Take on look at Nicolette Sheridan as Edie in Desperate Housewives and you’ll know what I mean. It’s kind of like wearing two different coloured socks. The face is a creamy meringue and from the chin to chest we are looking at a little bit of over baked apple pie.

‘Thou shalt wear sunscreen’ is the beauty savvy gal’s mantra these days but how many rely on the protection of a foundation with some form of SPF? What about the neck, décolletage, hands?

Whilst chatting with make up artist Nigel Stanislaus, he too expressed concern at the dilemma that a lack of well applied sunscreen causes; ‘How to colour match?’ is the issue presenting itself.

With many make up products now containing an SPF girls have a protected face yet a baked neck if they are not applying a broad spectrum screen to any sun exposed skin. Nigel finds it’s simply a case of having to match the sun damaged neck and chest in order to create a natural look. Two toned skin just doesn’t work.

The moral of this story is that it’s nice to have a sun protection factor in make up but don’t rely on it. Your face is a small area of the bigger picture which needs TLC too. You may have a flawless face, but if you look like a prune from the neck down not even a full blown face lift is gonna hide your age sweetie!

AMEN SISTER!! :worship:

Often then sunprotection in makeup (as flimsy as it is) doesnt even portect you from UVA rays anyways!! NOT BROAD SPECTRUM AT ALL!!! :shakehead:So you'll still look like a leather hand bag anyways. I say invest in a good zinc based sunscreen that will give you the full protection of all the rays and then have your makeup over the top.

Amen halleleua (spelling!- I shall call it catholic scholl girl rebellion!) praise the lord!

Damned good point- not all sunscreens or make up offer a broad spectrum SPF!!

I wear sunscreen every day. I am fair so burn easily. I have never been a sunbaker and avoid any uneccesary exposure to sun and any from of heat really!

Allison - I'm stealing your tip about keeping some SPF in the car for my hands. :worship:

I wish they made a sunscreen with a colour guide. One that say went on blue then disappeared into your skin after 2min. Just so you'd know if you missed any spots. Tricky for the body.

someone should get onto that - fantastic idea!!!:clapping:

i still remember some years ago going to the beach and asking my accompanying friend to put sunscreen on my back.. but they had no idea about applying sunscreen so when i got home my back was red with white hand prints... i didn't know whether to laugh or cry

They do have one! Ambre Solaire makes a green-tinted one for kids, and there is also a purple-tinted Ego Sunsense one.

Must find the purple one - might inspire Mr12 again. I get sooooo tired of arguing with him.

Hey Alice- thanks for listening to the music.

The EP is all done! You can hear it all on myspace. You can buy tunes from the EP on itunes now if you're not in australia! :glee:

Yes you go gals- sunscreen in the car is great but make sure it's a zinc one- other chemical blocks need to be applied a half hour before sun exposure to be effective where zinc provides a more physical screen so is ok to use right away.
