I read an article recently which said that a lot fo research has been done on plasma and Lcd televisions of late and that they are now very much on an even par. Will see if I can dig the article up. We have three LCD's at our place but am considering updating one of them again soon.

colour is better on a plasma but if u watch a lot of tele , say movies with the widescreen 'stripes' they can imprint eventually

Home stuff I bought recently: a porcelain tea set with jug and four cups (cherry blossom design). It's super-girly, so of course I make the boys use it as much as possible.

hmm can't you just wash it in the washing machine every few weeks in napisan or bleach and then totally dry it in the sun before using again? or if it's super cheap, don't bother and just buy a new one when it gets cruddy! :chuckle:

Just got the boy a Breville juicer for dad's day. he has wanted one for ages & the kids are super excited.
I was interested to read that instead of just throwing the pulp in the compost you can use it for cooking & they provide a recipe booklet to show you how. Very thoughtful. I hate waste.

Ohhh - that clang doesn't work for me! Especially living with Mr Gaaaay 2007. I love the look of glass but maybe not so practical. I have enquired about one at freedom also, a wood top instead.

I would LOVE a big square solid wood table - but then that wold be all i would have and don't fancy sitting at it with my pink bean bag and folding chairs from the balcony hehe.

Skip the glass, I have a glass dining table (was hubby's Nan's) and it's a NIGHTMARE!! The glass is really thick, but it's a nightmare to clean, especially after a hard night with 12 year olds & sugar or 18 year olds & alcohol.

Today, we (we? wtf? I) bought a 106cm plasma TV. Our old one (old? wtf?) died when hubby tried to link the media centre (don't ask) to it, and it went 'Hell No!' and refused to work any more. So a new tele was in order, and I was standing there looking at these $800 sets that hubby decided were a good deal, going 'Why bother? We will end up trading up inside of 12 months, and wasting our $$, so let's go for it now.' Hubby ummed and aahhed (wtf? reluctance to spend on electronics, and someone else's money to boot), so we got this one for $1900.

Hubby is now on a severe money diet (he OWES me) and so is everyone else in the house. And there will be no bitching about how I spend my money from here on out. I have spoken!

Awesome charismatic - I will be going there with bells on! wooo! thanks for the tip. I will be sure to post piccies once i get more furniture (other than the TV, my lovely white fluffy rug and beautiful sofa).

I went to the Camberwell market on Sunday morning and bought beautiful fresh irises. Flowers are the biggest pick-me-up and apartment-transformer in my opinion.

I got a bunch of blue and a bunch of yellow/white irises, split them and put a bunch of mixed colours in my living room and bedroom. Make it look so pretty and fresh!

A few weeks ago I got the most divine tulips. I just buy whatever is on offer, 2 bunches for $10! They are straight from the flower farms and sold at wholesale prices. Perfect!

Camberwell has everything. Used mostly, but my friends often find great stuff. I never seem to buy anything. It's too hard to get in and have a good look at the stalls cos it is always so busy! That - and I never have any cash. So I buy flowers and wander around with a coffee. Bliss. It's a 3 minute walk from my flat so too easy!

Kind of! My brother and I are extremely close. They have just built their own house (which is absolutely gorgeous) and I have been collecting things for them over the last few months.

I have bought them a complete set of pots, microwave, Vaccume Cleaner, sets of glasses and heaps of other bits and pieces. I love air-con!! Love sleeping in it and love being in it! I suppose it's because where I live is SO hot and humid, and also cos I'm an oily grease monkey.....so if I'm not in aircon then I wake up in a sludge of oil and sweat. It feels so gross especially when you tan or moisturise before bed. So lovely to wake up all cool and fresh after a night in airconditioning!

I wish i had air con in my bedroom but i do have a ceiling fan and 2 windows which will have to do for now. My neice who is 2 and nephew who is 3 were given mini reverse cycle air cons for there bedrooms last chistmas from my dad who is there grandad. They are lucky that he is an electrician. I want one too.

I love going to bed in a cooler room because then i can warmer Pj's and more blankets becasue i love to snuggle in under the covers. I slo can't sleep unless i have a blanket on me so air con comes in handy in this circumstance.

i could do with air con upstairs at my place, sometimes the fans aren't enough! i have my skylight window opened all summer if possible.

Do you realise how crazy that sounds? You want air con so in summer you can still snuggle under blankets!!!! PP have you heard about global warming?

oooohhh I'm so jealous. We have a crappy little tv that was made in the 1950s (well maybe a little later as it is colour and it does have a remote). It has no sound on channel 10 and the colour on chanel 7 is way too bright. I keep threatening to buy a new tv but there is always someones braces or something that gets in the way.

Well I've almost finalised a rather major purchase... a unit! :penguin:

Yes finally, this 27 year old is moving out of home and into her very own bachelorette pad in January! (Look out!) So as you can imagine, I've been a bit snowed under organising that - I had no idea how addictive realestate.com could be (almost as bad as Adore!). :chuckle: So I've been spending the past few weeks looking at property both online and in the real world and about 2 weeks ago found a place that I thought I could call 'home'. I made an offer the weekend before last, and the past week was spent in negotiations with the seller.. and then Saturday morning I found out my offer was accepted.:penguin:

So, this week I have been organising building and pest inspections and finalising finance and if all that comes back good, my contract should go unconditional this Friday and then I'll be moving in around Australia day. It's not a flash unit (believe me, I'd love something flashy and new) but I had to be realistic about what I could afford and this is in my price range and it's in a great location so it's going to end up being a great little investment once my knight in shining armour comes to whisk me away to a flash and new place! :whipcrack:

So that's my purchase of the year... century even! Talk about major! :reindeer::xmastree:

Aren't the cube shelves cool! I feel like a grown up atm hehehe. C - thanks, that means the world coming from you!

So Round 2 this morning -

2 Scanpan saucepans - they're so pretty.
1 med/larage stainless steel skillet thingy (Scanpan)
A small cast iron skillet thingy (Scanpan again)

2 lamps from Freedom (Rectangle snow white shades, silver bases which are also rectangle, for either side of my bed)
4 glass jars with stainless steel lids from Freedom (I have a few of these in different sizes in my pantry, I love them)
Some plain white round candles
A stainless steel utensil holder for the kitchen bench to showcasemy pretty tools

Also got some stuff for my good friend who recently had a baby (This adorable turtle rattle I fell in love with, "Green Eggs and Ham", a Bonds Hoodie for Winter, some Bonds singlets and shorts for now, and the most hilarious stuffed monkey I love so much I want for myself)

Instead of buying a dinnerset, I think I am going to get the stuff individually whilst there is like 40% off M&W at Myer, that way I can make my own set up and love it all, as I tend to hate half those sets and don't want all those mugs and stuffs. Still not sure whether to go classic round or square stuff. This is my next task.

Plus had to come home to drop stuff off, and check what utensils I don't have, what serving wear I have got and what I need to get more white stuff, and also need some bakng trays and stuff (anyone recommend a good brand??)

Neil Perry "Good Food" Cookbook
2 Baker's Secret Cookie Trays

Maxwells and Williams stuff

2 medium Square Bowls (for serving)
4 small Round Bowls (for putting sauces and dips in)
6 large Square Dining Plates
6 side Square Plates
6 medium Round Bowls
Large Serving Bowl (If a round bowl and an oval bowl had a love child - the result would be the shape of this bowl)

I think I'm right now until next stocktake sale - I just want a rectangle serving plate and I think that should do me for the time being. I would like some champagne flutes and martini glasses but they're not urgent. I can hold off for a while and another sale. Oh - and a wok and a stovetop gril.

Anyway, I get there and they only have one green one left and it's the one I want and it's dinted. I brought it too the counter and told them I'm not paying full price for this, how much can I have it for. They wanted me to pay $45 for it!! The original price was $50!! $5 bucks off!!!! It was freaking dinted and all they wanted to give me was $5 off?!?!?!
I told them I would give them $25 for it and they said no. You would think being the last one left they would just take the money. So I just walked out of there. I couldn't believe it. $5 bucks! Doggy as!

Ah new stuff for the home. I am moving Feb 9, and during the week went into Freedom and bought for the new flat:

Dining table and 6 chairs
Coffee table
2 seater and 2.5 seater sofa
New bed

Ah it's so pretty - Scandinavian style (except for the bed, which is chocolate leather)

Is that the name of the line? I want to see which stuff it is.

The line is Scandi, and the bed is Inca xx

What is the sofa called?

Are they going to deliver it straight to your new place? Did you get it on one of those interest free plans?

Celeste(Staff)
02-01-2008, 01:01 PM
Sofas are Scandi too - got it all matching.

Yep, they'll deliver it straight to the new place and I went with the interest free plan. All together I spent just under $3600 and it works out that my repayments will be around $120 a month for 2 years - not too bad at all!

That's really good! I love furinture and house stuff so much. Sigh.

I still need a coffee table, and 2 bedside tables (it is a bit wrong how much I love my 2 new bedside lamps though) - I also want a book case or something in my room, and would like a desk and stuff - but until I move I wo't do that as I may get stuff with furniture that does fit - can't wait for my shelving to get delivered Saturday.

Celeste(Staff)
02-01-2008, 01:06 PM
Yeah you need to know what space you'll have in the new place before buying lots of new things! Oh and by the way, the movie I told you we were all going to see (27 Dresses, with Luisa and Charismatic) isn't out this weekend like I thought so we'll plan to go NEXT weekend!! (On the 12th?!)

Yeah exactly - I sincerely doubt I will get a place as big as I have now, especially if I am alone! That's why I ended up not getting outdoot stuff yet - whilst my current space is massive - I could get a place and have no outside area :shakehead: I have got 4 folding chairs, that's enough for now :chuckle:

Celeste(Staff)
02-01-2008, 01:12 PM

LOL yes :shakehead: 2 from the coked out neighbours, 2 from my parents rejects.

Yeah - simple and clean lines, chic but a retro twist.

I need cushions too - cos all my furinture is neutral though, I want bright coloured cushions and painitings. I can't find any nice cushions thus far though.

I think maybe a smaller little shop somewhere - I have tried all the bigger places and department stores but nothing.

Yeah sure - I have no plans this weekend so I'm happy to see something else - I haven't been in years remember!

I might even consider getting popcorn, though I get a bit obsessed. I used to go buy it form the movies even when i wasn't seeing one.

Today for our new place we bought:

A lovely black leather 4 chair/recliner combo for the room complete with cup holders and compartments to stash all sorts of snacks in for our home theater room (work in progress)

2 lovely wooden lamps. the are long, lined, hour glass shaped rectangles (if that make sense) with holes cut out to let the light out of. They look very Bali/tribal looking. for the home theater room.

A big 16 compartment bookshelf for my study (you know the ones with no backing thats just all squares) in a gorgeous walnut finish.

A dining suit for the informal dining room

A Bar for the entertaining area (I have to find a pic) it is freaking hilarious looking. Like straight out of an Irish pub or something with the lead lighting finishing and everything :chuckles:

Next we have to go shopping for a heavy black fabric to use as a curtain to divide the rumpus room into 2 for the HT room and for the glass sliding door that is in the room also. ANY SUGGESTIONS?? I'm thinking spotlight. Then we need to carpet the whole room Might hit carpet court for this one and get a piece cut to fit and just have it sitting over the tiles.

I cant wait for this house to finally take shape. We still have to furnish the guest bedroom upstairs too. arrgh!!

Keen to get new crockery as we have odds of everything, and some nice wine glasses too. And everything in the store.
