View Full Version : Ultraceauticals Reviews
I came into work today fresh faced (no foundation) having in mind I wanted to head straight to the tester stand and try the new Ultraceauticals Ultra Active Mineral Foundation. I decided Honey was the best colour for me. Boy do I love this foundation! (it's already tucked away in my bad to take home and add to my collection :))
Its super easy to apply, just a quick brush over the face, gives great coverage (more then some of my other foundations) and feels like there is nothing on my face! It does give more of a matte look and works best when used over a primer.
Definitetly two enthusiastic thumbs up!
ohh, forgot to mention it comes in a powder form, so it's a little confusing, but its definitely a foundation... :worship:

What are the colours like for fair-skinned misses like myself? It doesn't have sunscreen built in, does it- that would be perfection!

I'm wearing it today!
Sapphire, the colours are quite pale - I'm usually the lightest shade in many foundations but in this one I'm the second lightest (Beige). The Ivory shade is about equivalent to Laura Mercier Porcelain Ivory or MAC NC15.
It doesn't have an SPF rating on the packaging, however the main ingredients are titanium dioxide and zinc, so I reckon it would offer some sun protection - it may just be that Ultraceuticals haven't bothered to put it through TGA testing, since their moisturiser already has SPF30+.

Still, I don't think I would want to risk an untested spf on my delicate flesh!
I have been using Megan Gale's tinted sunscreen which is fab except that the colour is a bit too dark for me. It would be ok if I wanted to darken my skintone a little over summer but I like my fairness. Megan Gale, if you're out there- please make one for fair skinned lasses! :shake:

Well no, you wouldn't want to rely on it as your only sun protection. But any extra sun-protection is a bonus ;)

I've been told they are making a lighter colour that will be released early 2007

How do powder foundations compare to liquid? Does it look 'powdery' on? I'm confused!!

How do powder foundations compare to liquid? Does it look 'powdery' on? I'm confused!!
A liquid foundation consists of colour pigments plus emulsifiers and silicones/oil/water to make it a liquid that you can spread over the skin. A mineral foundation (like the Ultraceuticals one) contains just the colour pigments. So the effect in the end is much the same, but mineral foundations tend to stay on longer because they don't slide around so much.
It will look a little bit powdery at first but not once it settles into your skin.
No, once it's on the face it doesn't look powdery at all, but it's in a powder form. I used one of my other foundations this morning and it's just so much harder to get an even coverage.
Celeste(Staff)

What do you prefer? When is a powder form better/liquid better?
I'm loving this foundation as a quick cover up in summer (becasue its so quick and feels strangely light). You know the days at the beach when you don't want to wear makeup but would like to look a little nicer then a freak when you go straight out to dinner or shopping?!
I think it's also great when you're in a hurry becasue it's so quick to apply. Kate used it the other day as she was leaving the salon from having a facial. Didn't want to put on a heavy full makeup, but wanted to cover up the redness and skintone so she could step outside the door.

I really love the Gentle Cleansing Gel, it makes my skin feel completely clean, without stripping it and making it feel dry. This is one of my all time favourite cleansers. I tried the Ultra ACE facial cream for the first time last night, and I love this product also, this cream just melted right into my skin, without leaving it greasy. My skin felt sooo soft and fresh afterwards. My face (apart from the pimply area on my chin) had a nice glow to it this morning also. I look forward to seeing how my skin looks after using this product for a longer period of time!

I have just begun my second tube of the gentle cleanser- I love it too! My skin is easily irritated and reddened as I am quite fair, but also very oily and this cleanser manages to thoroughly clean without feeling too harsh. It also seems to keep my skin in balance. I would give it 4.5 stars.

Kate, I am hesitant to puchase without trying the colour of the foundation- when I wear foundation it is usually Revlon new complexion in no 2 creamy peach beige. What would be the Ultraceuticals equivalent?
Also, I tried Megan Gales tinted zinc but it is far too dark for me, unless I want to look golden tanned, which I don't.
Finally, how would you describe the coverage of the Ultraceuticals? Light? Sheer?
Cheers!

I have been so impressed with Ultaceuticals. I bought the bargain pack from Adore a couple of months ago and I really like the Gentle Exfoliating one, and the moisturiser is GREAT! I love that it is thick and 30+ but soaks straight in to my skin and my skin feels bare - perfect for applying make-up! Not at all greasy.
I would definately buy this again.

Sapphire, I reckon you'd be Beige in the Ultraceuticals. Coverage-wise it's fairly adaptable, you can do just a light dusting if you want it sheer, or apply a few layers for full coverage.
The new lighter colour in the Megan Gale tinted daywear should be available within the next couple of weeks, or so I've been promised :)

I have been using the Ultraceauticals Protective Moisturiser SPF30+ for about the last 2 weeks. It is fantastic. Soaks into the skin real quick, and leaves my skin feeling soft too.
I used to use the Megan Gale Daywear SPF30+ but I am finding the Ultraceauticals one much better.

How do you apply this? Does it come with a brush, or do you have to buy a seperate one? I have tried a mineral foundation once and it was a loose powder that needed a kabuki brush to apply it. It was OK, good coverage, the only thing was that the colour wasn't right for me and it looked too pale, so I threw it out (purchase online - taught me a lesson. ..).

