The gals back stage knit these days, loose leaf tea is beating up the oversized soy latte with its sturdy walking stick while the home made cup cake is spanking the bottom of the naughty tarts in your high street café.

Old fashioned lace knickers have elbowed their way past the boring boy leg undies. Electric blankets have been booted from the bedroom by the humble hot water bottle. Floral is hip and tinned bikkies are best served in a cute apron. The nanna is queen of the hipsters and everyone wants to get their hands on her or what she left behind. Who doesn’t get a little thrill at the term 'deceased estate'?

The magazines are embracing their inner nan and encouraging you to do..

Beautywise: one of my nana's never went a day not using Nivea Creme from head to toe! and my other Nana who is still around has always had a pot of nutrimetics cream on the bathroom sink for as long as I can remember.

I've always loved a lovely drink of Pimms. My Nana (my she be looking down at me smiling!) introduced this to me when I was in my teens, I thought it was such a treat. In the summer time I by my self a bottle and enjoy a drink of this most summer evenings... My other Nana introduced me to Whiskey (thats my winter spirit).

Nana's are the best. the good, the frustrating and the crazy!

Great article Allison.

I have my great-Nanna's knitted blanket here somewhere. My Nan made it for her mother when she (Great Nan) was very old and frail. The blanket itself is very old & frail, so doesn't get used, but I love it.
