Dear Allison:
I am new to the forum and really appreciate your advice.
I am really desperate to find a foundation which will not irritate my skin.
The foundation i used to apply all of a sudden started to irritate my skin. my cheeks became red, itchy and sore. So I applied medical cream containing cortisorne (i am not sure about the spelling), Then i switche to a new skin care system Avene. After a period of time, my face seem to calm down. then i tried different brands of foundation, Estee Lauder, Clinique, Lancome, mineral makeup (everyday minerals). All irriated my skin! The MUA at the counter applied a bit on my face. The next morning i found my face swollen, red, and itchy. The mineral makeup was worse. It stings my skin. Within a few hours, my face became red!
I don't know what happened to me. My face was not that sensitive before.
I am not sure whehter a foundation exists that will not irritate my skin. I am considering to give a tinted moisturiser a go. I am afraid TInted moisturiser won''t give me enough coverage. But as along as it won't irritate my skin, i am happy enough. Invisible Zinc or Clinique city block are on my mind now. But i am too scaredd to try.
Do you have any advice? Look forward to hearing from you soon.
Thank you in advance:spin:

Welcome icelady!
No, I am not Allison but I have a few questions that may help you work out some of the mystery surrounding your skin. For example, are you certain it is the foundation that is causing the reaction? What skincare are you using (which cleanser, moisturiser, sunscreen, primer etc)? If you are still using Avene, which products? What have you used (other than a foundation) immediately before the reaction? It sounds like your skin may be reacting to something else - external or internal - which therefore makes it intolerant to anything you put on it - such as a foundation.

Thank you all. You make me feel welcome.
Sapphire:
I am quite sure it is the foundation that is causing the reaction. Everytime i tried a bit foundation on my face, the next morning, i got reaction. Strange enough, only the cheek area. to put more exactly, only the area below my eyes. T zone is fine. sometimes my right eye got swollen. left eye was ok. Then it took around one or two weeks that my face "calmed down".then I tried another brand. The same story happened... very frustrated.
Cleanser: I am using Cetaphil, Paula's choice one step
moisturiser: AVENE for irritable and intolerant skin, Paula's antioxidant concentrate.
toner:Avene thermal water.
Sunscreen: Lancome UV expert.
My skincare routine is quite simple. Whenever i got irritation, i stoped using any makeup. (except eyeliner, mascara). By using the above products, my face slowly "recovers". (may not fully )
You are right. i am thinking of the internal and external reasons. external: weather, wather? i just moved to Brisbane two years ago from asia. internal: i gave birth to my second child. hormone change?
I want to seek professioanl help. As you know, it takes a long time to get an appointment with a dermatologist. And the GP i visited told me to keep trying unitl i found one. (Rubbish!)
I am in a dilemma. really hate to go to work with a bare face. but from time to time, i went to the office with red patches on my face, swollen eyes, sore cheeks... desperate:penguin:

Icelady methinks you should not put foundation directly under your eyes - this area can be very senstive and the product can run into your eyes and cause a reaction. Have you tried wearing the foundation only up to and including your cheekbones?

Thank you Sapphire. it is so nice to share my worry with other people . :clapping::glee:
Yes, i applied on the cheekbone area also.:redcheeks:allergic also.
only Tzone & sides of face are ok. But mineral makeup (physician formula, everyday minerals) sting my whole face.
weird. so many people rave about mineral makeup, which contain so few ingredients.

Hi there,
I am back from holiday so finally here is my response. does the mineral make up that you used contain talc at all? I know some of the mineral make up that we have that is pressed into a compact contains talc and not all skins like it.
I have not yet heard of a skin reacting to the ID Bare escentials range:http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/brand.asp?id=194&on=suppliers
the laura mercier foundation is both oil and fragrance free and offers a full coverage: http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=7286
this may be an option for you. a lot of people react to fragrance..
there could well be another influence here if all of a sudden your skin is so intollerant. I think those questions that have been asked in the thread are great- often environmental and life style changes and additional stress can make the skin more vulnerable.

Thank you so much, Allison. Trust you had a refreshing break. :waving:
i would like to give Laura Mericier a try. am not sure whether Adore would provide sample.
And Allison do you have any recommendation for Primer, loose powder /pressed powder which can be used together with LM foundation?
And Allison, would you like to give me some advice on my skincare daily routine?
My cheeks are sensitive, as i have said. But my Tzone is oily, and acne prone. I tried Neostrata for my t zone only . but I found ANA stings my skin. ( so much problematic skin. which drives me nuts).;)
and i need a eyecream to battle against dark circles & fine wrinkes
Sorry. so many questions. Thank you in adavnce.

Hi there again,
yes if you email your details to service@adorebeauty.com.au and let them know what colour you would like a sample of we can arrange it for you provided we have a tester product available to make a sample up from.
As for dark circles here is an article:http://beautyiq.adorebeauty.com.au/index.php?news=144
try the dark circle eye cream:http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=1859
the skinceuticals phyto corrective gel will be good for both a tendency for oiliness as well as sensitivity:http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=4356
this can be used both morning and night time after cleansing before applying your moisturiser.
is there anything else that you have been reactive to before I recommend moisturisers? Is there anything in particular that you were interested in looking into at all?
Is aging a concern or just the break outs and t-zone?

This has probably already been said but... mineral foundation!
I use GloMinerals, which isn't available at Adorebeauty but I'm sure the other ones out there are just as good!
It's great for my acne-prone skin because it's full of zinc, but I do remember it being recommended for people with sensitive skin.

Would the Dermalogica Treatment Foundations be any good?

everday minerals, which i tried, contain only 3 or 4 ingredients, but irritate my skin like hell! I washed it off less than half an hour after i applied. Several hours later i got red, itchy face..
Physician formula claims to be talc free, I tried a bit on my not that sensitive area of my face in Priceline, minutes later, i rushed to the washroom to clean my face. It stings.
I do think i am abnormal. :whipcrack:

I wouldask Allison again about these but I have a friend who has easily irritated skin and she swears by the Dermalogica Treatment foundation.

Thank you Allison.
yes, i think i need two moisturisers, one for Tzone, one for cheeks.
I think Phyto corrective gel will suit my sensitive cheeks with pigmentation. Do you have a cheaper alternative?
And i want something for controlling oil and preventiing acne for my Tzone. Do you have any recommendation?
Allison, I just found my favorite cleanser Paula's has been reformulated and is not suitable for me anymore.
so i urgently need a cleanser, gentle enough for my sensitive skin, but strong enough to remove sunscreen.
don't like AHA cleanser.
would appreciate your advice.
What do you think of Dermologica's sensitive range? is it helpful to restore the skin's balance.
Sorry. so many questions. Do wish you had a branch in brisbane. :waving:you stock so many brands, which quite suit me, as i am lazy to shop around but have fussy skin.

am surfing the adore website. Do you think Clarins gentle cleanser will suit me need?
Gentle enough for my irritable skin, but strong enough to remove sunscreen?
have read your recommendation for other people. IT seems that you strongly recommend Pyto corrective gel for lighting skin. Do i have to put a moisturiser on it?
Thanks:waving:

Icelady I love the phyto corrective gel. My skin is really oily and can get congested but it can also be quite sensitive if I don't look after it. I use it in the morning under my sunscreen and it is more than enough as a moisturiser but your needs may be different. I also use it sometimes at night. You do have to use it for a long time before seeing any benefits though - but that is the way for most products.
I would also recommend the Ultraceuticals milk cleanser as a cleanser - it is so gentle and non-foaming so should suit your skin but at the same time removes all grime, grease, makeup etc and makes the skin feel very smooth and soft. But I should let Allison do the recommendations - I may only be confusing you!
So sorry for butting in, Allison! :redcheeks: You must find this really annoying!

Yes the ultra milk cleanser is a great choice as it is very gentle yet you can get a bit of a froth from it so it does really remove whatever is on the skin. here is the link:http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=1826
there is no cheaper alternative to phyto corrective- only more expensive soothing and calming options that are more specifically for the rosacea condition. The phyto corrective is really reasonable considering how effective it is.
Phyto + is the more advanced formula for pigmentation issues. Phyto corrective assists with the problem but it also very applicable to sensitised skin prone to break outs. It is hydrating but it's not a moisturiser and I do recommend using something over the top.
If your skin is super sensitive then I suggest the ultra hydrating gel. I often use this or the ultra moisturiser on clients after waxing as both a super soothing. The gel is very light and has aloe and panthenon for soothing, it is also designed to keep oil at bay. Here is the link:http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=4976
The ultra moisturiser is more suited to a normal to dry skin and is excellent for sensitised skin types. It is much more hydrating than the gel:http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=1833
The phyto corrective gel can be applied twice a day under your moisturiser.
I have used the dermalogica treatment foundation, but I don't have highly reactive skin. Again with this one email the service department with the specific colour you require and provided it's on hand we can send you a sample. That way you can see if you will react. At the same time we can arrange for a sample of the Laura Mercier foundaiton that your were interested in.
