I have my eye on this...has anybody tried it? My skin is oily but easily sensitised/reddened (because I'm fair skinned)

Many thanks in advance!:spin:

Do you get many breakouts, Sapphire, or just excess oil?

If it's just excess oiliness, I would suggest you check out the Clarins Lotus Oil instead - I know it sounds weird to use an oil to treat oily skin but it really does work! There are stacks of reviews for it at www.makeupalley.com - see http://www.makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp/ItemID=23966/Face_Treatment_Oil_-_Lotus/Clarins/Treatments/

Kate, I had acne as a teenager but now I only get occasional pimples- never hoards of them like I used to. I have heard of the Lotus oil. Is it odd to have very oily skin but only occastional pimples?

No, it's not odd :) the level of oil production in your skin is generally determined by genes, but if you look after your skin and stop the pores getting blocked, you won't get many pimples.

You'll find that your oil production will slow down as you get older, but in the meantime, definitely try the Lotus Oil - somehow it manages to discourage your skin from overproducing oil. You'll need to use it for at least a month to see results though, it's not a "quick fix" product.

the best thing about the lotus oil too is that you use it in replace of a moisturiser at night, withdrawing the need for two products :)

I might have to give this Lotus Oil a go - I love how people think how adding oils will cause problems, when in fact they actually normalise both oily and dry conditions.... :)

Dr Hauschka and Ole Henriksen cottoned onto this long ago...

Personally I love Decleor's Rose Oil - lovely rose scent and heals and soothes just about anything... great for sensitive areas... but I think I've become immuned to it and need to try something else, so i'll look into this Lotus Oil a bit further....

Thank you so much for your help, Kate. I love having experts on the forum- what a great idea! I am 26 now, so hopefully the oiliness will start to subside one day...

I do have a related query: I've noticed that my skin is a whole lot oilier on the days I am at work (in an air-conditioned office) compared to weekends and days off. This is despite the fact that most people find air-conditioned offices dehydrating on their skin. My lips do become very dry but my skin becomes so oily! My theory is that the environment is so dehydrating that my skin overcompensates and produces too much oil. What do you think? Is there anyone on the forum else that experiences this?

Sapphire i experience this as well! I wear foundation during the week and i find my skin does get quite oily in the T zone, but on weekends when im out and about it doesnt get as oily - stays pretty matte. I like your theory about our skin overcompensating for the dehydrated environment and producing too much oil!

Sounds like a pretty good theory! Airconditioning dehydrates the skin, so oily skin often compensates for this by producing more oil. (Which, as a side note, is why you shouldn't use cleansers that make your skin feel "tight" as this =dehydration which for oily people = more oil!)

Don't I know it! My skin hates drying, harsh products. It gets itchy and red and breaks out all over the place. When I was younger and poorer and used to use the Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser on my oily skin and it improved it tenfold.

Now it is an issue of finding a balance between oil-control/thorough cleansing and gentleness- which for some reason can be very hard. I always find it difficult finding products- not just cleansers- designed for oily/easiy sensitized skin. Normally there is a product for oily skin and a different product for sensitive AND dry skin. Oh the pain!

Ps- tim tam- it is so good to hear that I'm not the only one with the office oils problem. I was beginning to think I was the only one!
