Ok. I just joined. My friend did it almost 2 years ago and lost 13kgs and is the hottest little thing going round!

I realised last night, after talking to her, that perhaps weekly meetings are just what I need to get motivated and accountable.

First meeting is 9am Saturday morning!

Anyone else tried WW? Any questions? I look forward to being able to post on progress etc here! Anyone want to join with me?!

I'm feeling really excited! I'm going to get slim!!!

My bestie did weight watchers and she really liked it adn it didn wonders for her but she is also one of those girls who looks fat on monday but slim on wednesday. The only thing she had trouble with was having all these different ingredients in the house at the same time and it got al little expensive for them because her finace wouldn't what she would have so they had 2 different meals all the time. She would buy a box of cous cous for tea on wednesday and then it wouldn't be on her menu for the 2 weeks. They had just bought a house so they were trying to save money aswell.

it definately change her eating habbits, she still has some weight watchers inspired meals. Except she can't eat another chicken breast ever again.

I have never been to weight watchers meetings but I eat their food all the time. I just buy a lot of WW foods with my groceries and they tell you the points value etc on the front of each item. I have quite a few books etc that my aunt gave me from WW and I just try to keep my daily food intake below 20 points!

VeeE

Yeah, I've done the points thing before, when I was quite overweight and it worked amazingly well. I was on 18 points a day, but you can have more food if you exersise etc. I would consider using the points plan to lose these pesky 5 kilos that is are floating around my belly!

I am definitely someone who needs to be accountable/weighed-in every week, so I totally know what you mean. I've never tried WW but have thought about it - but for some reason, I don't tend to lose weight very quickly on a high-carb, low-fat type diet. I work better on a low-carb, low-sugar, high-protein and vegies diet. But best of luck to you!!! Once you get past the first few weeks, healthy eating becomes second nature and you'll be set! Go girl!

But is WW high carb? Just as long as you stick to the points you are supposed to lose weight. It's fun putting all the food you eat in the tracker too, which automatically tells you how many points you have left for the day. I just entered my lunch in to it (I haven't eaten it yet but know what I'm having) and I have 8 points left over for dinner which is plenty.

I think it is high-carb/high-fibre, as well as being low-cal/low-fat, so yeah you will lose weight for sure!! I just meant that for some reason, my body doesn't respond as well to that type of thing, but I lose weight quickly when I cut out all sugar and bread/rice/pasta (sob sob!). But yeah I know heaps of people who have loved WW and done really well on it!

EDIT: I just remembered, my grandmother "kindly" gave me some WW books a few months back :chuckle:

hey! i am all about living ahealthy, balanced lifestyle, and weight watchers is a good concept but i would be wary of those types of gimmicks - i am a diabetic and one of the first things i was told after my diagnosis to not eat ANY WW products as they are laden with sugar and artificial nasties. Losing weight is eating well, exercising regulary and something that is enjoyable, all these diets out there i find so frustrating - its a lifestyle choice. the accountability bit can help - maybe find someone to be accountable to?

i really think i need to write a book about it!

I kind of understand what you're saying loolabelle. But I was eating healthy food (not diet food, but lots of salads, vegies, lean meat etc) and I didn't know where I was going wrong. I borrowed a friend's WW books, and found that it was portion size that I was getting wrong. It also taught me the actual point value of 'treats' made them not really a treat if I wanted to lose weight. Choices became easier when I knew that a Magnum was 10 points and a Lemon Calippo was 1 point. It worked for me because it was my choice - I didn't have to exercise if I didn't want to; I just had to restrict the points. Or I could cut down snacks and eat more at mealtime, or incorporate snacks through the day and eat a lighter meal. I'm not diet-stupid. We all know about fat and sugar and carbs, but it was easier for me when I was counting it all up.

The counting thing will help me too I think. And the weekly weigh ins where I am accountable. I'm not going to be buying all the WW food at the supermarkets, I will be eating lean meats, salads, low-fat dairy etc - but it is knowing how much of this is acceptable, as CA said. Which sounds ridiculous because we all KNOW if we are overeating, but if I have to write it down and I check the points and it says for example, 1/2 cup of low fat yoghurt is 2 points, then I will eat 1/2 a cup and not 1 1/2 cups. Make sense?!

Not excerising is doing more damage than good - it needs to be regular and constant otherwise there is no point. And portion size is key, like i said the concepts of weight watchers is good and it does work for some people - there is a lady at work who drives me crazy - she has done weight watchers 4 times and tells me it works, and i was wondering, if it worked, why do you keep stacking the weight one and having to go back. Calories and points I was also advised by a few soures to disregard as it can replace nutirents you need. I certianly don't live a life of deprviation, and for me my main thing is health being only 25 and a diabetic - but you'd have to question if i'm not allowed to eat their food, what damage is it doing! You need to eat well, and EXERCISE. I'd recommend people see a dietician/nutritionist, it would probably also be cheaper in the long run and you're still accountable - i didn't have that much weight to lose as opposed to alot of other people which can be harder but it came off over time pretty easily - and i have hormones and metabolic syndrome working against me!

I really hope you achieve what you want, believe me - i just get so passionate about this! i even study all this now as i want to help people and make a difference and show them they can do it.

Thanks heaps, you are a legend. I am a big fan of meat dishes - yes I know - chicken, beef or lamb. Don't like pork. Like most veggies, love pasta and rice (an indication of why I am in this pickle). Don't ever cook fish, but this is something I want to learn to do (too scared of poisoning myself). In regards to fish, I like the non-fishy ones cooked with lots of lemon - simple. On that note I love simple foods, nothing too fancy. Have never liked cream-based dishes, am a fan of tomato bases. I hope this gives you enough insight?

Thought I would report on my first meeting. Was good... I've actually lost almost 2 kgs in the last 2 weeks, before joining WW, I realised when I got on the scales. From increased exercise and watching what I eat. Am feeling great about it. At the meeting I bought a specific diary for recording food and points values, etc. This is the sort of thing I need. Will report back next week, after my next weigh in, to report any losses!! Eeee!!!

Awesome, that gives me heaps to work with! My mind is already off running with ideas! I am the simple queen - i love fresh, clean tasty food that isnt too complicated or takes too long! A lot of things i cook are really adaptable also so you can interchange things really easily. I will put some stuff together and let you know.

Went to my 3rd meeting on Saturday morning, and last week lost half a kilo. I was actually really happy with that, as I did no exercise last week and ate out twice - so despite sticking to the points (or near enough to) I wasn't sure how I would go.

This morning though I got up and went for a walk, which I hadn't done in nearly 2 weeks. I've been in a bit of a motivational slump re exercise the last 2 weeks. Tonight though I am going to go to the gym to do weights and tone up those arms!!!

I quit smoking 4 years ago after I went into hospital ... though I do have the odd (and I mean odd one, once in a blue moon) now and then.

You definitely would notice a difference with working out without it though, it is a big difference! And it is a disgusting habit, I just really enjoyed it *sigh*

I loved smoking too. I enjoyed it so much it was ridiculous. But I told myself it was the habit that made me love it, and successfully quit on patches. Now I love not smoking!!! I am so proud of myself. No one can believe that I don't smoke anymore, I was that associated with it. I did have one a few weeks ago, when my new car broke down, and the cute mechanic offered it to me cos I was crying and so stressed out and pathetic and overtired. I had it and enjoyed it but at the same time was glad I don't smoke anymore. And afterwards I felt yuk and annoyed with myself for having it - and the taste in my mouth, yuck!!! Too funny

Yeah - when I've had one it's been if I'm really stressed and upset (which in my normal life is very rare) or when I'm drunk as a skunk (again, very rare for me!) And i feel GROSS afterwards aswell, and the taste in my mouth!!!!

Hey PP! I'm on the celebrity slim diet and I'm finding it really easy! It's the kind of diet where you have to eat 6 small meals a day. I have a CS smoothie for breakfast, and apple at around 10 30, another smoothie for lunch, a CS fudge bar thingy at around 3 30 and the a 'balanced' dinner, eg my Stir-fry last night and then an allowable desert eg 1/2 punnet of strawberries. It think it's great and I think it has improved my skin as well... BONUS!

PP - just eat a healthy balanced diet and eat every few hours and watch your portions - the shakes aren't good, especially if you have blood sugar issues (I have Diabetes). And regular exercise helps, especially incidental! You don't need to limit carbs, you just need to choose the right ones and have the right portion amount.

princess precious
28-09-2007, 12:28 PM
Loola - i know what you mean about the balanced diet. When i say limit carbs i was eating way too much bread in one day and on top of that maybe pasta and potato. I've just cut back my carbs portions and upped my green veges etc and salads which i'm enjoying. I think i have 3 things to concentrate on a)portions b)regular cardio c) no junk food. - i was relying on convenience food adn take-away a lot for my meals and way too much chips and alcohol.

