Hello Peoples
I'd like some feedback and suggestions on my skincare routine.
About me- I clean twice daily and wear sunscreen most every day... I am happy to spend money on good products, but don't want to have an expensive routine for the sake of it. Like simple not too harsh cleanser and moisturiser, then add actives in a ‘serum’ step. Prefers not to have jars, as I go camping often.
Skin type- dryish combination with congestion around nose and chin. Monthly hormonal breakouts. Some pigmentation. Skin not super sensitive, but has bouts of it. Almost 30, with dry skin around eyes. I smile often so would like an eye cream which may have some cumulative effect.
Routine-
Am
Cleanser- cetaphil
Scrub- angels on bare skin- using up last of daily microfoliant, but find it dries my skin out a bit.
Serum- currently using prescriptives super line preventor as moisture boost, but have used skinceuticals c+e ferulic before and liked that. Do I really need to use anything here?
Moisturiser- Sunsence 30+ antiaging moisturiser with aha’s -> http://www.sunsense.com.au/products_ageing.php
Eyecream- Using random samples up... nothing great
Pm-
Cleanser- Dermalogica Pre Cleanse (using up) then Dove Gentle foaming (but using this up to) Will probably change to burts Bee's orange essence cleanser- its almost oil cleansing... http://www.burtsbees.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10751&storeId=10101&productId=10166&langId=-1&categoryId=&showSubCategory=yes
Toner- Clinique mild toner- has 0.5 % BHA's
Serum- alternating between MD formulations night recovery & skin ceuticals retinol 0.5
Moisturiser- using up samples
Eyecream- currently using up samples of stuff, but main concerns are moisture and doing something about fine lines, and preventative helping out smile lines.
I’ve sampled and liked Dermalogica skin smoothing cream, and a few Aesop products like primrose moisturiser and liked them too..
Basically need reccomendations for serum stages am & Pm, what moisturiser to use in PM and an eye cream... But willing to look at a whole new system..

Thanks PCC... Will Do
Was just poking around on the site and saw the new Ultraceuticals C Diminish Cream stuff... Do you think something like that could be a good night cream/treatment. Then I could take some steps out??

It sounds good, but am wondering if anyone has a view on whether this could be used in conjunction with the MD formulations Night Recovery (it also has Vit A in it)...
Do you think the new Ultra C eyecream could be a goer also?

I wouldn't use Ultra C Diminish as well as MD Night Recovery. Ultra C Diminish has a high concentration of retinol in it so you wouldn't want to double up.
I haven't tried the new Ultra C eye cream yet.

Hello there!
It's not a good idea to double up on Retinol for sure. The night recovery doesn't contain retinol in the pure form, it's retinol palmitate, but even so not the best idea to double up.
In answer to your question about AM serums, it is a good idea. If you want to continue to use a simple hydrating sunscreen then you do really need a more active product in the morning to boost the results of your skin care.
No need to scub daily (unless it's the microfoliant which is mild and designed for daily use)- any other exfoliant should be used three times a week for the most part.
The Ultra C diminish would be a good option for your skin of an evening. One way of working things would be to use this in the evening and to still get your AHA fix in there too (which is what the night recovery is giving your skin) then I would suggest either the liquid gold: http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=381 or the even skintone serum: http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=1829 . Apply after cleansing and before moisturising.
If you want a more hydrating cleanser with a milky texture you could consider the MD formulations cleanser: http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewItem.asp?idproduct=3841 or the Alpha H balancing cleanser: http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=376 or the Ultraceuticals milk cleanser: http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=1826
Use your cleanser both morning and night time and I have no problem with clients cleansing in the shower as long as it's not steaming hot water that you are using.
Our key ingredients are all there in this simple routine- your retinol for pigmentation and congestion. C for sensitivity and age prevention and clearing. Glycolic to elimate dry skin cells and clear...
You also asked about an eye cream. I do suggest a touch of retinol in this case so the ultra Aeye cream is always a winner: http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=1835
If you want extra deep hydration during the winter and plumness I suggest applying the dermadoctor eye cream over the top: http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewItem.asp?idproduct=8294
So there you have it, I think I have answered most of your questions there...
I didn't want to over load you so let me know if you want to ask me of for me to add to this at all...
Basically laid out this is what we have:
am
cleanse - alpha h, ultraceuticals or MD cleanser... your choice. (see links in main section)
apply liquid gold or even skintone serum (see links in main section)
apply your broad specturm sun screen such as Alpha H ultra protecto: http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=803r or ultraceuticals protective daily moisturiser http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewItem.asp?idproduct=1831
and of course the ultra a eye cream. http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=1835
PM
cleanse as above
apply ultra C diminish cream: http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=10453
apply eye cream as above

ok
I am belated coming back to all this again!!:redcheeks:
Just wondering Alison
Would it be possible to come in and try out some of the cleanser and monring sunscreen/moisturisers? These are the products that I seem to have the most trouble being happy with...
Do you think the Gentle MD formulations would be a good option to start with also?
Other that that the routine you put together sounds great, as on the off days when introducing the Diminish, I could use up existing aesop primrose moisturiser.
My only other question would be, of the two morning options, even tone & liquid gold, which would be the least drying. Alcohol seems to be high up in the ingredients for both of these products...
Would using a seperate UC A & C product alternate evenings, with something like the skinceutical phyto+ be another way of approaching.
Should I just come in for a facial and get some advice or get an afternoon off and come in one tuesday or wednesday (did I read that somewhere) and have a bit of a play?

Hi there,
we don't have testers of MD formulations in store but we do have testers of the even skintone serum and liquid gold. Usually the MD gentle cleanser is for more sensitive/reactive skin types. It has a higher PH so doesn't feel as tingly.
You can definitely alternate C dminish with other C and A products on alternate nights and yes phyto + can also be used under those.
I am happy for you to book for a facial if you would like a treatment and to feel more of the products on your skin.

I am going OS at easter for 4 months so am trying to get my skincare regime sorted, and pared back by then, so I don't have to drag too many products away with me... Plus I am supposed to be saving money. :redcheeks: (again)..
AM
Cleanser- ?? TBD, but maybe the milder MD formulations so I don't have to take 2 with me, and it should work if my skin does go through a 'sensitive' phase whilst away? Or maybe the Milk cleanser
serum- UC Even tone, or Liquid Gold TBD
serum 2- skinceuticals phyto+ (to add some moisture and calm any irritation too) will it do this.. am getting a sample sent to me from skinceuticals in perth..
moisturiser/sunscreen- 30 + moisturiser/sunscreen TBD- do you have testers of the ones you suggested @ the salon? I just got a sample of the new UC 30+ at lunch time so will at least know about that one!
PM
Cleanser- as above
Either Alternate nights ultra A & C. I have a sample of the sheer formulations so can see if its moisturising enough. OR
UC Diminish alternated with aesop primrose until used to it, or if skin gets sensitive..
Plus the eyecreams.. would the even skin travel pack be a good way of checking out some of those products, then I get the eyecream you suggested free? then add in the C/A/Diminish..
argh... silly too many options..
p.s do you have any vacancies for facials before christmas? either afterhours, or on weekends (asking the impossible I know)

Hi there,
as I said we do have all the testers of alpha h in store so you can definitely try the sunscreen- no problem!
If you feel your skin has been reactive then perhaps the sensitive skin formula would be better for now if you are travelling.
Generally you sound like you are considering way too many options and are doing a bit of tail chasing. By getting a travel pack you do get products but all of those may not be the best for your skin.
... maybe it's best to go ahead and book an appointment. Yes we have vacancies before christmas but things are getting busier. You can book by calling 03 93481915 and viola the gals will arrange an appointment for you.
If you book a treatment facial or treatment facial with peel we can do a thorough treatment and consult and write out a program for you.

I've come in already :)
Had a lovely facial on the weekend...
So Ive now got the following regime..
AM- MD formulations cleanser
C 10 serum
Ultra C eye cream
UC 30+ sunscreen moisturiser
PM
Cleanser- as above
UC A serum
Eye Cream,
Then SKinceuticals Emollience...
Plus weekly scrubs (MD formulations) and hydration (UC hydration booster).
I've got to finish off some other moisturiser first, then I will get the Emollience..
I will order the serum and scrub in the next day or so so I can use over xmas.. I've tested out the cleanser and it seems really nice, but I am just finishing off old cleanser first... If I had it open to I'd have 3 cleansers on the go, which is a bit much even for me!

Hi Alison
I got given the Sheer 20 C cream for christmas.. :-)
I started off using it every second day for my skin to get used to it, but its happy now.
Is it ok for me to use this instead of the c-10 serum?

Yes it's fine if your skin is all fine with it, no problems there!

Just another quick few questions about my regime.. some notes added in quote, actual questions below.
In Summary, If I go to a more active night cream (possibly Alpha H Age Delay) would you still reccomend the MD Formulations scrub?
So Ive now got the following regime..
AM- MD formulations cleanser- I am still using up Aesop Fabulous Cleanser in the mornings. Its almost gone, and should be fine using the MD stuff in the mornings once this happens.
MD skincare AHA/BHA daily peel pads- using up, still have2-3 weeks worth. UC ESTS serum or PTR unwrinkle pads were reccomended.. still unsure which if any to get.
C 10 serum- using UC C Sheer instead.- this stuff is great.
Ultra C eye cream- now using twice daily, its good.
UC 30+ sunscreen moisturiser- yep good!
PM
Cleanser- as above
UC A serum- like what it does for my skin, but hate the chalky feel and residue it leaves on my skin. Not looking to repurchase once its finished.
Eye Cream,
Then SKinceuticals Emollience... Still using up Aesop Primrose cream, alternated with Dermalogica Multivitamin mask thinly used as night cream to use up... thinking maybe a more active alternative.
Plus weekly scrubs (MD formulations) and hydration (UC hydration booster).
!
A couple of queries...
1. Night Cream- Can I use an active night cream, like the Alpha H Age Delay? My skin seems happy with actives when introduced properly, and if my skin does (rarely) go mental I tend to go back to complete basics of cetaphil cleanser and cream for a couple of days to let it settle anyway. I generally have these on hand. Would this mean I wouldn't have to use the AHA/BHA step (in whatever form) in the morning? I could alternate a day or two a week with UC diminish? or UC A treatment cream even?
2. Cleanser- if I used an active night moisturiser is it still ok to use MD formulations cleanser? Also I was comtemplating getting a wipe off cleanser for when I am camping and there is no running water. Would a onestep clarins one be good for getting rid of sunscreen, sweat and dirt? Or is there another good wipe off cleanser you would reccomend? if all else fails I could just use face wipes.. :chuckle:
3. Scrub- if an active night moisturiser is used would the MD formulations scrub still be your reccomendation?
Thanks again for all your knowledgable help Allison, muchly appreciated.

You can use an active night cream with the MD cleanser. It's not a problem, that cleanser has some glycolic, but it's not being left on your skin so not a prob.
You can be using the exfoliant 2-3 times a week also, yes.
As for cleansing to get rid of gunk while camping and so on you could look at the clarins one step cleansers, this may work for camping: http://www.adorebeauty.com.au/adorebeauty/viewitem.asp?idproduct=7708
Does that answer everything?

Almost...
:redcheeks:
So, if I used Age Delay, I could leave out the AHA/BHA morning step (i.e. UC ETS?)
Otherwise yes, thank you greatly...
Lady Allison (Staff)

sure, if you want to keep it simple you can do. The age delay contains AHA and BHA as the primary active ingredients with a mild derivative of vitamin A (not as strong as retinol) in 1% form.
