I am relatively new to the Alpha-H range. However once I became a member of the forum I realised from all the rave reviews I was obviously missing out on some great products. Here is what I have purchased from the Alpha-H range so far:

Liquid Gold - I only use my Liquid Gold every now and then because I think my skin might be a little too sensitve for it. I love the tingle when I apply it!

Rejuvinating Cream - Again I also haven't used a lot of this since my embarrassing overdose of Alpha Hydroxy Acids. I am planning to re-introduce it to my regime gradually.

Glycolic Mask - This is one of the best masks I have ever used! I have only used it once but it made my skin feel better than any other mask has before. My skin felt baby soft and well hydrated!

Balancing Cleanser - This is such a nice cleanser. It's like a lotion to apply. It cleanses very well removing makeup and daily grime and is very gentle.

Microcleanse - My new favourite scrub! I love the tingle I get when I am massaging it on my face. After use my skin felt so fresh and soft.

Hydra Defense Serum - I was told to massage this in to damp skin. After overdoing the aha's I used this to nurse my skin back to good health. I massage it in to damp skin and my skin instantly feels hydrated and calmer.

Hydramist - If you are looking for a great little toner try this one. It's only around $20 and it smells lovely (contains lavender). It is hydrating, soothing and refreshing.

Unfortunately these products didn't suit my skin at all. They were either too drying or too rich.
I found the cleansers particularly difficult one being too harsh the other too rich to get the oil off my skin

The body products however work well especially the Body Moisturiser

I've been using the Alpha H products (for acne prone skin) for a few weeks now.. at first I found they were a bit strong for my skin as it made me get more breakouts. So I stopped using the moisturiser twice a day and went to once a day (now i just use sunscreen in the morning) and everything is back to normal.

The mirco cleanse is great - i love the peppermint smell and how soft my skin is afterwards.

I also adore the triple action cleanser - have not used another cleanser that actually REMOVES all my makeup - and with just a small amount.

The masks are lovely too - i save these for when I'm having a pampering night in on a weekend and treat myself once a week. My skin has never felt so soft after using these.

I'll definately be re-purchasing and even trying other products in the range.

I am an Alpha-H convert! It's really helped my breakout-prone skin...

Triple Action Cleanser, its so gentle yet removes all my makeup - and you only need to use a little bit...
Liquid Gold - found this quite strong, so I only use this a couple times a week
Purifying Clay Mask - lovely! I love the soothing smell
Balancing Moisturiser and Gentle Exfoliant - this is my favourite moisturiser I use it everyday
Rejuvenating Cream - I don't think my skin liked this. Made the area on the side of my nose sting.
Anti-Age Serum - got this as a sample. I'm still unsure, I don't know if I like it on it's own so I mix it occasionally with my moisturiser.

Definately sticking to this line! :waving:

Jaime, you need to put the Alpha H Hydrating mask on your list - it is definitely a stand-out product.

I have been using Alpha H intermittently over the last four years and apart from a change in the Liquid Gold will always have several of these products in my drawers. Love them and the difference they make to my skin. If you have issues with acne, scarring, dryness, uneven skin tone or pigmentation they are certainly a range to consider. :waving:

I used my Alpha-H Calming and Hydrating Therapy Mask for the first time last night and I love it. It's a really refreshing gel texture and felt really soothing on my skin. I left it on for about 20 minutes (instead of the recommended 10) and when I took it off my skin felt so plump and hydrated. This is a godsend sice the anaesthetics I have had have made my skin really dry!

I have not made a secret about loving this range. i swear by the Triple action Cleanser, although my skin is sensitive/combination this product is perfect for me. I love the Liquid Harmony in the morning, the Eye Gel and Luminescent Eye cream, Liquid Gold four nights each week to refine my skin and White Liquid Gold occaisionally to restore my skin. The Microcleanse is fabulous, but most of all I just adore the Vitamin Serums, A at night, Vital C & E pressed into the skin daily.

Their new product, Dual Resurfacing Pads are amazing, soaked in Liquid Gold, one side of the pad is knobbed and the other side smooth.

