I would like to buy a new perfume but I'm not sure what to buy when I get to the duty free zone. I went to Myer, but I felt bad smelling away with no intention of buying, and the SA really only showed me fragrances from her area.
Currently I wear Stella McCartney, and I do love it, but find it disappears after spraying it. No one has ever said 'you smell nice' so I don't think it's a case of 'it suits me' either.
Like:
- floral (but not gardenia - I think. The Michael Kors one? )
- fresh
- something 'different'
Don't like:
- J'adore. Gave me a bit of a headache - why is that?
- Foody scents.
- 'Night' perfumes. Too strong.
The SA in Myer did give me a try of the new Thierry Mugler fragrance, which was lovely but quite sweet.
Does anyone have Gucci II? I tried this a couple of years ago and liked it.

Lol, Caffeine I was about to suggest Stella because you like 'different' florals without the gardenia but then I noticed you said you already liked that one!
Mmm...what about the new Badgely Mischa one? It is a 'different' rather glamorous floral but it is a bit sweet on first sniff.
Lancome also do beautiful fresh florals - have you tried any of these?
Bvlgari pour femme is a classic floral that is a bit modern too. Subtle hints of violette, not too sweet or heady.
Are there any floral notes or flowers you like in particular? What other perfumes have you really liked previously?

Oh that's right! I was going to check out a Bvlgari one. That must be it.
I have to take back the comment about gardenia. It's jasmine that is too heady. It's either in Michael Kors or Marc Jacobs.
In the past, I've loved Paul Smith Women and Very Valentino. I do like Eternity, but it is quite strong for everyday. I was going to try Eternity Moment or Summer. I do like CK Truth.
I have been given, but can't wear, Red Door, Tresor, Versace Woman and Dolce Vita.
Am I all over the place?

Annick Goutal does a lot of lovely florals. In particular, try Ce Soir ou Jamais, Quel Amour!, Heure Exquise, Grand Amour, and Rose Absolue.
Have you tried any of the Renee fragrances?

SJP's Lovely is lovely! Not overpowering. Like you, don't like anything too strong, but like something fresh and a bit floral. I also use the body lotion (sometimes on it's own) and I have had a number of comments that "I smell nice". I often just use the body lotion in summer - it's quite enough. I've smelt her new fragrance, but still prefer Lovely. Ralph Lauren has some lovely fresh fragrances as well. I like Romance.

Thanks Kate. I haven't tried either of those. Are they available at the duty free stores?

The Renee ones won't be at duty free I don't think, but Annick Goutal should be.

Gucci II is lovely but it is a bit sweet. I have it but wouldn't wear it everyday.
What about the new Jean Paul Galtier one? I think it is unisex but it is sooooo hot. I have a sample and I just love it. It has depth and lasts all day and is just divine

I'm hitting the duty free soon too!
The duty free websites give you an indication of what you can/can't get.
Also, for help on fragrances, the Perfume Connection have a tool on their website where you select your current favourites and it matches up others that you should like.
I adore SJP's Lovely and am also a fan of Covet now. I'm going to try and pick both of these up duty free if I can... and maybe some more Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel if the budget stretches that far (even though there are two bottles on the go already nowhere near empty!)

Ooohhh. I forgot about Coco Mademoiselle... I have Coco Chanel as a sophistamicated evening scent, and quite like the lighter version. Lots to check out now!

Do let us know how you go on your quest, CA :)
Bvlgari Rose Essential is a beautiful scent too. I love roses to death and this one is very pretty and light - but perhaps a bit too much so for me...a little too 'clean' if that makes sense. However, still an exquisite scent so you should try it if interested.

I think I'm going to get Gucci eau de parfum II. I just love it.
Quote: Mandarin, bitter orange and blackcurrant, and harmonized with a fusion of violet and blackberry and a musk mix of fresh jasmine, heliotrope and cedar wood.

Sounds like you might enjoy Marc Jacobs. Some of his perfumes are floral & fresh, as well as being 'different' since we are talking MJ here :)

To add to the above, something like (Marc Jacobs) Daisy. If you want fresh - Cucumber springs to mind.

Well I went through the duty free sniffing away. The beauty section of duty free is how I imagine heaven to be... :chuckle:
I found out that a friend of mine can get perume cheaper though. I have ordered Gucci Eau de Parfum II 75ml which was $75 compared to $99 duty free or $154 rrp. It's genuine by the way...
I tried both the Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors and they were a bit sweet. I think it's the jasmine.
