Lately I've been more aware of what products I am using and the ingredients found within them. So naturally, I've been thinking about what toothpaste and mouthwashes I use and what is in them. I'm a little concerned, after finding out there are supposedly so many nasties in my dental products. My question is:
- do you use natural dental products? What ones do you recommend? (i.e I think Burts Bees have dental products?)

Emmy apart from the scare with toothpaste from China and the high alcohol content in most mouthwashes, I really dont think you have much to worry about. Do you have a particular concern or need?

I've just been reading pages like this: http://www.theecologist.org/archive_detail.asp?content_id=884
Can I take this info as factual or are they just using scare tactics? I must sound silly :redcheeks:
But there's an ingredient they are saying is banned in Australia, but its in my mouthwash?

I use Perio Paste and Perio Clear Mouthwash. My dentist recommended them and surprise surprise also sells these products. They are herbal and suitable for vegetarians.

That article was written four years ago em. If the ingredient was banned then it should have caught up by now. We have extremely stringent FDA laws here. I would want to know that there was fluoride in my toothpaste but that may not be for everyone. Just dont swallow it!

Yes I know I just realised the date :redcheeks: I've just started educating myself to read labels now and I think I'm getting a bit overwhelmed on whats good, whats bad, etc.

emmy , don't EVER feel funny about asking questions ,nothing bad can come from being informed & asking questions ,:hugs: i too have gone down the absolutely only natural route b4 , i was vegan for a short while as well
have a good look in health food stores they can b really amazing , looking at so many different options ,
i prefer fluoride in my toothpaste but was looking at getting one without sls' but haven't gotten there yet
btw the natural t/pastes [IMO] taste bloody awful :chuckle:

thanks fussy :hugs: I do feel a little silly asking about natural dental products - but saying that toothpastes have SLS in them! And i was researching last night and yesterday and saccharin is supposedly bad for you (which is in my products) as well as some other chemical names which are banned in aus and other countries.
I think I'd prefer to be ignorant :chuckle::chuckle:
That would be a good compromise - having a toothpaste with fluoride but w/o sls. I have already switched to an alcohol free mouthwash.
I was wondering about the taste! I want minty freshness not herbs, etc :chuckle:
