Nice score M.

I have the shine-on and the Dream Hair Flawless Finish Straightening Balm. Like them both, especially the balm - great results, shiny and super-straight hair.

Haven't had any luck with the shampoos + conditioners though, they gave me a really dry scalp :shakehead:

M I've often bought the little take-aways when I've been going away for a week, and I really liked them! I used the ones in the yellow bottles, I think they were a shine one for normal hair. Lovely!

I also have a few Charles Worthington styling products which are good!

I was far more impressed with these than giovanni ... (some sls free shampoo/conditioner ... havent worked very well for me! ...)

I have used both new and old formulas of these 2 brands and I loved living natures old version of the balancing shampoo and the conditioner, Not sure about the new though, I have used them but my hair didn't feel as good!... I had nothing but grief from giovanni, gave it to my dad to use on his hair.

you'll find with living nature, your scalp will get better in a few days, it does a job that way!

i'm still trying to get the hang of the shampoo as i have a lot of hair - so its hard to tell when i have got it through all my hair! the nourishing conditioner is nice. & i actually like how my hair smells after using them

once i am through these i would like to try some other SLS free shampoos & conditioners to see which works best for me - what others would you recommend trying?

Ladyver, don't let this concern you. Hairdressers will actually tell you to concentrate your shampoo on the scalp area to cleanse oils and product and not carry it further down your hair length. When you rinse your shampoo, this residue, as it travels down the length, is enough to actually cleanse the lengths of it.

I personally didn't have much success with Alchemy, although it seems to be a popular brand on this forum. I've tried all kinds of shampoos and conditioners. The brands included natural instinct, eco store, giovanni, and natures way or gate.... can't remember exactly!... but none of these brands I've stuck with. I had considered trying MOP but its not cheap in NZ. I'm trying to buy locally these days to lower my eco-foot print!. Trilogy released new shampoos and conditioners about 2 months ago, so theyre another alternative to try.

At the moment I am using lush sylvia cynthia stout shampoo and veganese conditioner, my hair is in wonderful condition, so soft, shiney, healthy with volume, my hair feels good, and I can get away with only washing every 2 or 3 days.... However the shampoo and conditioner have SLS and parabens in them! (that doesn't make me very happy :shakehead: )...

I have fine hair but lots of it, I hate washing my hair ... I am so lazy with my hair so I always look for low maintainence products that I can use. I look for a thorough shampoo which is good on my scalp, and a light conditioner that treats the ends of my hair. I don't use any other products, I let my hair dry on its own.

products to consider, next time round:
http://www.dr.hauschka.de/english/products/haircare/shampoos/macadamia/
http://www.dr.hauschka.de/english/products/haircare/intensive_care/conditioner/

http://www.trilogyproducts.com/products.asp?pid=29

http://www.renewskincare.com.au/renew.html shampoo and conditioner.

http://www.perfectpotion.com.au/cart/customer/home.php?cat=387 I've used pp shampoo and conditioner before, :) rosemary shampoo and marigold conditioner .

I've never used dr hauschka products for hair before? what has been other peoples experiences with the hair care products...

If you don't mind using more commercial brands then I've tried lots but KMS an De Lorenzo are 2 of the better brands....

I went on a hair care splurge (ok maybe it wasn't a splurge per se...but I definitely bought more than I usually do):
I got Alchemy Wheat & Macadamia Conditioner (after reading so many fab reviews on the forum)
PLUS
Trilogy Moistuting Conditioner
PLUS
Trilogy Smooth Shine Conditioner
PLUS
Trilogy Botanical Moisture Masque (ok this was technically free with 2 other hair care products...so I just couldn't resist, and bought the Moisturising Conditioner as well as the Smooth Shine :redcheeks:)

I can't wait to use it all...I would wash my hair at least four times tonight if it wasn't for water restrictions...

Hi a.gasper :waving: The Alchemy is lovely - i started using it about 3 weeks ago and feel my hair is in all over better condition. I have now added as well the Terax Crema as my hair is pretty unruly and curly and dry and this gives it extra moicture and feels clean and lovely. let us know how you go!

hi Alice & Luisa, :waving:

a late thank you for your feedback! i'm not living at home while my bathroom gets renovated so its been difficult to get on the net.

i have been sticking with the living nature and things are improving! i also got my hair cut a bit shorter with heaps of layers - that and luisa's advice have really helped with the shampooing thing

i tried the Dr H conditioner, i wasn't overly excited with the results, but then, i was using it with the concentrate shampoo that caused all the trouble -

No shampoo's? ...

lol I have THREE half-empty antidandruff shampoos which I'm trying to finish PLUS one of those sunsilk designer range shampoos (Akira) because I got sucked in by the pretty packaging ... because I'm dying to use my Alchemy Lavender shampoo EVERY SINGLE WASH!!!! ARGH how I hate those dreaded half empty bottles!!!

The conditioners are sooooooo lovely! The Trilogy Smooth Shine did leave my frizzy hair pretty smooth and it smells so divine (like marshmallows!). I used the Trilogy Moisturising Conditioner & Masque on my VERY FIRST PRODUCT FREE DAY lol (that was weird because I'm so used to putting so much product into my hair post-wash that it felt so weird to just do the moisturising conditioner & mask then leave it ... ok I lie, I added a leave in moisturiser as well, but it's a scary thought to have absolutely nothing in my hair). Aaannnndd Alchemy Wheat & Macadamia (which smells like porridge...but in a good way...) felt sooooo soft, I just love it...

...now there's just a struggle every time I go to wash my hair to decide which one I want to use...

My hubby beats you honey, he has 5! He was trying to find the perfect anti-dandruff shampoo. He has now given up, and decided that if he uses a different one every time, it works better.

Since I started paying something that resembles attetnion (it's dandruff, and it's not mine, how much attention should I pay?!) it seems he is right.:shakehead:

Tremayne in Toorak Village. I found them to be wonderful. They are a bit Exxy (probably because of the bells & whistles). But you also receive a card like a coffee card that entitles you to a free cut after each 10. It cost $85.00 for my wash, treatment, cut & blowdry. I was paying $40 but became unhappy.

I've just been using KMS shampoo (finishing off the Colour Care one) and SIlk & Shine or whatever KMS conditioner, then I spray KMS Curl Heat Activated Spray into it. The hairdresser gave me some clips to use to add body to the curls so I used those and gave my hair a quick dry down with the dryer, took the clips out and put a bit of Kusco Murphy lavender cream through it to add shape and a bit of texture

I bought the lavendar cream not long ago and its making my hair more frizzier than normal.. I have been applying a small amount to my dry hair, not sure if I'm doing it correctly or not, also disappointed in the Kevin Murphy Easy Rider and it makes my hair feel stiff, didn't really do anything for my curls either. I hate it when I buy products and they don't suit my hair. Oh well! :spin:

Serena if you have straight hair, I don't think any curly-hair product will curl your hair. You need to have some body already for those. Perhaps if you curl your hair they would work to make it less frizzy or hold the style or keep it nice, but there are no products that will transform straight hair to curly... like straightening products, they work in conjunction with a blow-dry or good hair straightening

i have tried googling Fre a couple of times - but nothing comes up - i've now found them in a couple of priceline stores, but they are usually at the end of a row, down the bottom shelf

the list of things they say ther are free from: SLS, parabens, silicones, ethosyates, propylene glycol, petroleum, mineral oil, phthalates, artifical colours, harsh chemicals

i have been using the rejuvenating pack and have found the shampoo to foam enough to get through my thick hair, gentle on my scalp and they leave my hair feeling soft

oh, i have also tried plunkett pharmaceuticals which is the manufacturer or distributor - but no luck there either

I think it probably depends on the condition, and your diet too. If it's in good nick you probably don't need to worry, but it definitely makes a difference to mine (stupid thin stress hair!). You can get some really good treatments and sachets in Priceline for a few bucks, it's a good way to try and see if it makes a difference...? Or you could go the natural route, maybe olive oil or eggs (for protein) or something like that? I think we have a couple of threads on natural beauty/hair stuff, might be worth a look.

Oh, same! My hairdresser practically did ringlets and when I tried it, got kinks. It's the way you twist it initially I think, then slowly pull back like you're curling a ribbon. Also important to curl each in a different direction, so it doesn't look too prom.

Anyway I say all this cos THIS PRODUCT IS FAB!! It's weightless and silicon-free. I thought I had overdone it for a second but it doesn't go greasy, it's a very light watery consistency but still gives serum-like results. You're meant to apply it to damp hair but I smoothed it over my hair when it was dried and straightened and it looks very good. Supposedly it prevents frizz even in humid climates - we'll see, I'll report back later in the day when I've gone outside a bit. Still, I really like it so far!!

I had a look at a few products yesterday, most that sounded ok had a fair whack of silicone and were in a serum form. All I wanted was something to smooth down the cuticle as the hairdresser suggested. Garnier had one that sounded great called "Smoothing Milk" but whoa, the small had me putting it back on the shelf! Ended up picking up the newish Loreal gloss in the pink container. Let me know if anyone has tried this. Will primarily only be using on my fringe.

I suggest De Lorenzo's Rejuvin8 the ends for smoothing Luisa. It contains Billberry and Blackberry and is a cream. I use it everyday and it's great for smoothing and doesn't have that silicon stickyness that a lot of smoothing products have. It completely smooths and defirizzes. The scent is gorgeous but doesn't last once you get in the hair.

They say it's for the ends but I use it everywhere. I think this would be perfect for you if you don't like the serums much.

When I use protein treatments too much my hair goes a bit straw-ish. It's really super-important to use protein AND moisture treatments in conjunction - protein to build the hair back up and moisture to keep it soft, strong and flexible.

:waving:Hi Medusa,
I am working in the remote NW of oz, and it takes around a week to get products, so I buy alot at once normally. That haul would last around 4-5 months.
My hair is also strange as its not oily, but not normal so I find if I use alternate between the C-system Clean shampoo and the C-system Hydrating shampoo (with just the same hydrating conditioner) my hair really likes it.
The MOP Mixed Greens conditioner and Basil shampoo i will use If I know I'm not going to do my hair properly or if I have come back from the beach, and my hair only needs a 'mini' wash (if that makes sense!). it is just a little more cost effective than the MOP C-system products.

Hi Angela Leigh, :waving:
Finding the MOP C-system really good for my hair. it doesn't seem to get the build up I normally get from products, and it makes the my hair colour what it should be. I would recommend it for natural or dyed redheads, the colour seems to stay very true, and not wash out like with other products.
MOP C-system Texture lotion is great, even for long hair (which I have). it is awesome for when you have just washed you hair, but you need to put it in a pony, and it is just 'too clean'. Whack some of the Texture lotion through, then I spray with the Conditioning Mist (which has light hold) and my pony looks super neat and shiny.
I also get the an itchy scalp. The MOP C-system seems to have cleared that up really well. Maybe it was the LSL that was driving my scalp bonkers!!

Is the gloss like a Serum or a leave in cream RB?

As I have a new "Do" I of course NEED new hair gear  Starting out with some new tools so hit Priceline and got
Salon Tech small styling radial (barrel brush) with a ceremic core to train my new fringe.
Vidal Sassoon ceramic straightener. This was on special for only $25 :clapping: and it is really compact for travel. My Muster is way too big to take away with me. It looks good - swivel cord, 200 degree heat, rounded edges for curling. Hope it works well.

Hi M!

When the hairdresser blowdried my fringe she used an enormous paddle brush and just brushed it down after applying a smoothing cream. I must admit, I have only worn my hair a couple of times with the fringe down....:redcheeks:

Can you please give us a review on the VS straightener? Have been contemplating a GHD one.;)

OMG!!!!!!!!!!:penguin::penguin:

Went to Priceline to check out Medusa's new VS straightener. They also had the Titanium Ceramic version which heats up in 30 seconds and has ten heat settings, mat - everything that the GHD I was looking at. I thought for $37 (!!!!) on sale from $46 it would be worth a go.

Well, have just tried it out, started using it within seconds and it is the bomb! Only thing I dont like is I had to keep my fingers away from the on/off switch but it has velvetty covered bits on top of the straightening part which you can hang on to. Within seconds I was done and it looks SO sleek.

So...... with the $$$ I am saving I am hopping down to Adore to get the new Clarins cleanser and the Alpha H Age Delay!:glee:

DJ's had cute little boxes from the Brunettes range of John Frieda on sale. The original price was very fair at $14.95 but these were reduced to $8 on sale.

It contained:

Shampoo 50ml tube
Conditioner 50ml tube
Shine Shock glosser 25ml tube
Fixing Shine Max hold Hair Spray 50ml can and
Sachet of Shine Release Intense Conditioner.

Saving these for Sydney trip!:glee:

I am at Priceline weekly and have never seen the Klorance on sale unfortunately.

I replace hairbrushes when

- the little nodes on the bristles start coming off
- the bristles are warped
- when it just doesnt feel right when I brush my hair
- when the handle breaks.

Well go grab it on sale now! $8.95 til March 31st. Also i've noticed it sells out fast at normal Priceline, even when it's not on sale- try Priceline Pharmacy :)

Also my brush is quite old, the only thing wrong about it is that the cushion part pops out of the plastic sometimes, and i have to pop it back in t o use it... i should admit... it's 5 years old, possibly more *hides*

I knew i needed a new brush but kept putting it off, so as soon as my pay came in i bought a new one lol... talk about procrastination!!

Tell me about. I find that my new fringe is making my forehead itchy! :chuckle: I am still working out to do my new hair, practise, practise. One thing I have noticed it that I have to wash my hair more regularly because my fringe looks dirty. The rest of my hair is fine but how do you only wash a fringe? I'm not using any product in it. Was wondering if I should get a dry shampoo? Is this OK for dark hair?

LB - My new straightener is good but I got the tiny one for travel. It heats up really fast and is easy to use. I have been using it mostly on my fringe and my big Muster on the rest of my hair as this has bigger plates. For the price I'm very happy with it.

i have always had to wash my fringe everyday as it would get way too greasy otherwise , i actually use a foaming facial cleanser i don't use on my face any longer or just shampoo , mighty hard to do it "right"

though since finding out dry shampoo is the bomb i no longer worry ,
now that i am darker i have to use less of it & brush like mad ;)

Probably something with a bit of texture then - Kusco Murphy Beach Hair works wonders. I use a Kerastase finishing cream on top of this as well, but find something with some texture needs it to have any kind of hold and "look".

What else is good is John Frieda Ocean Waves spray, this works great.

Medusa
25-04-2008, 05:51 PM
Oh dear. Have you been around kids? Young kids always get them.
Get the lice shampoo but it will only kill the nits not the eggs. You need to get someone (mum?) to go right thru your hair and strip any eggs, strand by strand. If you miss even one it will hatch within 7 days and a single nit can lay hundreds of eggs within days. You really need to get on top of it fast. Good luck.

Medusa

I heard a tip about Nits. If you colour your hair the nits can't attach their eggs to the hair shaft due to the coating on the strand. Not sure if this is true but I think the theory sounds good.

Well i done a double attack on it yesterday.

Slathered my hair in conditioner, pu t on a tight cap, and slept in it all night. Apparently normal conditioner does the trick well.

In the morning i washed it out, combed through my hair (as much as i could + had time to)

Then blowdried on highest setting, as i head they can't stand heat.

My mum checked my hair and said most of it's gone, that she couldn't see anything much there, just some dandruff.

I'm going to repeat this next week, as well as go to my doctor for a referral to a dermatologist, because i have other unrelated scalp and skin issues i need to resolve anyways... (also silly side note, i'm excited about seeing a dermatologist, i've always wanted to go to one wince i was younger because i've always had crappy skin!!)

Apologies for late review.
Meh it was alright but probably more suited to persons with only slightly dry hair. If you find some conditioners tend to weigh your hair down this would suit but I need heavy duty stuff to make my hair smooth so I think I'll stick to the Biolage for dry and damaged, alternating with Sleek Look.( Both by Matrix)
I like to try new conditioners, especially if it works and I get a change of fragrance as well. I get bored easily- hence the 100+ fragrances.( PCC when did you last count yours??):chuckle::chuckle:
