The Lady of Shalott

"The scent of calm waters just before a raging storm, limned with achingly-beautiful blooms, an icy scent, but somehow warm, and mirror-bright: bold gardenia, crystalline musk, muguet, water blossoms, clear, slightly tart aquatic notes and a crush of white ginger."

The gardenia is dominant but all the water notes are there. Does anyone really like gardenia?

I like actual gardenias. But I have never yet smelled a gardenia fragrance that didn't make me want to :vomit:

Same with tuberose, with the exception of Renee's Tuberose which is divine.

So you're not a Fracas kind of gal Kate..

It's funny isn't it, quite a visceral response to those two scents for some people. I could not have worn gardenia or tuberose when I first started getting into perfume but I now can.. however I am fussy and quite happy with one or two. Some of them scare me. I grew to love them, it wasn't a natural response. (And Fracas is the Queen)

I cannot do Fracas at all!

Hmm, at first reading the fragrance sounds beautiful, but that is a lot crammed into the one scent - florals, musk, aquatic notes, and ginger!

I do love gardenia, but
a) I hated it for a long time and have grown to love it, and
b) there are certain gardenia notes that I find heady, very creamy, and repulsive, and some that I find fresh and sparkling. Gardenia is one of those things that can vary hugely I think.

Why reading the MMS thread I thought you were bankrupt..

BPAL isn't all campy gothic trips, lol. There are many lovely things.

(They don't use the Waterhouse painting on their site though, I just added that to my post.)

It was a lovely touch, teacake. I like the idea of picking images that remind us of our favourite perfumes.

I really like gardenia. I love Chanel's Gardenia as well as Kai perfume oil and I also have one by Urban Rituelle called Tahitian Gardenia which is really quite sweet and lovely.

Kai is lovely, and although the gardenia note is definitely there it's actually a scent that smells different on everyone...can be fresh, green, creamy, floral....oh, so gorgeous. Used to be a boutique scent sold only in a few stores in California but now everyone knows the secret! The perfume oil is a bit exxy (about $90) but is super high-quality and lasts for ages. You can test it at Mecca fusspot. I absolutely adore it!

I went through a phase last summer of being obsessed with wanting Kai.....I never got it, and when I went to Mecca in the middle of the year it was a dreary winter day in Sydney and the smell of it did nothing for me. But now that it is warming up, I want it again!!! But it is a bit pricey....and I am on a money diet... but still.....nothing screams summer like gardenia and green notes......hmmm.......I think i should have it!

Oh, and to add to the convo - a beautiful gardenia that I simply adore is TBS Indian Gardenia perfume oil. I only wish it was sold in a spray, I feel so much more scented when I spray on my perfume as opposed to dabbing or rolling it on! And I hate the thought of the "dabber" touching my skin and then going back into the oil, taking my nasty skin oils with it...

I enjoy gardenia in Crystal Noirs fusion with amber. Absolutely sexy on a warm night.
