How many of us have fragrances we'd rather forget we paid good money for?
You know the story, it smelt rather gorgeous at the counter- hell you even tried the tester for a week but then after the initial buzz wore off you couldn't stand the smelly stuff!!! Infact you don't even think it is worthy of air freshener!
How many "what the hell was I thinking" purchases do you have ?"( this can include blind unsniffed purchases as well)
1.Duende
2. Prada( I think my bottle was offf prada lovers)
3.Kenzo Jungle.( something in it irritates the begeezies out of me.)
4.Cabotine.( tooooooooooo Grrrreeeeeeeeeeeennnnn!!!!)
5. Pheremone by Marilyn Miglin.( I heard all the hype ladies and purchased unsniffed!}
6. Bal A Versailles. (My little tester bottle was fine but the big 100ml?? bblleegghhh!!)
These are just a few. Will update and edit with more soon!!

I don't know if this is the same thing but I LOVED L'eau Par Kenzo and bought the big bottle and then one day it suddenly went off. You know what it smelt like?! Weed. I was wearing a perfume that made me smell like a dirty, dirty stoner. Sigh.

This has happened to me once, I thought I was the only one that was like this but not so!. I feel so guilty. I spent $98AUD last year, in April? on Stella McCartney Sheer. One of my friends has the original, which I always loved smelling and I often would spray a little on when I visited a counter. But the day I went to buy the original - it wasn't there! argh. I tried the sheer version, did some shopping then came back to the perfume counter and thought, " hmmm, nice fragrance, yeah what the hell, Im on holiday!!! " Its been almost a year and well I literally not used it more than 10 times! ... I can't stand it!, its a subtle fragrance which is good, but theres just something about it that makes me go all heady/dizzy! (no other perfume does this!) Its such a waste. So it just sits on the top on my bedroom drawer - looking pretty coz its a gorgeous 100ml botttle - a deep purple colour.
moral of the story, for me dont splurge on a whim! that $98 could have been spent on another fragrance, one of my favourites perhaps.
Haha!
I bought Beyond Paradise because I thought the bottle was pretty. It has since found a home with Rosie because I just didn't like the smell.

Dior J'adore. Loved, loved loved it in the bottle. Loved it for the first hour on me (I used the counter tester). Bought a bottle. Halfway home (so about 3 hours post spray) something smelt terrible. It was me - the J'adore was changing, and not in a good way.:redcheeks:
Oh bummer Alice! I love Sheer!

VeeE has MMS Sunset Heat because I was intrigued by the description, but it wasn't 'me' when I got it. PCC has another MMS, which had the same problem.

Toastie I have heard that L'eau Par is meant to be divine. Don't you hate that when a bottle is off. So not fair.

Making Purchases and then deciding I don't like them anymore is the story of my life! I have bought some absolute shockers in my time (well they smelled awful on me but probably smell great on others). I can list hundreds here but will restrain with just a few big bombs:
Christian Dior Poison
Elizabeth Arden Red Door
Elizabeth Taylor Passion
Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds
Givenchy Only
Eeeeeew! Must say that these were purchases from many years ago. Am very discerning with my fragrance choices now and usually I know straight away if I do or don't like something. I think I use to rely on my Nanna for inspiration as the list above so obviously indicates!:redcheeks:

I was given a gardenia fragrance one - it burnt the inside of my nostrils!! Or at least it felt like it did - I am pretty sure it was MJ Gardenia - oh it hurt! Everyone else loved it, but I couldn't be near it.

Is it just me or do you think the counter tester is superior to that of the ones we walk away with? And I'm not talking about the testers we can buy ourselves. I mean the ones in the store. Its like they have the secret version that hooks you in and never again will you smell that same smell you did when you tried the counter tester.Thats what happened to me and Prada. The store tester was divine-my purchase smelt like off Boronias!!!!

I know it can often seem that way but I know that a lot of stores such as Myer and The Perfume Connection make up their own Testers as they are sent and extra 100ml bottle with the stock. They simply open up one of the 100ml bottles and mark it as a tester. They then send the box back to head office and when the tester is empty the bottle goes back to head office as well.

Hehe. Something tells me PCC you don't like any thing containing the word Elizabeth!!
I don't mind the White Diamonds but it has to be in minute doses and preferably in the cooler weather. Otherwise it can be horrendous. I hate it when somebody does your perfumes an injustice by bathing in it. You find it a liitle difficult to enjoy it the same ever again!

I think that has to bo with changes in body chemistry.
I should never have bought that fragrance that day, I know it can take up to 24 hours for a fragrance to manifest ALL it has to offer on me.

At least we "friends" here on the forum can swap and send on. At least then we are making sure someone will enjoy it.
I was rapt that my dear friend RBB loved the practically unused bottle of Angel Violette by Thierry Mugler I sent her. It relieved the guilt I had experienced ever since I bought it. I think I might have sprayed it twice! It just wasn't me but RBB is loving it so that is money well spent now:penguin::penguin:
See you really can turn anything negative here on the forum into something extremely positive!

So true Rosie.
Sometimes but very rarely I have come back to a fragrance to find it is quite delightful.
But the ones I have listed here are my absolute shocker nasty ones, never to return to Ever. Period!!!!!!

I regret buying the puff daddy unforgivable fragrance. I liked it in the shop but not so keen now. Doh!

Was that the one with the humungous ad campaign James? If it is, it sounded good, based on the notes. I never saw the ad, but I surely heard about it.

I think it is heading for the back of the cupboard or ebay.

Go ebay - no point taking up valuable space with something that isn't a backup:typing:

Yep I made the same mistake with Beyond Paradise - it sounded nice and I love the bottle, but I wore it less than once and palmed it off on a friend.

Oh boy, do I!!! Best 'up for grabs' EVER, I love it :penguin:
My 'what was I thinking':
Chloe Narcisse (instant headache)
John Paul Gaultier original (great on my friend, awful on me)
I think I have issues with anything that's too 'perfume-y', if that makes sense...

John Paul Gaultier original (great on my friend, awful on me)..
This exact thing happened to me. Although another reason I didnt buy it was that it was her signature scent at the time.

I must admit I have all of Paris Hilton scents. I think I like Heiress (or as my partner calls it Heirhead:chuckle:) the best. I wasn't as keen as you Ceej but I still have them all so I guess I am as bad. If you actually forget who is behind the perfume a couple of them are ok.

I love Brits perfumes! Think they are fab and have them all! Whilst I don't think much about her I must say the people at Elizabeth Arden behind her perfumes were very clever! Do you know Brtney's perfumes out sold Chanel last year!!

I've never had a change of mind (I've had a perfume present that I didn't like but not counting that as I didn't buy it!) but I have similar moments.
For me it's more about mood than anything else. I generally know what type of fragrance I want to wear depending on my mood, how I feel, or how I WANT to feel that day & choose from that but sometimes I get it wrong.
Eg, sometimes when I put on Midnight Poison I think yuk why on Earth do I have this?! But other days I just love it. Same with Joop! Femme - I went off it for a few weeks & then wore it for 3 days in a row.
So it's like, with my perfumes, sometimes we fight, but we always make up & are the best of friends (on my terms LOL). :)
