Hi Allison

I was told I could get some advice from you. I posted on this thread earlier ... http://forum.adorebeauty.com.au/showthread.php?t=2928 but I'll copy and paste the post.

I have read rave reviews about Ole Henriksen, as well as Aesop products. I'm currently on Ella Bache, and have been for the past 10 years. I was once told by a "beautician" that EB products uses very old technology. Old technology or not, it suited my skin, and it turned my skin around for me when I was having lots of trouble with it.

Nevertheless, I felt that my skin has now "got used" to their products, and it feels like a change (apart from the fact that they are getting more and more exxy). It could well be my excuse for retail therapy, but it's my story and I'm sticking to it.

My skin... where do I begin? It's seasonal. In autumn/winter, it gets dry (and probably dehydrated as well), and my skin feels 'scaly' and peels around the nose and cheeks every now and then. In spring/summer, it gets slightly oily around the Tzone and front of cheeks, just very slight. So for a few years now, I will use a different cleanser for 6 months, to suit my skin for that season. I was also told that this could happen to some people (maybe they just want to sell their products... who knows).

Apart from those characteristics, you might also want to know that my skin is a little sensitive too. I once tried Origin products (who claims that they are natural and gentle) and I had to return them because it was causing redness and flakiness. I've also tried some products with 1% Beta Hydroxy Acid and it was stinging my face. I've also tried shelve products, eg Nivea, Loreal...etc, not to my liking.

So as you can tell, my skin is just plain fussy. To all you wonderful ladies and beauty gurus out there, can someone shed some light on which brand I should go for? Ole Henriksen or Aesop? Or even something else? Which cleanser, which toner, which moisturiser, which mask.... etc etc.

One of the replies to that thread recommended Dr Hauschka too. Now I'm even more confused :chuckle: ... which brand should I try? To add to that, I have enlarged pores on my cheeks, and the occasional blackhead and/or pimple makes an appearance too. If it helps, I'm 38.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

I just read some other posts and see that they all have very serious routines. I thought I'll write down my routine for you anyway :)

A.M.
Ella Bache Lait Enrichi Requin (moisture-rich cleansing milk)
Loreal Visible Results moisturiser (with SPF15) / QV Face Moisturising Day Cream with SPF 30+

P.M.
Ella Bache Lait Enrichi Requin
Loreal Visible Results moisturiser
Ella Bache Special Eye Creme

I am guilty of not using a exfoliator and mask weekly due to plain laziness. I use the Ella Bache Revitalisant (exfoliant) and Masque Fruits (which I'm not too pleased with, still prefer the Energising Creme Mask). At the moment, Loreal moisturiser is doing an OK job but I used to LOVE the Ella Bache Creme Intex. I changed only because it's getting way too expensive. Hence, huge price tag is also a concern for me.

Hope that helps.

If your skin has a tendency to be reactive to hydroxy acids we can start you off on something like an Ole Henriksen program to see how you go with milder formulations.

Right now being that winter is nearing it sounds like you will be heading into your dehydration phase so I am going to recommend products that will help to keep your skin feeling supple and prevent aging.

Am
cleanse with the apricot cleansing lotion:

apply the visual truth eye cream: http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=6307

apply the truth serum:http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=2633

follow with
the express thel truth moisturiser: http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=6308

finish with a light sunscreen like the Becca primer SPF 30+: http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=11020

PM
cleanse as above

follow with your eye cream

follow with the pure perfection moisturiser: http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=2628
this contains a very mild amount of AHA to improve the skin.

that is a nice simple start to get things going for now. for the first week or two use the pure perfection moisturiser evey second night. In it's place just use the express the truth moisturiser.

Hi Allison, thank you very much for your recommendation. When I was looking at OH products, the products I thought would suit me are completely different from the ones you've suggested! :chuckle: Just goes to show that I have no idea. :shakehead:

Just out of curiosity, could you tell me why you think they won't suit my skin? I looked at:
1. On the Go Cleanser
2. Pick Me Up tonic
3. Herbal Day Creme/Nurture Me
4. Blue/Black berry enzyme mask

Don't get me wrong, I'm not disputing your recommendation, just want to know where I went wrong selecting the products. Also I am so glad you didn't suggest a toner, because I just don't have the habit of using one. ;)

Thank you.

Michelle

Oh... I forgot to ask... does Adore Beauty have samples of these products I can purchase? The prices of these products are a bit on the steep side and if they don't suit my skin, it would be rather pocket-damaging. :redcheeks: thanks

Hi there,

those products that you selected could be used on your skin and would be absoutely fine, however the ones I chose have a bit more oomph to them and involve some mild hydroxy acids and vitamins.

I chose the apricot cleanser because you have a tendency for dehydrated sensitive skin. The herbal day cream is a nice simple choice but the moisturisers and serums that I chose have a little more to them.

That mask is great if you want to go ahead with a mask also. I don't always recommend toners but yes the toner is fine too.

We have testers of those products in store but they don't do samples. here is some more info on our samples at adore, they change depending on what we are supplied with: http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=9072
