My nails kept crumbling and splitting - so much so I was wearing Bandaids on four fingers to try and keep the nails intact. It was painful and ugly and mystifying - my nails had always been strong. Must be a pregnancy malady, I thought. It was only three or four weeks later that I twigged: I'd committed a beautifying blooper and now I was paying the price.