I wasn't impressed with the neck cream as it seemed quite dry although it smells beautifully of lavender.

Another fan of Alpha H here. My favourite is the Microcleanse, which I use twice a week, and I also love the Purifying Clay Mask. Am keen to try Liquid Gold after all the rave reviews. But unfortunately my skin didn't like the Triple Action Cleanser and Balancing Moisturiser. Horses for courses I guess!

I just ordered a some things from Alpha-H. I got Liquid Harmony, and Liquid Gold. I hear that you can use Harmony first if you have sensitive skin and then introduce your skin to Gold... which I will try.
I also got White Gold for my Dad, who have pigmentation problems on his face and asked me to find him something to get rid of it!!:)

06-02-2007, 11:07 PM
VeeE, Liquid Harmony is full of botanicals and does not have glycolics and recommended for day, whereas the Liquid Gold has glycolics which give it intensity best applied at night and should not be warn by day without sunscreen protection.

Let us know your Dads progress with the Liquid Gold! :D

Liquid Harmony does have glycolic, but it's heavily buffered (which means it has a much higher pH than Liquid Gold), which means it's less acidic, which means it's less likely to irritate sensitive skin. :)

Weirdly, sometimes Alpha H is a bit harsh for my skin, although my skin has moods. Sometimes its really sensitive and dry and sometimes its not. It all depends whether my thyroid is playing up.

Ive tried these products

Alpha-H 10% Balancing Moisturiser & Gentle Exfol. I quite liked this although it gave me dry itchy patches.

Body polish and body zone. I liked the one which was body moisturiser but not the scrub one. I cant remember which was which.

15%mask(I think thats the one). Great but I only leave on for a maximum of five minutes

Liquid Gold. Really great but I like to add rose hip oil on top of it so its not so harsh.

Better results are obtained from Liquid Gold if you do not put anything on top but great idea to use the Rosehip Oil over it for sensitive skins. It does "dilute" the product though.

Hi jaime!

If your skin can tolerate it I would definitely use the Liquid Gold each night or alternative nights. The glycolic acid helps to not only refine your skin texture but helps keep dead skin cells at bay that could clog pores and lead to breakouts. The ingredients also help to brighten the skin and reduce pigmentation. Are you using any other products with AHA's?

Despite my obvious displeasure (and a fair bit of ranting if you recall!) about the new formula, it is still a fabulous product and worthy of inclusion in your skin care routine. The old formula provided more of a sting factor (in a good way!) and in my sister's case, more of a result on her congested forehead. The new formula has some sort of "buffering", perhaps to make it more comfortable to use. The results can vary somewhat whether you "dilute" it with a moisturiser on top, or as the bottle suggests for a more intensive result, should just leave it to dry. Let me know how you go.

I have been using the Alpha-H Rescue Cleanser once a week for the past few weeks and it is remarkable. It is loaded with Rosehip Oil, Grapeseed Oil and Vitamin C. You simply massage the thick gel formula into skin for 1 minute then add water to emulsify. Alpha-H provide a chami style cloth to remove cleanser. Your face feels soooooooo clean and nourished, its fabulous!
Big Tip if you massage under eyes it removes dark circles. :clapping:

Hi Bubbles, the Alpha-H Rescue Cleanser is pink in colour as it is full of Rosehip and has a thick gel consistency as it is to be smeared on skin and massaged for 1 minute before adding water to emulsify. Alpha-H Balansed Cleanser is creamy and the Triple Action Cleanser is a loose clear gel. They are all brilliant.

Jaime, the 10% in the balancing moisturiser refers to the amount of glycolic acid otherwise known as AHA's!!

I have seen recommendations where Allison has said to use the liquid gold in the morning and balancing moist at night so should be fine. Do not use the UC even tone and liquid gold together though, one or the other. Good luck!

So liquid gold is best used in the morning??? I have been using it at night and not applying moisturiser as it was mentioned somewhere on the forum that its more effective/concentrated if no moisturiser applied over top??? Obdviously if i apply it in the morning im going to have to apply my spf30 over top.

So confused.....:(

Hi PS, sorry for the confusion here. Allison recommended that I use the Liquid Gold in the morning simply because I am using the U/C Ultra A serum at night. The Ultra A Serum would make my skin more sensitive to UV rays during the day than the Liquid Gold (at least I think that is right), so it is best to use products with retinol in them at night. I get the idea that it really is best to use the Liquid Gold at night, unless you are using a serum like the one that I am using. I hope that de-confuses you!:hearts:

Luisa Brown
22-05-2007, 10:21 PM
Ooh, I dont want to confuse things further but...

I also use the Ultra A serum at night - over my Even skintone serum which actually has more AHA than Liquid Gold. The combo works really well. Dont be fooled by less sun sensitivity, AHA's can do that too.

Help Allison!

Maybe the Liquid Gold is too strong for your skin? I found that the Liquid Gold every night was too strong for my skin and made my breakouts worse, as soon as I cut back to using it twice a week my skin improved greatly. I think I remember reading somewhere that Alpha-H actually recommend using it every second night?

Others on the forum have used this cleanser for the removal of makeup and you may have encounterd most doing a double cleanse to remove first makeup then impurities.

Hi Betty welcome to the forum. I apply the triple action cleanser directly to my face and massage thoroughly, for me this always removes all traces of makeup and impurities. I personally would find a double application too severe for my skin.

I have just purchased two of the new Alpha H products, the hand cream and the Rescue cleansing balm.

Hand Cream I am very impressed by the ingredients contained in this. They include of course 10% AHA, Glycerin (to attract moisture to the skin), Dimethicone (to act as an invisible glove), Jojoba, Avocado, Vitamin E oils, keratin (a protein for hair, skin and nails) and essential oils of orange, Lemon peel, Chamomile, Rosewood, Rose Geranium and Rose. All I can smell though is the Lemon Peel OIl, it is really potent.

As far as texture goes it is not quite enough for my liking but would suit someone who doesnt want a greasy feel to their hand cream. This one promotes itself as being good for cuticles too.

Rescue Cleansing Balm I am not quite sure what to make of this cleanser. I have used cleansing oils and a cleansing balm (eve lom) but this feels very vaseline like on the skin. It has petroleum and mineral oil as its first two ingredients. This does not not worry me personally. Other ingredients include Bisabolol (from Chamomile for healing and an anti-irritant), Grapeseed oil (good antioxident propeties), Rosehip Oil and vitamin E oil. The pink tinge is actually courtesy of red colouring and not the rosehips!

You massage this onto your skin then add warm water to emulsify, a bit like the Dermalongica one. I used a great textured microfibre cloth that I got O/S to remove once I had done this. It leaves the skin soft but not greasy but you would definitely need a cloth to remove entirely. No tight feeling and no desperation to put moisturiser on straight away. Although it removes dirt and impurities it does not say it removes make up so I will keep this one in the shower.

Triples Action Cleanser: I was amazed that this gorgeous gel didnt foam but gave me THE MOST amazing clean of my life!! Sooo it felt soo soft on my skin. I have a normal to slightly combo skin and this didnt dry me out AT ALL!! I mean NOOOoooo tightness!! :worship: I love it.

Liquid Gold: Great clean and fresh tingles. Forgot I got my eyeborws waxed yesterday but was quickly reminded :chuckle:. Felt it really zapping my breakouts.

Waited till my skin was dry then...

Balancing Moisturiser: I must admit that I was a little sceptical as I do need moisture and i really thought this wouldnt be enough for me. I was STOKED!! It felt deeevine!! Wonderfully hydrating my skin felt soo soft and from a gal who loves her mircos and peels thats saying something!! I am looking forward to using this for the rest of my life!!:chuckle::hearts: Well till i move to the next yummy Alpha H product.

All I can say about Alpha H is ...ALL HAIL :worship::hugs:

Sooo excitied to get the AHA mask next.... sorry im new to this one, Im not sure what the name is yet. :redcheeks::chuckle:

So glad you are loving your new Alpha H products TBA! Your skin should be able to tolerate them without too much space between applications. Is it the 15% Glycolic Hydrating Mask? I just love that one and the purifying clay mask. They make a non AHA one called the calming gel mask too.

Thanks Luisa. Yes it is the 15%Glycolic Hydrating Mask. Allison recommended it for me and alternating with the Purifying mask. Cant wait to get them. Soo over the break out and congestion

Is the purifying mask a clay?? does it dry super tight?? or more of a firm??

From a fellow U/C lover to another do you personally prefer the Liquid Gold (i know you liked tholder formular better) or the ESTS for exfoliation?? I'm not sure of the % of the LG.

As a devotee of this mask I couldn't help but add my two cents worth!

It is a clay mask TBA and yes it does dry on the skin, but you should be fine with just a thin layer (and only leave it on for the recommended time, which from memory is about 5-10 minutes). It gives a much better deep clean than other clays and leaves your skin feeling very soft and not tight at all. Good prep for moisturiser.

I tend to exfoliate with the Microcleanse, then use the mask - these are my two favourite products in the Alpha-H range. I do this routine once a week or, if I'm having a hormonal breakout, twice a week. It has really helped keep my skin clear, along with the U/C stuff.

RBB has cleared up how the mask works for you! The percentage of AHA in Liquid gold is only 5%. I still like it and sometimes use it in the mornings underneath my moisturiser. It leaves the skin soft and smooth. As far as results go, I recommend the UC ESTS.

Thanks girls. I admit after only one use I am utterly addicted to the tingle of Liquid Gold. Cant say I get it with ESTS anymore...to much abuse :whipcrack::chuckle: Maybe I should shuffle my way into the over-exfoliators crowd :waving: But Im a good girl now. Instructions are you friend and believe it or not do serve a good purpose :hugs:...sometimes! :glee::shakehead::chuckle:

Was so excited when I saw the GWP for Alpha-H Liquid Gold, so I made an order...

Alpha-H Triple Action Cleanser: Got this in a trial pack with the 2 masks etc, & fell in love with it. :hearts: I too like TBA was amazed how cleansed my skin felt, without feeling tight.

Alpha-H Body Polish: Am keen to try this out. Will report what I think..

and of course my Liquid Gold...
Have been super keen to try this out for ages. I use UC Even Skintone... so will either wait till I finish it, or will use the Liquid Gold on alt days, so I don't suffer an active product overload as I've done b4 :redcheeks:

Should report in another post of what I think of the 2 masks (15% Glyclolic & the Clay one); & the Balancing Moisturier. Have yet to try the Microcleanse as yet...

I have the soothing and calming mask by Alpha-H. In fact I have all the Alpha-H masks. The Soothing and calming mask is a gel type consistency and is very cool upon application. It makes the skin feel hydrated and calm. I use it on my cheeks mainly and at the same time use the clay mask on my t-zone. The calming and soothing mask would be excellent for people with sensitive skin.

Yeah, I just used it on break out areas as well. Firstly I don't like the smell, and second it just seemed to dry the area out way too harshly! But like you said, everything is personal choice, so if it works for you then I say keep using it!

TBA, here are my reviews as requested:

Body Polish Michelle Dougherty, the creator behind Alpha-H, wanted to include in the range a product for the body that rivals micro-cleanse for the face. This is that product. I love it! Use it in the same way you use micro-cleanse, ie; apply it on the skin, leave for a few minutes or until it dissolves then gently rub your body all over. The glycolic acid in the product dissolves the top layer/dead skin and sloughs it off.
This product assists in eliminating in-grown hairs. Cleans, refines and softens skin. Stimulates skin which in turn treats cellulite.
key ingredients: Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Lemon,Oil, Lime Oil, Glycolic Acid and micro-beads of Polythene Spheres

Body Zone this everyday moisturiser nourishes the skin and like other Alpha-H products, contains Glycolic Acid to encourage the skin to self exfoliate whilst boosting hydration.
key ingredients: Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Lemon Oil and Lime Oil

[B]Colour Creator is a self tanning moisturiser that works on your skins enzymes, thus, promoting your natural colour not an artificial orange/green/khaki. Colour develops over an hour or so and continues to intensify for 24 hours. Simply apply each day until the colour is to your liking. Colour lasts 4-5 days and does't stain clothing, sheets etc.

Unless I am having a Cinderella day at home, I would not use the Body Zone and Colour Creator together.

Jaime, I find the gel is soothing, tightening and settles the slightly spongey morning eye and generally refreshes the eye and socket.

The luminescent cream tightens, tones and removes fine lines from surrounding area. Great for the eye lid.

Also my eyes feel nourished and hydrated without being greasy.

Ok so I'm thinking of trying Alpha-H Triple Action Cleanser. I guess I have combo skin, it's oily in the t-zone but normal on my cheeks. And I am blemish prone around my jaw line. I usaually use cleansers with Salicylic Acid and I'm not to sure if the anti-bacterial ingredients in the Alpha-H cleanser will do much. Does anyone have any ideas or recs for me? Hi Trash!

The Alpha H Triple Action Cleanser contains an ingredient called Triclosan which is an antibacterial agent. It helps to keep bacteria at bay. Not suitable for my skin type but many adoreables rave about this one.

True! The salicylic acid (also known as BHA) works a little like AHA's in that it helps keep the dead skin cells from blocking pores and is mildly anti-inflammatory. The benzoic acid helps prevent infection caused by bacteria. Could be slightly drying if anything so test it out with once a day usage first.

I use my Liquid Gold every night a.gasper...I think because of the active ingredients it's more about making sure your skin gets used to it before upping the ante. You may not need to use it morning and night, I would have thought once a day would be enough to get some good exfoliation + firming happening....

Liquid Gold is a supreme product but you need to understand how it works. Sure it brightens the skin but essentially what it is designed to do is keep dead skin cells at bay. This is also known as exfoliation in the chemical sense. Products like these can make your skin more photosensitve so are usually recommended for night use although you still need to use a sunscreen during the day. Using it twice a day is really not necessary. What other products are you using?

PS. Many moons ago I had a major whinge about the effectiveness of the newer version of Liquid Gold. Well I am happy to say that my sister bought the even newer packing with the black longer lid and comments on how the formulation has returned to it's more effective version.:clapping:

I use the Neutrogena Pore Refining Cleanser (am/pm) and Loreal Toner (am/pm but I'm phasing this out because of the animal testing issues) and a Jurlique moisturiser (am) and then TBS Moisture White Night Cream (pm obviously lol)... I was initially using my Liquid Gold every second night, but I'm quite happy with my night moisturiser and not so happy with my day one. I though that I could use Liquid Gold in the morning after cleanser and then moisturise & sunscreen, and then in the night just use my night cream. I tried it today and found that my pores didn't clog up like they normally do, which I assume is the Liquid Gold. I know that a better option would be to change my day moisturiser, but alas, I just bought it and I would like to get through the bottle substantially (ie at least half way) so I can justify buying a new one and relegating this to the back of the bathroom cabinet. I figured that the exfoliation from Liquid Gold would cancel out any clogged pores (which admittedly are not so bad now that I'm using Jurlique, but still not perfect) from my moisturiser. Any opinions on this?:)

Luisa Brown
10-10-2007, 09:21 PM
Hi there, your routine is fine. Do be aware though that your Pore Refining Cleanser contains AHA's and BHA's. It seems you were happy with the results by using the Liquid Gold in the morning. While you want to finish your pm moist perhaps use it in the morning while you are finishing it off. Please only use it once a day though!

What Are Alpha Hydroxy Acids and How Do They Work?

Alpha Hydroxy Acids are naturally occurring acids, derived from the sugars in particular plants. Some examples are Glycolic Acid (Sugar Cane), Lactic Acid (Milk), Tartaric Acid (Grapes), Citric Acid (Citrus Fruits), Malic Acid (Apples), and Mandelic Acid (Bitter Almonds). These acids work at the very base of the stratum corneum, dissolving the cement that holds dead skin cells together. This increases cell turnover and influences the structure of new stratum corneum being made. This results in skin that is more flexible, more smooth, and more even in tone. At greater concentrations (12%-20%), deeper dermal effects, such as higher amounts of mucopolysaccharides and collagen and increased skin thickness, are observed. Eventually, alpha hydroxy acids will produce skin that is softer, smoother, less wrinkled, less dehydrated, and more even in skin tone.

