Just bought Nars Oil Free Foundation: fantastic colors, so easy to apply, doesn't seem to streak, evens out skin tone, doesn't gum up wrinkles :p stays put and comes off so easily. And it feels so light on my skin. Big thumbs up!

I have quite a few NARS products, but thought I would review the Demon Lover eyeshadow duo.
I went out on a limb on this -- its a purple and blue combo!
I love wearing the blue, even with my blue eyes (thought that would be a big no-no) and use the purple to line the top of the eyes. The colours is more like a shadow, and as with all NARS shadows, builds really quickly.
Thumbs up!

Luisa - HAHAHAAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAH! Love it - will buy it purely for that hehe. Like when the admin chick at work asked what I wore on my cheeks and I replied "orgasm". She was horrified - i had to take out my blush and show her.

:chuckle:That Nars Orgasm blush does get people talking doesn't it?
I love Nars products - probably my favourite brand. I don't have the Orgasm blush - I have Deep Throat which I got as a pack with the Striptease lipgloss from Mecca.
I probably have more Nars products than any other brand in my makeup collection. The quality of the products overall is brilliant - I especially love their eyeshadows. I have Lola Lola, Faith and Night Star. I have yet to purchase a Duo Eyeshadow because I can't quite bring myself to pay $74 for an eyeshadow, even though I know you get 2 shades and I know I won't be disappointed with the quality. I need to find a colour that I know I will use until it's run out, because I tend to get bored easily with colours and put certain colours to the side for a while (sometimes I never even use them again!).
I also have their Oil free foundation, Liquid eyeliner in black, Lipgloss in 'Harlow', Loose powder (the best I've ever tried), the Multiple in 'Maldives', Lipstick in 'Catfight', Lip Lacquer in 'Chelsea Girls' and 'Galactica', Velvet matte lip pencil in 'Marina', 'Laguna' bronzer (also the best I've ever used). Phew! I think that's about all (for now!!).
Has anyone had much experience with the cream eyeshadows? I've read mixed reviews about them - some saying that they are great, some saying that they crease easily.

Blue Melon - How do you find the Velvet Matte lip pencil? I've had my eye on that.
Considering it has a matte finish, it applies quite smoothly & has a creamy texture - it doesn't feel dry. It also has good staying power. The only thing I find is that my lips need to be properly moisturised/exfoliated before applying, because this colour in particular can emphasise lines and any dry spots. But being a pencil makes it handy, because you can line and fill with the same product - I am considering buying another one - probably Cafe Con Leche or Tortola.

I have a Velvet Matte pencil in one of the red shades. Bluemelon is right... it is handy but it's like an old fashioned lipstick in that it shows your lip texture. It is a great product, the shade I have is really full on but I got some good comments. I'm used to sheer lipsticks or gloss so it's quite different.

I have got the Laguna bronzer & I love it :) I'm fairly pale with yellow tones & this isn't too dark for me - Laguna is the lighter one of the two, Casino is the darker. It has a little gold shimmer in it, but it's not over-shimmery like some bronzers. I use it mainly for contouring, but also sometimes to give me some extra colour all over. It's my HG bronzer :worship:

No worries - I doubt you'll be disappointed if you get it - this one isn't orangey like some. The only thing to remember is that it's highly pigmented (as with other Nars products), so a little goes a long way. I literally tap the ends of my bronzing brush in the palette so they are lightly covered, and then apply. Then it's easy to build from there if that isn't enough. I don't use the thin sponge that comes with it - you get much better control and more natural coverage with a brush.

i have had a play with my new Nars lipsticks and glosses yesterday. love the textures!!!! the sheer lipstick is so light it doesn't feel like you are wearing anything on your lips!!!!!!!!! also i am normally reluctant to wear gloss, but i could see myself wearing these all the time because they don't have the the tacky gloopy feeling (is gloopy a word?), they're not OTT like many glosses so i can wear them to work every day and they're super easy to apply evenly and without mucking up your previous layers. didn't really test staying power - but think would last well, but need reapplying after lunch.
here are the cominations i have tried so far. i applied duwop's sheer wax lipliner as base.
Dolce Vita lipstick: sheer lipstick described as 'dusty rose'. Alone its a great YLBB as mentioned by Vee in the other thread. it's as light as a feather too, lovely texture so you don't feel like you're wearing anything!!!!
- DV lipstick + tempest lip gloss, described as 'warm rose' provides a glossy YLBB!!!!!
- DV lipstick + talitha lip gloss, described as 'deep rose', provides a deep glossy colour - somewhere between rose and berry, fab! actually if anyone has the NW Hair & Beauty mag, see scarlett's lips on p 32, scarily similar
Pigalle lipstick: matt lipstick described as 'pink chocolate', a mauve rose colour. had been searching for a colour like this for ages. opaque matt finish.
- pigalle lipstick + tempst lip gloss. this combo gives what i would describe as a traditional rose colour
Niagara lipstick: satin lipstick described as 'pinkish coral'. i think this a great colour and finish for those who like the pink/coral colours that have been in for a while but don't want the full-on strong matt colour/ finish
i should mention that i found the descriptions on the Nars website are very accurate of the colour when applied. so i am glad i bought online because i probably wouldn't have tried some of them in store based on the colour in the tube

Great review Ladyver! I think I need a Nars fix & have been 'stalking' the Nars website looking at colours. I think another lacquer and/or gloss will be on the list. I'm also looking for a dark grey eyeshadow so I can do a grey smokey eye. I figured I would try get a Nars one, because the last thing you want when wearing dark coloured eyeshadows is blotchy application and creasing. And I know I don't get that with Nars.
I've got a Stila one at the moment, but it has got the slightest tinge of blue in it & I'm after just a plain grey. Was looking at the 'Paris' eyeshadow duo maybe. The Thunderball single one is similar to the Stila one I have - has that slight blue tinge.

Thanks RB :) That makes me think that it will end up in my letterbox - I've had a couple of O/S packages arrive in A5 padded envelopes & that's where the postie ended up putting them. I've got a small letterbox too, but he still tries to fit them in, or he leaves them by the front door. I only ordered a duo eyeshadow, a lip lacquer and 2 eyeshadow brushes, so probably won't be too big a package. I'll have to make sure I keep my ear out for the postie each day from next week!

Well, it's been nearly 3 weeks since I placed my order, and nothing yet. Starting to get a bit worried. I was really hoping to get it by today so I could use the products this weekend, but doesn't look like it's going to happen :shakehead:
Was hoping to do a grey smokey eye with the Paris eyeshadow duo....looks like I'm going to have to re-think that one........
Don't you hate when you have it in your head that a package will come by a certain time, and it doesn't?? I was like that with Falling in Love when I was waiting for it from....the place from which I ordered it.

Yeah - I thought I had ordered early enough to get it by this weekend. Maybe not.....
I've had stuff come from London within a week - just in those regular padded bags, nothing special. I'm thinking the delay is from the sender's end for some reason.....I'll have to e-mail her I think...

Darnit bm. Yes, definitely email her. I think I've mentioned before that my packages have taken a least a few weeks, so try not to worry too much. Mail from the US has been super-slow lately too.
It's really offputting that it takes so long, if only the prices weren't so cheap!

Done - I sent an e-mail. But I don't understand why they send you a link to check the progress of your order, when the order status is just blank....
Hmmm... at one stage I thought I should have just got them from here. But just the duo eyeshadow and the lip lacquer would have cost me over $120. For less than that, I also was able to get 2 Nars brushes from this place!

I don't understand why it takes so long really. They dispatch it, and then WHERE IS IT for the next three weeks?! Especially when you know it's coming from the US West Coast!

Hey Oz, I was reading some other people's experiences with the seller online, and apparently its not just the post office thats making it take a long time - some people have checked the postage marks and realised their packages were sent weeks after payment was received. I know thats not much comfort but maybe try and send her a couple of emails and see whether your package has been dispatched. I ordered mine a week ago but I am definitely not expecting it for a while based on your experience lol...

I have a feeling it goes by land rather than air/priority. Maybe that's why the shipping is so cheap!
You can ask for a faster service but have to pay more for it. Probably not all that well-advertised on the site though.
I haven't had any problems with the seller and to be honest, while frustrating, I am prepared to wait longer than usual to get what are very well-priced products that cost double here.
What I don't like is when Aussie sites take weeks and weeks - now there really is no excuse for that! I won't name names, but you all know who I'm talking about!
PS we love you Adore!

I have been doing a bit of reading & it does seem to be a general pattern that the delay is from the sender & not the postal service. The packages seem to only take about a week to actually get delivered.
I'm thinking that there may be issues with stock, but she doesn't notify buyers that she is waiting for stock, so they are kept waiting for ages. It has to explain why some people have received their order in a week's time, but others have waited almost 2 months! Oh well, I'll see what happens with mine.

Mecca had the Orgasm/Laguna duo & they sold out. But there is still the odd one left in stores & if you ring the mail order team, they can track one down for you. Not sure exactly what the price is though - probably around $70. That o/s place doesn't seem to have them.
It's unusual that this product was limited edition, seeing as Orgasm and Laguna are two of the biggest sellers. I would buy one, but I already have Laguna - my absolute HG bronzer - I love it :)

Well, I just got a response e-mail from her & it was no help whatsoever. I said to her that I understood that delivery to Australia takes a while, but I just wanted to know when my order had been sent.
All she replied was that because they used shipping which might take longer (5 days up to 4 weeks), the shipping cost was kept low. And if I wanted expedited shipping next time, to let her know.
That wasn't what I asked!
So you know what I think? I think that she hasn't even sent it yet. I reckon it's still there & she'll send it next week, so I'll receive it the week after (ie it will be at least 4 weeks since I ordered). I've had stuff sent from the US in just plain padded envelopes, and they take just under a week. So I kind of don't believe what she's saying, especially after reading other people's experiences & how their parcels were stamped 2 to 3 weeks after she said she had posted them...........

Thanks RB :) Well, I ended up doing a brown smokey eye last night for this 21st birthday I went to. I used the Stila smokey eyeshadow palette & it turned out quite nice - I did use a primer underneath, and it lasted all night with no creasing. That was my main concern & the reason why I wanted Nars especially, as I know I can rely on their lasting power.
But I did still use a few Nars products (of course) & one of the newer ones I used was the lipgloss/lipstain duo in Metis/Victoire. The Metis lipgloss is quite sheer, unlike the Harlow and Striptease lipglosses I have which are pretty opaque. That was fine with me, because seeing as my eye makeup was on the darkish side, I wanted a lipgloss which was very natural. So I put a little of the Striptease on first, then put the Metis on top & it turned out quite nice.
Just before I removed my makeup last night (or this morning lol!), I thought I would try the Victoire stain - whoah is it intense. You only need a very small amount, as a little goes a long way. Lucky I didn't use this on my lips earlier, as it was too full-on with the smokey eye look. But nice colour though - a berry-brown colour,

If he thinks I have been excessive he will have a go at me and say "ease up I'm trying to save for our future and you are burning cash like petrol" I just go blah blah blah and move on to my parents card which I am allowed to use for essentials (which of course are beauty products) oh and then there's my owm debit card I can always rely on for emergencies!!!:chuckle:

I guess it is difficult especially when you have children and a family to support. Making the old mighty dollar stretch can be so hard especially with interest rates the way they are at the moment. I hop he does allow you treats every now and then for all the hard work you do running the house and looking after the kids.

Oh my Dad used to do this to my mum back when you could first get statements online in like 98. It would cause huge fights because he was so controlling with money, even though she worked just as hard as he did. Men seem to have this idea that because women's purchases tend to be smaller but more numerous, that they are 'worse' than men who spend large amounts less often. Used to make my mum so cranky and it makes me cranky too!

(OK, just re-posting my other post which I asked to be put in the scrap heap).
For those of you that are concerned about your Nars order & are trying to get in contact with that company - don't use the e-mail address you have previously used - that person is gone (she didn't actually run the business - she just worked for them, so don't worry!). I never got a response to the message I sent the other day, so sent an e-mail to the one on the Paypal receipt (which is the owner's direct e-mail) & got a response very quickly. But there is now a new e-mail address on the website to send e-mails to - use that one.
The owner was going to follow up my order, as things were a bit messy & she wasn't 100% sure what had happened to it. But surprisingly, my order turned up today!!!! According to the postage stamp, it was only posted last week, even though I ordered nearly 5 weeks ago!! So really, it looks like shipping only takes about a week! Oh well, I finally got it (phew!),

So pleased that everyone's orders have arrived. Woo hoo!
Just a wee reminder that it will take time - that's why shipping is so cheap. I've made a few orders and they rarely arrive within two weeks. Better to manage expectations at the outset so you're not disappointed.

Hopefully things will run much smoother from now on & orders won't take as long. The owner was upset and angry about the way orders had been handled up to now, but she was very helpful towards me and her customer service was great.
The reason I was so upset was because when I enquired a couple of weeks ago about the whereabouts of my order (ie whether it had been posted or not), I was told that because of cheap shipping, it would take up to a month to get here. I wasn't told that yes it's been posted, or no, it hasn't. That's all I wanted to know. I would have been willing to wait 2 months if I had been told that perhaps there were some stock issues with my order & it hadn't been posted, or something like that. But the delay seems to have been blamed on the postal service, when in fact it only takes a week to get here from the time it is posted.
Boy was I not happy yesterday when I saw the date on the postage stamp! (ie last Thursday's date). Oh well, it's here now at least. Not sure if I'll be ordering from there again - if any of you place an order from now on, let me know how you go with it.

Thanks - that looks quite nice. I've got the Deep Throat blush (my only blush :redcheeks:), which is really nice. It's a less pinky version of Orgasm, but I'm just not comfortable with wearing it, as my cheeks are normally a bit red as it is & I get too scared it's going to overdo it.

A green powder or forumluation would neautralise the red, but I reckong just dusting something over like Deep Throat or Luster woul round out the redness and make for a pretty, natural flush that would glow.
The owner emails me and my order has been shipped, so hopefully it's here this week!

hey bluemelon, i think you should go for it! i go red at the drop of a hat and bright red when i am embarressed/ nervous about something - pretty much every time i go to a meeting or do a presentation at work, talk to a cute guy etc.. etc.. it's soooo annoying!
i actually find that wearing blush helps make my going red easily a bit less noticable because its more prominent - though maybe that's just what i tell myself :chuckle:

:chuckle: That's a good way to think of it! Mine is just constant - just like I've been out in the sun for a few minutes and got that slightest flush of pink. And heat really gets to me easily, so they become even more flushed during summer, and also during winter when heaters are on.
Thanks for the tips everyone - will try a few different things. I just love the concept of blush, and how it looks on everyone else. I can see why so many people have so many blushes in their makeup collection! I'll have to play around with the Deep Throat blush & try find a way to make it work on my face.

If you already have it give it a go. I've always found that anything too extreme just backfires for me. Do you normally use a pink based foundation? If so maybe try a yellow based one, MAC and Shiseido have good yellow based foundations in a range of colours. This might be better than using Lemon Aid over a large area? Just some thoughts...

It's pretty close, but I don't think it's quite as pink IRL as it looks there. More on the peachy side, and quite shimmery.

Definitely use yellow based foundation, as my skin tone is yellow. I'll just try putting a bit of Lemon Aid over the cheek area - hopefully should do the trick. And I'll try the tip I read in the Becca thread about applying blush and then dusting with loose powder over the top to soften it a bit. Awesome, thank you! Did you hear about Mecca hosting the NARS national makeup artist? For $50 you get an hour with him and you get to walk away with a lip gloss. Had my NARS makeover at MECCA this afternoon :penguin:
I love my 'look'. It's very English rose - flushed cheeks and stained lips, with a neutral eye. They used:
- Oil free foundation, Mont Blanc (me likey!)
- Concealer, Vanilla
- Powder, Flesh
- Cream single e/s, Penelope (a very pale pink)
- Powder e/s duo, Sugarland (lavender and gold)
- Cream single e/s as liner, Zardoz (black)
- Mascara
- Cream blush, Montenegro (berry)
- Lip Gloss, Daredevil + Sandpiper duo (just Daredevil - it's a deep berry stain)
- Lip Gloss, Rose Gitane (their new one, it is divine!).
Am surprised how well the e/s works with the strong lips and cheeks. I bought the gloss but will wait for other stuff. Have been naughty lately and must be strong! :redcheeks:
Will recreate over the weekend and post a pic.
Woot woot!

Oh my GOD, I love the sound of a pink, lavender and gold eye. I am so doing this. Can you describe how it was done? Did you take a pic? I would love to try to recreate.
RBB it sounds beautiful. I love the names - Mont Blanc, Vanilla and Sugarland. Enough to almost make me want to buy it!

I was a bit sceptical but it works because the shades are really sheer; the pink is just a hint, and it makes the others pop.
I like the names too. Marketing and PR eh, who'd get into it?:chuckle:

Wow RB, that sounds really nice. Did you like the texture of the oil-free foundation? I have it in Deauville, which is yellow based & is a nice colour for me. But I just find that I have to work very quickly to blend it because it 'sets' in place very quickly.
Would love to see a pic - those eyeshadow colours sound really nice!

Completely agree bm! The foundation looks great on but it did set super-fast. I'd like to try the balanced one, maybe it's a bit more dewy?
