Jess has mid-length hair, which she feels is neither here nor there, so she’s decided to take the plunge and go for a crop with a fringe that frames her face.
Will It Suit Her?
According to our stylist, Kenneth Stoddart, the ideal face shapes for this type of cut are oval (like Katie Holmes’s) or square. “With round faces it is best to avoid blunt fringes as this will only emphasise the roundness and make your face look wider,” says Stoddart. “Jess has a squarer face, so the angles of the cut are very important.” A good stylist, he says, “will take the celebrity image and modify it to suit the individual. I am going to make the fringe not too wide and have it just skimming the eyes.”
The Cut
This is the sort of cut you should opt for if you have long hair and want a change that is not too drastic. “We call it the long-short cut,” says Stoddart. “This is quite a technical cut as it is slightly shorter at the back, tapering towards the front. This bevelled shape, with internal layers, keeps the cut looking modern and avoids that stiff, helmet look. With this style, we are really re-working and tweaking a perennial classic.” The fringe makes it fresh and confidence is the finishing touch.
Maintenance
This cut requires a relatively high degree of styling commitment. “The shorter the hair, the higher the maintenance, with a trim required every six to eight weeks and a high level of at-home styling needed to keep it looking polished.” This cut looks so great because of Jess’s rich, lustrous brunette hair, which reflects lots of light.
