View Full Version : winter day dreaming

Oh summer is in the air, as I sit here slurping on my vege soup (because I failed to make anything interesting for lunch) I am thinking of the spotted bathers I love and of laying in the park with a cool beer.
I am dreaming of summer dresses and thongs and brightly painted toes, of barbeques and the smell of lawn clippings.
I was just whinging at how damned hot it is today. Where is an icy pole when you need one? When I get home from my day of work I shall contemplate going for a dip to relax my aching shoulders I achieved in pump class.
Perhaps we'll dine al fresco tonight? A nice fresh salad and come chilled sangria for dinner.
I shall go to bed under just one sheet with the fan and be woken by the sun nice and early.
A gal's gotta make believe sometimes.

Don't wish winter away just yet!
Remember how long and very, very hot the past summer was? It was getting ridiculous and my friends and I were all pining for some cold weather. For the chance to wear tights and jumpers and scarves... to want to sleep in and enjoy coffee and open fireplaces and winter roasts and puddings...
Summer will be here in the blink of an eye, so I am trying to enjoy what is left of this glorious, rainy winter while it lasts!

Ohhhhhh I want summer back too!! Although I have noticed that in the past week, here at least, the chill has left the air and it is starting to become nice and warm during the daytime again (it's 23 here at the moment). But you're right, Alli - I'm ready for pretty toes and sandals and BBQs too! Bring on summer fashion, I say - I'm so over grey and black!

Oh I do love my summer dresses. I am wearing one today with two layers underneath. I cycled to work like a mad woman (getting in the exercise) and put my trackie pants on top of the stockings under the dress. layer upon layer upon layer like a black pastry!
but ya know.. red wine and an open fire - bliss. I only have a gas heater, but if I make believe....

Love it. And I don't have an open fire either - nor have I been near one all winter - but the idea is lovely!!

Keeping in mind all I've said, I do love rugging up and having rosy cheeks and matte skin in winter! Sitting around in a singlet with sweaty stringy hair is just not quite as pretty, somehow! But oh how I love having icecream down at the beach in a white dress and havaianas with shiny gerbera-pink nails! Oh, and I'm totally looking forward to wearing coral blush and lipgloss again, it just seems so wrong in winter.
EDIT: Does anyone else have delusions of Goddessness when thinking about summer? I always think "oh yeah, when summer finally comes I'll totally start wearing floaty little white dresses, they'll look awesome with my smooth tanned body and lightly sunkissed hair..." and then I have to snap out of it and remind myself "Umm dude, you have NO tan and legs that probably shouldn't be seen!".

I do I do!! :penguin::penguin:
I see things in the shops and mags and think how g-or-g-eous I'm going to look until I come crashing back down to earth (wintery earth) and realise that the legs are hairy and somewhat scaly and very white (almost glow in the dark - actually they DO glow in the dark!) and that all that hot comfort food I've eaten has made for a muffin top and not so shapely body and I can't ever bee seen in public with anything less than a tshirt and 3/4 pants!!

Yep. I too am pasty and hairy now. Oh and I HATE exposing my fat arms in summer, but I hate wearing tops that have sleeves cos I feel too hot and sweaty. It is a vicious cycle. And everyone looks skinny and hot in summer and I feel like a fat, over-exposed frump

I am such a winter girl. Although I don't like it as freezing as it has been here in Tassie I do like the cooler weather. I think the clothes are far better suited to me and my body shape in winter as opposed to summer. Although the one thing I do look forard to in summer is the Australian open tennis. I just love my tennis and Mum and I are thinking of going to wimbledon next year!
I love tennis too! It would be awesome to go to Wimbledon... you should definately do it!

I think we will VeeE my mum and I are massive tennis fans. Mind you I get sick to death of Roger Federer winning all the time. I love him but everyone knows he is going to win so it gets a tad boring. I love the womens tennis best!

the friend that i mentioned had a tennis party last year for her birthday at the lovely carlton gardens tennis courts. Everyone dressed up in white dorky tennis gear. One of the guys looked like macenroe (spelling anyone?) he had a moustache (his own!) and sweat bands.
we drank punch and had cupcakes (and beer) courtside. A unique way to celebrate a birthday! It was almost 40degrees and everyone looked like beetroots : )

I went out last night and wore shorts and a light top. It was SO lovely to not have to rug up!

You have to move to the tropics! Oh yeah! I absolutely adore this time of year up here. I know it sounds cliched, but you can SMELL flowers on the air in the evening! Everyone has been commenting on it!
