hey kate,
I just got my dr hauschka cleansing cream a couple of days ago. Im not sure whether its working on me because even after I wash my face, there's still an oily feeling on my skin. I naturally have oily skin. Is it possible Im not using enough or not using it correctly? I put a 5cent amount and add a bit of water and apply all over my face, am I meant to scrub it?

Hey lovegreys,

The Cleansing Cream doesn't have any detergents in it so it won't remove oils from the skin. It still cleans your skin though! I apply it the same as you, I turn it into a paste with a bit of water and then massage gently all over the face.

You can follow it with a toner if you like, this will remove the "oily feeling" - Dr.Hauschka's toner is very good. Go with the Clarifying one if you have oily skin.

HTH :)

Oh ok.. thanks for the toner advice, i probably should do that. I dont know why but I've been getting some small pimples after using the cleansing cream as my cleanser, feels like i havent cleansed properly but its maybe my skin adjusting.

Yes it does help, Kate, take care!

I tried to love this for months, but just kept suffering breakouts.:( Gave it away in the end - this tube did last, I'll give it that - but something in it made my skin react. In fact I've found that with alot of natural based products....and usually results in big painful blind pimples that continue to come back.

I am always on the hunt for a great milk cleanser too.
I recently used up some samples of the Dermalogica Essential Cleansing Solution. It did a good job without feeling greasy or too dry. It's next on my list.

BuBBLes I can highly recommend the Ultraceuticals Ultra Milk Cleanser too. Have been using it for about two weeks and I love, love, love it. Usually prefer a foaming cleanser for my combo skin but this has rocked my world! Skin is clear, smooth and really hydrated - you hardly need any moisturiser (the soy extract kicks butt). Also you get a huge bottle so it'll last for ages. Have put a full review in the U/C thread if you're interested...

LB, after two weeks you should be noticing some difference.

It is so funny that after such great results with Alph-H, I allowed an SA to convince me the Estee Lauder product was the best eye product on the market. When will I learn to just go with the results?

Medusa, I got to test the Dermalogica Skin Hydrating serum tonight. It also contains hyaluronic acid (like your Cellex). Funny what you say Ozzie. I am a huge Dermalogica fan but a lot of people I know can't put Dermalogica eye products anywhere near them as they have an instant reaction. I react terribly to the Mutilvitamin Power Firm Eye Cream and The Total Eye Care but the Intensive Eye Repair doEsn't react at all and is one of my favourite eye creams.

Ladyver, can you describe the Cinque Mondes cleanser?

it's a fruit oil based cleanser (mango and passionfruit) which removes makeup, is very gentle on the skin & eyes and is completely removed with water. it is fairly $$ but i think worth it because i only need to cleanse once and there is no need for another eye makeup remover or second cleanser & it has lasted me a few months. oh, and it smells nice too!

i have to admit that i followed the instructions exactly (which is a bit sad, but fun) - warming a little in the palms of my hands and applying to a dry face & eyes - massage gently to budge makeup - and rinse with water.

no SLS, silicone, mineral oils, colouring or animal-based ingrediants

No I didnt, just got wide-eyed when I saw the word Paste in ladyver's post! The website likens it to the Eve Lom!

I have got to get some of this Eve Lom. Reckon it would work for combo skin LB?

In my opinion, RBB, oily and combo skins should not be scared of oil. Years ago I used to sell a Clarins Product called Lotus Oil which is great for regulating oily skin types. It would be very hard to convince an oily skined person to "apply" oil but sure enough, had great results with.

This Eve Lom is an oily paste (looks VERY unappealing!) that you smear on farily thickly and follow her lymphatic drainage movements. It is then washed of, albeit with a fairly lengthy routine of warm water and three compresses, then circular movements then cold compress.

Those who try it though, are hooked but a tad pricey at 45 pounds plus 15 for delivery (and that's for the small jar!). Vogue called it the best cleanser in the world.

hi RBB, unfortunately i have never tried the eve lom cleanser - would love to though - but i think the lesson i am learning is that if an oil based cleanser completely washes off in water then it is ok for combo skin. if it doesn't, then i keep it for eyes only (if it's gentle)

Thanks for this. I had been a bit scared of oil but then again, was also a bit scared of actives and look how well that worked out! Willing to try just about anything thanks to this forum.

Very interesting, will pop it onto the 'must-try' list. Don't suppose there's anywhere in Australia that sells it - online or via UK only? Perhaps I should conjure a London trip around the sampling  pardner might have something to say about that though!

Exactly! Because it is a cleanser and you remove it properly, no oily residue should be left on your skin. All you feel is "soft as a baby's bum" skin. Oily cleansers are far superior in how they cleanse and remove makeup. Do keep the Eve Lom one away from eyes though, it actually has eucalyptus and rosemary oils in it.

No! Was NOT saying that!:chuckle: Gosh, should be more careful how I word my posts!

AHA's are great for most skins and you know I am a fan of them. They help shed dead skin cells (or rather the "glue") that holds them together) to reveal fresher, newer skin. As we age, the rate of which our skin renews itself slows down. They really help to even the skin tone and texture too.

Which one? Either one, my preferred is still LG.

Lush is full of dodgy products though which sort of irks me as I see them as being 'natural' - but they're not! Full of SLS etc!

some of them are indeed filled with chemical nasties but I am hopeful that they may reformulate some products like theyre trying to make more and more soaps without palm oil. no preservatives in their facial cleansers with exception to ultra bland. no preservatives in their solid shampoo either - although some contain SLS... I dont like the fact they use parabens in their facial moisturisers but out of the products I use the moisturiser and shampoo are the only ones that dont have the greatest ingredients lists. AOBS is wholesome, no nasties - and it has to be one of their best products...

The impression they put out there for their market perception is that of natural goodness.

You mightn't, but it's true. They do have a 'holier than thou all natural' image (in my eyes anyway!)

Yeah I've realised this, but they products that don't work a treat! Like AOBS, that's just a great all round product

I wouldn't say holier than natural, I mean they do list their ingredients quite visibly compared to other "natural" products and for that I think that makes them alot better then other brands. You just have to read the labels really. There are some crap stuff though, there body washes are terrible!!
And don't get me started on the SA's!!!! Those girls are terrible!

I quite enjoy Lush mainly because I love anything that smells sickly sweet and is brightly coloured. I think it's totally a matter of personal choice and like all brands some things are good and others aren't. You just have to find what works for you.

If your skin is a bit on the dry side try the baby face cleanser. I only use it when my skin is massively dehydrated. It comes in a bar and it seriously leaves my skin feeling like a babies bottom.

i can only speak of TBS back many moons ago , but back then i remember Anita Roddick saying & it was quoted to us [staff] , something along the lines of , we r not a natural company , we r fun , my stuff is highly coloured & fragranced & could never be considered natural , this is just peoples perceptions of TBS

this is going back more than 11 yrs ago though

I :hearts: Lush. They've always been upfront about not testing on animals, but IMO I don't think they market themselves as 'all natural' and SLS, paraben-free etc. Use of some natural ingredients, yes, but not all-natural.

Used the last of my Alpha-H glycolic balancing moisturiser, I like this one, esp at night, works well to unclog my skin and keep it hydrated when used along with other glycolic based products (such as the Alpha-H mask and MD Formulations face and body scrub).

what I meant was that I know you'd quoted littlemissv but in my opinion .... lush AOBS, not sure what littlemissv thinks though ... check out her thread on lush ... herbalism is meant for oilier skintypes.

if you to the the american lush website they have a skintype and product list see go look here

Well i really like herbalism!
I don't find it drying at all and takes all the yuckies off my skin.
Its a bit hard to get used to though. You only use a small blob and you have to put 1 or 2 drops of water in it and mush it all around lol.
I've tried AOBS too and i enjoyed. It made my skin super soft but i think my skin got used to it after a while so i changed to Herbalism.
I'll probably try something else once my new pot of herbalism runs out ;)

Celeste I'm using the C-Sheer cream at the moment. If you don't have a night moisturiser you love at the moment I would recommend this.

Celeste(Staff)
04-01-2008, 04:28 PM
Oh really? May well. I don't tend to moisturise at night, just cleanse tone and apply ESTS. Can you apply the C-Sheer over ESTS, do you know??

Luisa Brown
04-01-2008, 04:31 PM
You can but your skin may be a bit prickly. I find this even from using the Ultra C sheer alone.

By all means, use it at night but even though it stays in your system for at least a couple of days, Vitamin C creams are great in the morning to assist your sunscreen and natural skin protection from free radicals.

Celeste(Staff)
04-01-2008, 04:33 PM
So could I use it under the 30+ moisturiser and Becca primer?? Or would it be better used as the moisturiser on it's own?

So could I use it under the 30+ moisturiser and Becca primer?? Or would it be better used as the moisturiser on it's own?

Yes, definitley untder sunscreen and primer. It is sheer and non greasy but will help attack free radicals during daylight hours. Save your ESTS for evening.

Ok cool - might be the way to incorporate it into my regime! Have been considering swapping the UC range for Alpha H though and I just get so confused. I was loving UC but am wondering if I've hit a plateau?? My skin hasn't been terrible but it hasn't been great recently either

Luisa Brown
04-01-2008, 05:06 PM
The Alpha H range is great for skin needing a bit of a change and results are noticeable really quickly. They do tend to rely heavily on AHA based products so please research them before doing the overload. In my opinion their Vital C is not a patch on the UC one though because of its concentration and delivery system.

I dont mean to nag or bother you, but you must visit origins counter and try a couple of the products, ask for the SA's to dispense some product into the little containers for you!...

if your looking for products to brighten and make your skin look great...

You can but your skin may be a bit prickly. I find this even from using the Ultra C sheer alone.

I use the Ultra C Sheer and was expecting it to feel like my skin wasn't used to it. I used it every second morning for a week and then upped it to daily, and it still feels the same as it ever did! Was I "supposed" to feel a tingle, or at least a warm feeling like the directions on the package indicated?

I also found this when I introduced ESTS - not one single tingle! Perhaps the PH of my skin didn't need much readjusting?
