revolotion). But once it settles into the skin, it looks quite nice & also has shimmery bits in it.
And when it comes to washing it off, you need to give your legs a couple of good lathers because otherwise it ends up all over your towel when you dry off (I learnt that the hard way!). So it's pretty water resistant, but it can rub off on materials sometimes, so I have to try to be conscious of that.

Bluemelon that one sounds like a lot of work!
I did layer 2 of the Palmers Natural Bronze last night and I am browner today. Could be more brown... but will be tomorrow after tonight's application! Hehehe. I need to use more on my feet though I think, so my feet are brown and not just my bloody ankles!!

Yeah it is a bit complex, but the result is nice. It covers imperfections, so is good for people with varicose veins etc & also has a hair growth inhibitor in it, so you supposedly don't have to shave/wax as often. But I don't apply it regularly enough, so not sure if that's true!
So how do you guys get around the ankle & wrist area when applying these tanning products. The worst for me is the wrist/hand area, because I stop at the inner wrist to avoid the palms of the hands, but then you get this lovely band around the wrist area!

Thats a tough question. I too struggle with "where do i stop" when using these tannerisers. I just try not to apply any to the feet or hands and just blend it with what i've already applied to my arms and legs. However this is easier said than done. I have white feet at the moment and tanned legs.......... ewwwww.

I take the tannerisers on to the feet, but you have to rub well and make sure that the dry heel bits are well exfoliated.

I take it down onto the feet too, and I follow Fake Bake's instructions which are to smooth a very spare layer of oil onto the feet about five mins before you tan. It stops so much being absorbed onto the drier skin of the feet and also prevents the feet staying too dark after you've shaved your legs once or twice (and therefore exfoliated some of your fake tan off your legs). I still have bad trouble with feet though and my feet almost always end up looking a bit dirty. Yuck!
But does anyone else love waking up in the morning when they have done a full tan the night before?? It's like waking up on Christmas morning - you go to the mirror to h