Mel, the U/C mineral foundation comes with an applicator thing, but I find that the best way to apply this powder is with a proper powder brush, as it goes on more evenly (it looked too cakey using the applicator thing). I find I can layer the foundation over pimply/red areas on my face, to make them disappear, without it looking like I shovelled the foundation on. It's the best ever foundation! Try it, you won't be disapointed!

Vitamin C is an anti-oxident (a powerful free radical scavenger). It also helps with collagen production. Also said to intensify your sunscreen's effectiveness. Use a few drops under your day treatment.

No, it shouldn't make your skin oily. I don't recommend it for daily use on breakout-prone skin - if you break out easily, just use it every second day.

Just thought I'd review a few U/C products seeing as I use a few & love all of them... :hugs:
Am on my 2nd tube of U/C Ultra C Sheer Cream which I use in the mornings on clean skin.
It's awesome. Over the top of which I apply my Protective Moisturiser with SPF30+. This product is also fab.
Even thougth it is thick, it sinks into the skin so well. I couldn't have survived without this product when I was down the coast for a week. Even though I tan easy, I'm always mindful of putting sunscreen on my face as I don't want to look like a wrinkled all apple when I get older
I am also nearly finished my U/C Even Skintone serum (Gentle Formula). I use this at night.
I love love love it. :hearts:
My skin hasn't looked this good in years. I would definatlely rate this as my fave U/C product.

Hey Gals!!
I just ADORE :hearts: Ultraceuticals range. One of my all time favourite ranges!!
I am/have used :
Ultra Cleasing Gel.
I am continually amazed how any bubbles i get from such a tiny amount of this yummy cleanser.( I can never foam Special Cleansing Gel right) I have a rare, pretty normal skin. Tiny bit of oil. My skin never feels tight or stripped after this cleanser.Just right! perfectly clean. I know I shouldnt, but I do, (we ALL do!) use this on my eyes and it does sting, no surprises there, when it goes into my eyes, but it doesnt make my eye area feel tight after either.
Ultra Exfoliating Gel
This exfoliant is nice. My all time fav I would have to say is the MD Forulations scrub, because it's sooo intensive, but this one is up there too.
This is great even for a sensative skin. the perfect amount of little beads. I like it on my face when its not too wet. use it twice a week in summer and my skin feels fine. not stripped or irritated. and once in winter when i dry out a bit.
Ultra A Serum
Yummy yummy yummy
Nice and light. I use it at night. Like any vit A product should be used. under my moisturiser. I dont get any stinging. A is for AGE PREVENTION girls. I dont kow who doesnt need this. especially where I am in queensland. The home of the chicken skin neck!! I alternate this with Even Skin Tone Serum Regular Strength a few times a week. I am a fair red hair. I dont tan, just freckle. I am super concious of keeping my face freckle free and I find this combo (as well as 30 from hairline to nipples) daily FANTASTIC. I have also found this combo has helped with the reddy purple scarring left after thos hormonal pimples we all love :shakehead:
Even Skin Tone Serum
The best pigmentation treatment I have ever used!!! :worship:
This is a great staple of my regime. I have tried the gentle formula but I just love the regular formula. The regular has slightly higher % of active ingredients predominantly BHA and Lactic Acid. It does have a bit of a tingle for the first few times of using it but as long as it's not accompanied by heat I know that means its working :) Its great for helping to munch up surface congestion too.
I dont get any tigle with the genlte formula and thats why I like the regular more.
I use this just at night. You can use it during the day if you put it under sunscreen
Ultra ACE Cream
This is now the same as Ultra A Serum just a cream version. I use this at night over even skin tone serum. But not at the same time as Vit A serum I love the weight of this cream. It's designed to be a treatment product UNDER a moisturiser but I find Its enough for me at night.
I've got the low down on the new ULTRA A CREAM, IT IS A DIFFERENT FORMULA. Check it out!
Ultra A Green Tea Spritzer
If you love Dermalogica's Multi Acitve toner or ANY toning spritz you'll LOVE this. Who wouldnt want an instant burst of antioxidant Green Tea??!! I find this one doesnt sting my eyes like Multi Active Toner can.
And of course Ultra Protective Moisturiser 30+
THE best moisturiser sunscreen around I reckon. Give just the right amount of moisture with out leaving the white zincy look. Totally great protection. Great base under make up too. Doesnt clog. And the zinc base is totally great for sensative skins. This sunscreen gives the best protection of all UV RAYS incliding even the deepest penetrating UVA rays. NO CHICKEN SKIN IN THIS NECK OF THE WOODS hee hee :chuckle:
Woo!! Thats a lot. lol
Hope your weekends have been awesome!! and that you melbournites survived Grand Prix weekend ok.
Much Love

Welcome back TBS! Where you been?
Tell us more about Ultra A Cream being different. I was assured directly by Ultraceuticals Head Office in Sydney that it was the same formula?? As far as I know the Serum has about 0.3% Retinol and the old ACE (new Ultra A cream) has only 0.1% plus Vitamins C and E. Let us know if you have heard any different.

It is different Luisa, they've removed the vitamin C (it wasn't ascorbic acid so they thought they may as well leave it to the C10/Ultra C products) and have encapsulated the retinol content. The retinol encapsulation gives better stability and also gets rid of the pillow-staining yellow colour ;)

This weeks been crazy and havent had a chance to get back on the net. Sorry to keep you waiting Luisa.
I think Kate summed up the changes nicely :clapping: Thanks.
I think it was a good move of Ultraceuitcals taking out the Vit C and making the Vit A better and streamlining their range more to just Vit C products and just Vit A products. As much of a fan of the ACE cream as I was I'm sure i will love ths one too. Have to give it a whirl when I finish my Vit A serum and ACE cream.

There wasn't much Vitamin C in the old Ultra ACE Luisa - and it wasn't pure vitamin C either. Ultraceuticals have promised me that the new formula is just as effective, if not more so :)
Both the Ultraceuticals vitamin C creams are pretty strong. So you will get a tingle/stinging sensation with both of them (at least at first, till your skin gets used to it)... and they are both fragrance free too. Have you tried the C10 serum? This is a bit milder.
Your other option would be to try one of the Skinceuticals serums, these come in a range of strengths (10%/15%/20%).

Yes you can use both. The Ultra A Serum has more retinol, plus BHA, but isn't a moisturiser. The Ultra A Treatment Cream is a night cream with less retinol than the serum but other antioxidants.

Yes, for most skin types it should be fine. If you are new to retinol I'd probably suggest starting with just the serum on its own for 2-3 weeks, then adding the Ultra A cream.

Well, I've been using the Ultra Milk Cleanser for a week now and it's a lovely product.
Very liquid consistency and you don't need much - huge bottle too - so a little goes a long way. Feels gentle on the skin and you can smell (and taste, whoops!) the soy extract. Removes most of your makeup but you'd need something extra for heavy-duty eyes.
Leaves skin feeling clean but also super-hydrated; I've never got this from a cleanser before; you need little or no moisturiser afterwards.
I was a bit unsure about how it'd go with my combo/oily skin but have been pleasantly surprised. I'd quite like to try the Ultra Cleansing Gel to compare, as I'm definitely drawn more to the active foaming products (helps to see the reviews already on here!). But I think U/C Milk Cleanser is fabulous and would be a great morning cleanser for combo gals, and everyday/twice-a-day for normal/sensitive skins.
Rapidly turning into a U/C devotee. Clinique not even getting a look in at the moment (and as some would know, this is saying a lot for a Clinique geek like me). Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oi, Oi, Oi!

Yes! Do it! It's the best! I love this stuff. Another fantastic thing I discovered about this foundation is that it's easy to do different coverages. For day use I do it quite lightly and mostly just over my chin and nose, and then I blend.
At night I use it over a primer and it really does work beautifully over this. I use a heavier coverage and it looks flawless.

This is at raspberryberet's request!
Ultra Hydrating Gel
This is more like a weak/watery cream rather than a clear gel. I found it very moisturising, it spread well and absorbed quickly. I will be happy to re-purchase.
Clear Exfoliating Gel
This is more of a clearer gel with exfoliating beads in it. What I liked most about it is its not a really thick gel and the beads weren't too scratchy - I felt like my skin had a good scrub. You don't need much either so I think this tube will last me a long time.

Allison has put me on an Ultraceuticals diet (plus one Alpha H product- liquid harmony exfoliator or some such name) so I have a few tentative reviews. My skin is still settling into this routine so I cannot vouch for anything yet. I have also had a few more breakouts than usual (my skin is oily and can be sensitive) but am waiting it out. This may also be due to my naughtiness with soap while on grand prix holiday in Melbourne (see my thread in ask allison) so I'm not sure if any of these products are making me break out, or if my skin is adapting to them etc. Anyway:
C10 serum- this goes on very nicely, sinks in automatically. Using daily in the mornings only.
Ultra A cream- feels wonderful but I do wake up with very oily skin in the mornings- only use at night.
Gentle cleansing gel- I had been using this before I began this skin regime and still love it- possibly the best cleanser I have ever used as it is great on sensitive skin that is also very oily- like mine.
I have previously tried the 30+ moisturizer but I am one of the few Adorables who is not a big fan. It soaked into my skin wonderfully but makes it more oily part-way through the day than both the Megan Gale one, and my other fave, Clinique Super City Block. Also, it irritates my eyes- makes them sensitive and watery.
As I said, I am unsure if my breakout skin is due to any of the above. I have only been getting pimples on my forehead and hairline- tiny bump/rash-like pimples as well as a couple of those painful lumpy ones- hairline and temple. Will post back after a few more weeks to update everybody. xo

Ok, time for my review!
I have been using the UC EvenTone Serum, Ultra A serum and Ultra Sheer Vit C cream religiously for about three weeks.
I always thought I had great skin but believe me you aint seen nothin until you have tried UC!
Admittedly I cannot stand the smell of the Vit C cream (or any Vit C product for that matter) so after reading Kate's post on how it remains active, only apply every second day. I do find it stings a bit (Bestie has to use the 23% one which is apparently thicker and stronger in its Vit C content but doesnt sting as much). I do like the texture of the Ultra Sheer as it is very matte and non greasy - great when you are layering products in the morning.
The combination of the Eventone serum and Ultra A serum (it is more like a lightweight cream for those who have not tried) has had an impressive effect on my pigmentation/freckles in such a short time. I use these each evening. If I feel so inclinded, I have been using the Christian Dior Capture Lift Night cream on top as Allison has advised that the serum should not replace a night cream. The texture of the serum is sublime and lightweight.
Not sure if I would use other lines in the range. Will investigate these further. I like to use products that have have good active ingredients and "play" with others randomly!

Dont think it is bad, infact I am pretty sure this was a recommendation (please correct me Allison). I love that cream too, still has the Vit E and A but I think Kate said they removed the Vit C as it was not a particularly stable one.

Yea I dont think it was L-acorbic acid (true vit C) from memory.
I have tried a sample of the new Vit A cream and it seems a bit smoother. I dont have that swaty feel to my skin straight after I put it on :)
I havent ha a problem with using the seum and cream. My skin feels hydrated and I havent had anything nasty happen so i guess it cnt be that bad right??

I guess the proof would be in continuous use. Ive only tried a sample and loved it's creamy texture, the same as the old one. In that respect I can say its the same. Smells a little different. Nicer if you ask me. speshly if u dont like that vitaminy smell Luisa. I dont think you'll have anything to worry bout. :hearts:

I've been using the Even Skin Tone Gentle formula (free in a GWP) and am now keen to buy it. I'm wondering though if I should get the regular formula because I don't have sensitive skin and the gentle formula didn't make my skin tingle. Should it?
Luisa Brown
28-04-2007, 12:14 PM
Jaime, I think because you have gone through a "course" of the gentle formula, you should now be able to "graduate" to the regular formula. When you do, start off with only every second night building to nightly after two weeks. You should be fine if you do not have any sensitivites or didnt experience any tingling with the gentle.

Ok I'm finding this product very interesting, but in a good way! I would describe the texture as like a 'dry' cream. I'm sure those who have used it will know what I mean. I've been told you only need to apply it lightly, but ensuring its well rubbed in. It feels very nice on my skin underneath my SPF30+ moisturiser. Didn't experience as much 'warming' or 'tingling' on the skin as I thought I would though.

Ultraceuticals Mineral Foundation - ok I didn't love this the first few times I tried it but now - swoon! It takes time to adjust as it gives a lighter coverage than other foundations. But it does cover stuff up (I do use a bit of concealer underneath if necessary) and it looks like you are wearing no make up and just have flawless skin! Love it now.

I like it very much LB. It's very hydrating but not oil-based (lots of hyaluronan instead). I've just starting using it again about a week ago, as my skin was getting very dehydrated with a few dry flaky patches (overdid it with the Skinceuticals Retinol 1% :dunce: ). Dehydration seems to be all sorted now, yay :penguin:

The Ultra Hydrating Gel is a better option for oily/acne skin as it has a lighter texture than the Ultra Moisturiser Cream.

Give it a try jaime, it's not oil-based so it shouldn't make you break out. It's not problematic for oily skins as such, it's just that the oily-skinned often prefer a gel texture to a cream, which is why there is the Ultra Hydrating Gel as an alternative.

Ok, it can't hurt. I don't actually have oily skin, but I do get hormonal breakouts occasionally. The UC range has actually kept my breakouts at bay for about 5-6 weeks now... I was just worried it might make me breakout again.

I felt the same way celestefay! I even thought I broke out from it... but now I adore it too!
I have combination skin, & I find it sits so well. My t-zone still requires blotting during the day, but that I guess is more due to my fringe...
I also apply a bit of concealer underneath to a few spots & then brush the foundation over with a stubby brush. I find it so quick to apply. Which is always a bonus when I'm in a rush in the mornings trying to get my butt out the door... :penguin:

I have tried a sample of the Ultra Moisture Cream & it was good. Light in texture & you only need a tiny bit, feels lightweight on the skin but I was surprised how hydrated my skin felt. I thought initally that it would be too light for me.
This would be a good choice if you are worried about thickness when layering products - moisturiser/sunscreen/foundation etc.

hi guys , i need some help
i have been using my new UC products & am wondering if patting them in is ok ? though not the one u need to massage - & actually i do this lightly but i found it soaked in very quickly  & when using multi products [layering] do i have to wait between applications ? u know like an aha product ?
thank u :hearts: :typing:
i have the eventone serum & samples of all the other products , oh & the eye cream as well:penguin:
jaime

I don't know about the patting - I know they recommend 'dabbing' in eye cream and not rubbing. For the rest of the stuff I rub it in. I usually use the EST serum, a drop for each area and rub it in, when it dries I will usually then apply on top.
At night I will use the Ultra A serum and because its such a light cream it doesn't take long to soak in but I usually just give it a few minutes and put on the ultra C sheer. I was told by a BT that with the ultra C sheer you have to really rub it in properly??? I dunno for sure everyone seems to say what they think....
I hope that helps.

If you check back on Dr Haber's thread, he mentioned just lightly smearing the Ultra C Sheer if it is stinging at all rather than rubbing in. I would always wait a few minutes between layers.

Hey gals,
So to clear the air on the whole-rub or pat thing.
C-10 serum= rub in for at least 1 minute till you feel its all soaked in
20% sheer = rub lightly if you get the warm tingles or massage in weel otherwise (to avoid the product oxidising on the surface and making your skin look like it has tons of blackheads)
23% = see above
re: Layering here the process.
Even skin tone serum first, rub in till absorbed, appropriate Vit C product, then moisturiser. If your doing this during the day you can put the 30+ on instead of or over the top of your moisturiser.
If you've massaged your products in well enough you should need to wait between layers. I wait between my moisturiser and mineral make up so it doesnt look cakey.
Hope that helps. Please correct me anyone if you feel thats wrong :)
Much Love

[very unlike me] she also said to massage for 1 - 2 mins when applying the C 23% cream but didn't mention this with the c-10 [well actually she said it was a different delievery system so i didn't need to worry]

Hey ness!!!
Yes I have used the Ultra Hydrating Gel. You can use this as a moisturiser if you have oily skin. Its nice and light. I have used it as a serum under my protective moisturiser 30+ during the day and over the top of my even skin tone serum and c-10 serum at night. Its yummy. I have pretty normal to slightly combo skin and I find it is a bit on the light side for a moisturiser by itself.

I think you will enjoy the Hydrating gel. Its actually a whte fluid as opposed to an actually see-thru gel. When u put it on ur skin it just like a big splash of water. Instant hydration. The other option they hae is the Ultra Moisturising Cream which is the cream version and has a bit more weight (not greasy or thick though. Just more body to it and I think more hydrating :) )

I have just browsed the Ultraceuticals product section and noticed some confusing directions for U/C Even Skintone Serum and Ultra C Sheer Cream.. confused::confused:
DIRECTIONS: (Ultra C Sheer Cream)
Apply once daily to clean skin, avoiding the eye area. You may feel a warm and/or tingling sensation immediately after application, this is due to the release of ascorbic acid into the skin and is quite normal. Always wear sunscreen over the top of this product. Drier skins may also need an additional moisturiser over the top. If you are using AHAs, apply your Ultra C Sheer cream in the morning and use your AHAs at night.
DIRECTIONS: (Even Skintone Serum)
Apply morning and/or night on clean skin, underneath Ultra ACE Facial Treatment Cream, one of the Ultra C creams, or Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF 30+. When commencing use for the first time, we suggest using it only once every second or third day, then slowly increasing to daily use. This is to allow your skin time to adjust to the active ingredients.

I do mine the other way around! Even skintone serum at night followed by the Ultra A serum. I use the Ultra C Sheer in the morning on clean skin. I like the fact that it works well with my sunscreen at protecting my skin. I would consider using my Ultra C Sheer at night just to get away from the smell!!

Yup, me too, I do Ultra C in the AM and Ultra A or Even Skintone in the PM (says the expert, who has been using them for under a week!). Just loving the Ultra C in the mornings, seems to work really well under makeup; sinks straight in, skin feels so smooth and matte.

Vit C should be used in the morning I thought, because of the increased protection it offers to the skin from the sun.
The_Beauty_Addict
31-05-2007, 10:36 PM
Yea thats right Saphire. The anti-oxidant and free radical nutralising properties of the Vit C is fantastic to back up your sunscreens UV protection.
As the general rule Vit C during the day and ESTS and Vit A at night. One can use evenskin tone serum UNDER the Vit C during the day to help the delivery of the Ascorbic Acid if it gives you blackheads but you must must must use a 30+ over the top. But I woud slowly build up to using it this often (am and pm) once a day is plenty for most people. If theres no need for the extra exfoliation then once a day is sufficient.
I hope that helped and didnt add to any confusion.:spin:
I truly believe that using the Ultra C Sheer Cream in the mornings combine with a sunscreen will increase the protection of the skin from the sun.
I just got confused when I read the directions from U/C product section for Even Skintone and Ultra C Sheer Cream that:
DIRECTIONS: (Ultra C Sheer Cream)
If you are using AHAs (Even Skintone), apply your Ultra C Sheer cream in the morning and use your AHAs at night.
(does it mean that you cannot use both at the same time?)
DIRECTIONS: (Even Skintone Serum)
Apply morning and/or night on clean skin, underneath Ultra ACE Facial Treatment Cream, one of the Ultra C creams, or Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF 30+.
(does it mean that you can use both at the same time?)
Which is which?

O ness I can see why your confused. Aha's can be used AM and PM. I find it interesting that they almost contradict themselve on that point. As a general rule, yes the ESTS is recommended to be used just at night. If you feel you need more exfoliation from the ESTS then I would recommend that you could use it during the day first before your Vit C. You may need to "build up " to using it AM and PM every day tho. start with every other day and see how ur skin adjusts to it.
I hope that help clear things a little ???:ashamed:

Thanks TBA! :hugs: I know that AHA's can be used AM and/or PM. It's just that the directions for Ultra C Sheer Cream and Even Skintone is confusing and contradicting. If Ultra C and Even Skintone can be used at the same time, how come the directions for the Ultra C is different and contradicting? The directions for Ultra C Sheer should: If you are using AHA's you can use the Ultra C Sheer over the Even Skintone NOT If you are using AHAs, apply your Ultra C Sheer cream in the morning and use your AHAs at night.

BKK, take a look at the different profiles provided by Adore, you could even check out the Ultraceuticals website. I had used the Ultra A cream when it was known as ACE treament cream. While it is lightweight, the serum is featherlight but neither of them are greasy at all. What do others have to say?

Reading back on all the threads about Ultra A, esp the one with Dr Geoff Huber... I still can't decide which one to buy... the Ultra A Serum or the Ultra A Cream...
Ahhhhhhh... am in a pickle.... :shakehead:
I'm mainly concerned with assisting in clearing my skin... not so much on anti-aging.... cause if I was, I'd buy the serum as it has a higher % of retinol...
Any suggestions from my fellow U/C devotees???
Hey BKK,
I would suggest the Ultra Clear Treatment Gel. It still has quite a high % of Retinol as well as AHA, BHA and Tee Tree which is fab for clearing up break outs and soothing any current angry ones. It smell lusciously tee tree too and nice and light.
If you did have you heart set on the treatment serum or cream I would recommend the serum as its nice and light and like you said has the higher % of retinol in it. Do you find you get dry at all during winter?? if you do then you could use another moisturiser over the top :p

Also, I've just realised I'm nearly out of the Ultra C Sheer cream too... so I may as well make the most of the U/C GWP & get the free moisturiser... :glee:

BKK, take a look at the different profiles provided by Adore, you could even check out the Ultraceuticals website. I had used the Ultra A cream when it was known as ACE treament cream. While it is lightweight, the serum is featherlight but neither of them are greasy at all. What do others have to say?
I agree that the now Ultra A cream is a great weight Luisa with the added moisture thats soo needed this time of year :) I like yourself love using the serum and cream together :p:clapping: Double wammy of Vit A. No ageing in these parts :chuckle::makeup:

I have only been using Ultraceaticals for about 3 days, and I have already seen an improvement in my skin, so I wanted to put my 2cents worth in.
This is what I have been using from this brand :
Gentle Cleansing Gel : I love this so much. Sh*ts allover the last cleasner I was using before. Not drying and really great for my oily T-Zone.
ACE Eye Cream : I have a bit of dehaydration around and under my eyes. This product helps that BIG TIME.
Ultra A Serum : Using this at night time under moisturiser. Makes my skin feel great. Love the texture too.
Ultra C Sheer : I use this in the day before my moisturiser. I think it has so far improved the apperance of my complection (I know its only been 3 days, but I swear I can see a difference).
Daily Protective Moisturiser : The best moisturiser I have ever used. Also makes my foundation sit purfectly.
I have also noticed over the past few days my skin is not an oil slick by the end of the day. I will definatley be using these products again.

I have been using UC products for a couple of months now, and while my skin is looking good, I am still getting odd little breakouts, mainly on my forehead. They are like a constant scattering of tiny whiteheads that don’t quite develop their heads. Allison prescribed this routine especially to make my skincare more active, while treating my very oily but easily sensitized skin. I have been using –
UC Cleasing Gel – I love this to bits, was already using it before my recommendations by Allison. I agree with Elizabeth, great for oily skin and not too drying.
UC Ultra A treatment cream (night only). This is lovely too, although when I wake up in the morning my face is an oil slick. This is ok since it is a night cream anyway. Does not seem to irritate me.
UC sheer C cream 20% (mornings only) – I was using the serum 10% but it contained a lot of propolene glycol, which is not good for breakout skin. This one seems fine, although I do not use it every day.
Allison also recommended I use the following products in conjunction with the above:
Alpha – H gentle harmonizing exfoliator – This is the first liquid exfoloator I have used, as I was always too frightened to use one in case my skin reacted. This does not upset my skin at all, but my tiny rash of almost-whitehead pimples have not gone away – in face, now they are always there. I rarely broke out prior to my new regime! I am wondering, perhaps this product is irritating my skin and causing the pimples. Or, it is not strong enough to clear my skin. Any ideas?
Skinceuticals Phyto Corrective Gel (night and day) This is to work on my sensitivities/tendency to go red. I have only been using this one for a couple of weeks and I do like it a lot – does not calm the skin outright but seems to work to build its strength over a longer period of time. Is also supposed to be good for breakout-prone skin.
While I do like this routine, something still seems to be not quite right – and I’m not sure which product is the culprit! The texture of my skin is great, small fine lines around my eyes look more subtle (though at age 26 they were only beginning to appear) though my oiliness has not been allayed at all. It is mainly this forehead pimples that are frustrating me – my forehead does not look smooth, although the bumps are tiny.
Any ideas? (and apologies for incorporating my non-UC products in this thread!)

I've been using the Ultra A Treatment Cream and Ultra C Sheer Facial Treatment Cream for about three weeks now, thought I'd report back.
I was rather foolish and introduced both together, once a day. Hello AHA overload! I should really have known better than this! So whilst my skin felt amazing at first, it started to get super-sensitive and a bit flaky on the third day. Checked with Allison and she confirmed my diagnosis: silly duffa syndrome. So I cut off all contact and last week started to re-introduce. Here's what I reckon:
- Ultra A Cream: have been using this every second day, smoothing over rather than rubbing into the skin. Sensible, yes?? Feels beautiful on and my skin is so soft the next morning. Seems to be helping keep it clear too.
- Ultra C: took me a while to get used to the texture, but really enjoying it now. Is a great base under makeup and I love the idea that it's working with my sunscreen to protect the skin.
I've also tried the Even Skintone Serum, which I'd like to re-purchase when I've had better exposure to the current products. Quite like the texture of a serum as opposed to a cream, but we'll see. Have also almost finished my sample of the Ultra Hydrating Gel, which is lovely and light. Much prefer the gel as opposed to cream texture with moisturisers.

Ultraceuticals Ultra Milk Cleanser: Gentle but really cleans my skin. I would say it is very similar to the Dermalogica Essential Cleansing Solution. Strange texture kinda a creamy gel. Leaves my skin clean but not tight, just comfortable. I have even spotted my boy using it even though he has his own (cheaper) cleanser. :shakehead: Must be good!
Ultra C Treatment Cream 23%: This cream freaked me out a bit at first. It looked & smelt like old fashioned brown zinc and it was really greasy. I persisted & continued to spend a good couple of minutes massaging in the product so not to get any surface oxidisation. I think this also activates the product by rubbing it into the skin as I get a bit of tingleing afterward. The big surprise was how quickly it soaked into my skin. After a few minutes the greasiness was gone! I use this product every 2nd night and my skin always feels really plum the next morning. I can't comment on long term effects yet as I have only been using it for 2 months.

Sapphire I have combo/oily skin and the milk cleanser has actually been better for me than the gel cleanser. It's very light and seems to help balance it out, and I don't need to use much moisturiser afterwards (as it hydrates as well as cleanses). However I do use the gel cleanser to remove makeup.

Luisa B, you read my mind- I forgot to post before that I used to love this one - plus the smell is divine. The only thing is it irritates my eyes after a while- they go all teary and tingly. But I might try again, just to make sure that was or was not the culprit, as aside from that it really is a fantastic cleanser.

Perhaps try and keep well away from eyes this time. RBB is on the right track. Milky cleansers strip the skin less so with an oily skin it can actually work in its favour. When the skin has been cleansed too well, the oil glands start singing out to each other to start producing more oil!

My oil glands must be a choir then, the amount of oil they put out, lol! Its funny, I was always told that in your 20s the skin starts to become much dryer, but is this just a silly myth? I am almost 27 and my skin is as oily as ever...the difference is, far less breakouts.

Okay I've been using my Ultraceuticals Ultra Milk Cleanser sample and I love it! I used it tonight on my skin and it felt totally gorgeous. I didn't use a moisturiser over it because I didn't feel I needed it (also I didn't want to over do it as my skin is prone to breakouts).
So...big fan here. I don't usually use creamy cleansers because they're not necessarily suitable for my skin, but I really hope this one works cos it feels beautiful. I will let you know if I breakout from it but for now - two thumbs up!

How long did you use it for, tim tam? I know that with products designed to even or lighten the skin you need to use them for 2 months at least before you see real results.

I have read that you need to use those type of products for a minimum of 6 months regular use to see any noticeable results. Sure, some people see them a lot faster but that's the amount of time you should allow.

I am cuious about this range too - they have a mattifying pressed powder with rice flour instead of talc, which I find much better at keeping oil at bay. rice and corn flower (like in Jurlique's silk dust range) seem to sit better on my skin, too.
Re the clarins, I forgot how to best use this cleanser - I remember I did not use the suction method they prescribe on the box, but it took a while to find an effective method because it does not always rinse easily or take stuff off unless you use it properly. I think I applied it to dry skin, massaged it in, left it on for a few minutes, or while showering, then wet my hands, massaged some more and rinsed very thrououghly. Then a final wipe with a face washer to make sure nothing gets in my sensitive peepers.

Trash, you may have to do a bit of a search. There were a whole lot of scenarios mentioned and of course Dr Haber's thread. Essentially (in my opinion) I believe in using an AHA product (in this case ESTS) in the evening as it can make your skin more photosensitive. Regardless you should be wearing a sunscreen anyway - you dont want to undo all the good work!
Dont be too concerned with the (small) variance in the Vit A content between the Ultra A treatment cream and the serum. I would say it depends on your skin type (because of the two different textures) and your sequence of use. I dont believe there are any hard and fast rules when it comes to the Vit A. I was advised that you can actually use both.
Vitamin C, I use in the morning. It has been shown to increase the effectiveness of your sunscreen and is a potent free radical scavenger so it makes more sense to use during the day.
Regardsless of what you are doing or what you choose to do, it is the perserverence using these products that will bring you results.
Good luck!

A word from the wise... when you decide to get either the Vit A serum or the cream, make sure you introduce it gradually... ie on alternative days combined with your Even Skintone... so u don't do any overdose on AHAs like I did...

I use it at night on any areas that are super dry... like my chin & a few areas on my cheeks.
After my overdose of AHAs debacle... this stuff has been fantastic at clearing up any dry areas on my face... it's super moisturising without being greasy. I have combo skin so this is important. Will definately be using it through the winter... :penguin:

Just to clear up any misunderstanding (sorry!), the Ultraceutical products containing Vitamin A (Ultra A treatment cream and serum) do not contain any alpha or beta hydroxy acids.
What they do have in common though is their action to slough the skin so their actions are quite similar. Yes, wise to introduce slowly!

Hi Luisa! I think U/C Utra A Treatment Cream has 15% Lactic Compound (AHA) and 0.5% BHA (salicylic acid) and U/C Ultra A Serum has 0.5% BHA (salicylic acid) without AHA..

What a coincidence!! I was just about to post a raving review of my experience of these 2 this week. I decided to cut out ALL the other prodcts from my routine and just use my ESTS and Vit A serum (other than my cleanser and toner) for the congestion that has been driving me crazy after my BHA peel !!
Please note that i have been using these products for a while and I do have peels regularly so my skin is used to a beating :glee::chuckle:
I have used these 2 together on a daily basis (just ESTS in the morning and EST and Vit A serum at night) for the last week and no vit C :eek:I KNOW I KNOW!! I hear you say NO VIT C !! HOW COULD YOU!! I just wanted to streamline my routine and see what happend. And of course my sunscreen during the day over the ESTS.
Soooo.. in the end my skin has reponded well. A few break outs as some of the congestion came out but it has worked wonders. And I could see this combo would work for any skin condition in need of renewal.
I would SLOOOWLY introduce these products together if you arent used any sort of constant renewing products.
Let us know how u go Trash!!
Much Love

Thanks Luisa B - by the way, have kept it well away from eyes for a few days now and not a single tear or weepy eye!
Good to hear!:sunnies:

Just a word on the UC packageing.
Has anyone else found the green bit is wearing off? I keep my Ultra Milk Cleanser in the shower & the green stripe is wearing away right where I hold it.
Also my Ultra A serum is getting down & because it is a pump pack I am finding it really hard to get to the bottom of it. It is a thickish cream, I feel it would do better in a tube.

Yes I keep my gel cleanser in the shower and some of the green bit is wearing off. I am also having difficulty getting the last of my Ultra A serum out, it would be so much better in a tube.

I hate packaging that wears away like that – it makes the products look old and cheap :tears:

I am a bit bummed at this one too! I have to dig it out with the pump nozzle that stops pumping way before the container is empty, not the greatest design for this thickish serum.

I am at the same stage with my Ultra A serum. I find i have to smack the base of the bottle on my palm a few times and it gets it going again. I think even tho the straw does go all the way to the bottom it gets a bit of an air pocket where it has just sucked the last pump of product out of so a good smack evens out the produc in the base again. I have found i also need to sometimes just scoop it off the straw too.
Earlier this year i got a pack that had a little suncreen, little scrub and little tan a lip balm blah blah blah. Whilst i have found that my normal full sized products i have no issues this packae peelaged but i did with my travel products :tears::shakehead::penguin:

I just finished my serum, but I was finding I was swizzling the straw around a lot to get it out and wiping it off the straw. I could still see heaps on the bottom so I resorted to a cotton bud - but even that doesn't reach all the way without sticking half your fingers in :shakehead: As Luisa said, its not so good for a thick serum....

TBA, I too got that travel pack... & the packaging on my scrub which I keep by the sink, is slowly peeling away too... :shakehead:
My normal size products are fine too...

Ooh, had no idea, thanks! 15% is a huge amount of AHA! The serum might be a better option for those AHA challenged!:chuckle:
Are you talkin bout me Willis! Aha challenged indeed - what a corker :chuckle::chuckle:

After having a horror skin week last week I began to lose faith in my Ultraceuticals products! My skin never breaks out and all of a sudden I felt like the crater face from hell (well lots of marks on my chin really where I had been getting out the blackheads)!
However I decided to persist and keep using my products and I am so glad I did. My skin looks amazing at the moment. All traces of nasty blackheads gone and my complexion is glowing with not a blemish in sight. I :hearts: Ultraceuticals!!
Here is a list of what I have been using (pinkcupcake likes lists if you haven't noticed):
Gentle Cleansing Gel - I don't usually like foaming cleansers but this one is very good on my skin particularly on my t-zone which is a bit oily. Thinking I will definitely try the milk cleanser next though.
Green Tea Skin Spritzer- A nice toner that does the job but isn't really extraordinary. This contains vitamin E, green tea, witch hazel and aloe vera.
Even Skintone Serum - well no explanation needed here, I think this a HG product of most forumers.
C-10 Serum - Probably no explanation needed here either.
Ultra Clear Exfoliating Gel - Love this stuff. It makes my skin so soft and smooth and gets rid of dead surface skin. It would be hard for me to say whether I like this one or Alpha-H's Microcleanse better.
Ultra Hydrating Gel - I love this! I only use on my oily t-zone but I would recommend this to anyone who has slightly oily skin. It absorbes so easily and plumps my skin up and keeps in well hydrated.
Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF30+ - I use this on my cheeks combined with Megan Gale Invisible Zinc on my T-zone purely for the sunscreen element!
Ultra Moisturiser Cream - I use this at night on my cheeks and neck only. I usually have a serum underneith but find this is a fantastic hydrater and my skin drinks it right up. About and hour after I use it my skin feels so well hydrated and soft.

O PCC!! ME TOO!! I have broken out something chronic!! Unexplainable!! I am using pretty much all the same products as you and I still cant keep em under control. I have always had pretty good skin like you and I have no idea what has caused it. Deep lumps like hormonal pimples randomly scattered over my face.
I have just recently completly cut out all my active ingredients (:shakehead::tears::eek::flames: ) I know it goes against everything i believe in but i figured my skin needs a bit of an elimination diet. I was using Ultra A serum and ESTS to try and zap it but it hasnt helped :tears::saber:
I too would love some adivce on this matter.
I have been using
Ultra Milk Cleanser twice a day
Ultra Green tea spritz twice a day
Protective Moisturiser 30+ AM
Ultra Moisture Cream PM
Dark Circle Eye cream AM & PM
Dermalogica Medicated Clearing Gel (This is the only remotely "active" product im using) just on breakouts at night.
PCC let me know how you go and if you find/have any break throughs :waving::hugs:
Much Love

Well, me too - but not those deep-pimples, just smatterings if tiny whiteheads - without the heads fully-formed on my forehead and a few on my nose. Occasional 'itchy' pimples too. Because I had never used actives prior to my Allison-prescribed UC diet, I thought that maybe my skin was reacting to that?
I was also using Alpha H harmonizing exfoliant (the gentle one) twice a day but have cut that back to every second day - my skin seems a bit better.
Kate or Allison, any theories for us?

Hi Gals,
Well as for the deep ones that TBA is getting they do sound very hormonal. Topical applications will help to clear and minimise but sounds like you need to look at the deeper issue of the hormones being out of whack... Get thee to a natural health practioner!
It may be as simple as an extra stressful period of time right now wh
