View Full Version : The emergency hand bag make up

Ever been in the situation where you are bare faced and then you’re asked out to somewhere swanky spur of the moment?

You’re not feeling glamorous and it’s make or break time. Do you go looking like you’ve just been for a Sunday Jog or do you use your make-shift make-up prowess to do a wonder woman like transformation in the toilet cubicle?

This was a dilemma faced by two friends who’d been out for a Sunday shopping expedition sans make up and were then faced with a proposal for cocktails. After rummaging though two handbags we pooled our resources and I rose to the challenge. The end result was two very happy ladies looking particularly picturesque and ready to charm the evening.

We decided to re-create this scenario at Beauty IQ headquarters pooling the make up contents on hand of staff member Celete’s bag along with my own.

My friends would be screwed without me because i usually carry powder and lipgloss, which doesn't seem like much but it is when you consider they carry no make-up with them, they rely on me! lol

I think i'm going to start carrying eyeliner aswell.

Gawd I rarely have much on hand either! I usually have a thousand lipsticks and balms, and mayyybe a GWP mascara, but not really anything else! Eeek!! But believe me my daytime wardrobe probably wouldn't make the grade anyway, so they wouldn't let me in and I wouldn't have to worry. :chuckle: But you lok great Celeste! I would kill for your hair!

PS you guys are so Melbourne in your all-black!

Oh no Oz, I saw the photos and went 'eek my hair looks manky!!!"

A brave but beautiful Celeste without her makeup on!

I am always prepared albeit with the bare essentials. Doing your makeup in the car unfortunately means that new products and old faves are never used but it means that I can get out the door!

I always have some kind of foundation compact, one eye pencil, one mascara (or mini mascara), one versatile lip pencil, a tiny Loreal blush that takes up no room at all. I have a baby brush that is quite dense from my Shiseido bronzer that I keep with it (also doubles as a sweep of eyeshadow) and two or three glosses. These all fit very nicely in my handbag!

That's not alot of stuff. I know girls who carry a crap load of stuff and it's like why bother?
I carry around an eyeliner and that's about it.

This thread has inspired me to clean out my make-up drawer and put a few products that i don't use regularly in my hand bag for emegencies.

I don't carry much around either in the way of make-up. Mostly lipbalm, lipgloss and eyeliner.

Loved the before and after though :clapping:

I have started carrying a small makeup purse in my handbag with my daily (although interchangeable) essentials: pressed powder, blush, eyeshadow, tinted spf, retractable powder brush, a couple of lip glosses or lipsticks, mascara and eyeliner. I also have about five other glosses loose in other parts of my bag so am unlikely to be caught bare faced anytime soon! Oh and I also carry DermaDoctor tease zone oil control too but it won't fit into the small purse, alas. I somehow feel less excessive if I can fit all my daily things in that purse, lol.

lLady A - you could get looks from magazines and runways etc, and then recreate them using Adore products, I know I always see people in magazines and stuff and think, "THAT'S the makeup look I want!"

Luisa Brown
08-03-2008, 12:55 PM
Hey that's a good one Loola!

I get really narky when I see a magazine cover I like and they dont say what they actually use. Instead some will say "to create this look" and I think how on earth to you compare so and so colour to that?:shakehead:

Yayy! :clapping: Great idea for Beauty IQ, very fun. I want to try this with my girlfriends but I bet they will all laugh at me. :redcheeks:

I always carry in my handbag
Face powder
Lip liners
half a dozen lipglosses, lipstick, lipbalms
foldup hair brush
purse size perfume

I think I should start carrying a concealor.
I keep a couple of cheap tinted lipbalms and glosses in the car for when I duck out quickly without my bag. Often dashing off to do the school run I realise I don't have any lips on as I usually apply in the car. If I hadn't had time to do my eyes I just make sure I keep my sunglasses on but you can't hide your lips.

Medusa I am a compulsive car-lip-applier. I have NO idea why it is but I rarely do my lips at home. I go out with a full face of makeup and bare lips which I do en route!

Totally logic Oz, they wear off fastest, hence put on last (if its gloss) ;)

I think I might have told this before but anyways:

My Car's glove box compartment is refridgerated so you can keep drinks etc cold. Guess what I keep in there??? My emergency makeup all sitting up perfectly with blu tac to make it look pretty and organised when I open it up. Stuff the cold drinks, I have my priorities firmly in order.

Mind you said "car" is going off to the body works tomorrow thanks to one fiancee who decided to dodge a roo on the road last night and clip a guide post and blow out a tire when he went off the road. Luckily he wasn't hurt and I wasn't with him but I can't get too cranky as he actually paid half for the said car so in effect it is "our" car. He can pay the excess though:chuckle::chuckle:

:chuckle::chuckle: Ok, I am laughing but glad he wasnt hurt!

I felt bad when my Dad got back from organising the tow truck. J (embarrassed as all hell) walked in and I rushed straight passed him to go and see how bad the 4wd was!! See these city slickers just can't handle the tough tassie bush roads!!:chuckle:

Should have removed my makeup from the glovebox, those body works people might get excited and use some.

I just can't believe he managed that much damage dodging a roo!! Needless to say this is why I wasn't on the forum last night. I was standing by a ditch watching my car being brought up out of it and on to a tow truck!! Thankfully he wasn't hurt! He's looking quite sheepish today:chuckle:
