I used to wash my hair every day... then bcos of the "you need natural oils" bull... I was washing it once every 4 to 5 days... It was killing me..I couldnt go longer... I found that it did nothing to help my hair look or feel good.. Now I wash my hair every 2nd day and my hair is thanking me for it... Its in the best condition its ever been. Has anyone else found this?

Yep, my hair goes feral if I leave it unwashed for more than two days. The ends frizz up and the roots go oily. If it wasn't coloured I'd wash it every single day, I love clean hair and absolutely cannot stand dirty hair. Mine is in its best condition when washed frequently too, as long as I don't blow-dry and straighten too much.

I dont frizz up I just get itchy and it drives me nuts... ughhh.... I think my hair prefers being super clean rather than having natural oils.. :chuckle::chuckle::chuckle:

I wash my hair every second day, I have extremely thick hair and a sensitive scalp so I don't like to over wash but i don't like to go more then two days with out washing otherwise it goes feral.

Hi Tahlie - welcome! :waving:

I wash mine every two to three days... just depends on if I've loaded it up with product or not as to how soon I feel I need to wash it. Also tend to wash more frequently as I'm nearing my next trip to the hairdresser - keeps it looking blonder when it's clean (funny that!) :chuckle:

If my hair is dirty, I feel dirty. Every second day for me. My hair is oily so I couldnt stand leaving it unwashed for longer. Unless Im really lazy and only at home! In summer if its really hot and sticky I will occasionally wash it once a day because of the sweat factor.

ooh yeah I'm like that in summer too... or If I've had a very good work out at the gym! (which i haven't had to really worry about cause i've been sooooooooo slack lately!)

I was my hair every second day also. When I wash it, I wear it down. When its dirty, I wear it up .... So basically I wear my hair one day out/down and one day tied up !

I hate washing my hair as it is so long & thick. Washing it is quite a mission. I wash my hair every 4th day. My scalp doesn't get oily so I can get away with it. If I leave it any longer I get really itchy.

Yes, yes, yes Blondie. I'm a blondie too and my scalp is oily but my (long) ends very dry and brittle. So if I didn't wash it every day it looked and felt dull and oily by the second day. But my hair kept breaking and one too many people told me not to wash every day. It took a while for me to be convinced because I adore the scent of freshly washed hair, and the silky feeling of it, but now I wash every second or third day. But I can only do this with Klorane dry oat shampoo. Without it my hair still looks lank on the second day - to me anyway!

I agree sapph, if you colour your hair, you have to put stuff in it quite regularly otherwise it looks crap and dry.. Not washing your hair for days on end like some recommend, doesnt help it because you are not treating it and hydrating it.. iykwim? thats what I found anyway.

nattieb, The looks blonder factor once you wash it, is not so strange, when my girls wash their hair, it always looks heaps blonder and my little one is naturally a platinum blonde.

My hair does this too. My hair always seems to look blonder/lighter and a 'cleaner' colour whenever I have it washed, cut and styled at the hairdresser. Does anyone else notice this?

Something else I found out about blonde hair... This neighbour of mine will sometimes come across for a chat when I am out mowing the lawn.. Anyway, she came over and asked me whether my girls hair had ever turned "green".. She said, I thought you may know seeing you have blonde hair and so have your girls.. I said, no... not unless you have tried bleaching it yourself? and had a hair disaster... apart from that I dont know why.... Its never happened to us... Anyway, she said, no i dont colour my daughters hair.

So next time I was at the hd, I asked them and they asked me if she had a pool... I said yeah they have.. and the hd said, if her daughter swims in the pool and then doesnt wash her hair... Like for a week or more, it will turn green.... ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww gross!!!

They are pretty grotty when i think about it... but I never told her.. :chuckle: cos I gotta live here. :chuckle::chuckle:

I try every couple of days, but if I know I'm just pottering around home or if I know I'm nothing going to be going out other than to uni etc I try to draw it out a few more days, I use to wash it every day but I hate having to wash it everytime! ... I'm getting lazy on my hair hygiene (not to say that I have neglected body hygiene I haven't! I love my showers way too much!) since I've gone back to uni - as I can just roughly tie it up and be none the wiser for a couple of hours in a lecture before coming back home.

I would loooove to wash every day if it weren't for the colour and the amount of time it takes to style it. As it is I wash it every second day and I tryyyy to stretch it out to every third day (it has to be up though).

Geez, I am so jealous TT! I wash mine every day, because it needs it every day. Sometimes of a weekend if I am just slobbing around the house (so basically never) I can go 2, cause it doesn't matter if it is grotty. Those are generally the weekends when I give it a good deep treatment.

I recently started washing my hair once a week and I found it has made SUCH a big difference to the streght and moisture in my hair. I am lucky to have to wear my hair up and back everyday so the natural oils act as product to keep my fine hair in place. I also found that since stooping using hairspray regularly as helped alot too!!

I've started washing my hair every second day recently after being an everyday washer for about 10 years, and I've found it's made such a difference. My hair is softer, shinier, more manageable and is loving the natural oils. Although, I would hate to go any longer, 3 days is just pushing it!

I really depends on your hair and it's different for everyone. I have to wash my hair twice a week. I have to. Otherwise it looks disgusting. I do have hair that gets dirtier faster (someone commented on this when I was young! I nearly died) so washing once a week is definitely not an option for me.

loolabelle
11-03-2008, 04:05 PM
Yeah I'd be the same Toastie. I cna only do 2/3 only because I wear my hair back alot so I can get away with it, but I don't like going too many days as it feels dirty, even if it still looks passable in a ponytail.

Unfortunately my hair is very fine and flat and needs a lot of volume. My parents are exactly the same, actually I blame them for my oily skin and oily hair darnit! But I've been trying very hard to work out how to style it on the second day so that I don't wash it and overstrip the oils. Must get some of that dry shampoo. And a personal stylist...

I'm in the same boat Milo. My hair is fairly fine and limp and quite oily. I'd love to be able to go longer but at the moment I'm every 2-3 days (the third day is usually pretty mank).

usually my fringe is what drags me down... it gets dirty the quickest...

Oh see I'm the opposite. My hair is quite thick. My bf hates me because he says the same thing. He has to wash he's hair every second say otherwise it looks crap but mine just looks normal.
But to me I can't tell that he's hair looks crap. He's just really paranoid that it's going to fall out. He uses better hair products than I do :chuckle:

Hey Trash,
When you have dreads as you do, is there anything special you have to do when washing your hair? or do you just treat it normally?

Toastie
12-03-2008, 03:40 PM
My sister got dreads a few months ago and found that she's been getting really bad dandruff recently! I went to the chemist and got her shampoo but it made her hair STINK! Which I thought was stupid. What is the point of making a shampoo that will get rid of one social problem (dandruff) but just cause another one (stinky hair!)???

Trash

Hey Trash,

Yeah I do. I use this all natural shampoo (the wax provides conditioners so you don't need any) but because my hair is half dreads and half my hair, I use shampoo and conditioner on the non dreaded hair as well.
