View Full Version : Spring Cleaning!
It's spring on the 1st! :clapping: the warmer weather is here! :whipcrack:
Do you do a spring clean? And what do you do?
Do you extend it to the garage or garden and plant new plants, etc?
I'll start off by saying I did one yesterday - threw out old clothes (a perfect excuse to buy more!) old school books i didnt need, rubbish, general tidy and re-organise of everything.

I cleaned my bedroom from top to bottom last week. I even cleaned out my wardrobe and sorted through my endless beauty supplies.

Oooh I love a bit of spring cleaning - but I tend to do it all year round. I am trying to get my landlords to put in new carpet and to paint the walls of my flat - would be just the freshening that I need!!
Now that my bro has moved out of our apartment- I have slowly but surely been tidying the place up. My bookshelf looked like a bomb hit it!! So I tidied that and I feel much better! I really need to go through all my stuff (and I mean ALL! Books, clothes, beauty products and especially shoes) and have a big throw away. I am currently house hunting and it looks like I will be downsizing quite substantially- so I need to rid myself of all my 'stuff'.

I love having a Spring clean where I get rid of all the crap I've hoarded, and I mean everything. I usually have one big clean out a year to get all the clutter out of my life. It's a great feeling when its done!
I agree... it's probably one of my favorite feelings- a freshly cleaned house :spin:

As long as the house looks clean then i am happy. Sometimes i cant relax until the floor is vaccuumed and loose things lying around are stuffed into cupboards.
But things dont have to BE clean they just have to LOOK clean. Out of sight out of mind.

I do a huge clean out twice a year, wardrobes etc. The cupboard in the laundry is full to bursting with junk, but I can't clean it out becasue it's hubby's stuff, and he *needs* all of it.
Once my allergies setle down (soon please!) I will go right though the house with bleach and a big broom.

Same here PCC!! I love keeping windows open too during the warmer months, lovely smell and gives a great feeling. Can't wait for summer! :glee:
Today i will clean out my wardrobe! :whipcrack:
massive task, there's shoes, clothes, tupperware, cds, toiletries, a vacuum cleaner and god knows what else in there! There should only be clothes and shoes, maybe the vacuum cleaner, i have no-where else to put it.
Good excuse to make a list of all the clothes/shoes i want to buy for summer!! :glee:

I am constantly cleaning out things, its a never ending process.
Seasonally I change over all our clothes from Winter to Summer etc. Just pack away all the really Winter things that won't get used in Summer - dressing gowns, thermals, double polar fleece, gloves, beanies etc. Out come the shorts, thongs, singlets, summer frocks, cossies & fake tan! :glee:
With the kids toys as there are sooooo many they threaten to overtake the whole house. I find that if the kids havbe too many options they don't play with things properly they just pull it all out & make a tremendous mess. So I pack lots of things away in storage tubs & rotate them. The girls feel like they are getting new playthings & never get bored of them.
In Autumn & Spring I overhaul the garden. massive weed, feed, mulch etc.

M, this is me to the core.
However, living in Melbourne I find that I can wear most of my wardrobe through the 4 seasons, therefore, it is only the really light Summer clothing or the heavy Winter garb that I place in airbags when not required.
Loving gardening at the moment. This morning has been gloriously sunny and perfect for playing of the garden variety. :waving: Over the past week I have been out buying gardenias and daphne for the terrace.
:redcheeks: But I guess this is another thread!

One of the 3 Gardenias I transplanted has died, but I have another on the way.

Here's a cool tip! (i stole from somone else)"
Make scented baking soda by adding 3-5 drops of essential oils to 2 cups of baking soda. Mix well and air dry. Then sprinkle it onto your carpet as both a cleaner and odour buster. Let it sit for 15 mins then vacuum clean.

I'm doing the big clean in two weeks when I have some time off. I'm usually pretty good about saying goodbye to things in the closet that haven't been worn for a while; it's just the procrastination that leaves them sitting there!
Such a good feeling though when you've finished a good chuck-out! Did that just sound as sad as I think it did? :chuckle:

Yeah, my 'robe needs a darn good sort 'n' toss, but first, I have GOT to get in the garden. I lost my labrador in the back yard the other day, and the twitch in the fron is knee-high. The fact that we are the level after a dirty great hill means we have great water catchment, and thus everything goes mad in Spring.