The Myths

There is a lot of information out about Alpha Hydroxy Acids, however, much of it is misleading or simply untrue. Separating the truth from the rumors can be nearly impossible for the average person. Here are a few of the common myths surrounding Alpha Hydroxy Acids.

Myth #1: Alpha Hydroxy Acids thin the skin. Actually, it is quite the opposite. AHAs at greater bioavailability appear to have dermal affects that influence the formation of collagen. Alpha Hydroxy Acids, on topical application to photoaged skin, have been shown to substantially increase skin thickness. Skin biopsies revealed increased synthesis of mucopolysaccharides and collagen as well.

Myth #2: Alpha Hydroxy Acids cause sun sensitivity. Used correctly, Alpha Hydroxy Acids do not increase sun sensitivity. Sun sensitivity occurs when skin is irritated and inflammation occurs. Those with very fair coloring are especially susceptible to this since their skin tends to be more sensitive. Avoiding high concentrations (15% or more) or products with pH's lower than 3 can help avoid this. For those with more sensitive skin, use of a non-irritating AHA such as Mandelic Acid, Lactic Acid, or Gluconolactone (gluconic acid) will help one avoid this problem.

Myth #3: Use of Salicylic Acid or a Mechanical Scrub will produce identical exfoliation benefits. Salicylic Acid works from the uppermost layer of the skin, dissolving skin layer by layer. Mechanical scrubs work only to remove already loosened skin cells on the upper layer of skin. Alpha Hydroxy Acids work at the lowermost levels of the stratum corneum. It appears that AHAs modulate new stratum corneum formation by weakening the bonds between corneocytes (a type of skin cell) at the lowest levels of the stratum corneum. This activity on the formation encourages a smoother, flatter cell layout in the stratum corneum. This new distribution of cells is particularly useful for prepping skin for peels.

Myth #4: Anti-Wrinkle benefits of AHAs are due to their exfoliating nature. While it is true that the exfoliating nature of AHAs contribute to softer skin that is more even in tone, the clinical effects of AHAs in modifying wrinkles and photoaging are due to increased skin thickness and new collagen formation.

Finding Effective Alpha Hydroxy Acid Formulations

A basic rule of thumb to determine how active an Alpha Hydroxy Acid product is, is to look at both the concentration of AHA and the pH of the product. An effective concentration should contain at least 8% Alpha Hydroxy Acid with a pH between 2.5 and 4.0. A pH of up to 4.5 is acceptable on products with high concentrations of 20-25%. Products for use at home should never contain over 25% Alpha Hydroxy acid. For those desiring to use concentrations of over 15%, a doctor's supervision is required.

Glycolic Acid, the most common Alpha Hydroxy Acid found in cosmetic preparations, is popular mainly because that is the Alpha Hydroxy Acid that has been the most widely studied. The small molecular structure and the rapid penetration of Glycolic Acid make it the most irritating of the group. The possibility of irritation make Glycolic Acid more suitable for those with mature or non-sensitive skin. Those with oilier skin types often prefer Glycolic Acid sinks it sinks into the skin quickly. The widespread use of Glycolic Acid, though, gives the consumer flexibility on the formula. The consumer has a wide range of choices with Glycolic Acid products: gels, serums, lotions, creams, formulas at varying pH's and concentrations, for that contain a variety of other age-fighting ingredients. If a person wants to find a cream that contains both AHAs and Vitamin C, they will have a good chance of finding a Glycolic Acid formulation that does.

Lactic Acid is most often found in moisturizers due to its more moisturizing properties. Lactic Acid is a natural humectant that draws and holds water in the upper layers of the skin. Alpha Hydroxy Acids as a whole can increase the skin's ability to trap water due to an increased production of natural skin moisturizers (Hyaluronic Acid), but Lactic Acid's extra humectant properties make it even more ideal for treating dry skin. Lactic Acid's larger molecule size makes it less irritating than Glycolic Acid. Also, because Lactic Acid is naturally found in the human body, it is not likely to cause an allergic reaction in those with reactive skin. Lactic Acid is ideal for those with slightly sensitive, dry skin or allergy-prone skin.

Citric Acid is most often used in cosmetics in a low (2-3%) concentration to adjust the pH of a product. Because we cannot find any products using solely citric acid in high enough concentrations, we do not have much information on the individual properties of this particular AHA. We will eventually conduct a few tests to check for its irritancy level and skin lightening potential.

What precautions should you take with Alpha Hydroxy Acids?

The most important precaution you can take with Alpha Hydroxy Acids is to know the percent and pH level of the product. Always start off at Alpha Hydroxy Acid levels of 10% or less. If you desire to step up the concentration, it is important that you do so under the supervision of a physician. Always stay at levels where irritation is minimal. Also, watch the pH level. The ideal pH is 3.0-4.0, any lower and the product may be too acidic; any higher and the product's exfoliating benefits may be nullified. Even at lower levels, though, some Alpha Hydroxy Acids can be irritating, depending on how sensitive your skin is. Mandelic Acid is the recommended AHA for those with sensitive skin, since it is the most non-irritating. Also, darker skin types should avoid Glycolic Acid in concentrations higher than 10%, due to the risk of hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation will occur in darker skin if it becomes irritated or inflamed, so watch your skin carefully. Those with an Asian, Latin, Island, Eastern European, or Middle Eastern background should be especially careful and avoid irritating products.

More is not always better. Irritation and inflammation will do more damage than good. Never rush into the higher AHA concentrations. Be patient and realistic, and you should always be pleased with the results.

Remember, irritation will cause sun sensitivity, so one should always wear a sunscreen especially if one is using Alpha Hydroxy Acids products with a low pH (2.0-3.0) or a high concentration. A minimum SPF of 15 is recommended for daily use, though an SPF of 30 is best. For more information on sunscreens, click here.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids are fruit derived and natural and should be safe for use during pregnancy.

Can I use Alpha Hydroxy Acids with other products?

Alpha Hydroxy Acids are ideal for use with other products since they can enhance the penetration of ingredients into the skin. The one important thing to watch out for and be wary of are signs of irritation. It is always recommended to alternate the application of the AHA product and the prescription or other anti-aging cream. This is especially important with aggressive products like Retin-A, Renova, bleaching therapies, retinol, and acne topicals. It is always better to be careful with your skin and avoid overdoing it. Irritation and inflammation can contribute to the breakdown of collagen and result in damage to the skin.

How come you're not supposed to use it that often? I started using it every second day (like a good little girl) but I practically had to tie myself down to stop myself using it every night because I love it so much and the way I wake up with gorgeous skin which glows (I swear it glows!!)

Sorry I'm a bit slow reading this thread. AG I use my Liquid Gold every night and my skin thanks me for it every morning. I wouldn't use this product in the daytime as it is photosensitive as brilliantly explained by LB. :waving:

My usually tough skin can feel a bit irritated after I have used ESTS or Liquid Gold consistently. I would perhaps consider the mask just once a week or once a fortnight. Perhaps also consider exfoliating just once or twice a week as your ESTS does that job too.

M, the new product is to be used in the morning after cleansing to compliment the Liquid Gold used in the evening.
It is quite a thick gel consistency that is predosed in pump form. It does not contain glycolics so it is not photosensitive. It is described as a continuous skin conditioning complex with amino peptides and flower acids to activate and tone skin.
I have found that my skin is fresh, toned and radiant. Absolutely glowing in fact. :waving:

P.s AHA's as such dont make your skin photosensative only when they are in peel form do u need to be careful. Vit A makes ur skin photsensative. Sunscreen is important anyway regardless of whats in your routine.

"The liquid gold daily activator sold here in Australia is the remainder from a batch supplied to the UK, the product is going to be re worked and launched here in the new year which will be a much improved product! "

Apparently the launch here on the 26th was just for TVSN and just a limited-edition thing until they rejig the formula and release it officially through all stockists next year.

Agreed - Xerious, it's good for both clearing and brightening the skin. I have some congestion and pigmentation and have been using Liquid Gold for about six months, and I swear it has helped tackle both.

If you decide to trial or buy, make sure you introduce it gradually i.e. every second or third day at first, and the build up to every night once your skin is used to it.

LB, I thought I would prudent and use the Alpha-H Age Delay Cream ( Liquid Gold in a cream ) for a week before posting. But here goes ........

Adore have the Australian Launch of this product  as it is not being released anywhere else until Jan '08.

Alpha-H Age Delay is an intensive anti wrinkle night treatment. It is quite strong with 1% vitamin A blended with glycolic & salicylic acids to minimize fine lines and wrinkles.

As per instructions, I use the Alpha-H Triple Action Cleanser then follow with the Age Delay Cream massaging in upward and outward circular movements. Within seconds my skin feels nourished but not greasy, really firm and toned as though I have been pressure packed.

I began using this cream on Saturday night and have used it each night since and I swear my fine lines have all but disappeared and the depth of wrinkles reduced. This is a wonder treatment. when I wake in the morning my skin looks fresh and radiant.

Additionally, have received comments that I look glowing.

Glad to hear you like it Charismatic! I am loving it too!

I've mainly noticed my skin looking really smooth and glowy. And tighter, but not in a dehydrated way.

A friend of mine has also started using this product.
He is the most lovable vain gay you could meet. He is really into skincare , fashion and gossip. (surprise!)

I contacted him to establish what results he has received since starting the Age Delay Cream .
He plans to go back to Adore and purchase a few more tubes of product so he will not run out. :chuckle:
He swears all his fine lines have gone, his skin is nourished but not greasy and he is looking "to die for gorgeous".:chuckle: When he showers in the morning his face feels fresh and creamy? (his words)

I really want to try this one! A few questions though -

Is it suitable for oily skin?
I am 27 - am I too young to use something like this?

Sapphy, it is suitable for all skin types.
It depends on your own particular skin whether it is appropriate at this time.
I think it would be perfect but I am not a BT.:hugs::kissing:

Sappy, I just noticed you use Alpha-H Liquid Gold. You could most definately use the Age Delay.:xmastree::waving:

Yes it's fine for oily skin - it's not oil-based.
As for the age question - I'm 29 and I am using it :) Vitamin A is a good thing for all ages I think.

RE: the Age Delay, I thought it was best not use BHA/AHA when using Retinol but this products contains all 3.

You most certainly can use chemical exfoliants (BHA's or AHA's) with Retinol. Infact the results are far superior if you do. You should also use a Vitamin C product and of course sunscreen.

Those on prescription Roaccutane should avoid these whilst on their treatment.

I'm about to order the Alpha-H Active Kit to help with my acne and refine my skin because it's looking a little worse for wear at the moment. I'm excited with all the rave reviews and I can't wait to start using it all! Fingers crossed it helps me out. :D

This isn't really a real update but I just wanted to say that I received my Alpha-H stuff today and I'm so excited! I'm such a dork... :chuckle:

Quick question though, can I use Cetaphil to take my makeup off before I use my Alpha-H cleanser?

You can, but you won't need to - the Alpha-H cleansers are great at removing makeup.

Thanks Kate, think I'll give the Cetaphil a miss then!
Does that mean I should cleanse twice or just once with the Alpha-H?

Kate (Staff)

You could do a double-cleanse if you're wearing lots of makeup, or anything hard to budge like Invisible Zinc, but otherwise once should be enough.

Angeliki, use your new Alpha H cleanser to remove makeup. The Cetaphil does not do a terribly good job at this. Perhaps to use it up, you could use it as your morning cleanser?

I just ran out of the Triple Action - I am really disappointed it didn't last very long and the broken cap, hoping that the next one will be better.

I find that cetaphil does an excellent job of removing makeup! I use it every night on a cotton pad to take off my eye makeup and it is just about the onlt hting that doesn't sting my eyes. It really doesn't leave a trace.

That's great that it works for you VeeE. Cetaphil is a great cleanser for sensitive skins and is designed to leave a moisture film on the skin. To the general public though, I would not recommend this as a makeup remover to someone who relies on it soley.
