I am putting this up after so many of us pledged to get our bums moving in preparation for the warmer weather/for better health.

Post your activities, questions and ideas here. We will motivate and support each other.

I have been doing mini-workouts at work the past couple of weeks. My allergies are acting up, so I haven't been outside doing much. I plan to change that this week, get back into walking and maye some running. I don't need to breathe!!

At work I have been doing squats, lunges, and running on the spot. I have also been doing pushups off the bench, normal ones are impossible at the mo', my shoulder just will NOT take the weight. At home I have been doing situps, and an occasional go at the rowing machine.

Lets get moving ladies! :whipcrack:

What a fabulous thread Rosie! :hugs: just in time for spring and summer! I have lately been going for a walk/run in the park a couple of times a week, but i should step this up! Get toned for summer! :chuckle:
Good on you for your mini morkouts :penguin: and at work!! :glee:
Today I am planning (being the main word here :chuckle:) to go for an hours walk/run in the park followed by stretches and maybe some situps. Let's see how i go.....:whipcrack:

Good idea, Rosie. I have been thinking about this too.

Well my good intentions are there but I keep getting foiled.
I walk my kids to school when the weather permits but it has been raining lately. This is between a 2.5 - 3.5km round trip.
A group of my friends have formed their own Bootcamp & we meet one night a week to run our butts off. I will miss the next 3 weeks though as the boy has trips away & I need to stay home with the kids. :(

Excellent thread idea Rosie, just what I need. After being sick for so long, I'm so out of the routine I was in (yoga most mornings and squats and situps in the evening). I so want to get myself back in shape for France and Italy, and I've only got two weeks to do it. Arrrgh!!!!

This discipline is new found, since gaining 5kgs over the last few months. And I was already chubbs. SO now I am trying to get to the gym as often as I can. And, surprisingly, mornings seem to be working well for me. I make too many excuses not to go after work, and am so busy, the gym just falls to the wayside.

If anyone needs any tips on how not to get physical, please let me know. My boot camp is tough but if you're committed to muffins, pancakes, beer and napping you should pass with flying colours. Extra credit for those with no coordination skills.

I walk 10k five mornings a week with my Mum regardless of the weather conditions. The only time we don't go is when I am sick. I dread getting up early in the morning to go (6am) but always feel great when we get back. The only thing I really need to do is try and pick up the pace a bit as I am a bit of a slow coach with the walking sde of things!

I have a Personal Trainer every monday and I got to the gym at least 5-6 times a week, sometimes even twice a day (I'll do cardio in my lunch hour and then do a weights session after work). If I didnt have the commitment of meeting my cute trainer every week, I'd be sitting on my arse. Im also motivated by the reults Im seeing and how my clothes are fitting now that I have started this new fitness programe :)

Right, time to get my butt moving. Just read where if a woman has a waist (measurement over belly button) of over 82 cm, she is at greater risk of heart disease. Mine is at a whopping 95!! I am in the highest risk category, according to that - hells bells.

Not that I expect to drop almost 15cm off my middle, it isn't that easy. But I sure as shootin' intend to give it a go......:whipcrack:

However, I fell in love with the whole concept and execution. You really become in touch with your body.

I hate exercise. I tried it, and I just ate more. So this year, something had to change, and it was the diet. I really want to do yoga when I get back from o/s. Now I've lost a bit of weight (not enough) I'm sure it will be easier to bend! Fingers crossed. Would anyone recommend a type/place preferably in the inner north.

I am so excitement! :glee: In addition to my 1.5cm loss, I have also lost 1.5 kg. :penguin:

I went to the doctor today for some MORE antibiotics, and he decided that we may as well do my physical (I had one in January for crying out loud, but anyhoo), which involves scales, and I have lost. Yayayayayay!!

I am still technically overweight (BMI is now 26, as opposed to 26.7) and my waist measurement still puts me in the risk category for a heap of nasties, but I am pleased. The doc told me that the soup/water/lozenge diet had little to do with it, if anything at all, and hinted that I may be moving more.

All I have done is squats, lunges and pushups (off a bench) for the past 2 weeks, and 2 walks for the sake of walking, everything else has been incidental. I have cut back on sugar & dairy too. This is far less than when I was weighed last time......

I would love to lose another 5kg, but my main goal is to get my waist back to a safer level, this is a health thing, not a 'you are fat' bugaboo.

Once I finish my antibiotics (Thursday) I am going to start bike riding and running. The house cleaning job I have picked up will help too, I will walk there and back (that's 45 minutes) and then an hour to an hour and a half of hard yakka (cleaning, if done properly, is flamin' hard work), plus the 3 days of squats, pushups & lunges (I only do these at 1 job, and am usually only there 3 days), with a few walks thrown in, will work wonders.

And if they don't, I will use more drastic measures.

Well after the gorgeous food I ate on holidays, I'm feeling a bit frumpy (although have managed to not put on weight which must be from all the walking and hill and stair climbing I did to offset the food). :redcheeks::whistle:

RPM is class using stationary exercise bikes, and you go so hard that if they weren't bolted to the floor (OK, so they aren't but....) you would take off. It's hard yakka, and it drops the weight fast. But I find it boring so I don't do it :chuckle:

Ohhhh that's sounds so painful to me

Rosie

It is painful. But I found the underlying boredom even worse. I just couldn't get into it, but then, I don't really enjoy gym classes anyway, they are alright for a break from the everyday, then they become part of the everyday.

I just have the first delivery they send you. No you don't need to know how to dance - I certainly don't! I got the hang of it after doing it twice, its mainly tilting and swinging your hips around to a great beat.

I really don't like crunches and ab exercises so this is perfect for me. I've done it twice now and my tummy and side obliques are pleasantly sore!

Well we basically did a variety of different excercise for a couple minutes each and then rotated.
Started with a job to warm up adn then we did leg work, arm work etc. we used medicine balls a lot, weighs and gym balls but they were all optional. squats and lunges, sit ups and crunches, pitter patter fit, a bit of tae bo, jumpinh jacks, boxing etc it was really fun adn no treadmill or excercise bike in sight!!!

yes 'weight measurement' isn't always the best indication. You can lose heaps of cm's but still sit at the same weight. Muscle is leaner than fat but they still weigh the same.

What's really scary is that I haven't altered what I am eating, or my exercise level, and I haven't had any extra assistance (tonic/meal supplements). Although, if they get to done up, but I can't breathe, I may call in the big guns.

pp cramps can be really common when excerting bursts of energy if you are dehydrated and/or low in magnesium. You obviously need some electrolytes to help control fluid levels in your body. :waving:

princess precious
19-10-2007, 03:30 PM
Ok so where do i find these electrolytes??? because i've only just started exercising and don't really know about this kinda stuff.

SHould i drink more water during the day that i'm gonna do the aqua aerobics???

Rosie
19-10-2007, 03:36 PM
There are drinks available (check which, cause I am not sure) that have electrolytes in them. And no, if that's the issue, water will only flush more of them out.

princess precious
19-10-2007, 04:12 PM
Thanks for the help Rosie. I 'll go on a search for electrolytes. I hope to god they work because i can't handle the toe cramps and calf cramps being so regular.

charismatic
20-10-2007, 12:18 AM
pp your health food store/ chemist/gym will sell these drinks. Suggest you discuss your cramps with them. Rosie is absolutely right regarding more water flushing electrolytes from your system.

Good luck and read your body pp, it will tell you when something is wrong. :hugs:

I actually think it would be worse the other way around. I'm so lazy, I would hate it if it was about 90% exercise. Food I can handle it just takes time to change habits.

jaime
22-11-2007, 12:23 PM
I read an article about habits and I'm pretty sure they said it takes 12 weeks to change your habit. That's why a lot of 'blitzes' are 12 weeks.

Don't quote me on that though!

Dodts and LouLou...how did you guys go? Did you get back into it?

Jaime I am just starting to get back into working out now - I was sick for a while and wasn't allowed to, and prior to this I saw trainer once a week and worked out, and I eat a pretty good blaanced diet.

Getting back into it - one of the keys is not setting yourself to hard of a goal or routine - start slowly, a few times a week, and build that up. Saying to yourself "Right, 5 days a week!" and if you miss one, you then figure why bother and don't do the rest! :chuckle:

If you have a strained relationship with food, eating small meals throughout the day and writing it down will help make you accountable.

I rewards myself with other things for mini goals, like a DVD or new product or some earrings etc, and this helps break the cycle of rewarding with food. And you still need to treat yourself! Just depend what you use and the portion of it. If you deny yourself you are more liekly to binge., It's all about balance.

Are you feeling a bit better today about all the work stuff? :hugs:

I did it!! Was so good, yesterday ate healthy and bought heaps of salad to have with chicken for dinner, then because I ate good yesterday it made me want to exercise. So.. I did 40 minutes on the treadmill, fast power walking and jogging in between, its probably been 3 months since I hopped on it so it was good. Today I have been good eating as well so tonight I will do the treadmill and some weights/situps etc. I have counted down 6 weeks till I go away for a week so that is my goal and I am DETERMINED! :penguin:

Keep mixing up your exercises, a lot of people get bored doing the same thing and then stop altogether.

Dodts and LouLou...how did you guys go? Did you get back into it?

I've been going to the gym at least 3 times a week for the last 3 months. My problem wa the food and alcohol side of things. I have in the past ALWAYS had a glass of wine (sometimes 2) with dinner. Have not done that all of this week. I'm making a concerted effort to only have a glass of wine with my meals when it is a semi-special occasion (like a day with the letter a in it :chuckle:). Yesterday I was really good with food and today I'm planning on a really yummy healthy dinner.

Strangely enough, a frined of mine (the one who came with the cakes the other day) recently had his cholesterol checked and found out last night that it is seriously high. He has asked me to help him organise his cooking and eating habits (first recommendation is see a nutritionist). But that should be good for mee too. If he's going to be getting me to help him plan good food for him, I may as well do the same for me.

All good in theory, let's see how it goes

LouLou
23-11-2007, 03:28 PM
Hi Dodts, I was the same, had a glass of wine with my meals and now I am only going to drink on special occassions, also found I really wasn't enjoying it, and was only drinking purely because of habit. I seem to wake up feeling much more alert and not so fuZZY if I don't have a wine. Although its hard because we are heading for the "festive season".
I think its great that you and your friend will be able to help each other. Keep me posted. :hugs:

ETA: A 32-year-old man was arrested and questioned yesterday but released last night without charge. A police spokeswoman said there was another man police wanted to talk to. The weapon used in the killing has not been found.

Im going to start 2 pilates classes each week for 12 week programme. its only $10 p/wk. - part of my diabetes programme. then in the new year Im enrolling back into dance classes (modern jazz) - a couple of sessions a week. Along with using the treadmill I have downstairs. I suck at going to gyms and places like curves etc ... Yeah I say keep trying RBB. I would try and find somewhere I feel comfortable with, theres nothing worse then hating what you should be trying to enjoy, what's the point in that. It might have just been those places.

I'd say keep at it too. I have been doing pilates once a week for the past 3 1/2 years. I have had major hip and lower back problems throughout most of my adult life and since starting pilates, these have substantially reduced. You don't notice when they are not there but you do notice when the pain returns (as it does every Christmas break becasue we have 6 weeks off and I'm too lazy to do the exercises at home). I will be the 85 year old in the pilates class - I'll keep going until I die. Pilates rules :worship:

jaime

I would find it easier to do pilates in a group class rather than at home. I have a dvd, but I'll just flop if it gets too hard - I need that person telling me to "come on you can do it". That's why I love running with mum, she encourages me to keep going for longer.

Lately I have struggled to exercise during the week, I do what I can but for me its not enough. I'm not motivated after an 11hr day and there's too much to do in the evenings before getting to bed at a reasonable time.
Only a couple of more days of work and then I can dedicate my life to it :spin:.