I did a bit of spring cleaning yesterday!!! In our house the back and sides are all glass doors (ie not walls). We also have ten trillion windows - locking up at night takes forever!! Anyway yesterday I cleaned all the doors, windows and flyscreens all through the house except for bedrooms. It took SO LONG and was such hard, gross work. I squeegeed all the windows and doors, then cleaned them all with window cleaner and newspaper, and I cleaned the flyscreens (which took frickin ages) with a brush and then with rags soaked in hot soapy water. Ugh the water was SO gross afterwards. It made a huge difference though because the light coming into the house is so much clearer now!

Yes, well, mine just got a bit of a lesson in life. We got a TV on the account at the electrical shop, and we've been paying it off. Hubby says to me' How much have we paid off now?'
Me: '$1000. and You have $500 in the bank once J gives you that money back.'
Hubby: 'Oh no, I have $500 now, I went and got it, and there's another $120 in the bank. We'll have it paid by next week.'
Me: What? How? There's still $470 owing.'
Hubby: 'Well, you have the money for your trip now.... so whatever we can get together we can pay off the TV.'
Me: Ummmm, no. Whatever you put away can go off it, I want to have a healthy fund for my trip.'
Hubby: 'But you have nearly $X00 for it.'
Me: 'No I bluddy don't!'
Hubby: 'You had over $Y00 last week! What did you do with it?'
Me: 'Airfares! And I still have to pay for somewhere to sleep, and I am not going to live on fresh air and sunshine while I am there! Whatever i get away between now and when I leave goes with me. Whatever comes back, can go off the TV.'
Hubby now says (get this) '$Y00, surely you won't spend that much while you are there?!!' wearing a horrified expression.
Me: 'Probably not, but I want it in case I feel like spending it.'
At this point, he decided that he had best be stepping down, before I reminded him of how my tax money got spent on household stuff - again! Actually, I think he just decided that he didn't want me mad, but I am sure that at some stage this month he will need a not-so-gentle reminder of the whole 'Where did my tax money go?' thing.

Today an entire new room of furniture arrived at our place. My Mum is one of these people who changes things every couple of years sot here has been massive spring cleaning going on in order for the new furniture to arrive and go straight into position. Out with the old and in with the new! Problem is that the old is not that old!
My Mum is a solid blackwood junkie so today arrived:
A new solid blackwood and lead lighted china cabinet
A new solid blackwood coffee table
A new solid blackwood TV cabinet to sit ubnderneith the new 60 inch Plasma!
A super comfy couch and two recliners !

I've often wondered what redecorators do with their "old" furniture. What does you mum do?

She sells a bit of it and passes other bits on to family members or friends. Anything that others don't want but is still in good condition she donates to The Salvation Army.

Ugh I have SO much housework to do and I DON'T WANNA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have to do stupid outdoors work which I hate hate hate hate hate doing.
I really hate housework too - doing the dishes more than anything.
However, I love outdoor work.. mowing the lawn, doing the gardens etc! It's very satisfying to see a beautiful yard after all that hard work

Oh dishes suck - our dishwasher just broke and whilst I do handwash a bit of stuff, it's nice being able to throw other things in andpress buttons!

Oh, stop it Loola! You are torturing me! :chuckle: I wish I had a dishwasher, although it'd be just one more thing for the males to break, and me to have to pay someone to fix :shakehead:
I was in the garden today, and I made a big mess, but had a blast. I think I prefer destructing things to constructing them, mainly becuase the results are so immediate!:spin:

I cleaned for most of the day today. Cleaned out my perfume cabinet and dusted each bottle then put it all back into its place. Cleaned my dresser my french doors, my bedside tables. Basically the room was cleaned from top to bottom. It is now sparking clean and very pretty.

I killed to spiders in my room today! They were only little but still. Was not happy! So I cleaned my room quick smart. I hate thinking that they could be crawling around under that t-shirt on the ground.