Now i've found a new motivation i'm feeling a lot better, i don't feel deprived of anything. I have 2 outtings this coming weekend and usually i'd be hooking into the grog but i've decided not to drink this weekend and save it for next weekend. I just think alcohol is such a waste of calories and i've decided only to drink when i really want to, not just for my peers.

BONUS!

Oohh this sounds like the TF ones... I do a shake for breaky which is so yummy (and I add extra fibre to it also) then I have a piece of fruit around morning tea time, then I have either a big yummy salad for lunch or veges or something and another shake (am so full after that) then when I hit the arvo slump I have another piece of fruit and then go home and have a normal dinner but no carbs (well no pasta, rice, bread or potatoes) and a portion of protein, so meat, fish or whatever and more veges or salad. :glee:

My skin just glows when I"m doing this too and I feel so good. Plus once the kickstart has worked for me I can then maintain by adding in a healthy breaky, and just an extra protein portion at lunch and still feel pretty good! It's great!!! :penguin::clapping:

I lost another kilo last week - so up to 4kgs in total, after 4 weeks, doing Weight Watchers. I can't really see a difference, my clothes don't feel so tight but I still feel 'big'. A couple of people have commented though, and I am so glad to be making steady progress. A few more months and I will be TOTALLY hot stuff, rather than just hot stuff. Hahaha

Hahaha. No it is ok to eat that ocassionally. But skipping meals isn't good, it's a sure fire way to gain weight. If you want Maccas or KFC or whatever, have muesli or oats or whatever for breakfast, and a salad for lunch/dinner/whichever is the meal that you're not having the take away. At least then it's a bit balanced. I haven't had any Maccas/KFC etc in the 4 weeks, but I have been having Weight Watchers ice creams and WW choc crisp bars. It feels like I am having a treat and not depriving myself, but is still a 'healthy option'.

I don't know why I eat takeaway it makes me feel so gross after it.
I think my eating habits are ok, it's just the snacking that I have a problem with. Must cut down on that. And I do no exercise what so ever. I really want to start doing that too.

Well done Nat!

Well - I was devastated on Sat - I put on .4kg. I had been careful all week too, as I wanted to get a good loss on my birthday!!!! But the girls were nice and said it was probably because my period is due and also that as I had registered big losses the past 2 weeks, it was only natural for the loss to plateau. I was so upset but am hoping they are right and that next week I will lose again!! Was not a very nice start to my birthday though

Darling! If you have put on just 400g and it's your period time you are CRUSING! I put on up to 4/5 kgs with my period, and the follow week will then see a very decent drop, so you will be laughing!

Try not to feel too despondent - you look hott hott hott just as you are, I'd love your figure and legs rather being stumpy mc stump!

Well I went to Weight Watchers on Sat morning - lost .8kgs (yay!) AND am now also going to be on the Weight Watchers pay-roll!!! Hahaha. They need a new person to sit behind the desk and record everybody's weight which means I get free WW and also paid $30 to be there every Sat morning, when I would be anyway. SO I am pretty stoked!!!!

I am allowed back in the gym from next Wednesday if *fingerscrossed* my appointment goes all OK on that day. :glee:

It is KILLING me not working out, I feel gross, I feel flabby and unfit, and not to mention it's not doing wonders for my state of mind!

I used to have a trainer I saw once a week and she was awesome, I wish she could have come in my suitcase to Melbourne with me :shakehead:

Hi guys! Sorry I haven't reported back.

i went to WW this morning, and have lost 5kgs. I'd lost 4 kgs by week 4 and am now at week 9 (ooops) but I am keen to get right back on track. Have a 4kg loss goal by Christmas. I also quit working for WW as I feel it has put me off track. I need to be there listening and taking part in meetings, not seeing everyone else's progress!

I did my measurements this morning too, as I suspected I wouldn't have a good weekly loss and wanted to see what the 'real' progress is. I've lost 2 cms off most places, but 10cms off my waist!! (2 or 3 off my abdomen). So that was a nce surprise - maybe I am supposed to be an hourglass figure after all!!!!

Thanks! Although I haven't been going to the gym... must either get back in to it or put my membership on hold cos I don't want to be paying $100 a month if I'm not going!!!

Going for a walk with one of the WW girls this afternoon, and we're going to try and do it after the meeting every week so at least that is something... and I will try and walk more after work during the week too.

Oh fantastic Celeste! You're determined enough, am sure you'll get back into the gym! I'm actually thinking of walking after work too - especially now the evenings are cool and light enough.. gym before work, and a few walks a week after work... :whipcrack:
