Gilly

I got a call from my hubby and he has told me I have got an interview on Wednesday at 9.30 :glee:

Funny thing is though, I have no idea what the job is!

The managing director is a good friend of ours, he actually got us over to Australia in the first place by giving my hubby a contract! I know he has told the guys in the office to bear me in mind if anything suitable comes up in the office, he has seen my resume so he knows what I am capable of but its still a nice surprise!

I will let you know what it is as soon as I know! :chuckle:

VERY different! :chuckle:

Have not done any travelling really, we do want to get up to the sunshine coast sometime though and we love Sydney! I remember the first time we went there and got on the ferry to go to the zoo and we looked back and saw the classic view of the bridge and the opera house, it brought a tear to my eye that we had finally made it out here :glee:

That's lovely Gilly. I understand it take ages to organise to come out here and I bet it wasnt an entirely easy decision.

You have lots more of Australia to see and each place as you probably know is completely different!

It tool 364 days from start to finish!

I still have nightmares about the paperwork, we had to get job stuff from when my hubby started work!
It was a huge challenge and I really am proud of myself for getting it all organised, we did use an agent in Hobart and he was very grateful for the way I got everything together for him, apparently it made his job much easier!

We wanted to come out here for ages but it was only when the company that hubby was working at closed down that I discovered that there was a branch in NSW, I got on the phone to the managing director and the rest is history!!:clapping:

Sounds like your interview went really well Gilly. I know what it can be like living in a new country. My hubby and I went to NZ for 2 years with his work so I had to find a new job which can be frustrating (well it was for me because the job I did here you needed different qualifications in NZ). Glad to hear you are loving life in AUS. You will have to get out and see more of the country especially Melbourne :chuckle:

I thought it would be easy to get a job here, I was prepared to fill shelves to get some money in but even doing that required online forms, test etc and then they only gave me 4 hours a week! No use to anyone!
I am glad that at least I got in front of someone, as most of the time its just my resume that they see, and they don't get to see what I am like in real life!
I really hope I get it, thing is though, I can see a chunk of my salary going to Adore!! :chuckle:

Hey Gilly, we need an update!

How is it going?

Gilly
05-04-2008, 04:01 PM
Well my first week is over!
It went well but the training was a bit off at times, the lady that I am taking over from (43 going on 15) has just started dating again after a long break, they guy she is going out with kept sending her texts and it always seem to happen just as I needed some help or went to ask a question! I would get the "ah I'm in love" look and then she would land back on planet earth and not have a clue what I was on about!! :redcheeks:
I did one day on my own last week and got on ok, I had to ask advice on a few occasions but they have sid its better to ask rather than just muddle through and I agree with them.
All in all I am enjoying it, the others in the office are great and very friendly and of course I get to see my hubby a lot during the day too :glee:
Looking forward to next thursday, its payday :champagne:

what makes me want to cry even harder is that my friends mum owns a well known beauty magazine, and she recently told me she got an interview for the new Benefit store opening in April in Paddington. She knows nothing about beauty and when I was shocked and asked how she managed to score it she replied "my mum."

I then told her that she needed to do at least a course on make up if she wanted it and when she asked why, I replied well you need to know how to consult. Her reply was "what's consulting?" WHAT'S CONSULTING!!! I have nothing against her but I have longed and longed for this job and she scores an interviewe in a jiffy. Even if she is just probably cleaning up and maintaining the store, WHAT THE HECK!!!!!

i cant believe it. i didnt talk all day, just want to curl up in a heap of benefit products and cry

:hugs:aawww gracious, can u not ring head office or email about possible vacancies ? Kit have an area on their website for jobs

I know your right, maybe i could ask her to give the job to me. I think she'll just do little jobs around there.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How dare they! I have a good mind to chuck out all my Benefit stuff - to think the people that 'consulted' with me on what I should use possibly didn't know a damned thing.......

I know! I can't believe she got through the interview without them asking if she has any EDUCATION about benefit! I'm assuming she's doing little things though. Oh and please don't think about chucking out your little Benefits. They deserve care!! I wouldn't mind if you added them to my pool of tears haha

That is so out of order Gracious :shakehead: I always thought that you would have had to have at least a basic knowledge, how can she possibly help other people who don't know about the product!!
It a good thing we have this forum so much advice and knowledge :worship:

99% of the work going is handed out on the basis of who the applicant knows - like they play a sport with so-and-so, or their parent/partner knows such-and-such. Skills and ability have little to do with it. I have gotten 2 of my 3 current jobs that way.

Oh Gracious! You poor darling. It's so ridiculous isn't it? How about creating a mini beauty magazine - i.e 8 (A5) pages, and showcase your knowledge of their products. You could have little sections like horoscopes and an advice column to flesh it out and make it more like a mag.

Find out who the head honcho is for recruitment or beauty, then drop it off at their head office in a nice little box with a bow (a la Tiffany). I know it might sound sucky, but it's worth a try...

Not so much that, as I walked in at a bad time, and realised how much they need me (there is a family member who is terminal, and fading) and I just can't leave them in the lurch. So I am staying, but will re-arrange my hours around the new job.

Well done Rosie and Fusspot!!!! How awesome that it was such a shoe-in for you Fusspot.

Now Rosie, I'm a bit worried about you darling. I'm worried that you're putting other people's needs ahead of your own. It is so beautiful that you are such a caring, compassionate and generous person but remember that your first responsiblity is to yourself. You can't work yourself to the bone and even if you're only working a small amount of hours for each of your 4 (4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) jobs it's very stressful having to juggle different workplaces and responsibilities.

Sorry to be such a nana but I just don't want to see you fall apart because you've burnt yourself out. :hugs:

Girls, I've got an interview its a New Zealand based company with offices throughout Australia including Melbourne... (not organics related, but I've had some positive responses to those emails I sent out last night) Between the company and I we are just finalising an interview time, as it was to be scheduled on the last day my assignment and class was, but I don't want to miss out so I've asked if we can schdule the interview the next business day.

I will update after my interview. Other companies are requesting CV's to review. So far, its really positive. I had hoped to get a transfer/aided assistance from where I work to another department within my current organisation, but its REALLY quiet, but overall everything is working out, as it feels like the right time for change. Only time will tell (Im keeping my fingers crossed ;) )
