Hi Michelle :waving:

I love the concept of your brand - smokey eyes & nude lips. I'm keen to try the lipsticks, its quite easy to achieve Nude with a gloss but lipstick is all that much more complicated. Can you tell me what the finish is on the lipsticks. Are they matte, suede, glossy etc?

What is your failsafe Nude lippie shade for someone like me with brown hair & blue eyes, med skintone with yellow undertones? From the pics I am leaning towards Skinny Dip, Pure, Exposed.

Hi Michelle! I just wanted to say that your brand looks fantastic and has products that I have been yearning for. :chuckle: I really look forward to trying out your lipsticks, mascara and smugde eye liner. The lip pots are a great idea. Can you tell us about the colours for your blush range that will be available in the future?

BPJ, the mascara is great (it's all great, actually).

I got the mascara, and opened it up. No brush. 'Oh sh*t, I have it 30 seconds and I've broken it. Geez I'm good!'

So onto Hotmail I went, and emailed Michelle to see how to fix it. Turns out, I didn't break it, it actually doesn't HAVE a brush, just a spindle. I felt like a total tool :redcheeks:

I noticed that beauty product junkie menitoned that you will be adding blushes to your collections, which is great! I was wondering if you were going to bring other products in to the line ie Foundations and eyeshadows?

Thanks

So is it just a stick? i've always wondered how they would actually work. I had the Model Co primer that was a stick one and I got nothing but clumps and it was very hard to apply.

Hi Michelle :waving: Welcome to Adore! I really like the idea behind your range - dark, smokey eyes and nude lips - this is a look I favour for myself. I'd love to buy some of your products, not sure what yet, probably eye liner and lip pots. No questions at this stage, just looking forward to reading this thread and what other Adoreables and yourself talk about! :clapping:

'tis just a stick, and it's fab. I have never been big on mascara, cause I get clumping and/or flaking, but have never had a problem with Harlotte - I get fab lashes, and they stay put! Even after a spray in the face with beer I have lashes.

This is my HG mascara, cause I can drive it (initial panic aside) and it doesn't aggravate my eyes. I don't use it every day (coz I am lazy) but I wore it every day for 3 weeks after I got it and my eyes never once got irritated.

It took me probably 3 days to get the hang, but it didn't create clumping issues, they just looked a bit dodgy, cause I wasn't doing it right.

Hi Medusa

Thanks for your nice comments. Around 95% of my clients come to me requesting a nude lip smoky eye look. A lot of girls out there are scared of dramatic lip colour. So the smoky eye became my signature and most requested look. And as everyone knows (or should hopefully know) dramatic eyes and dramatic lips are a no go! Balance is great - either dramatic eyes, soft lips or dramatic lips, soft eyes. After mixing lipstick colours for years I decided to create my own line. It took a good two years as I wanted everything perfect (I think I drove my manufacturers mad in the meantime adjusting formulas, etc.). Harlotte Cosmetics was launched onto the Australian market in December of last year.

As to the finish of the lipsticks, the Harlotte lipsticks were specifically formulated to go on the lips quite matte and within seconds they develop a nice shine from the warmth of body heat. I believe it is a much more flattering look to have a sheen in nude lipsticks. Matte nude lipsticks can definitely make you look flat and somewhat dead looking...lol.

Ok a good brown nude for you would be Skinny Dip, Topless or Commando. Skinny Dip is the lightest brown nude and is quite popular. It is quite pale and has a hint of gold. Last weekend I used Topless on all four bridesmaids and they were all brunette with coloured eyes (i.e. blue or green eyes). They all loved it and compared it to a J Lo lipcolour and they all purchased one. If you are more olive than fair, Commando would be a good one for you. I know too many options :-(

For a good nude pink. Pure (the lightest pink lipstick) is beautiful but it is best suited for a fair complexion. It could look quite zincy on someone dark. Exposed is an extremely popular pink nude, as is Birthday Suit. If you find Exposed too flat and you need a more amped up colour try Birthday Suit. Just to let you know the lip shots on Adore Beauty are in the correct order, i.e. lightest to darkest tones.

I hope I haven't confused you too much Medusa:rollthoseeyes: I know it's hard to see the proper colour on a computer screen as all monitors vary. It's also a little hard for me to advise on which lipstick would be the best for you when I cannot see you personally so hopefully the above guide helps you. I was not going to venture into online selling at this stage but I just kept on receiving emails asking where customers can buy online..and thankfully Kate decided to take Harlotte on board!!!

Hi Beauty Product Junkie

Thank you!

The smudge eyeliner is fantastic (if I may say so myself). The texture is extremely soft (with no pull). It allows people to create a smoky eye with ease - I promise with this eyeliner it's not hard. Just draw a line under your eye (close to the lashline and blur lightly with your finger back and forth and do the same on the eyelid just above the lashline). I wanted to have a product in the range that would make it easy to do a smoky eye without being a makeup artist. I am at the early stages of development of my smoky eyeshadow pallettes which will be incredible.

I was sent many sample containers for my lippie pot but they were all too wide...I needed something that was slimline to be able to slip in your pocket, down your bra, in skinny jeans and of course the Harlotte garter with the concealed pocket (which are proving popular with hens nights). The lippie pots are unique as we had to create new tooling for them.

My blushes are coming out in the first week of April. "Frisky Pink"which is a beautiful fresh pink guaranteed to make you glow and "Peach Frenzy" which is a gorgeous peach colour. These two blushes I have used in my makeup kit for the past 4 months (and they were only lab samples so I am nearly out :-(. I use Frisky Pink when girls are wearing the pink nude lipstick range and Peach Frenzy to match up with the brown nudes. That's actually a makeup tip that so many people get wrong - girls, match your blush tone to your lip tone. This was one of the first tips I ever learnt and my goodness does it ever make a difference! I was horrified at what I used to wear. This creates a nice blend and balance.

Also another tip - don't be scared of blush. When I do trials for brides it absolutely amazes me that a lot of them don't wear blush or not enough or the wrong colour (a ruddy type colour). With the right fresh colours blush will make you come alive. I see the look on girls faces when I apply blush on them. I have quite a backorder for the Harlotte blushes already (particularly Frisky Pink). You do need to apply blush with a nude lip look as this guarantees you will not look washed out. Best applied on the apple of your cheeks (so give a big smile and the apples will appear). I personally like to use a larger brush (more like a powder brush). I find the brushes allocated to blush are too small and to apply on the apple of your cheeks you could end up having two circles (not a good look). For me, a larger brush isn't as harsh, is a more natural look and blends out more - that is just my opinion anyway :-) I am also currently looking into a Harlotte blush brush.

Oh Rosie - how funny! I do have to admit however that when all the sample mascara containers arrived I too had a similar reaction and I was extremely sceptical. After finalising the development of my mascara formula I tried my chosen formula in all four containers with very different brushes (or in my case, one with no brush). As I was looking for a dramatic mascara I was so impressed with this wand as it has tiny grooves in it which allows the lashes to latch on and you can feel a slight pull when coating the lashes. For extra drama: apply a few times on both eyes.

Lol, I remember that day so well :chuckle: I was almost in tears at my own stupidity (when I thought I broke it).

I actually dressed up as a Bar Wench for work once :redcheeks:

One thing about the Harlotte lippies - I have very dry lips, and my usual 'lip routine' involves balm 20-30 minuted before the lipstick. The Harlotte ones don't need that, they give great colour payoff, last ages and are quite moisturising.

I am going now, I am starting to sound like a commercial.:whipcrack:

Hi Vee :waving:

Absolutely can't wait to bring a foundation on board - not just at the moment though. Unfortunately the development of a product is quite a slow process...from development to production could take a good 12 months. It is something that will happen though in the future. So the blushes first, smoky eyeshadow palettes and start looking at foundation. My husband keeps telling me to settle down as I do get very excited about developing beauty products:clapping::clapping::clapping:. I guess I am extremely happy that makeup artists and beauty salons are taking Harlotte on board and so far they are really happy with the range. I am keen to keep expanding the range and to keep it at a professional level.

Rosie,

I am so glad - I can now tell people the mascara is beer proof as well :chuckle:

Just make sure you plant the wand firmly at the lash bed to ensure coverage from the roots of the lashes.

I myself have incredibly sensitive eyes so this was a big factor for me - some formulas I tried and tested just made my eyes bloodshot and sore. In saying that it is really important to have a good eyemakeup remover to remove all eyemakeup before going to bed at night. And make sure it is not your eyemakeup remover that is making your eyes sore. I have spoken to a lot of people that swear they can't wear mascara as it irritates their eyes when in fact it was their actual makeup remover that was the culprit. Just test them out separately if you have a similar problem.

I have always been a bit of a lash separator after using mascara over the years. Everyone's eyelashes are different of course but I have got into the habbit of separating the lashes with a tiny eyeliner brush..it's definitely not necessary but I do it quite a bit

Harlotte has a confirmed 17 Sydney stockists with new stockist enquiries weekly now (which is fabulous). We obviously have Adore in Melbourne and am in the process of finalising another two more fashion retailers in Melbourne. Next I will tackle Queensland and other States.

There is a stockist list on my website...

Hi Medusa,

We all do makeup differently. Even makeup artists have their different rules. There are no wrongs or rights really. I personally have never been a fan of lining the inside of the eye, I find the colour doesn't stay and you end up getting black sleep in the corner of your eyes. It also makes the eyes appear smaller. But I have a girlfriend who simply won't go out without putting eyeliner on the inside of her eye. She tried once but ended up caving and came out of the ladies with eyeliner on the inside...she said she felt really naked without it.

Cake eyeliner (which you add water to) and apply with a brush has more staying power on the inner rim of the eye. Pencils simply won't stay on....I hope this helps :-)

Hi Michelle - welcome to the forum:waving: I am enjoying reading your answers. I am a huge fan of the smokey eye/nude lip look, and am so glad that you have developed a range which is just focused on this. I tend to find that the reverse look (ie natural eye & emphasis on the lips) just doesn't suit me at all, so I prefer to put the emphasis on my eyes and keep the lips natural. So it's great to see a makeup range which makes it easy to achieve this :) Looking forward to trying some of the products.

Hi Medusa,

Red lips are certainly glamourous and look amazing on certain people. I think a lot of girls lack the confidence to wear bright red lippy as it is definitely a stand out look. I love Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilera's trademark red lips but in saying that I saw Christina in a recent filmclip with nude lips and smoky eyes and she looked awesome.

If you are used to a darker lip you could even perhaps try Harlotte lipstick Flasher which is a rosy colour or even Striptease. These are my darkest nudes and were created for the darker skin tones. If you are used to wearing reds going to a very pale nude could be a shock to the system.

Excellent. I am glad you like the concept of the range. I, too, cannot wear red lipstick - I wore it to a fancy dress party dressed as Marilyn Monroe as I see red lips as a bit theatrical (on me anyway). Good luck with sampling the Harlotte products!

My hubby hates ALL makeup, and is forever at me to 'take that cr@p off' when I wear lippy, but when I wear Birthday Suit or Striptease, he never comments. Lipstick is his pet hate, of all cosmetics. He was very excited when I packed for the Melbourne weekend, to see me loading a heap of lipsticks into my bag, to share with the other Adorables, he thought I was getting rid of mine. Foolish man:whipcrack:

Although, I did ask him one day when I was wearing one of them (can't remember which), what he thought, and he said it was a nice colour, didn't look like paint. Which, in his language, is a huge compliment.

Hi Michelle!! :waving:

Welcome!!! I have only just seen this thread. It is the first time I have seen the Harlotte range. Your model in you advertising is exquisite. She explemplifys your brand image perfectly from what I have read.

I adore the smkey eyes and nude lips thing. I have just never seemed to find a lip colour that suits me best in the darker shades. I am fair with quite strongly auburn hair (just gone blonde tho and loving it). I am very excited to try the range.

I just purchased the Smokey Eyes Liner and the Lippie Pot in Stalkers (LOOOVE THE NAMES BY THE WAY!! :hearts::clapping:) Do you recommend any particular lip liner for the colour I have chosen? or is it the rule of anything goes and what ever look and accent your trying to go for? ie. pink for a more pink accent and nude for a more nude accent??

The new blushes sound amazing!! Is there just 2?

Ok so my actual question :chuckle: IS.... I have quite large, roundish eyes I wouldnt say they are "droopy" (i hate thaty term makes me thing of a seven dwarf:shakehead:) but they arent almond. I have attempted a smokey look similar to that in your advertising but it makes me look like Uncle Fester. Do you have any tips for creating a great smokey eye on a rounder eye??

I am excited to try all of your range and excited to see the new products coming!!

Keep up your amazing work!! Congratulations!! :champagne::hugs::glee:

Hi Michelle

I'm sooooooooooo excited about Harlotte and thrilled to be able to get your personal advice. I have so many questions but first of all - what blush and lippie are you wearing in your Avatar photo? They look more peachy than your Harlotte lips?

Secondly (sorry there's a few things I'll be asking) I love how flawless the skin looks on the models on your website. I unfortunately suffer from open pores, acne scarring and still get about 10 small pimples on a regular basis. I've given up on using concealer as I find that it "sits" on top of my pimples making my pimples look made up. I'd rather my pimples show through but look natural than look too made up. Having said that I'm hoping you have some miraculous solutions to my dilemna (this is obviously a question to you as a make up artist and not related to Harlotte - I hope that's okay).

Thirdly (phew are you exhausted yet! :chuckle:) I love that J-Lo healthy bronzy glow, in fact the beautiful glowing look all your Harlotte models have. I have a tendency to wear foundation a shade darker than my actual skin tone to match my fake tanned body. Sometimes I even go two shades darker (is that horrible of me?). I'm really reluctant to match my foundation to my real skin colour because I feel all washed out and chalky looking even when I'm wearing bronzer. Am I making some big make up mistakes here? LOL. Can I post a photo of myself and you can tell me what you think? Oh can I? Can I? :penguin:

Okay, that's about it for now... :chuckle::rollthoseeyes:

Hi Ozlicious,

That's so funny....you obviously felt the peach blush and pink lips didn't exactly come together that well and your instincts were right. :shakehead:

I get a lot of people commenting on the simplicity of the range and how much it makes sense. Doing your makeup shouldn't be complicated and I like to spread this awareness. I just got back from a Harlotte makeover night :champagne:at one of the salons where Harlotte is stocked. I took along the lovely Madison (my face model) and demonstrated how easy it is to achieve the smoky eye look with the Smudge Eye Pencil. And then I did makeup on the customers - apart from selling a lot of lipsticks, every single girl bought a smudge eyeliner pencil and they all expressed how they thought doing a smoky eye was really complicated and way beyond what they could do. They all left quite confident. Harlotte will be all the essentials in makeup. There won't be 50 blushes to choose from, etc. just colours that have been tried and tested and that really work.

Just to let everyone know as well the Harlotte range is formulated from scratch for Harlotte. Harlotte is not and never will be a company which rebrands cosmetics that have already been made up. A lot of thought and effort go into the Harlotte products from the briefing I give the lab, to receiving the samples, to me then testing it out for a good month on clients and then making the necessary adjustments if needed (texture or colourwise). Just thought I would clear that up :-)

Hello The Beauty Addict,

Yes Madison (the Harlotte face) is gorgeous in looks and personality. I was lucky enough to be at our local boost juice and have this amazing girl serve me (just a part time job as she is at uni studying journalism). I was actually a little bit lost for words. She is even incredible without makeup on. She even has two different coloured eyes.

Anyway, to your questions. You know Topless might be the colour for you. And Starkers the one you ordered is probably a good one for you as well. So there are two nude lipliners, one in pink and one in beige/brown so definitely go for the Naked Beige lipliner to go with Starkers and Topless as these are in the brown range. If you find you need a little more colour go Commando (not literally):chuckle:. It may just be the makeup artist in me but sometimes I I still mix the lipsticks on myself.

Yes we certainly had fun thinking up nude names for the lipsticks. It started off quite sedate and of course in true male style my hubby started to get a bit carried away.....hhmm....and was cracking himself up more so than me...I told him that it still had to remain tasteful.... It was actually a really funny night.

Yes just two blushes - one pink and one peach...so far I have been able to use them on fair skinned through to darker skinned girls. I will do a separate post and dig out a few photos of real people wearing the Harlotte range.

No we don't want any uncle festers My suggestion to create more of an almond eye shape would be to extend the actual liner up and out and lightly blur upwards (not downwards). Its amazing what illusions you can create. When I go out I make my eyes look more almond shape and I love this look. Another trick is to apply individual false lashes in the outer corners of each eye and position them so that they don't exactly point straight ahead but are slanted out towards the side of your face. This is a great trick and definitely can change the shape of your eye. They are not hard to put on - just a little practise that's all. And the easiest way to apply these individual lashes is to not fully close the eye - just halfway - this allows you to create a better shape instead of opening your eye after you have glued it on and realise it's not in the right spot. I hope this helps!

Thanks The Beauty Addict

Ooo I thought of something else.

Could you please describe the texture of the LipShine?? I looove a nice thick clear gloss that stays on and put all day. Almost like lip jelly.

Is it a thicker consistency or thinner??

Hi again The Beauty Addict,

The texture of the lipshine is definitely thick like a lacquer. I am receiving feedback that it's not as sticky as some other ones on the market. I use this all the time just over my lipliner.

Hi ChicitaGatita (what a mouthful),

I love your enthusiasm :-) The blush is peach frenzy and the lipstick is Starkers which is a peach toned lipstick and there is no lipshine on the lipstick either as the lipsticks have shine in them.

May I ask what your skin care regime is? Do you have a good cleanser? I too can suffer from open pores. As I have sensitive skin I find that a lot of skin care products that I use on myself can really open up my pores. I'm not sure why?? I keep going back to the Innoxa sensitive range cleanser and I also make sure I get every spec of makeup off at night and massage the cleanser into my skin concentrating on the open pore area and this definitely reduces them for me. I know this because if I ever run out and use another cleanser for a few days my pores start to get bigger. I am yet to work it out why. Products work differently on everyone as well. It would be great if there was one miracle product but I don't know of any yet. :shakehead: And you are right. Concealer often accentuates the problem areas more. If you haven't already seen a good skincare professional I would definitely do this (a recommendation from someone is always better).

And yes wouldn't we all like to have flawless skin like Madison but of course the skin in these beauty shots is heavily airbrushed. Madison does have beautiful skin but not this flawless. The lips and eyes are not retouched as these were my instructions. And don't worry everyone If Harlotte was promoting foundations the facial skin would not be airbrushed. I wanted these shots to be fantasylike.

When I do makeup I always match the foundation to the colour of the neck. My pet hate is to see a white face in photos because I see it so much. These days most brides and bridesmaids get a spray tan before their big day and often have paler faces so I have to make their faces slightly darker than their natural skin to blend with the rest of their body....so no you are not doing the wrong thing. It is a lot better than applying bronzer on your face as you will end up looking like an oompaloompah (orange). I am quite fair as well and am known to apply the odd bit of fake tan myself.

And of course, you can you can post a photo of yourself :-)

Hi Michelle! :waving: Welcome to the forum!

My questions is, what is the difference between the lippie pots and lipsticks? Apart from their packaging..

Thanks!

Hi Ness822:waving:

The formulas in the lippie pots and lipsticks are exactly the same formulas. The only difference is the packaging. When using the lippie pots don't be scared to dig in as they are really nice and creamy.

Hi Michelle and welcome to Adore! :waving:

Your Harlotte range looks great! Simple and logical (as Ozlicious has already stated!) -- just what a girl needs.

I am quite new to nude lips and was hoping for some advice. Are there 'rules' for matching nude lipsticks to skin-tone, or can most people wear most shades (since the nudes are not brightly coloured)? Or, rather than matching shades to your skin-tone, is it more important that your blush- and lipstick-tones match each other (browns with browns and pinks with pinks, as you have described)? I have dark brown hair and eyes, and tan quite easily, although I am quite pale at the moment -- any recommendations from your range that might suit me?

I also have quite thin lips -- what are your tips for making lips appear fuller? Do nude lips suit thin-lipped girls?

Thanks!

emmy
26-02-2008, 09:54 AM
I'm a thin-lipped girl too Seagreen :waving: I know it sounds silly, but I never wear dark lipsticks - I have always stuck to lipglosses in nudes or pinks, as these (I read somewhere) make your lips appear fuller - dark colours make them appear thinner. This is very true on me - I look hideous with dark lips.
Am I correct Michelle?

Hi Seagreen:waving:
It also depends on what you feel comfortable wearing, i.e. pinkish tones or brownish tones. At the moment I have quite warm hair so I tend to stick with the nude browns and peach blush. A couple of months ago I was a lot blonder and was really into the pinks then. Brown hair medium skin tone can really carry most of the shades - if unsure perhaps try midrange, i.e.topless, commando for browns; exposed, birthday suit for pinks.

I like nude lips on thinner lipped girls. I think if you have a darker colour it tends to make them appear smaller. Tip for making them appear bigger: because they are nude lipliners line (ever so slightly) just outside the natural lipline - now I am definitely not talking dragqueen here so be careful - and then fill in the rest of your lips with a lipstick. The shine will also make them appear a little fuller rather than matte...I hope this helps.

Yesterday I had lunch with some friends and when I pulled out my Harlotte Lippie Pot they went "oh my god what is that and where did you get it from". All agreed the pots ore the cutest things ever.

I am actually going to include the lippe pots as wedding favours for all my female wedding guests. You see the packaging will compliment my pink theme perfectly!

Thank you for releasing a beautiful range of gorgeous products.

Match your blush and lippy, I don't think skintone is a huge issue with the Harlotte range - although I have had it with other brands. I have a pink Harlotte lipstick (Birthday Suit) and a brown (Striptease) and both work really well on my skintone.

Hi Emmy! I don't wear dark lip colours either, as I heave heard (and seen!) they make lips look thinner. But I was also wondering whether thin nude lips would just 'disappear' into my face! I guess it is a matter of finding the right subtle shades and perhaps adding a slick of lipgloss...

Amaranth - as promised I have just gone through a few of my photos and I will show you examples of the Harlotte lippies and blush.

Picture called Melissawedding.jpg. This is of a recent wedding I did. The bride plus all bridesmaids are wearing the Frisky Pink blush - see how they look nice and fresh :-) The bridesmaids bought between them an exposed lipstick and a birthday suit lipstick. I would say the blonde on the left is wearing the exposed and the other two bridesmaids are wearing birthday suit. The bride Melissa was initially wearing Striptease but then put exposed over it to lighten it up a little.

Picture called Melissastriptease. This is Melissa (the same bride) when she had the lipstick striptease on. A very popular bridal colour.

This picture has three girls in it. You can't see much of the girl at the back so the brunette at the front is wearing peakaboo plus the pink blush and obviously the eye products. Hi Loolabelle,

Thanks for your nice comments. You know it makes it all worthwhile when you hear feedback like you girls are giving me. I have put my heart and soul into this range for the past two and a half years and because it is just me on board at the moment, and also looking after two small boys (4 and 6), and a hubby, it's a lot of hard work and very late nights (or should I say early mornings). So thank you - it is so much appreciated.

Hi Orientalis,
You can with the corect shading elongate your eyes so they are more almond-like but, to be honest, it is a little tricky. The darkest shading for a smoky eye should always appear closer to the eye and gradually fade out....you would need to concentrate on the outer sections of both eyes to make them appear more almond, you would also shade on the eyelid staying closest to the lashline so you would only see a bit of shading above your eye. Attached is a quick pic of where you should have concentrated shading.....and to finish off apply single lashes on the outer eye. Don't get too frustrated because as I mentioned it is a little tricky.

So i am quite cuirous to know whether Harlotte would last
Thanks

Oh yes I'd love to know this too. I loooove eyeliner and would love to load it on every day but I too am a bit oily (and I live in a humid climate) so it ends up smudging under my eyes a bit. Would love to order the black Harlotte eyeliner but I too am a bit concerned about the staying power given its smudginess!

Michelle, is it possible to post pics of peek a boo and flasher? :redcheeks:

Many thanks!

Peak-a-boo is gorgeous!! The lip swatches are pretty acurate of the colourings.

I don't have oily eyes, but I can never get liner to last, it either vanishes, or makes me look like I've been punched hard. The Harlotte one wears extremely well, through sweat, takeaway shop ickiness, and beer in the face.

Thanks so much for the product information and makeup tips Michelle, esp the one about matching blush to lip tone, I had never realised this before:hugs:.

Hi again The Beauty Addict,

The texture of the lipshine is definitely thick like a lacquer. I am receiving feedback that it's not as sticky as some other ones on the market. I use this all the time just over my lipliner.

Thanks soo much Michelle!!

LOL TBA this is why I was on that neverending quest to find a neutral (non-orangey) bronzer to wear with pink lips and cheeks! I just couldn't do a traditional "bronze" bronzer with pinks!

And I second what you said about Michelle, so great to see someone build a company up from a mere idea into a line of products that everyone just loves! Michelle I hope you will come back and visit occasionally even when your week is over!

And by the way ChicitaGatita,
How can you see what blush and lipstick I am wearing in my Avatar photo? - it's tiny. I attach a bigger one so you can see the colours, as mentioned Peach Frenzy blush and Starkers lippy.

Oh thank you! Aren't you sweet! You look wonderful. I love both the blush and Starkers, I wasn't confident about any of the brown range but I've been looking for a peachy colour for ages! Now my list of Harlotte products I want to buy is becoming ridiculously long! LOL. Do you have a release date for your blushes? Are you taking orders now? Or is Adore?

I'm so grateful to hear that the skin has been airbrushed it makes me feel so much better! I can't wait till your foundations come out.Thank you for providing info on your skin and the Innoxa products you use. I'm thrilled you use such a budget range. I've got to the point where I'm considering saving for months in order to try SK II or La Mer or La Praire. Trust me I have seen so many dermatologists and have been on Roaccutane 5 times (no, that's not a typo!). I'm currently using an AHA cleanser and scrub called ASAP which was created by a plastic surgeon on the Gold Coast. Which products in the Innoxa line do you use?

Just to continue with the lipstick colours so you can see them on different faces....

This one is the lightest in the pink range called Pure. BTW the blush in this one is obviously meant to be overexaggerated and not blended:chuckle:

Michelle I am LOVING these photos! So great to see the bride and her bridesmaids, they all look gorgeous but still really natural. I love the "Pure" photo wonderful lip colour. Can you tell me what foundation you recommend for a glowing warm colours taht even out skin tone but don't create a "mask" look?

Hi Icelady:waving:
I had a beauty editor wear the Smudge Eyeliner out one Saturday night and she emailed me the following Monday morning advising that it was her favourite product in the whole range. She drank a bit much Saturday night and crashed out with her makeup on :no: and woke up the following morning and it was still perfectly in place...so that was a great review.

I personally don't think you need to worry about under the eye but if you do have quite oily skin I would probably recommend to put a layer of skincoloured eyeshadow on the lid and in the crease of your eye. The pencil will then have something more to grab onto. I don't have to worry about doing that on me but I do recommend it for oilier type skins. On nights out (which are few and far between at the moment) I do take it along in my bag and probably touch up once through the night and to be honest I am not really sure it needs it but I am a little bit of a perfectionist

As to the staying power of the Harlotte lipsticks - I loathe the colourstay type formulas. It doesnt' really come up that often but if it does I try my hardest to talk people out of it. These formulas really dry the lips out and by the end of the day (and especially if its your wedding) you don't want to have dry cracked lips. I went through this with my manufacturer as one of my requests was for a longwearing formula but it also had to be nice and moist. So far the feedback has been great. And afterall, what's wrong with reapplying lipstick - especially when you have sexy packaging like Harlotte ;)

The lipsticks are high in waxes (i.e. candellilla and beeswax) for wearability and longlasting. They also contain cornstarch to achieve extended wear. Moisturising properties: they are high in castor oil and contain Vitamin E, Calendula Oil, Evening Primrose Oil and Jojoba Oil for additional moisturing.

I have also informed my Aussie manufacturer that if they are ever to come accross new technology for colourstay lipsticks that don't dry out the lips that I MUST be the first to know :):)

Do you have black brown color? It seems adore has black only.

And do you have any recommendation of lippie color especially for asian skin? I am fair , cool, pink also yellow undertoned, (i say pink, because my skin is very sensitive and easily flushed.) yellow, i consider almost all asians are yellow undertoned. not sure whether i am right ).

Hi ChicitaGatita,
My pleasure! Theh blush is going into production in a fortnight so I will have them in my hot little hands the first week of April but the outside packaging (boxes) may hold me up a few more weeks - hopefully not though. I don't sell directly to the public so best to get from Adore. I am also now looking into a special Harlotte blush brush because as I mentioned before the blush brushes out there I find too small...anyway that's another story.

I tried so many expensive facecreams and cleansers, etc. and nothing seemed to work for me as I have sensitive skin. I then tried the sensitive range from Innoxa - blue lid - and it works really well for me. It is hard to recommend skincare products though as everyone is so different. What works for me may not at all work for someone else. I just find their cleanser really friendly and it doesn't strip my skin (like the soapy cleansers out there) and their day and night creams are great for me as well. After my two pregnancies my hormones were all over the place and I had terrible skin (massive breakouts) for up to 6-8 months afterwards - this is when I tried all the expensive products:shakehead: I walked past the Innoxa stand today in Myer and noticed that they have new packaging...I hope they are still the same products as I love what I am using now...

I know you would have heard it many times before but if you don't drink water, just try it out for a week, and drink quite a bit. I know when I do this my skin is visibly clearer...and also green vegetables are fantastic for your skin as well..just a suggestion anyway.

I can't wait to bring out Harlotte foundation - it will be super. I am definitely not one for the mask type effect. Good coverage but you still want to look natural.

I have used MAC Face and Body for years. You can only get this at MAC pro shops but anyone can buy it. I would do a similar consistency but a little less shine. You definitely have to put translucent powder over the top of this foundation as otherwise it is too shiny - but with the powder over it it's gorgeous. Quite lightweight but you can layer for more coverage.

Hi Michelle,
Just wanted to ask how you came up with the name Harlotte. What inspired the name you chose for your brand?

The brand is all about smoky eyes and nude lips and playing on the nude them I wanted something really edgy, attention grabbing and a bit cheeky. I rang my Dad, who is in advertising, and said "I really love the name Harlot" and he went "ooohhh not really sure about that one" but then he rang me back 5 minutes later and said you know you could call it Harlot but just change the spelling so I added another "te" on the end and of course put "xxx". It was quite funny my Mum said "oh you can't call it that - what am I going to tell my friends?"...she is so fine with it now. And in the advertising world and beauty world the editors are loving the name and always comment on it. By the way Harlotte is featured in Bride To Be this issue and the Eye Pencil is in NW this week as well.

No problems at all Icelady - glad to help!

The great thing about the smudge eyeliner is that you can really tone it down. I wear it during the day like every day:) and it is easy to smudge in so that it actually appears a light charcoal grey colour rather than a harsh black colour. So my suggestion is to draw under the eye and smudge once - this will give you a soft look - your'e the driver so you have control of how dark you want it. And if you want it darker go over it again and blur with your finger. If you only do this once it will be very soft - its quite versatile. And I would definitely use your finger to smudge - this is what I do - it works better than a brush with this product. I will have to look into doing a video type demo on Madison because it's so easy....but don't you just hate the sound of your own voice on video??

My preference for your beautiful skin would be probably Striptease or Flasher. My Asian brides usually go for these colours.....

You never know TBA it could be the hottest trend to hit the Hollywood redcarpets :chuckle:

I'm not really into lining the insides of the eye but I think it was Medusa I mentioned to earlier that there are no wrongs and rights with this. I find personally that the colour doesn't stay on the inner rim and you end up getting black sleep in the corner of your eyes. It also makes the eyes appear smaller. But if you are used to this look you may feel a bit naked without it. I suggested to Medusa that Cake eyeliner (which you add water to) and apply with a brush has more staying power on the inner rim of the eye. Medusa suggested pushing the eye pencil colour into the lash bed as well.

Hmm yes not very Halotte-alicious if you have big chunky black goo in the corners of your eyes!!:vomit:

Thanks for your tips. This is great having you on hand!! Im going to think up more questions to ask!!:clapping:

O for a nice all day matte finish what do u recommend for foundations? I use a matte powder over a mineral foundation (liquid) but i still find I get shiny and the mineral separates in my T-zone. Any tips or products recommended to stop this?? Is an all day stayput matte finish possible with out having to go to a super glue type foundation and a trowel?

For a matte finish you could always try MAC Studio Fix fluid. Provides a natural matte finish with medium coverage. To be honest I haven't tried this as I prefer a more dewier foundation and for oiler skins I powder down but I know a lot of makeup artists have it in their kits...I hope this helps :-)

Michelle,
You spoke earlier of people not removing their eye make up properly. What make up remover do you recommend and or will you be releasing one in the furture? Do you think we should double cleanse?

Medusa,
As I have to be careful what I put near my eyes as they go bloodshot very easily, the sensitive skin range at Innoxa is for me. They have this fabulous product called "3 in 1 Cleaning System". It is a cleanser and Toner and also eyemakeup remover in one. I only have to wash my face once (for around 30 seconds I guess) and it gets rid of my makeup really well and has these little microspheres in it which makes my skin feel really soft. It's easy, fast and all in one bottle - it works for me anyway. As mentioned before Innoxa have just changed their packaging - I am hoping they still have the same formula!

As to double-cleansing - depends what cleanser you use? I think some take a few goes to get all the makeup off.

After I tackle the makeup side of things with Harlotte I will definitely look into skincare products.....

Thanks Michelle, I can't wait to play around with MAC Face & Body. Currently I'm using MAC Hypereal and love it. After our discussion on concealing blemishes I remembered my MAC Studio Finish concealer and I've unearthed it and used it and it matches perfectlly with my Hypereal. So happy :penguin:

Given that you love MAC Face and Body I'm really looking forward to seeing your foundations once they've been developed.

You have been just so fun and down to earth and helpful on this thrad. Thank you :kissing:

Hi Michelle

One more quick question for your. Sorry I'm feeling like I'm milking you dry! :chuckle:

You said you love MAC Face & Body and use powder over the top. I'm really reluctant to use powder as I like a dewy look, and can't stand a flat, matte, or powdery finish. How do you avoid getting this when you use powder? What powder do you recommend and how do you use it to make sure you don't end up looking matte?

If this ends up being my last post to you, thank you sooooooooooooo much. It's been wonderful having you here. :glee: :hugs:

p.s I got my Starkers lippie pot (for some reason I thought this was called STALKERS!! :chuckle::shakehead:) and the smudge liner!! I LOOOOOOVE The lippie pot packaging. I must tell you it is simply brilliant. It has to be the single most brilliant beauty product design i have EVER seen. (I ive seen some sights) The size and thickness of the compact is perfect. THE COLOUR!! O THE COLOUR IS TO DIE FOR!! The size of the lippie part is ideal of a finger (i have tall person hands and often find i need to use my nail to dig products out..but not with this!!) and the magnification of the mirror is sheer genius!! I mean i can actually see my whole lips in the mirror!! I really cannot rave enough about the design. O the product is heavenly too heehee. Great job M!!!:worship:

We will miss u Michelle

I keep getting told that I look fantastic today, and I think it's because my blush and lipgloss are of the same colour tone. Seriously!
