Flash back: 80’s beauty shockers!

Who doesn’t love a good mullet or bubble skirt? God Bless the 80’s and it’s back in fashion!

I remember Pac-Man, begging Mum for a Ra-Ra skirt and my days skating to The Pet Shop Boys at the roller rink. I loved my Cutex ‘opal moon’ iridescent lipstick; I looked hot in that and my teased fringe.

The girls on Degrassi Junior High were it. Who didn’t dream of Joey Jeramiah? I longed for a spiral perm and watched countdown with my cousin while discussing the sheer brilliance of the bubble skirt.

As goes the reliable 20 year turn around; The 80’s is back and I say “all hail!” (Except for skinny jeans- just can get over the Bogan factor). So as a tribute to the (probably short-lived) revival of 80’s fashion I feel it’s only just that we share our precious 80’s memories:

Oh lord… well I had a crimper. And my first eyeshadow was a duo from Australis, it was light shimmery green and a deeper shimmery green. Had to be worn with frosty pink lipstick!

My stepmother bought me a Nutrimetics eyeshadow trio, it was magnetic so you could pop the colours out and change it around. The compact was a frosty apricot colour! I am trying to remember what colours were in it… I know there was frosty pink.

Urrrmmmm what else… Impulse deodorants! God the girls changerooms at school used to reek of them.

Fragrance-wise, I was in love with Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers and Yardley White Satin.

I have a photo somewhere of me at my Year 6 Leavers Dinner (in 1989), wearing a hot pink cap sleeve dress with shoulderpads and white leggings, with crimped hair. :vomit:

There is no way I want to re-live the 80's in any way.

I had a krimper (thought I was so cool), bubble skirts and awful bright pink braces that held up my jeans. I had awful white sunglasses and loved leg warmers and plastic jewellery. I wore an absolute shocker of a dress to my year 6 formal. It was emerald green taffeta with a bubble skirt bottom. Who ever made that dress was obviously seriously disturbed!!

The 80's can stay back where they belong thanks very much. It's debilitating enough that my Mum still has a photo of me in that green taffeta bubble dress on her sideboard!

This is a fabulous thread, i love the 80's so much its not funny. I love everyting about definately music etc but the hair the make-up and the clothes were all so bright and flamboyant. I love the 80's unfortunately i was only born mid 80's but i had 5 years of them to enjoy plus i have an old brother 10years my senior and an older sister 15yrs my senior so i didn't really have much choice butto love the eighties.

Ithink the eights have already come back , a couple of years ago plastic jewellery adn blue eye shadow were cool & leg warmers. Now bubble skirts and high waisted.
IT"S ALREADY HERE yayayaya

I love bubble skirts but they don't love my body , but i just dream

BRING BACK THE EIGHTIES !!!!! yayayaya :p

Oh man I hate the 80s and I hate the revival because it makes me feel old. I remember when my mum used to say "oh I used to wear that sort of thing when I was young" and now I find myself saying that same line to my eldest daughter. She showed me this terry towelling short jumpsuit and I nearly died. Hers was green but I had one the same in watermelon. I think I wore it with white strappy cork wedges. :vomit:
Said daughter also talked me into skinny jeans. It took me a while to get the bubblegum jean memory out of my head but I got there. She is wearing the headbands, the big placcy jewellery and wide belts.
A while ago I went out with the girls to a (young people's) bar and I was stressing befehand that I wouldn't know the music but when I got there it was nonstop 80s music complete with the very embarressing filmclips. I knew all the words! Such an age giveaway. I just stood in the corner staring at the videoclips, stunned.

Speaking of Crimpers, I need one for my daughter's 5th birthday. I can't find one anywhere and she wants to look like Bindi Irwin. Has anyone seen them?

I'm back in the skinny jeans too but I don't think I can do bubble skirts or ra-ra skirts this time around :shakehead:

I just remembered what the other colours were in my Nutrimetics eyeshadow compact: frosty lilac and frosty peach

I love 80s music though, it's the BEST!! Foreigner, Cyndi Lauper, Laura Branigan, Pat Benatar, Bon Jovi - I love it all :hearts:

I think I had those impulse deodorants in just about every scent, yech. Definitely reminds me of PE classes. I remember being in hot pink a lot too, and having an enormous "wave" fringe that required endless teasing and about half a can of hairspray every morning.

I can't get back into the skinny jeans but that's cause I'm too darn short! I do envy people who can wear them though.

OMG! I had one of those terry toweling jumpsuits but was 1979 and I was 11!

I loved the 80's, the early ones my high school years (finished HSC in 1985) when Bryan Adams had the hit Summer of 69 which was our anthem.

Loved the Madonna look with that big hair, singlets, rah rah skirts and gloves!:p

More nostalgic about the music though, I love anything from the 80's and have found a club in Melbourne that loves to play them. Love going there occasionally (cant breathe for a week afterwards), knee plays up and get so dehydrated from hours on the dancefloor!:music:

Medusa, those cheapy hair straighteners from Kmart sometimes have a crimper attachment to them, check it out.

Some of my favourite things are
Blue Eyeliner on the inner rim a la Diana Spencer
Tight trousers
The Young Ones (Rick,Mike,Vyvyan and Neil)
Bon Jovis Perm
Records
Decent programmes on the ABC
Hair Metal Bands

Just everything really I swear life was better in the eighties:clapping:

I can remember the 80's. I was a young Mum throughout and I've got pictures of me with this dreadful short perm (I have very thick hair, so when permed, it's really BIG hair!). I remember wearing my very high cut leotards (very Kath 'n Kim), with belt, full makeup, leggings, leg-warmers and high-ankled aerobic boots (very Oliva Newton-John Let's Get Physical) and off I'd go to aerobics and step thinking I was very "in". I also use to wear skirts with ankle-length boots. Thank goodness high waists are coming back in - I need a foot-long fly! I can also remember no mobile phones, no PC's, no email, no plasma TV's, no DVD's. I can remember learning to use the old Mac computers when they first came out with a, wait for it, mouse! Very high tech. Aahh, those were the days.

Oh remember the first mobile phone? The big brick that was attached to the massive battery pack that you had to cart around. Not very mobile.

Oh The Young Ones! I loved that show! Bummer Dude.

Whilst I was out at the shops today, I was astounded just how much 80s revival fashion there is out there, especially in Dotti. That place is just wall to wall embaressing memories. The very young staff were puzzled as to why I was giggleing and continually saying OMG as I looked around the store.
Wide elastic belts, clip on braces, satin bubble dresses :vomit: , raunched ankle boots, BIG buttons, wrap around cardigans & tie around the ankle ballet flats. What is fashion coming to?

Hee hee! My ten year old thinks these are the ultimate in fashion. She gets into their XS or S sizing and just loves "creating" an outfit! Sounds like the full regurgitation of the 80's to me!:shakehead:

I go by the rule 'if you remember it the first time, you're too old to wear it the second time'. Heheh.

Doesn't mean you can't listen to Mondo Rock, Dragon, Aussie Crawl, etc though.

I had the Cutex Blue Opal lipstick and countless nail polishes from Cutex. Also loved by jeans with zips up the side when Mum FINALLY bought them for me. I had some aqua bubblegummer jeans and used to wear boat neck t-shirts with them.

There is a pharmacy nearby that still sells Australis perfume. I am tempted to buy it for novelty factor.

I also had Ken Done sunglasses that were blue with Ken Done fish painted on them. How embarassing!

I remember thinking I was so cool for wearing my very short Tweety t'shirt dress with my white boots with a million of those coloured bangles - and what was with that glitter hair gel ?!!? and not to mention those jumpers with the winged sleeves - Bangers 747 ready to take off!!!! One word.....Daggy, but young and carefree :)

I can't believe skinny jeans are neck and neck in the poll with big jewellery. I'm still in denial that they're back in!

Oh I love my grey skinny jeans right now!! I was really disappointed in the 80's because my mum wouldn't let me have a bubble skirt, she thought they were just awful!! I think I was about 7 at the time and wanted one because all my friends had them and I just wasn't "cool" without one...

I also had hot pink legwarmers and a turquoise Young Talent Time leotard that I wore to ballet lessons, I would have worn the legwarmers elsewhere if I had been allowed to, but once again my mother's good taste prevailed! Had to wear lots of blue eyeshadow for ballet exams and performances though.

I had fluorescent scrunchy socks too, with hi-top sneakers and those fluorescent shoe laces with the sparkly bit through them...

I am scarred for life by that electric blue eyeshadow we had to wear for every dance concert & esteddford. Matched of course with the Fushia Pink lipstick. Thankfully I can still do false eyelashes.

I used to wear a pair of hot pink shiny lycra tights to dancing with purple leg warmers. :vomit:
