What Beauty Counter Are You??

If you could be behind any counter/brand - what would you be? Are you an Estee Lauder chick, MAC or Dior - what about Revlon, Maybelline, or skincare like Biotherm, or Ultraceticals? :worship:

Where do you think you would want to be a sales assistant and why??

Such a great thread loola :clapping: Will be interesting to see everyone's responses!

But I'm a Gemini, I couldn't possibly answer that question! I could be M.A.C, Benefit, Laura Mercier, Kit and Chanel all within half an hour! :chuckle:

If I had to break it down to a few, I would be BECCA, MAC or NARS. :worship:

Well I would be (even though never been to any of these coutners :chuckle:)

Benefit: Just because of the packaging
MAC: Because every time you go past you see the most array of vibrant colors
Origins: I don't like their products but their counters (especially in city DJ) is lovley. And well organised

I think I would love to be a Kit girl. I love all the products & there is a great mix. The concept makes beauty seem so fun whilst stocking high quality gear. The SAs are always friendly, helpful & generous with samples. I noticed today the Kit SA had on all black with this Massive Kit badge. It was so over the top & quirky I just loved it! :clapping:

I think the Napoleon counter would be really fun - i'd love to have all their colours at my disposal for playing with! And I'd love to give the makeovers too - I'm always doing other peoples makeup.

I will confess though that I have never been up to the counters like MAC, Becca, etc.. I'm too intimidated! I think it comes from uni days when I'd go after class in my casual clothes and get looked up and down by rude shop assistants. The girls in Mecca were particularly bad! So this is why I buy so much online

Rubisco,
I use to feel exactly the same way as you. I was so intimidated by the people who pounce on you or even in some cases ignore you that I would avoid going near the counters like the plague. Now however I find the roles have reversed and I intimidate the crap out of the sales girls and I might say that I call this karma!

Rubisco I've had the same experience at MECCA. MAC can be kinda brash sometimes but I've found the SAs are usually pretty helpful. The one place I'm almost always guaranteed to really enjoy myself and feel completely comfortable is Kit. I know I keep saying it, but they're so consistently friendly and fun that I always go back and always spend!

Agree though, the online shopping option is pretty handy. Especially our no 1 fave Adore of course.

Guys - I would never send you behind a counter to work!! NOOO!!!!! I meant it more as in a Cosmo Quiz, "What beauty counter (maybe brand was a better word) are you"

I think basically - lets just all spend our days being the customers and have an Adorables weekend every weekend!

I don't like it either. I have a stradegy though. I research the brand/store/products online then go into the store with a list of things to check out. I find it gives me a direction to head. So when the SA pounces on you the second you've set foot in the store you can say "yes I wanted to have a look at the ........" I find it also puts the SA at ease to as you are a potential customer & they will put some effort into helping you or offer samples. Remember SAs are trained to greet within 30sec & to sell. Give them something to do, ask their opinions of things & give them feedback on products you have tried. You will be amazed at the difference this makes to your shopping/browsing experience despite your clothes.

Excellent strategy Medusa! Coming from the retail point of view, it is exhausting having to deal with a customer who has no knowledge so your approach is refreshing!

Just the other day I was at Benefit looking at the Definer D'liner & commented that it was like DuWop's Reverse Liner. The SA thought I was speaking a different language! After I explained it she seriously thought they were the only company with such a product. :shakehead:

Just Thank the SA for helping you & tell her that you would like to just like to have a look around at what else might interest you. Also if you are purchasing give the SA your items to put on the counter. This way they won't have to watch you like a hawk in case of theft. They have already made the sale so should be happy to leave you to wander.

Good stradgey but still don't like how you go in their knowing what you want and then they are like "Oh and have you also tried this? It's wonderful". And it's like do I care? Did I ask for this? No. So back the f$&% up!!!....................

I know Trash, it is really annoying - sometimes you know exactly what you want, but you also just want to have a good long look around without being bothered! I know that when I am being "sold to", I just zone out and can't focus on the products, I really just stop listening. I'm sort of a beauty snob in a sense too, because I feel like whatever product is being sold to me, I have probably already read about it (either here or in a mag or blog or online shopping site) and I probably know as much as the SA does. I like to look at the product itself, and have a play around to assess texture, smell etc! And I like to do it ALONE!! :explode:

I think Dr Hauschka should have a counter! if they did that I'd work there in a heart beat... although I don't think dr hauschka fits in according to department store counter conformity!

otherwise hmmmm, not sure if I'd go for typical counter jobs, saying that I like how refreshing, authentic, natural Origins look and the girls I've ever met at the origins counters have been lovely...

I think in order to be at one of those counters you really have to want to be there!, it looks quite a fancy job but its hard work targets, area managers checking up, staffing issues, competition, nosey parkers who play with testers, shift work, uniforms that may not flatter your body - no offence but clarins uniforms are not very nice! - this my opinion.

I did apply for work at lush as a trainee manager 12 to 15 months ago, I think it would be lovely... but to start off with it would take some time to get use working within an environment with such powerful scents surrounding you all day... I would consider this again - I didn't persue further as I got a job with a bank before I went thru interviews etc with lush, but it was a real possibility.

Plus I'm not really a makeup person so I don't think a department store counter would be me, I wouldn't be a fair representation to the company and I probably wouldn't excel in foundation sales! heheheheee... where as give me a bath bomb at lush, I think I'd be sweet - it suits my creative spirit a little more! and the girls certainly here in NZ and the stores I've gone to in aussie (Melbz; QVB Sydney and Gold Coast) don't go overboard with lippy! theyre natural beauties...

If it depended soley on what brands I buy into the most, my counter would be either Clarins, Ultraceuticals, Clinique, Bloom or Chanel. (Or YSL or Bvlgari for perfumes).

However, based on aesthetics, style and personality alone, I think maybe I would be a YSL or Lancome girl...or Guerlain for the packaging and freebies...or Clarins! I don't really know!
