Hi There :waving:
I'm new to this forum and it seem like a great place for ideas and advice. I myself am hoping you can help me with some advice on skin care products that may be suitable for me to use.
I have quite a few skin concerns
Firstly my skin tends to be red and I suppose a little sensitive, it can feel bumpy especially on my forhead and chin and I do get the occasional hormonal breakout and I tend to be a bit porey on the cheeks
By the time the afternoon rolls around my forhead, nose and chin are quite oily.
I have no idea which way to go in regards to skincare - some people recommend I take a clinical approach - maybe Peter Thomas Roth which may sort out my bumpiness and breakouts but not sure how it will go with my redness (sensitivity).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Lucky I realised we now have a Beauty Addict and The Beauty Addict. These similar names can get so confusing.

I was using Mario Badescu, which I found okay. The cleanser was better than the moisturiser which I found left my skin a little greasy (Enazyme Gel Cleanser & Kera Moisturiser).
I've just taken back SK II which I bought about a fortnight ago but it made me breakout with spots all over my face - it was the Essence and Signs Totality Moisturiser. I though I was actually pretty lucky that they refunded my money but now I'm at a loss as to which products would suit me best.
Welcome to Adore Beauty Addict! :waving:

Hi Beauty Addict,
Do you know what tend to make you reactive at all? Are there ingredients that you know you definitely need to avoid?
With the redness where is this mainly?
Does it look like little burst capillaries?
Do you get any flushing at all?
What is your usual routine both morning and night time?
Are you using a sun screen daily?
Are you exfoliating and if so how often?
this will help me to clarify a few things before we go forward.

HI Lady Allison
I find really it difficult to diagnose my own skin. It's so confusing but I'll give it my best shot.
My skin it seems to me has always been red in the cheeks area mostly and on my forhead. My cheeks have gotten worse as I've gotten older and some of the redness now is due to capillaries. My forhead just has always seemed 'angry' the skin is not smooth or even and now it seems quite porey. Not really sure what I react too - I think if I use products with active ingredients (glycolic acid etc) they can be a bit harsh if I use them everyday but at the same time if I don't use products with these active ingredients my skin can get really bumpy and congested.
I have to admit I'm not very good - I don't wear sunscreen everyday, although I do avoid the sun. I find sunscreen makes my skin like an oil slick by lunchtime.
Since I stopped using the SK II moisturiser and the Mario Badescu cleanser I've been using Dr Hauschka products
Morning
Dr Hauschka
Cleansing Cream
Toner
Rose Day Cream
Night
Remove makeup with Garnier Clean sensitive cleansing water
Dr Hauschka
Cleansing Cream
Toner
This line actually advocates not using a moisturiser on a night so I have been giving that a go.
To be honest my skin hasn't really improved that much the only real difference I've noticed is the toner seems to have improved the pores on my cheeks and the rose day cream has softened my skin.
I haven't been using an exfoliater but use Peter Thomas Roth Gentle Complexion Correction Pads once a week. I used to use them more often but I think it aggravated my skin.
I'm just at loss to what products would be best for me - I've actually been contemplating having IPL for the redness and pigmnetation on my skin because at this stage I'm not sure there's any skin care products out there that are really going to help with this.
Hope I haven't chewed your ear off too much. Any advice you can give me will be appreciated
Thanks

Just wondering if anyone here can actually advice me of a skin specialist/consultant in Melbourne who can recommend a skin care/product regime for me.
I find alot of the time when you see someone they only advise you to use whatever product it is they are selling. I want unbiased advice.
Any suggestions??

this would be true just about anywhere , dermatologists included as they will have their own favs , Allison uses what adore sells , but they have a very large base to pick from , what about u ask Kate then , she isn't a beauty therapist but will give u the knowledge based on years of trying out stuff herself & hearing feedback from others , she [ nor Allison to my knowledge] receive any kick backs from companies to "flog" their stuff
i have been very happy with what both of them have suggested to me in the past :)
this is just based on my opinion though :):waving::hugs:

me! we have over 80 brands here so I am not here to sell any one in particular. That's my job- to be honest, unbiased and give clients something that WORKS so they keep coming back because they're happy!!

no one gives me perks at all- NO WAY! it wouldn't be fair or honest. My reputation in the industry and here on the forum is based on sharing 14 years of industry experience and a whole lot of training in many, many brands- most of which I try first so I know first hand how it feels!

hey again!
let me know if you want me to go ahead with the consultation. It seems that you do have concerns and I am happy if you would prefer to go else where but I'd rather not contradict any other advice that you may be seeking.
I am more than happy to put together a routine for you. I would also like you to let me know if there are any particular products you were interested in. If I feel they are right for you I can recommend within any range or between various ranges...
i'll wait to hear back from you and if you want to go ahead I will then spend some time putting something together for you.
cheers!

Hi
I didn't mean to sound like I didn't want or appreciate any advice you could give me - I do I really do!! and I know for sure you wouldn't give me biased advice towards anyone one product. I just thought because too me, my skin just seems a mess and when I try to describe it in words I don't think I express myself well - I just thought it would perhaps be better to actually go to someone who can actually see my skin. When people ask me what my skin concerns are - I usually just say all of them - name a skin concern and I have it. I bet now you're thinking I'm a complete loon who is overdramatic :redcheeks:but at the moment I just really feel the need to have great skin and to do whatever it takes to get great skin - I'm sure you understand.
I'd be really very happy if you could go ahead and provide me with a consultation. Thanks your patience :)

It'd be great if you can recommend a regime for me and I'll give it a go. Then I'll assess whether I'll need to come and see you for further advice. Cheers for that :) Looking forward to trying out some new products.

ok here is my routine for you. I have been mindful that your skin can be angry and reactive to too much while keeping in actives to work on the clearing process.
It seems that the pores, pigmentation, congeston and redness are your main concerns right now.
AM
cleanse MD cleanser for sensitive skin:http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=3843
this has glycolic but at a milder PH for a more reactive skin type
follow with the phyto +l:http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=4353
this is there to balance oil, treat pigmentation and calm redness
follow with c sheer moisturiser:http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=4734
use this every second to third day (alternate it with your day cream for now until your skin is fine with using it every day) the c sheer will help with redness, clogging and support the pigmentation removal too.
follow with sun screen.
PM
cleanse
follow with phyto +
finish with the ultra A serum:http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=1828
this will help with the clogging and the pigmentation. start on this only every second night for the first week and if all that feels fine then introduce it every night.
you can continue to use the Peter Thomas Roth pads once a week too!
I am keeping it as simple as that for now, we can then flesh it out as your skin feels like it's progressing.
take it easy and don't try to introduce those items every day/night that I have noted too soon... :glee:
