Is when people only apply their mascara: A) On the underside of their lashes B) From halfway up the lash C) Sweeping directly up so that the lashes are stiff and vertical Here is why: A) It becomes twice as thick when you paint the tops of your lashes, and gives a flawless, defined look to your lashes to anyone observing said lashes. B) It creates an obvious line which is obvious to everyone who looks at you as you...

I'm learning about this ATM! Does make a huge difference to coat both sides.

Me too Jaime - otherwise all you see is LASHES. My eyes get lost.

Need Lessons RBB! I am hopeless at putting mascara on my own top lashes. Because my lashes are so long I end up with mascara on my eyelids!

Ok, here goes (bearing in mind I'm still an amateur!)...

Try tilting your head up, lift your brows (like you're surprised!) and look down slightly. Place the wand around the middle of the top side of lashes and roll down gently towards the base. Keep rolling and then drag back out towards the ends. For the underside, place the wand at the very base, wiggle a bit and then drag out towards the ends. Careful with blinking as it dries.

I do that for the underside bit...... I just think doing the top will be overdoing it for me. I think I would be all lash and nothing else :chuckle:

I have really shakey hands. Apparently it's a side effect of one of my medications. Can you imagine me applying mascara to my top lashes with shakey hands? Fabulous DARLINK

Proud to say I do all those things, BUT, does anyone else make a huge mess when they apply their mascara? :redcheeks: I have to apply it before anything else (ie not as the last step of my eye makeup) otherwise I'll get mascara mess all over my carefully applied eyeshadow. The problem occurs generally when I am doing the wiggle-into-the-base-of-the-lashes thing. I always end up with mascara all along the area of my lid close to my lashes, because the brush pokes through and paints my lid as well. What to do, what to do?

Do you tissue some of the excess off before you apply Oz?

I don't, but I do wipe the wand against the tube as I'm pulling it out, and then wipe the rest of the excess off on the top of the rim...

Maybe trying swiping it across a tissue as well...helps prevent clumps too. You can always apply another coat if you need to, rather than having to fiddle with the first one. Make sure you give it time to dry too.

Yes I will have to do this. I used to be a dedicated tissue-wiper but I got depressed at how much mascara was going to waste!

Actually I'm starting to think that expensive mascaras are a bit of a scam. I think we're paying for the wand/brush and of course the name, rather than the actual formula! I cannot believe what a difference it makes to apply mascara to both sides of lashes, using the curling motion I was taught. It works equally as well with Maybelline as it does with Chanel. Seriously, I can't see myself spending major $$$ for much longer.

I agree. I love Inimitable and most of the Clinique mascaras but it's just too expensive to justify when there are so many fab Maybelline and Cover Girl mascaras. It's worth buying the cheapies so you can throw them out at the first sign of dried-up-ness, without feeling guilty.

Definitely agree about paying for the wand too.
